Activating Multi-Touch on Older MB Pro

I have an older Macbook Pro with 2 Ghz Intel Core Duo. I read that in SL I will have the extra multi touch capabilities. How do I get these to work?
the MBP i have now allows for the two finger scroll, so wouldn't that qualify it for the new additions?

That’s a shame, was hoping it would work. Mine is a 2007 17inch MBP 2.33ghz intel core 2 duo. Was described as being multi touchpad and looks like the same. 2 fingers works well.
If it doesn’t work, may be Apple should have been a bit more careful with wording that it would work on older mac books
Cheers

  • Multi-Touch on MacBook Pro with Logic

Does anyone know how the new mult-touch pad works with Logic? I heard the enter buttons were removed. If this is true, I'm wondering if this makes navigation easier or difficult.

I went to the Apple store to check out the new MacBook Pro. They didn't have Logic loaded, so I was only able to test in GarageBand. I only tried a couple of functions, but from what I could tell, the multi-touch functions are not active in GarageBand. No one at the Apple store knew how the multi-touch functions works in Logic. At this point, I'm assuming it doesn't work. Also, it was good to know that the multi-touch functions can be disabled so the track pad works as normal.

  • Multi-Touch Trackpad in Windows 7 Pro x64

    Macbook Pro Unibody
    OSX 10.5.8 (Leopard)
    Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
    Bootcamp 2.1
    Trackpad Update 1.1
Just upgraded my Boot Camp partition from Win XP x32 to Win 7 x64. Or rather, I did a clean install, not an upgrade. I'm running all of the above listed stuff. Muti-Touch isn't working on the tack pad, so I don't have RMB functionality and I'm really missing two finger scrolling.
Also, looking in the Boot Camp Control Panel, I don't appear to have any trackpad options, even after installing the trackpad update. I just tried installing it again, and I get a message saying that it won't update my drivers for the tackpad because what I'm trying to install isn't better than what I already have. That's all well and good, but the pad still isn't working with multi-touch.
Any helpful suggestions are appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I didn't do anything proactive to get it to work, just the things I mentioned above. Installed Boot Camp 2.1, installed the Trackpad 1.1 update, uninstalled Boot Camp 2.1, Installed Boot Camp 3.0. Side scrolling just started working.
The only thing that's a tad finicky is multi-touch RMB. It works, more or less, but, for example, if I RMB on a bookmark in Firefox to access it's properties (let's say I want to rename it), I have to hold my two fingers down in the click position as as I move the cursor into the conext menu. Otherwise it will launch the bookmarked page. So you can't just two-finger-click on something to evoke a context menu, let go, then use one finger to navigate to the option you want, which is how I would expect it to work.

  • Keyboard and Multi-Touch trackpad may become unresponsive on MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013)

    Folks,
I have exacly same sympton described here on my 5 day old 15 inc macbook pro.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5296
MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013): Keyboard and Multi-Touch trackpad may become unresponsive
Has anone tried to apply this patch on 15 inc ?
    Kind Regards,
    Neroshige

The patch is only for MBP late 2013 13 inch. 15 inch is not able to install this patch
    I'm facing this problem intermittently.
When my keyboard & trackpad went unresponsive, I plug in my USB keyboard and the keyboard & trackpad went back normal.
I search the web and somebody highlight it may due to connector to keyboard/trackpad appear to be curled.
Not sure is hardware problem or software bug...

  • Pros and Cons to "booting" iPad 2 as developer to use multi-touch gestures??

    Just like it sounds...
I have a new iPad 2 that i would like to have more multi-touch gestures and have heard doing this will do it. Also, heard that possibly the new iOS 5 will have it already. So how exactly do i do this and what are the pros and cons.
    thanks,
    John

It should be enabled in iOS 5 later in the year - from http://www.apple.com/ios/ios5/features.html#more :
iOS 5 includes a few new moves and shortcuts to help you get around even quicker on your iPad: Using four or five fingers, swipe up to reveal the multitasking bar, pinch to return to the Home screen, and swipe left or right to switch between apps

  • Will multi touch gestures work on my macbook pro (2.2 Ghz, Intel Core Duo)?, will multi touch gestures work on my macbook pro (2.2 Ghz, Intel Core Duo)?

I have a macbook pro, purchased late 2006... I can scroll with 2 fingers so I'm wondering if it will support the multi touch gestures before I purchase OS X Lion?
    Thanks!

