Activating 3gs without wireless plan

If I want to buy an iphone 3gs for my kids to use just to play games on, do I need to get one that is unlocked and do I need an active SIM to activate the phone or can I use an old SIM that is no longer acti

I chatted with an AT&T person twice today because I was checking out the iPhone 3GS. They told me I could get an iPhone 3GS without the calling feature and just the data plan for $30 a month. Is anyone doing this? If so, how's it working out. My reasons is AT&T call quality doesn't work for me in my area, so I need Verizon. But I love the iPhone... Thanks...
Did they mention a price? I assume it would be the full, unsubsidized price.
Also, if you want text messaging that would add another $5/mo for 200 msgs per month.
Anyway, for my location and most places I go, I've been very pleased with AT&T coverage and quality (but, a caveat, I'm deaf in one ear, have lots of ringing in ears, and cannot "hear a pin drop" )

  • Activation without a plan

I currently am using a Moto Razr and it has been having some problems
And I have the money to get the new iPhone 3G from my AT&T store
    But:
I wanted to know if I bought the phone without getting a new 2 year plan
And took the SIM card from my phone and put it in the iPhone
If it would still work as a regular
Just without all the bells and whistles until I upgrade my part of the plan when my dad returns from a work vacation.
As I need the phone for work calls and such
Any advice/support would be greatly appreciated

You cannot purchase the phone without a plan. Activation of a new 2 year plan occurs before you leave the AT&T or Apple store.

  • Can I activate a 3GS without a SIM card installed?

I have an old 3GS that I want to restore to factory settings. I gave it to a friend and they tried unlocking the phone online without success. They gave me the phone back, but now I can't even use it for an iPod or games or anything as I need to restore it. The question is do I need to have a SIM card to get the phone to open passed the activation point, even if I don't want to use it as a phone?

    Hi TipsfromAB,
To activate an iPhone that you intend to use without a wireless plan, you do need a SIM card temporarily for the initial activation. You may find the following article helpful:

  • Can non-Phone features be used w/o signing-up with a wireless plan?

Q1. Is signing-up for a wireless plan (with AT&T) a requirement for using non-Phone features such as Music, Video, Mail, Safari, Address Book, etc.?
I am not interested in the Phone feature, but am very much interested in using all the other features and using a Wi-Fi connection for Internet. Will I be able to use these non-Phone features without registering with AT&T (and paying $60/mth)?
Q2. Is USB 2.0 a minimum requirement, or can I sync with USB 1.1 (albeit at a very slow speed), since I have an old laptop that does not have USB 2.0?
    Thanks,
    Raj

Yes, the device will not operate without an AT&T service plan. You will not be able to use the iPod, iCal, etc. features without a plan. Even if you never intend to use the voice or EDGE data features.
From my direct experience, the device may or may not work with USB 1.1 ports. Of the 7 computers I've dealt with via a customer or in-person only 2 even recognized the iPhone and neither allowed a sync/activation.

  • Whatsapp running without BB Plan

    Hello,
I am using BB 9360 with a Vodafone connection. Recently I changed my number and since then I have noticed two changes that I have no explanations for.
    1. I have not activated any new BB Plan in my new number yet ( hence it is showing as 'edge' instead of 'EDGE' when it is in 2g network mode ). Then I opened Whatsapp, which was previously installed in my old number because i had bb plan activated and downloaded whatsapp through BBWORLD. Then, it asked whether I have changed my number or not. I typed my new number in it and it started working. Same with WeChat. WeChat did not ask for any number change thing but it is working fine without BB Plan.
Facebook for Blackberry app and BB World, push mails are not working
I was under the impression that all the apps that I downloaded from BBWorld won't work without BB PLAN.
    Can Any one explain?
    2. In my old number when I used to switch the Network Mode in Mobile Network option from 2g to 3g it showed like 3G. But with this new SIM card when i am doing the same thing SOS is coming and network bars are gone. Its not catching the 3g signal.
    What can I do.?

