Activating iMessage/FaceTime

I've got an iPhone 4, and an iPhone 5 (well the issue is on the 4 and 5).
When I first had my iPhone 4, I decided that iMessage was not for me and disabled it within a week (little did I know that it'd also disable FaceTime and I hadn't noticed because I didn't even use FaceTime, as nobody then had an iPhone or iPod capable of FaceTiming).
When I got my iPhone 5, I synced it so it was exactly the same as my 4. I decided to check out FaceTime again when I noticed that I was unable to activate (it kept failing to activate), and after 24 hours it still didn't work, so I started troubleshooting. I deleted all settings, hoping that it would reset it, but still no luck. What did work was resetting everything and letting it activate as a fresh phone. I tried to sync my 4 files back on afterwards, thinking that it was the end of the issue but after syncing, it didn't work again. I'm assuming that there's content on the 4 that's stopping me doing it?
I'm not too bothered about losing my data on my 5 but I want to use iMessage on my 4 as well, but also keep content on it - has this happened to anyone else and how did you do it?
Yours faithfully,
Jiaman.

Ok, try activating it with your Apple ID. I know it might be annyoing to not be able to use your phone number, but at least it works. Follow these steps: (iOS 5 Users Only)
Tap Settings.
Scroll down to FaceTime.
Tap FaceTime.
Scroll down to where it says "You can be reached for video calls at:
Under that, there will be a white box, and it has your phone number.
In that white box, there should be "Add another email" or "Add an email"
If that worked, now it's time to go and activate iMessage.
From inside the FaceTime window, tap "Settings" to go back to Settings.
Once you are back in the settings main screen after exiting the FaceTime Settings Screen, scroll down to "Messages".
Tap the "Messages" option.
Once the "Messages" Settings Panel has loaded, scroll down until you can see a box that says "Recieve at *yourphonenumberhere*"
Tap "Recieve at *yourphonenumberhere*"
Tap "Use your Apple ID for iMessage.
Follow the on-screen instructions.
I hope this works.

    Hello, anyone out there?

  • Factory Unlocked on T-Mobile: iMessage & Facetime Both Verified As Activated But Do Not Work

    Hardware: Iphone 4
    OS: 5.1.1
    Factory Unlocked
    Network: T-Mobile (USA).
    Hi all.
Like many I am having a problem getting iMessage & Facetime to work, however, the unique problem I seem to be having is that while both iMessage & Facetime report back that they are activated, neither work.
Anything attempted to be sent through iMessage fails to send. Standard SMS/MMS is only available. Iphone users attempting to send me iMessages are only able to transmit via SMS/MMS as well.
Facetime will not connect to anyone. Every attempt is met with an immediate "Call Failed." prompt on both my end and the Sender's end.
I am completely miffed as up until this on my other iPhone, a 3GS running 5.1.1  also on T-Mobile, there were no problems with iMessage or Facetime (unofficial tweak)
Thus far I have done the following which has yileded no success:
    - Delink my Apple ID from iMessage & Facetime > Turn off Services > Turn off Phone > Restart > Reactive Services >  Relink Apple ID > Reactivate and Verify iMessage & Facetime.
    - Hard Reset (Power + Home)
    - Change DNS to 8.8.8.8
    - Remove my Apple ID > Turn off Phone > Restart > Reactivate & Verify iMessage and Facetime w/o linking Apple ID (Phone no. only).
I'm at a loss at this point. Does anyone have any other ideas? It cannot be a factor of Tmobile as Tmobile plays no factor in iMessage & Facetime ability, they are both network agnostic features as I understand. Additionally, both these features work on my 3GS.

    At another users suggestion I:
Disabled both iMes & FT, turned off wifi, rebooted, and then enable both without wifi.
    Waited 15 minutes to activate
No dice. They both required me to enter my Apple ID, gave the me the warning about charges for text message to activate, waited 10 minutes and again both reported as activated.
Tried sending an Imessage and it failed (both with Wifi off and then Wifi on). I have not tried Facetime but I expect more of the same.
As a final measure, I reset the phone, restored and re-activated which did not solve the problems.
Immensly frustrated at this point. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Depending on the country where you live, some features like FaceTime might not be available for your phone.
Others, like Hotspot, will have to be included into your data plan to be working. Contact your carrier about that.

