ACTIVATION LOCK EXTREMLY DISAPPOINTING
Good afternoon Apple Community.
I am extremely displeased with Apple for the past 3 months due to this activation lock and I can't find a solution.
I forgot my Apple ID password that was attached to my Iphone 5s and my Ipad and I was unable to update to IOS8 because both devices always asked to put my apple id password and I forgot it. I went to iforgot and I had the recovery key setup on my device thinking it will be extra protection, boy I was wrong.
I was desperate to fix this issue so I went ahead put my ipad on lost mode to remotely wipe it and I've been stuck on the activation screen since. Luckly for me I spoke to an employee of apple and they told me there is an email I can request to turn off find my iphone with proof of purchase, IMEI and license. I went ahead and did the process with my Iphone 5s. Thank God the issue was fixed but now I can't do the same with my ipad because it does not have an IMEI. I have all the proof of purchase, heck I even have access to the apple id email, I have apple care on it as well and it shows all my information which IS MORE PROOF OF PURCHASE. Its not fair that they can take out find my iphone from my iphone 5s device but not my Ipad.
Apple you guys must have a way around this BS.

If you have the proof of purchase for that iPad ... either from Apple itself or some Apple-authorized seller, you'll be able to have it removed. I'll give you a variety of Apple Support documents on the general subject ...

If a second-hand iOS device has been 'Activation locked' then only the previous owner can unlock it, either by providing you with the account ID and password, or by removing it from his list of devices (as he should have done before selling it) - please see http://support.apple.com/kb/ts4515
If you are unable to get him to do this then I'm afraid you will not be able to use the device - there is no other way of unlocking it at all. Apple cannot unlock it for you. -

Yes, Activation Lock is an iOS 7 feature.
Could you not restore the device to an earlier version?
No, you cannot downgrade your iOS device.
That may mean jailbreaking, I'm not sure.
Jailbreaking is not supported by Apple or this forum.
Or what about replacing the motherboard?
There are no user serviceable parts on an iPhone. -

Yes the phone belongs to me. It was purchased from United Kingdom Vodafone to West Africa, i had to factory unlock to use any sim in it. so it belongs to me. I did the activation myself, now after updating my iphone to the latest update, it required a user id and password to activate the phone, but anytime i enter the details, it tells me the user Id is not correct but the password is correct..

New Fios Customer and Extremely Disappointed

I just signed on to Verizon Fios because I've heard great things, however I've been extremely disappointed in what I've experienced so far.
My set up for installation was Sat 1/4 between 9am-12pm. The installer showed up late, at 12:10pm. It then took him until 3:45pm to complete the installation- over 3.5 hours! I have no idea why it took so long for him to come in, set me up with a dvr box and internet. I was previously with Optimum and they were in and out with installation in 30 minutes AND they arrived within their window. My entire morning and afternoon was gone because I had to wait around all morning because I thought he would show up before noon, and then I'm not really sure why it took him ALL afternoon to set up.
On Sun 1/5 as I was watching tv the screen went black. It was on mute and all of a sudden it just shut off. So I then spent over 2 hours on the phone first with an automated lady and then two different techs trying to fix the issue, which they concluded that I need a new set top box. The earliest time they could give me is Wed 1/8 between 8am-8pm.
This service window of 12 hours is absolutely beyond ridiculous!! I have never heard of a 12 hour window before for anything! Whenever I had an issue with Optimum, they were there the next day before 10am.
I cannot take an entire day off from work to sit around my apartment waiting for a guy who will probably show up at 8:10pm. (And I do not have family or friends nearby who can take the day to sit in my apartment for me in case the guy shows up between 8a-8p) And it's crazy that I was just set up with cable/internet on late afternnon Sat, and within 24 hours cable's not working- and now I have to wait 3 days before anyone can come fix this??
I need my service window to be Wed 1/8 between 6:30pm - 8pm. I'm ready to leave and go back to Optimum.
Thank you.I know what you mean. I am also a new fios customer after newly 8 years with optimum. I am beyond disappointed and quite furious! The tech guys that installed my fios on 1/4/14 took 4+ hours and admitted that they are not familiar with fios all that well even though they have been working with Verizon for years. The picture quality is sub-par to optimum, I don't know if something went wrong with the installation, but I am left with extremely blurry SD channels and slightly pixelated HD channels. If you can called that HD! I have had Tech support come over and they gave me all the excuses on under the sun and even insinuated that I am seeing things. Its really frustrating that I haven't been able to find a tech that is knowledgeable enough to fix this issue.
Alas a customer service rep told me to give them another chance and that he will send an experience tech to my house on Monday 1/13/14 between 9-12am. If this tech person give me any excuse short from actually checking the splitter outside my door or switching the wires, I am going back to optimum! Fios has been a complete nightmare to say the least and I hope both our issues get fix soon. -
I purchased an iPhone off eBay and the phone isn't stolen or anything but it has the activation lock on it where it says "this phone is linked to an apple account (****@****.edu) I tried contacting the seller and they thought restoring the phone would remove that but its hasn't any idea what I can do or am I screwed and I need to get my money back
The iOS activation lock is a new feature that will be introduced in iOS 7, and is currently only something that can be used as part of the iOS 7 beta. The activation lock is exactly what the name suggests, it's a lock to prevent activation. This is done so that if the device is stolen, it can't be used. There is no work around you can do on your end, the only way it can be done is for the original owner to remove this device from his "find my iPhone" settings, which he can only do by giving you his appleID login details.
As activation lock is part of iOS 7 developer preview beta, you might get more information at the developer forums however it's more than likely you got ripped off -
I have got a Activation Lock on my iPhone and I need to get it activated. I don't know what Apple ID I was using with my iPhone. It shows as U***@h******.uk which is too short to be my email address. I have reset all my Apple ID passwords and none are activating my iPhone. I have also been into the apple store and they have tried to find out the Apple ID my iPhone was using but this was not successful. The serial number of my iPhone is: C32JN641DTWF
You are going to need to change the email address you use with your old ID. Once you have got access to your old account you will then log into both accounts at the same time on your Mac and transfer your data to a single account. We can do this later, but need you to get access to your old account first.