The chat apps of which you speak work with a generic data plan and don't require BIS (BlackBerry Internet Service) in order to function. I guess the data does not travel through BlackBerry's servers to be compressed and therefore any data plan will allow them to work. Certain functions on your phone, including Facebook, Twitter, BBM, push email, etc., require BIS and that's why they are not working on your  phone. Some apps also update themselves automatically to your new number; BBM is one of them and I suspect WeChat operates in a similar fashion and that's why you weren't asked to update your new number for that app.
    Cheers.

  • Outlook Mail sync without wireless access

Several members have asked about this, I haven't seen a definitive answer.  If there is one, please point me to it. Otherwise, the question is:
How do I sync mail files from Outlook to my Centro without using Versamail and wireless?  I don't have a wireless plan with Verizon and don't want one. Shouldn't need one.  I want e-mail files already in my Outlook inbox to sync via the cradle connection exactly like contacts, calendar events, and notes do.  It used to work fine on my Palm Tungsten, I see no reason to pay extra to Verizon to do it via wireless.
    Post relates to: Centro (Verizon)

Hello rds011 and welcome to the Palm forums.
What version of Palm Desktop are you using with your Centro?  If you are using Palm Desktop 4.1.4e or 4.2 you can use the VersaMail conduit to setup email syncing with Outlook without the need for a wireless data plan from Verizon.  If you are using Palm Desktop 6.2 by ACCESS, there is no compatible VersaMail HotSync conduit to link the Centro to Outlook's data store.

  • Product costing without production planning module

Is there any way to work with product costing module without production planning for service sector.

    Hello
You may use the product costing without quantity structure. This is useful if you do not have PP module but have materials and you need to calculate the standard cost of the materials.
In case you do not have materials and only have kinds of services then these can be created as activities for a cost center like a FICO consulting activity for SAP cost center. You may then calculate a price per hour of the activity and may charge it to the service order/ internal order.

  • Can I use a Verizon 3rd Gen iPad on WiFi without activating service without losing any functions?

Can I use a Verizon iPad on WiFi without activating service without losing any functions?

Yes, the cellular iPads function the same as the regular ones except that they have the cellular antenna. Just be sure to turn off cellular in your settings, right below WiFi and Bluetooth so you don't get charged if it is accidentally used, meaning you won't have WiFi everywhere anymore, unless you want to pay for a monthly plan again

  • Your iPad is already active on a subscription plan that cannot be managed on this device

    Help?
I got the new Verizon Ipad a few weeks ago and just now attempted to activate the 4g service. The first few attempts resulted in an error message related to my SIM card (something to the effect that it had already been in use or something). After calling Verizon and taking the card out, running through a script, and putting it back in, we eventually got it to the point where we could connect to the 4G service and that specific SIM card error message went away. However, now I am getting this error: "Your iPad is already active on a subscription plan that cannot be managed on this device". I called and talked to another rep who said they are experiencing this issue with a number of Ipads and she was submitting a ticket for me to get the error "cleared out". She said it could take a week?
When I go in and click "View Account" I either get this error message above or I get a brand new registration window to start all over again. Then immediately the "LTE" goes away in the upper left, it starts searching again, eventually finds the signal, and I get a popup saying "cellular data plan has been activated" or something to that effect. Then I am good to go.
Anyone dealing with this and have it cleared up? They are acting like its something in their system that will just go away on its on but I don't buy it. I am getting the service so I am just trying to get the "view account" functionality to work. Thanks all.

I had the same problem activating. I had gotten one error message when trying to activate. I didn't write the phone number down. I tried "View Account" again and then it started giving the error about the SIM card already being set up on an account. When I called that Verizon number the guy said I would need to go to a VZW store and get a new SIM card, but he did see the account in their system.
A while later I decided to just restart the iPad and I started getting the original message that just said it couldn't activate right now and to try again later.  It provided a different phone number, which is the Verizon mobile broadband support number. When I called it the lady knew exactly what to do. She said the payment to the credit card hadn't gone through and she would have to push it through manually (this sometimes happens with certain credit cards when they see new online cellular service).  She had me go to settings / reset / and to reprovision the account and reboot while she did some things on her side.  When it came back up it was able to activate and the LTE even showed up. I also checked my credit card online and it only showed the $20 charge (for 1 GB Plan).
However, as you stated, when I go to "View Account" it says that the iPad is already active on a subscription that cannot be managed on this device and gives the mobile broadband support number. I will wait a few days and see if it clears up on its own, but at least the data is working.

