Activating a new phone

Okay, so I have an upgrade next week but don't want a smartphone and the basic phones right now kinda..well..aren't that great.  I did some searching around and found some Samsung Reality's for sale on ebay.  So I have two questions for you all.
1.  If I do not take my upgrade now, will it still be available if I want to use it at a later time or will I have to wait another two years?
2.  If i end up buying the phone from ebay, will it require any type of data package with it?  It's a 3G Multimedia phone and I am not sure on what the "rules" are on those currently.
Please and Thank You

Your upgrade doesn't expire. If you have the loyalty credit(amount depends on your plan), that expires after 6 months, but the upgrade doesn't expire. I just got a new Reality(SCH-U370) at Targe(t$30). Some Walmarts still have them as well($20). And no they don't require a data plan. You need to call Verizon and have them put a data block on the line. When you activate them you will need to add a plan, then just call Verizon to take it off and block it. The guy at Target was on the line with Verizon and put the block on for me.

If I get this right, you've ported your phone number to AT&T with the purchase of the iPhone. That is considered opening your own account under your name. Your brother's account is not ported to AT&T unless you used his SS# instead of yours. Your brother still has his account under Verizon Wireless, all you did was use your cell phone number to when you opened your own AT&T account.
If you don't want to use your Verizon Wireless phone #, my suggestion is to call AT&T customer service and explain that you want a new phone number instead of the ported Verizon number.

Keep powering your phone off and back on, it can take up to 2 hours for a normal service provider to finalize the activation process.  When you got your new iPhone (congrats by the way) you should have received a little bubble that appeared that told you when the phone was activated, did you see that?

  • Activated a new phone to an old plan and now my other phone is acting crazy!

So One of my phones broke and I got a new phone activated yesterday. I have two phones on my plan, the recently activated one is working fine, but the other one is now cutting on and off and saying I need to download watchdog. It also is saying that my new phone is sending the other phone blank text messages (since I activated the new phone, it has sent over 130 blank texts to the old phone. Can anyone help me out with this?

You should have been told when activating the new phone to keep your old phone off. It needs to be off for the new one to activate and work properly.

  • HT4623 why is itunes not activating my new phone

    i got my phone.
    went through the set up.
synced with itunes and it updated my phone ios but still says no service.
What the hey.  I cannot figure it out.

SIM needs to be tested in a working phone. These have history of failing during Updates/Restores.
You bought iPhone from AT&T ? Right.
What is the model no. of iPhone printed at the back of phone ? Entry under Settings > Carrier Shows: AT&T xx.x
Try toggling Airplane mode under Settings.

  • Trouble with activating a new phone

I bought an iPhone 5 off eBay and it's wiped and reset and everything but when I went to activate it on iTunes it said it was registered to a different Apple ID. Is there any way around this? I have no way of contacting the previous owner, and I doubt they'ed give me that information if I could.

You are experiencing Activation Lock.  If the previous owner will not remove the device from their account there is nothing you can do unless the place you purchased it from will give you a refund. (Look for Buyer Protection on Ebay)
    Activation Lock: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5818
What if I purchase a device that is still linked to the previous owner's account?
Contact the previous owner as soon as possible and ask them to erase the device and remove it from their account. For complete instructions, read how to remove a device from a previous owner's account.
How do I check for Activation Lock before purchasing a used device?
When purchasing an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from someone other than Apple or an authorized Apple reseller, it is up to you to ensure that the device has been erased and is no longer linked to the previous owner’s account.
Follow each of these steps to make sure that you can use the device you purchase:
Turn the device on and slide to unlock. If the passcode lock screen or the home screen appears, the device has not been erased. Ask the seller to completely erase the device by going to Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings. Do not take ownership of any used iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch until it has been erased.
Begin the device setup process. After choosing a language, choosing a country, and connecting to a network, the device will begin activation. If you are asked for the previous owner’s Apple ID and password, the device is still linked to their account. Hand the device back to the seller and ask them to enter their password. If the previous owner is not present, they can remove the device from their account by signing in to icloud.com/find. Do not take ownership of any used iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch until it has been removed from the previous owner’s account.
You will know that a device is ready for you to use when you are asked to “Set up your iPhone", “Set up your iPad", or “Set up your iPod” during the device setup process.

  • IPhone stolen, can I keep it on iCloud account even after activating new phone?

So my phone was stolen a little while ago and they took my iphone along with a bunch of other stuff. What I'm wondering is if it's possible to keep the stolen iphone active on my iCloud list so I'm alerted if they turn it on, even after activating a new phone. I would just cut my losses but I want to get all my IDs and cards back if there's even a slim chance.
What happens if I activate a new phone using the same number and Apple ID? Will the old phone still be there, or will it disappear from the iCloud devices? I was thinking of setting it to "wipe" but I think just setting it to "Lost Mode" will give me a slim chance if they turn it on again. The phone does have a password and I bet they know they were being tracked so I'd be surprised if they turned it on, but you never know. the police case is still active, but I need a new phone ASAP so I can't just wait to see if anything happens with the old one.

No.  The only way to retain them on the iPod after they have been deleted from the computer is to not sync.  YOu also can;t add new one .

  • Warning: remove all all plastic as soon as you get new phone

I just took delivery of a new iPhone 4 today that was ordered online through AT&T. After deactivating my 3G and activating the new phone, and copying my 3G data to the new phone, I removed the front and back plastic protective film on the new phone only to find a nice set of scratches in the front glass next to the ear speaker.
Now I get to go through the hassle of dealing with AT&T for an exchange and getting my 3G re-activated until the replacement arrives.
Don't make the same mistake as me. Check your phone for this great quality control first.

