Activate windows server 2012 R2 after evaluation expired
I installed windows server 2012 R2 evaluation version on 4 servers. The evaluation expired and the servers are shutting down automatically now. When I try to put the license key, it is not accepting it. I could activate some other servers with same license
key; but before the evaluation time expired. I used the same media to install these serves as well. Kindly let me know if there is a way or workaround to make these servers licensed.
Regards.
Hi,
Did the problematic Windows Server 2012 R2 connect to Internet when attempt to activate the server? Please also

By the way, did you get any error message when can’t activate the problematic server?
If any update, please feel free to let me know.
Hope this helps.

Download Windows Server 2012 (not R2) evaluation copy
Hi,
If I try to download the windows server 2012 (not R2) evaluation copy from http://technet.microsoft.com/de-de/evalcenter/hh670538.aspx, I always get a Windows 8 ISO (9200.16384.WIN8_RTM.120725-1247_X64FRE_SERVER_EVAL_DE-DE-HRM_SSS_X64FREE_DE-DE_DV5.ISO)
Thats not that what I'm looking for. :-(
I need to do some compatibility checking for server 2012, therefore I need the ISO image to install on a server.

MichaHi Micha,
I checked the download link and the ISO file name. It should be OK. As Tim mentioned, would you please
let us confirm whether you had installed via this ISO file? After installation, did you find it was a Windows 8, not Windows Server 2012? Just a confirmation. Thanks for your understanding.
In addition, if
you use the link (English version) as Farhad suggested, will encounter the same issue?
Best regards,

Hi,
I downloaded
Windows Server 2012 Evaluation Version recently. Actually, I wanted to check whether i could run Windows Phone 8 emulator on Win server 2012 using my core2duo (Non-SLAT PC). Now i wanted to activate the evaluated version by using product key of my
MSDN's student account. But its giving error when i enter my product key. I checked this article about converting evaluation version to full retail version. The article
says :
"If the server is a domain controller, you cannot convert it to a retail version. In this case, install an additional
domain controller on a server that runs a retail version and remove AD DS from the domain controller that runs on the evaluation version."
So kindly guide as to how I can install this additional domain controller and how to remove AD DS from domain controller. Currently, I have Dual Boot PC( win 8.1 and win server 2012).
Hoping to get a brief response....
Unless you have configured a whole lot of things into the DC running on the evaluation copy (should never install production on an evaluation copy), it would be simplest to start from scratch and reinstall.
Or, you simply go into Server Manager > Manage > Add Roles and Features to remove the AD role. Then you will be back to a workgroup server.
The evaluation version is good for 180 days plus three re-arms of 30 days each. So you can do a lot of experimenting with the evaluation copy without the need for using an MSDN key.

Windows Server 2012 Hangs After a While
Good day,
My server hangs after a while then I have to hard boot it. I get the error 'Online data retrieval occurs under all my roles. Once I reboot it then the error disappears.
Please help!!
Thanks,
MaoFirst of all, you would need to make sure that your server meets the hardware requirements to run Windows Server 2012 + the applications you use.
For Windows Server 2012 System Requirements, you can refer to that: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn303418.aspx
You can also proceed like the following:
Install available Windows Updates (To be tested first)
Install recent versions of your drivers, firmware and BIOS
Uninstall all unused programs
Run chkdsk /r /f and sfc /scannow
Do a clean boot
If this does not help then you can temporary disable security software in use and try again.