  • Interactive activity deadline without due transitions

I need to define deadline for all interactive activities. However, I do not want to add due transitions or Connector to every interactive activity. How to set the activity deadline without due transitions?
Or, I add a due transition / deadline to all interactive activities. If the deadline is reached to any of them, an exception will start.
Or, if any activity is expired, it should go to a specific activity. How to do that?
For example, a process has 2 interactive activities, named a1 and a2. The first activity has a method:
    activity as Activity
    activity=Activity("a2")
    t as Time
    t = addSeconds(activity.deadline, i : 20)
It sets the deadline of a2. However, after it is deployed to BPM standalone 10g, when sending a1, Standalone shows error.
    Sincerely
Edited by: YE on Jun 5, 2009 4:01 PM

    Hi Ye,
There is a predefined variable called "deadline" you might want to consider using for this. Instead of having to add due transitions for each activity, if you set the deadline variable to some time in the future, once that time is exceeded the work item instance automatically throws an "InstanceExpiration" exception.
    1) I usually set the deadline variable in the Begin activity in the process to some time in the future. Although you can set it there, it can be changed anywhere in the process if you want the deadline to be different in the next activity. You just need to be sure to set the deadline upstream of the activity.
    2) Add an exception handler to catch the InstanceExpiration exception by:
    a) adding an orphan Interactive activity
    b) if an exception handler does not exist in the process, right mouse click anywhere in the white space of the process -> "Add an exception transition to" -> select the Interactive activity you added in the first step -> click the "Properties" tab -> select the Exception Name combo dropdown and pick "InstanceExpiration" -> click Ok and then Yes.
    c) the logic in the Interactive activity that catches the overdue instances needs at least these statements:
// reset the deadline so another exception is not immediately thrown
    deadline = 'now' + '2d'
// code here to do what it is that you want done (e.g. escalate the priority, send someone an email, etc.)
// now send the instance back to the activity where the deadline expired
action = BACK Hope this helps,
    Dan

  • TS3212 how to reset my iphone 3gs without power of batery ?

how to reset my iphone 3gs without power of batery?

Your phone has "told" you it was dying; you didn't listen.  You ignored the broken power button, you ignored the frequent crashing, and now your battery is probably dead.  And despite this, you never thought to import the "important" pictures and data off your phone?
If you cant turn on the phone or get it recognized in iTunes, there's no way to access the data.

  • Configuring airport express without wireless computer

I've got a 2008 Mac Pro with no wireless hooked up to the square Airport Extreme by ethernet cable.  The airport extreme serves other wireless computers throughout the house.  Last year, it was complicated configuring 2011 airport expresses to extend my network using the Mac Pro as the home computer, but I finally managed it with the help of an Apple tech who said most other techs would probably not know the trick to doing it.  It worked great for over a year.
Today, out of nowhere, airport utility came up with an error message and told me I needed to change settings to a LAN bridge.  I followed directions, but the effect was to wipe out all my settings.  I managed to reset and get the extreme back working, but I'm having trouble getting the airport expresses properly configured. Instructions online are based on doing it with a computer that's also wireless.  Part of the trick in configuring involved deselecting a lower button in Airport Utility, then going to areless settings and changing WAN to extend the network.
I wish I would have gone to the trouble of doing screen grabs with each step along the way, but if anyone knows the steps for reconfiguring the airport expresses using a computer without wireless, I'll pay for your kids' college:  or at least ask God to let you win the lottery.

A cool Apple tech, realizing that I was only having problems because their software had topedoed my working set-up, actually gave me a no-charge rundown of the standard procedure using that ethernet trick, which seemed to work up until the last step, but at that point, the update and restart of the apple express failed each time I tried.  From what I remember when I initially configured the express last year, the ethernet trick is part of the right procedure.  Thanks.