  • IPad is now severely messed up after connecting iPod to its iCloud account, and after switching to that same Apple ID for iMessage/FaceTime

So, it all started with iMessage. FaceTime had similar log in symptoms as well, but I don't really use FaceTime. The best way I can describe it is with this... Paragraph I sent to my friend, describing my dilemma.
iMessage and everything was PERFECT for about a day, then it stopped working suddenly on my iPad. Then it wouldn't work on both. Then I could sign in on my iPod but not my iPad. Then finally I could log in to both. But it deleted the old send and receive email I was using, so everyone I texted would see an email rather than my name. It WOULD NOT let me add the email again, it would refuse to send a verification email to allow it to work, and would finally just say "error". Now it suddenly stopped working on my iPad and it hasn't worked at all for almost 2 days now. Oh and I only receive notifications for VZ Messages on my iPod, not my iPad. All the settings are perfectly in order on my iPad as well, so I have no clue what to do.
Instagram notifications also have appeared to behave as the VZ Messages notifications have. Any ideas? These are all of my top-used apps, and all of their noticatioms are left broken on my iPad after I added my iPod to my iCloud account, and started using my own Apple ID for iMessage and FaceTime.
DO NOT BOTHER GIVING ME THESE LINKS, AS THEY ARE NOT EVEN DESCRIBING THE SAME ISSUE I AM HAVING.

  • Can not use imessage/facetime on new iPhone 5 and can not get iPhone 4s and 5 to remember any wireless networks.

Two weeks ago I got an iPhone 4s and an iPhone 5 from a local carrier in central and eastern Kentucky called Appalachian Wireless. We had our numbers ported with AT&T. My iPhone 4s can use imessage/facetime but my wife's iPhone 5 can not. It just says waiting for activation and after several hours it will then say activation unsuccessful please turn imessage/facetime off and back on to activate. When we got the iPhones my carrier said it could take 30 days to activate due to our numbers being ported. My 4s took less than 3 hours to activate imessage/facetime but my wife's 5 still hasn't activated. A few days ago we went back to our carrier to get a problem fixed with our regular text messaging and we informed of our problem with imessage/facetime and they told us the most it has taken to activate was 2 days. I know I can use an apple id/e-mail to use imessage/facetime but I want her number to show up. Also neither iPhone will remember our wireless network. Every time we leave our house and come back we have to go to settings and choose our network. Is there a way I can fix these problems and have her imessage/facetime activated and use her phone number and have our iPhones remember our wireless network?

  • HT3529 trouble activating imessage, when I sign in it says an error occurred during activation

Anyone else have trouble activating imessage after software update?

    Try here:
    Can't Activate FaceTime
However, I suspect an Apple server problem. Many users have been reporting problems with Messages and Facetime today.

  • IMessage & Facetime log in error - The server encountered an error processing registration.

I'm hoping someone can help me out here. Both my iMessage and Facetime was working fine until yesterday when I get logged out all of a sudden. I tried signing in to my iMessage & Facetime and all I keep getting is an error saying "The server encountered an error processing registration. Please try again later."
My Apple ID is active and working on my iTunes, iCloud, Macbook Air and iPhone but it's only on my iMac that's giving me this problem. Both my MBA and iMac are running on Mountain Lion.
I tried deleting the  ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.imessage.plist method as suggested by others. It did NOT work. I tried setting my date/time automatically. It also did NOT work. I'm just puzzled as to why my MBA is able to log in to Facetime and iMessage but not my iMac.

    Hi,
Try booting into Safe Mode and if successful reboot and use Messages normally.

    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3377168?start=0&tstart=0

Try why a new account and apple (on @me.com)
On iMessage, I don't see her phone number too ?
I do this " SETTINGS>MAIL,CONTACTS,CALENDAR>CONTACTS>MY INFO" and select her card info.
    still not work.

    Yes,
First time I use her gmail addres for the apple-id., try to active don't work
After I restore the iphone and create a new apple-id by using @me.com of apple.
So she's got two apple id : [email protected] and the other [email protected]

  • Impossible d'activer iMessage

    D'avance, merci !
