[Activation] Apple iOS Activation servers down?

Hi, today i was trying to update my iPhone 4S from iOS 5.0 to 5.1.1. No problems restoring it, but when i try to activate it, the process fails every time. It seems that Apple Activation servers are down?
Im a computer enthusiast and have already checked my home network for issues that can block access to apple servers, also checked from another network and machines, but still no luck. Tried to activate using WiFi on my iPhone, 3G network, and even Connect to iTunes on my PC. I noticed that apple activation server is gs.apple.com. Pinging it from any source on my network just generates timeouts, and even tried to ping it from online pages that provide ping service (ping.eu), but it generates timeouts too.
This is happening since about 3 hours ago, and im still with my iphone waiting for activation, cant restore backups neither. It seems that my iphone, for now, its only filling space on my protective case.
I attached a traceroute and pings from my network and from an online page that provides it, also Screenshots of both errors on my iPhone and iTunes.
Thanks.

Hi, to activate your iPhone using wi-fi:
1) Connect to your wi-fi then press the home button and press more wi-fi settings
2) A blue arrow should appear next to you wi-fi name, press the blue arrow
3) On the DNS section input 8.8.8.8 and then try the activation again.
Hope this helps

I am having a similar issues with you.
In my case, it is an ipod touch with beta ios7 with legit UDID.
It has been telling me that the activation server might be temporarily down since two weeks ago or even more.
    Is the server really down?

  • Activation servers down, no failsafe... a working day wasted

This morning my PSCS5 extended subscription couldn't reach the activation servers... they are down (so says the Adobe helpdesk guy)... Try in 24 hours?!?!?!
How can be that there is no failsafe??? I wasted a working day and I guess Adobe won't pay a dime right?
    Outrageous!

    Hi Jeff,
the server just became available here so now it works again. It doesn't allow any 30 days trial, launching PS I had the activation panel popping up and I was just able to try again or quit... I did activate the product as I've been working since day 1 of my subscription. It's 9.30PM here... and I have to catch up with the work that I couldn't do today... Really Adobe needs to put in place a failsafe to allow bypassing these situations. It's absurd that having a standing subscription there is no way around a connectivity problem

  • Activation Servers Down?

Hello all! I know this has been asked before, but it seems to be a recurring problem. Are the Apple Activation Servers offline?
My wife's iPhone 4s glitched yesterday so I did a software restore. The phone wants to "activate" but I keep getting the message that the "activation server is temporarily unavailable". I have been getting this message for the past 24 hours. Any one else having the issue or know of a solution?
I have tried the "turn it off and on again" routine, as well as the "restore in DFU mode" about six times and still no luck.
Am I just at the mercy of Apple to get their servers back up and running or is it something else that I am missing?
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

    BK,
I actually had to go to my local Apple store and meet with a Genius for an hour. What it turned out to be was some "policy" setting.
I read the documentation that the Genius found, and didn't totally understand it, and I am a tech guy by trade. But it apparently had something to do with a setting in my account back at the Apple Mothership, or a check box that didn't get checked on their end.
So he submitted a rapid response ticket to Apple Tech Support and in about an hour the phone activated and was back up and running.
The way he explained it to me is that there are thousands of settings in our accounts back at Apple, and if one little check box goes awry, it can keep the phone from activating. So why it happened, I have no idea and neither did they. But did they get it fixed? Yes.
I hope that helps. But if you can, either give Apple a call, or head to a local store.

  • Received from Apple new iPhone 4s but can not activate.  Screen states activation servers not available.  What's next step?

I purchased a new iPhone 4s as a replacement for a 3GS.  The phone starts up with configuration, recognizes my home network wi-fi, but for the past 3 days, all I can advance to is the activate your phone screen.  I have tried through iTunes, Wi-Fi and cellular and while each has a different wait time initially, in the end it is the can't activate the phone message with the description that the activation servers are unavailable.  Considering that the first iPhone 5 will start this process tomorrow, if the servers aren't prepared now, what will be happening to everyone tomorrow?  I am in Oklahoma and all of my devices received the updated IOS 6 without problems, but this new phone is just waiting.

When Apple replace an iPhone and  the faulty one is  locked to a carrier in this case it will be T-mobile ( they do not sell unlocked iPhones) they will replace the iPhone with a locked one to that carrier
So in theory you should have an iPhone locked to T-Mobile
Call Apple and they can tell you if it is locked and to which carrier .
I am also doubtful that a BB sim will work in an iPhone even if unlocked due to BB Messenger

Look in the hosts file on your computer (as you didn't say what kind of computer and OS you have I can't tell you where it is, but Google will help). if you see any lines that contain gs.apple.com delete them and your phone should be able to be activated.

That's usully symptomatic of a phone that was jailbroken or hacked to unlock it.

  • Is the apple activation server down?

I reset my phone 4 to get rid of previous settings and things and now it says "activation server down you can connect to itunes or try again later" I connected to intunes and tried everything apple told me to do. I also went to verizon store. I called apple and they said the activation server was down , but It has been this way for 2 days . Is it really down?

I believe a sim card is required to activate an iPhone.

Question: if I am able to start downloading tomorrow, and the servers get mugged by overuse shortly thereafter, is it likely that my download will get killed in the crossfire? My internet dl speed is pathetic, so I anticipate 2.5 to three hours even if the servers behave properly.
Thats why you don't post that the 2.0 update is avalible, people will rush through it and break the server again. I think Apple needs a line system where you wait in a queue and go 2 million at a time
