Activating the Timeline when there are no sequences

I have read everything I can but am stumped. I am familiar with RE 8 but used someone elses computer last week to capture a number of .AVI videos off of betacam tapes.
I am trying the trail version of PR pro ver 5.5. I can import my .avi files to the project panel but cannot get them to go to the Timeline. Double-clicking gets them into the preview panel but that's as far as i can go. The timeline/sequence panel is totally blank with no video or audio track lines showing. Also the icon to automate sending a number of clips tot he Timeline is greyed out. I am sure that I have missed something simple but would appreciate any help.Thanks

Before you can edit you need to make a sequence
Go to File / New / Sequence and choose a setting that matches your footage.

That is an unusual situation that you are presenting.
Have you updated from 12 to 12.1 via the project's Help Menu/Update? If not, please do so.
Do you have the latest version of QuickTime installed on your computer with Premiere Elements 12 on Windows 8.1 presumed 64 bit?
The usual drill
a. What is your project preset? What are the properties of your sources media? What is the brand/model/settings of the camera recording your mp4 and jpeg.
What are the pixel dimensions of these jpeg images and how many of them are there in the project (especially when the problems set in).
b. What is the size/duration of your Timeline content when the program no longer accepts new files?
c. Describe status of your computer resources. Also, where are the Scratch Disks directed and how much free hard drive space is at that location(s)?
Troubleshooting for Unexpected/Unexplained project problems...Deletion of the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file and, if necessary, the whole 12.0 Folder in which it exists.

and in the 12.0 Folder is the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file that you delete. If that does not work, then delete the whole 12.0 Folder in which the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file exists. Be sure to be working with Folder Option Show Hidden Files, Folders, and Drives active so that you can see the complete path cited.

Reminders - how can I change the date when there are a lot of notes?

If I add a lot of notes to a reminder till it nearly fills the length of the screen when opened, when I tap on the reminder date to change it, the control for selecting the date is off the screen. Is there a way around this?

Reporting on buttons in the LMS, when there are multiple buttons on the page

I have a project, it is 2 slides in multiple languages adding up to 38 slides. The first slide appears in English . The user can click the language of their choice or click I agree (reported action to the LMS for completion). If they click I agree, no problem. They score 10 points and the requirement for completion is to score 5.
If the user clicks their language, they have the option to click I agree (reported action to the LMS) or they can go Back to English (Jump to first slide). When I add the reporting on the I Agree in the language slides. The Back to English button will only advance to next slide even though it isn't set up that way. The functionality works fine if I'm not trying to set up reporting. Any suggestions?

Hi all,
Is there any way for me to know when there are no references to an object without using finalize()?
I want to pool created objects when it is safe to do so.
finalize() won't work since it is called only once for every object instance.

If you are trying to establish an object pool by placing the objects back in the pool when there are no references to the object, then I am afraid you are out of luck.
If there were no references, then you would not have a "handle" on the object to be able to manipulate it in any way (like putting it back in the pool).
If you are talking about something else, then the classes in java.lang.ref.*, might be of use.
If you are really trying to pool objects, then you should have some sort of "close" method in the objects that is called when they are no longer needed and can be returned to the pool.

i have installed j2sdk1.5.0 then installed j2ee1.4,then installed Weblogic6.1 which use jdk1.3
Now the JRE is jdk1.3\bin
When run class that was compiled with jdk1.5,throw:
java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError
How can i change the jre to 1.5?

There is a workaround to move from 1.5 version to the older 1.4 version. But this could be specific to the browser setting the JRE version.

Restart the browser. It should now use the 1.4.2 JRE for conventional APPLET tags.

My system (Windows XP) has the version 1.5_09 set as the default. However i just installed JRE 1.5_06 and would like to revert back to _06 as the default JRE..

I have had a similar problem with my system. I just recently (within a week of this post) built a brand new desktop. I installed Windows 7 64-bit Home and had a clean install, no problems. Using IE downloaded an anti-virus program, and then, because it was the latest version, downloaded and installed Firefox 4.0. As I began to search the internet for other programs to install after about maybe 10-15 minutes my computer crashes. Blank screen (yet monitor was still receiving a signal from computer) and completely frozen (couldn't even change the caps and num lock on keyboard). I thought I perhaps forgot to reboot after an update so I did a manual reboot and it started up fine.
When ever I got on the internet (still using firefox) it would crash after anywhere between 5-15 minutes. Since I've had good experience with FF in the past I thought it must be either the drivers or a hardware problem. So in-between crashes I updated all the drivers. Still had the same problem. Took the computer to a friend who knows more about computers than I do, made sure all the drivers were updated, same problem. We thought that it might be a hardware problem (bad video card, chipset, overheating issues, etc.), but after my friend played around with my computer for a day he found that when he didn't start FF at all it worked fine, even after watching a movie, or going through a playlist on Youtube.
At the time of this posting I'm going to try to uninstall FF 4.0 and download and install FF 3.6.16 which is currently on my laptop and works like a dream. Hopefully that will do the trick, because I love using FF and would hate to have to switch to another browser. Hopefully Mozilla will work out the kinks with FF 4 so I can continue to use it.
I apologize for the lengthy post. Any feedback would be appreciated, but is not necessary. I will try and post back after I try FF 3.16.6.

However, if I use Acrobat Pro XI to save the same documents in Word and then run a comparison in Word all of the changes are marked. When a PDF is saved as a Word document in Acrobat Pro XI, is a different OCR module being used than the one used in Acrobat Pro XI for text recognition?

OCR is only for recoginition of the image / picture of text provided by an scanner.
Content typed into a Word file which is converted to a PDF is (in Word and in PDF) *not* an image or picture of text - it is the digital text. So, no OCR involved.
When the "digital" (renderable) text of a PDF's page content is exported to Word no OCR is involved.
When a PDF's content is from the image output of a scanner and this is a picture of text then OCR comes into play.
If this content is exported to Word before doing OCR then it is the image that is exported to the Word file.
Once OCR is performed it is the OCR output that is exported.
OCR output is (always will be) impacted by "the quality of the OCR and the scans of the documents".
Regardless "Compare" is based on a Word file output to PDF1 then edits to the Word file followed by an output to PDF2. You use Acrobat Pro to do a compare of PDF1 & PDF2.
Paper 1 scanned to image 1 to image 1 in PDF1 that gets OCR 1 and
Paper 2 scanned to image 2 to image 2 in PDF2 that gets OCR 2
being processed with Acrobat Pro's Compare can certainly be done.

Found the answer myself while helping to set up iPhone. It is simple when you know how. Before signing out of iCloud to sign in again and restore the link to Photo Stream I had opted to copy iCloud contacts to the Mac. When I signed in again this created two iCloud views which can be seen in Contacts Preferences. I just disabled one of them. Not brave enough to attempt removal but I gues this would work too.

Need your inputs on reducing the count of cubes when there are more number of cubes in any project.
On which basis we can downsize the count of cubes? For example,if there 30 cubes in same region,I want to reduce them to ,say 20 cubes.
Please share your thoughts.

You need to evaluate all of your existing cubes and see if there is any overlap in dimensionality that would allow you to combine cubes. Such as if one is actuals and another cube is budget for the same data, possibly you can combine those. Or as someone else suggested based on Business Units (If the other dimensions allow it. Perhaps conflicting Account or other structures won't allow it. )
However you have to then balance combining cubes against larger cube size which could impact calc time and other performance issues.
Its all a balancing act.
Look at where it makes sense to combine them. Only you know your environment enough to state if they can be combined or not.
