Activation complete but wrong sim card installed
Hi, I completed the activation for my mother-in-laws new iPhone 4 but she made a mistake and gave me the wrong sim card. I now need to change the sim card which means a different contact number. Will it be a problem if I just change the sim or do I need to do something to reset and go through the activation process again?

Using the old SIM doesn't resolve the issue. Do you have a different resolution?
They have since placed a new error on the website and here's what I posted on another thread.

IT NOW READS "THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE SIM CARD IN YOUR IPHONE" THE DIALOG CONTINUES BY TELLING YOU TO VISIT A STORE AND TO GET A NEW "COLD SIM" BUT I HAVE ALREADY DONE THIS AND WE TRIED SEVERAL "COLD SIMS" AND NOTHING WORKED.

I have an iphone 3GS that I have inactivated as of today. I still wish to sync this phone with iTunes (did a restore as I transferred my data to a new iPhone). However, iTunes is giving me an error message that there is no SIM card installed in the iPhone I'm attempting to activate. I've powered off the phone, held the power button & home button until iTunes popped up with restore note. Re-did the restore (twice) but still coming up with same error message.
Kind of what I figured.....will I be able to sync to iTunes in future as many times as I want without the SIM card (once it's activated again)?

Ii'm updating my iphone 3gs but cannot activate it because the message" there is no sim card installed in the iphone you are attempting to activate", appeared. I've already disconnected my iphone and reinserted the sim,still nothing happened.help!
this problem startedwhen i tried to restore my i phone to original version ,when i had resoterd it said connect to itunes when i connected to i tunes it said no sim card installed so it cant be activated ,and now am stuck.i cnahged my simcard 3 times!!!

Sounds like your phone was hacked to use with your carrier. Updating it has relocked the phone to it's original carrier. You will not get the phone working again without a SIM from the original carrier.

Had a simalar problem. But we weren't getting any service. AT&T said it was a defective SIM card and pretty much everyone that bought an AT&T iPhone 6 from the online store had a defective sim. had to buy a new sim from best buy because att were sold out because the problem was so wide spread.

It sounds a lot like your phone was hacked or jailbroken to unlock it prior to your trying to update it.
If that is the case, it is nowpermanently bricked. -

The iPhone 3G is Not Compatible with iOS 6...
It also appears that your phone may have been Hacked and / or Jailbroken...
If this is the case... you are out of luck... Because...

I upgraded my 3gs to the iOS5 software, but it keeps telling me on my iphone and my itunes that it cannot activate my iphone! Then my iTunes said there is no SIM card installed. HELP! I can't seem to even restore, which is what I was told to do by the Apple Store.
Hi there,
if your phone has ever been replaced by Apple (within or outside of warranty), have Apple check their records to which carrier your iPhone (its IMEI number) is currently locked to.
If it is locked to any other than the carrier you have your SIM-card from, ask the folks at Apple to have your phone's lock adjusted to your carrier. Once that is done, there is a good chance that your phone will work again.

I got my iPhone 4 unlocked from AT&T but whenever i try to connect my phone to iTunes for restoring, iTunes say me "there is no sim card installed in the iphone you are attempting to activate."

But........I start the ohone up now....it wants me to pick language and then country which I do....then it says there is no Sim card installed ....say what?.....its been in there for 4 years......whats up with this.....does Apple have a cure for this?
I have removed it a few times and reinstalled it....same thingMost likely your phone was previously hacked to carrier unlock. When you updated, the hack was removed and the phone re-locked to its original carrier. It will now operate only with a SIM card from that carrier.

i have been using a jailbreak iphone 3gs. recently i have officially unlocked. i have updated the os. but i am unable to activate my phone. it says no sim card installed. cud u help?
Jailbroken phones can not be discussed here.
It's highly likely that it is now bricked. The jailbreak most likely did permanent damage. There are lots of reports of previously jailbroken/hacked phones that become unusable when attempting to apply a legitimate unlock. -

Was the phone unlocked offically by the carrier before restoring? If it was unlocked by a hack it will be locked again after a restore or update.

trying to active my old iPhone 3gs. it showing that activation server is temporary unavailable and on the iTunes showing that there is no sim card installed in the iPhone you are attempting to activate. Was the SIM card activated on another phone? I assume this is an ATT style trying to use on T-Mobile? Was the SIM installed correctly? Is the carrier (like T-Mobile) operating IOS 6 devices yet?
If the SIM is a valid SIM from say T-Mobile, you may want to contact them for assistance activating the SIM card.
Activation and SIM issues typically point to the carrier. And if this was a CDMA phone say working with verizon, it will NOT work for ATT or T-Mobile as they use different electronics on the 3GS. The SIM slot is for international use only. -