Now I'm very confused. I called Apple first, and when I told them I did the purchase through AT&T, they told me to call AT&T.
Reading comprehension skills needs some work.
Copied from my first post in this thread.
+AT&T does not handle iPhone exchanges under Apple's warranty.+
+*You can return the iPhone for payment credit with AT&T - which can be done with AT&T only if your iPhone was purchased from AT&T and order another, or you can call AppleCare or make an appointment at an Apple store of there is one nearby for an exchange under warranty.*+
What you are doing is NOT an exchange under warranty. You are returning your iPhone for payment credit. When returning an iPhone for payment credit, the iPhone and all package contents must be returned to the store where the iPhone was purchased. You are issued a credit for accounting purposes and if you want to purchase another iPhone, you need make another purchase.
Apple handles all iPhone exchanges under Apple's warranty which is also the party that determines if an iPhone is exchanged under warranty, which doesn't require a credit being issued for the original purchase when the original purchase is returned followed by purchasing another iPhone. The iPhone and only the iPhone is exchanged for another with the iPhone only - not all package contents since only the iPhone needs to be exchanged.

  • Copy dating for a new phone

I am buying the new 16g iphone today and was wondering what is the best way to copy all my data from my current phone to my new one. Will my contacts be on my sim card? I guess I can just sync my music and photos again right?
thanks for any help or advice.

Your contacts and calendar information will be in whatever program you use to access them, i.e. Outlook, etc. The photos and music are synced via iTunes, so that will take care of that, as well as the mail settings that you have. Make sure you do a sync with the old phone, just prior to activating the new phone.
    Hope that helps you.

  • Getting earlier iMessages on new phone

Anyone know how to load my earlier iMessages onto a new phone? I only see the text messages and threads since i activated this new phone. The old messages are still on the 4S and show in iMessages there.

You'd need to restore your phone from your 4S back up. Note that that would delete anything you currently have on your phone.

  • Iphone stolen. Am I able to erase my info with a new phone activated?

My iphone 5 got stolen a few days ago and I immediately put it into lost mode with a sound to go off and a message to appear telling him/her to return it. I got a couple of locations tracked but the theif would keep the phone off. I have iOS 7 with a passcode on the phone and Find my phone activated so I know the phone is pretty much useless and they won't be able to get in. I came to terms that the phone is long gone and I probably won't be getting it back so I went to t-mobile to get a new SIM card for another phone and clicked "Erase iphone" on iCloud. Since the stolen phone is offline, it says the data will be erased once it is connected to the internet. Without much thought I put the new SIM in the phone activating it but when it asked to log in to iCloud, I thought of something that I wasn't sure of so I thought I'd ask. My question is since the new SIM is activated, if I log into my icloud restoring the new phone to whatever I have saved on there, will the information on the stolen phone still be erased? Since the SIM card on the stolen phone is inactivated now, there is no cellular network for it to connect to , and the only way it would be erased is if it was connected to wifi, correct? But if I log into icloud on the new phone, will it log out of the old one and not erase my pictures, contacts, data, etc? Sorry for the huge paragraph, I just want to make sure all my data will still be able to be erased, even if I activate and start using a new phone (which is also an iphone 5). Responses will be appreciated. Thanks!

The find my iPhone services work based on the MIME and serial number, not your carrier's data... therefore the deletion should work if the device is ever connected to a network.
You can have several devices with the same Apple ID so you also don't need to worry about unwillingly logging the other device out.

  • Activated new phone. How long to load OTA software upgrade?

I activated a brand new phone this morning that I purchased on E-bay (Verizon, Boulder C-711, made by Casio).  I followed the steps on the Verizonwireless web site and dialed *228.  I was told that Phone was successfully activated.  However, I was advised that the phone was going to receive a OTA software update. The phone immediately went into some type of download mode and the screen on the phone shows the VerizonWireless logo.
I have been waiting over an hour for the phone to do something.  The screen still shows the VerizonWireless logo and all keys (including the "END") do not respond.  This is to say that I tried to depress the "END" key to shut the phone off and it would not shut off.  I did this thinking the phone may have locked-up and I was trying to turn it off in an attempt to re-boot it.
Question 1 -  How long shoud it take for the OTA software upgrade to load into my phone (1 hour, 2 hours, more, less)?
Question 2 - If phone is in fact locked up, where do I go from here?
Any help would be sincerely appreciated.
    Thanks,     Bill.

Please disregard my question.  My son, who is very impatient, came home and learned that I had been waiting over hour and a half for phone to do something.  He called VerizonWireless support and got a very helpful service Rep. on the line.  She told hime to remove the battery then re-install the battery and turn the phone back on.  The phone re-booted and the necessary software downloaded (it only took one minute for the software to download).  The phone then re-booted again and everything seems fine.  I have been able to make and receive calls now.
Hope this helps anyone else with similar problem.
    Thanks.  Bill.

  • HT1386 My husband and I both upgraded from the 3 to the iPhone 4.  When activating them, it copied all of my stuff to my new phone.  Then we did my husbands....and he got all of my stuff too!  Instead of what was on his old iphone 3. Help. Please.

My husband and I upgraded from the iPhone 3 to the iPhone 4.  I activated mine and all was good.  I activiated his and while syncing....instead of transfering his contacts, apps and ect.  All of my contacts, apps and ect. were loaded on his phone as well.  How do I change this.  Please help.  Thank you!

At this point it would be best to restore both phones. Do backups of both old phones, and restore new phones from those backups. (make you choose the correct backup for each phone or you'll back were you started).
You can use multiple devices with the same computer, and even the same itunes library. Howevever, it may be easier just to set up seperate user accounts on the computer for the future.