A month ago my iPhone was stolen, I turned on Activation Lock but it never came out BUT an hour ago somehow my apple ID was changed and someone removed from the account both my iPhone and iPad and the iPad was also remotely wiped. As soon as I saw it I recover the password and return the access to my iPad. But iPhone is not registered for my apple ID any longer. Can Apple help me somehow? I have all the documents and the iPhone box. Will they lock the iPhone and return me access to it. I'm sure it's been attached to another apple ID.

My dad bought ~50 iphone 5s for his business. He is upgrading his phone to a 6 and wants to give me his old 5. His IT guy accidentally erased the phone without disabling the icloud activation lock. My dad has too many emails and no idea of the right one for the apple ID of this particular phone.
Take it and its original purchase receipt to a physical Apple Store.

How did you know your idevice will be activation lock ?
I bought used iPad mini (only the body) at present it's work well I could use my Apple ID, buy some apps and update the FW via OTA. I heard from amny person If I restore and maybe it could not work unless I do not know the username and password of the previous owener (Activation Locked). My iPad mini will be a piece of junk only.
My question is how did I know my current iPad mini will be Activation Locked if I do the restore ? Do we have the method to check ?And how should I know my device was enabled the Find my Phone already ?
The way to know would be to look in the iCloud settings to see if Find My iPhone is set. If you can't set into those settings, then it's highly probable that it's set and hence Activation Lock will be in effect.
Because If the previous was never enable it, it should be ok from Activation lock right ?
If you are certain that the previous owner never set up Find My iPad, then Activation Lock would not be a concern.

I lost my Itouch and read that if it was an ios7, that I can activate a feature that will lock it. Im not talking about the basic features of "play sound" or "lost mode" that are under the "locate my iphone" feature in icloud. I read that there is another feature called "activation lock" that only ios7 can do that prevents the thief from selling it or reseting it to factory settings. I have my serial number so how can I find out if my lost itouch was an ios7? Thanks!
Only the 5G iPod can get iOS 7. iOS 7 was released in September of this year. Onyy you would know if you have a 5G iPod and if you updated it to iOS 7

My phone was stolen and I am just curious how this Lost Mode/Activation Lock works! I know they can't get into my phone currently, and it's off. I tracked the location to an apartment complex before they shut it off, but it didn't give the apartment number, I am hoping they turn it on again soon so I can go back and play the noise, however if I can't I am hoping they will be stupid enough to try to bring it into apple and use it or bring it into verizon. Will Apple or Verizon take the phone for me and return it to me or let them walk out with it? Any background information on similar situations or any feedback would be amazing, I feel naked without my phone.
They won't be able to use the phone, and Apple won't be able to reactivate it for them. Only you can unlock the phone, so it's useless to them. I would doubt that Apple would be able to identify and return the phone if they are stupid enough to take it in, but I don't know for certain.

i answered him that i never used my icloud cos the fact that icloud gives only 5gb free storage. im not gonna be able to sync all my data. and i told him that i reset the phone like its new. and i never updated it on iOS7 when i was using it.