    Probably Not. Im sorry.
The new macs have a different kind of trackpad that is more sensitive to touch.  And Apple doesn't make new stuff for old macs because most people have a new mac and because the old hardware is not fast enough to run it. Im sorry.
    Hope this helps.

  • Multi-Touch Right click feature on 1st Gen. MBP

I have a 1,1 MBP, and the new ones are pretty cool, but not awesome enough to convince me to buy a new one. However, the right click feature on the multi-touch pads are amazing. I'm wondering if any one has figured out how to get it to work on an older Pro.
The only reason why I think that it's possible is that the track-pad of the older mbp does recognize when there are two fingers present and allows you to scroll up down left right etc. Why would it not be coupled with a click to allow for a right click function?
    Anyway, thanks for your time.

It's true that the first 15" MBPs did not support two-finger taps (although my 1st gen 17" did). I thought that had been fixed in a software update. So, when you look in System Preferences > Keyboard & Mouse > Trackpad tab, there's no option for "Tap trackpad using two fingers for secondary click"? (Clicking has to be enabled for that, else the option is place 2 fingers on pad and click button). There should be!
There was a hack released just after the 17" came out to get that functionality onto the 15" MBPs at the time, you can check it out here:

  • W510 Multi Touch Display Driver NOT installing properly on a fresh Windows 7 Professional Image.

Hello everyone, this is my first post here and I will make it as short as possible. First, thanks in advance for taking the time to read this and helping me out in any way possible.
I have a fairly new W510 machine with a crucial 256GB SSD in it. My SSD crapped out (luckily I had a back up) crucial sent me a new one and I just imaged the new drive a couple of days ago with my backup (The backup is made from the original Lenovo install). However during the imaging some Windows components were damaged for some reason (perhaps due to the previous drive crapping out). The only fix was to go ahead and use the retail windows 7 Pro DVD to "repair" the windows installation by clicking the "upgrade" button after inserting the disk. --As Microsoft suggested this to fix an existing win 7 installation. After I did that EVERYTHING worked flawlessly! I was really happy with the machine, it booted in 30 seconds and what not. However, the multi touch driver for my W510 screen will not stick ... no matter how many times I install it, as soon as I "log out" of the machine, the driver rolls back to a normal pointing device and multi touch is disabled and my on-screen keyboard vanishes. It is the weirdest thing I've ever seen. Here is exactly what I'm doing.
1 - Log into my Admin user account
    2 - Install this: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGR-74908
3 - Multi Touch works great!
4 - Logoff or Lock machine or put it to sleep.
5 - Log back in my admin user account
6 - Touch screen works but all multi touch features are now disabled (As in no pan/scroll no pinch to zoom no nothing) the touch screen simply works as a simple mouse (point and click).
7 - Install the driver again (mentioned in step 2) --Again everything works great.
    8 - Repeated 3 to 7 ... Forever …
I tried completely removing the driver and re-installing it from scratch, I tried getting the raw ISD-V4 (W510's screen driver) directly from Wacom (works too) but again the minute I Logoff or lock that machine, the driver just rolls back or goes back to a normal pointing device. It is really weird that this is happening. The touch screen always worked well and I never had any problems with it. Also in device manager nothing has changed, it seems that everything is in good shape there.
    My W510 specs:
    - Intel Core i7 Extreme X920
    - 16.0 GB DDR3 RAM (G-Skill)
    - 256 GB Crucial M4 SSD
    - No GOBI 2000 Card.
    - Intel WiMax Installed and Enabled.
    - CD-ROM Drive in UltraBay
    - Cam / Fingerprint Reader / Color Sensor / Smartcard Reader / Expansion all installed
    - Windows 7 Professional SP1
It seems that Windows is somehow defaulting to a different "driver" that is over-riding the multi-touch driver I download and install when I log off. Do I need to install the driver outside my user account? Or is there a method to erase the default drivers or something? I am trying to avoid re-imaging this machine from scratch using the provided Lenovo Windows Partition. I just have too much development software on it, some of which will take me forever to re-install and re-configure.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks!
    Al.

  • How many Multi-Touch points can an iPhone/iPod touch have at the same time?

How many Multi-Touch points can an iPhone/iPod touch/iPad have at the same time?
I am curious as IIRC (but forgot where the article is on the Internet),
if a touch surface is wanted to be able to detect more than 1 touch point at the same time,
then that touch surface needs adding 1 more conductive(?) layer.
    (e.g. 2 points -> 2 layers, and so on)
So I wonder how many these layers are on the iPhone / iPod touch / iPad or even the trackpad on every MacBook (Pro).
    (correct me if I'm wrong)
    Just curious, thanks in advance!