Windows Server 2012 R2 License Concerns
Hi,
Good day.
This is my first post, hopefully I am in the right forum to ask.
I have recently transferred to a new job on a new company. There would be various projects also endorsed. One of them are upgrading of legacy IBM servers OS. They have already bought the latest Windows Server OS which is Windows Server 2012 R2 version.
But during the transition the upgrade of OS was given to me, during the upgrade of IBM x346 server there were multiple issues raised (RAID drivers for x64). I was only able to install Windows 2012 Standard version, but our license only have Windows Server 2012
R2.
Can I use the license of Windows Server 2012 R2 to Windows Server 2012? I do understand we have downgrade rights from Win2k12R2 to various OS like 2k8, 2k12 or 2k8 R2. But this is not a downgrade process. Can I simply input the product key to activate Windows
Server 2012 with Windows Server 2012 R2?
Hope you understand my question. Thank you.Can I use the license of Windows Server 2012 R2 to Windows Server 2012? I do understand we have downgrade rights from Win2k12R2 to various OS like 2k8, 2k12 or 2k8 R2. But this is not a downgrade process. Can I simply input the product key to activate Windows
Server 2012 with Windows Server 2012 R2?
If you have purchased the license for WS2012R2, but wish to install WS2012, this is considered a "downgrade" of the license, and, this is usually a permitted entitlement. (it is not necessary to perform the technical installation of WS2012R2 and
then technically install WS2012 - it is permitted to "clean-install" WS2012)
To exercise this "downgrade right", confirm your entitlement to do so, and the entitled version/edition (via your licensing agreement).
You will then need to acquire the installation media for the desired version/edition, and also, acquire the specific license product key to do so.
You can acquire the relevant product key by telephoning Microsoft Product Activation Centre, and explain your scenario, that you wish to exercise your "downgrade rights" - you will be provided with a one-time-use Product Key for this purpose.
Or, have I misunderstood your question?

Windows Server 2012 R2 "The password is incorrect. Try again."
Hi,
I tried to login to my Windows Server 2012 R2 and I got this message "The password is incorrect. Try again." Although the username and password are absolutely correct.
Any thoughts. Thanks.Hi,
I have been investigating this behavior for a while, I am wondering that have you migrated your domain from 2003 to 2012 recently?
Because I can reproduce this issue by migrating a Windows Server 2003 domain to Windows Server 2012 domain, after the Domain Controller changes its password.
Here are some similar threads below about this issue, which got me testing this behavior in the first place:
DC - refuses administrator log on
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/e16fcdda-8e5a-4b30-bbe0-d847bcb68b4e/dc-refuses-administrator-log-on?forum=winserverDS

I am still trying to figure out how and why this issue happens, and consulting with some experts. I will keep you posted once I have progress.
Have a nice day!

Windows server 2012 R2 problem
I have a problem in windows server 2012 R2. After sudden turn off the server 2012 R2 due to power failure the drive letters ( except 'C' drive) of the Hard discs is automatically changed i.e data of 'E' drive is seen in
"F" drive & so on. Kindly let us know the solution of this problem. regardsHi this is in the wrong forum should be 2012 R2 windows server forum.
But in answer to your question, this can happen if ISCSI drives or SAN drives have been disconnected and reconnected, and perhaps the DVD or CD driver has stolen the orginal Driver Letter. without information on your exact configuration it is to difficult
to diagnose.
I ve seen this also happen when a USB memory stick has been left in the server.
This isn't something that would happen normally.!
you can easily change the drive letters back to the original in Disk Manager. you might have to move one first to say 'Z' then move it back to the correct letter last.

Cannot activate HP ROK license on Server 2012 R2 Essentials Evaluation
Hi!
Ive bought a HP ProLiant ML310e Gen8 and installed the Server 2012 R2 Essentials
evaluation, because I couldnt recieve my license in time.
Ive now recieved my Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials ROK HP but cannot activate the license.
Due to my knowledge it should be possible. I dont want to reinstall my server :-
"(For Windows Server 2012 Essentials: You can convert to the full retail version by entering a retail, volume license, or OEM key in the command slmgr.vbs."
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj574204.aspx
Please help! There's no way I know to convert from an eval license to a ROK license. The HP ROK media needs to be installed on the server in order to use the ROK license. In fact, if the operating system is installed using the ROK media, the installation
should be pre-activated and no post-installation activation should be required. I'm afraid a reinstall using the ROK media may be your only option.

I have downloaded an 'Evaluation' version of Win Server 2008 R2 Std.
just 2 weeks back. This is a 180
days evaluation copy. This has been installed on the Virtual box.
Now after just 2 weeks, it is showing the message - 'Windows License is expired'. It is getting automatically
shutting down (that
too an abrupt shutdown) after every hour or so without asking to save any work that is already in progress. As this is an 180 days' copy it should run at least for 180 days. Can anyone help me out to get this fixed? Thanks in advance.