I believe it can only support 2. This article explains how the touch screen works but doesn't explicitly say how many points is supports.

  • HT3986 Apple multi touch trackpad  problems on Windows 7 64 bit bootcamp

After installing Windows 7 on Mac Pro (2011) double tap gesture on Apple mult touch tackpad does not work . Any ideas ?

Yes I did that but although the trackpad worked it did not respond to the  tap rather than left clicking  - After posting the query I discovered, following a search of how to switch operating systems, that 'Control Panel/Bootcamp'  revealed adjustments that can be made to the trackpad & it now works - Thanks for you help anyway.

  • Multi touch gestures simultaneusly

    Hi all,
I would like to know if it is possible to capture mltitouch gestures in mobile apps for iOS and Android. In my current tests I can do a rotation, or a scale, but not simultaneusly, the gestures recognizers are only activated one after the other, if using the Multitouch input type to gestures.
Is it possible in any way to achieve this?
    Thank you very much.

Unfortunately, Air doesn't support simultaneous gestures.
You have to combine the raw touch points together yourself, which is no easy feat.
Adobe has recognized this limitation, but I've not seen any changes in Air's mulitouch API to support "true multi-touch".
With that said, Tim Kukuluski, at Adobe, offered a class that does support simultaneous zoom, rotate, drag.
    http://www.leebrimelow.com/?cat=54
Tim was doing some outstanding work in the area, but I've yet to see it rolled into Air officially.  I'd love to see more work done with Air multi-touch in future versions.
Tim's work helped me.  Hope it helps you now.

Is anybody else having issues with multi-touch gestures not working? ie- pinch to zoom

I was having the same issue with gestures.  The pinch zoom wasn't working but the fwd/reverse to next cut with 3 finger swipe was working.  A workaround is www.magicprefs.com - a free magic mouse/trackpad app.  Under preferences/rotate & pinch - I just added the zoom in/out function & it works.  Hope this helps.

  • Macbook multi-touch functionality with LION OSX

I know that some of the older MacBooks (2006-07) have multi-touch trackpad. Are some of those models only one or two finger touch? I am wanting to upgrade to Lion OSX and want to make sure the trackpad will support three and four finger gestures. And which is the oldest macbook model that supports multi-touch and will support all the functions on OSX LION?

Ok, I called AppleCare about this earlier too and they told me that as long as the macbook can support Lion, then it can use the muliti-touch functions. The portables listed in that article have multi-touch trackpads and will support those features. I guess my questions is the macbook that support 2 finger swipe or scrolling are not really multi-touch trackpads then, so they will not support those four finger gestures of Lion?

  • Multi-touch with Microsoft Word 2008

So, I just got a new Macbook Pro, and am wondering how to use (or if it is possible) the multitouch features of the trackpad with word. Basicly, I'd like to increase font size with a pinch (like in Safari) or scroll, without having to select the screen (like when I have safari open in one screen, and word in the other).
Wasn't sure where to post this so sorry in advance!

It would have been more appropiate in one of the MacBook Air/Pro forums, as those are the only machines currently having the technology, if posting in Apple's forums. However, this is best on Microsoft's forums, since the problem lies in getting the developer (Microsoft) to add support to the applications, given that the MacOS X has provided the infrastructure since version 10.5.2.
As you have figured out already, Safari is one of the few applicacions that currently support all the multi-touch features. Not even Apple's own iWorks has them yet. Best we can hope for is that the developers consider adding the support a worthwhile effort, given the installed base of computers with this capability. However, there's always hope, since the PC/Windows manufacturers have taken notice and are announcing portables with similar functionality, which should lead to a standardization.

  • Which mbp models support multi-touch under 10.6?

I have been googling around looking for an answer to this question but haven't found an authoritative answer, just conjecture.
I wonder if someone from Apple could post the specific models which will support multi-touch under Snow Leopard. Mine is a MacbookPro 3,1 and I would like to know if it is possible to enable multi touch.

    So this page
    http://www.apple.com/macosx/refinements/enhancements-refinements.html
    which says:
    Multi-Touch gestures in
    older Mac models.
All Mac notebooks with Multi-Touch trackpads now support three- and four-finger gestures.
Was a lie? Cause my mbp has what seems like multi-touch (two-finger scrolling)... Or does multi-touch have a more specific definition?
