Activation of CAT 5 ports

Hi,
We have all three of your services (TV, Internet and phone) and I'm very new to setting up a network, and need help with the activation of the CAT 5 ports in my home. The current setup for the internet service is: Coaxial cable, to the Actiontec router, LAN to computer. The home is only a couple of years old, and each room has a wall panel that includes a CAT 5 port and coaxial outlet.
The home also has a "junction box" or central panel inside the master bedroom, which appears to feed the phone lines and coaxial outlets. There is an open ethernet port on the panel, along with a few loose coaxial cables. Would I be able to activate all the CAT 5 ports in the home, by moving the router within the panel, and connecting the open port on the panel to the WAN port on the Actiontec router, along with a connecting one of the coaxial cables?
I would appreciate your help.

I presume you have FIos?
If your house is wired with ethernet, why cant you take an ethernet wire from your actiontec lan port, run it to the outlet in the office....now it's feeding the junction box in the master bedroom.  If you have a panel/switch where the other cat5's are plugged in, they should now be distributing the internet to the other outlets.
The other option...If your Ont is feeding coax to a splitter in the junction box, you could hook up your actiontec to the splitter and then run the Lan out to your panel/switch feeding the other rooms.
Remember...LAN....NOT...WAN

  • Can Appletalk be active on two network ports for printing?

Here's the core of my question: Can I keep Appletalk active on my Airport network port (in order to print to a wireless print server on an HP Laserjet 2100M) and simultaneously keep it active on my Ethernet port (in order to print to a Brother HL 2700CN networked through my router)?
Nothing I have read gives me to believe I can have Appletalk active on more than one network port. If that is the case, my second question would be:
I there some other way to print to either printer on the network without having to turn off Appletalk manually on the ports not being used?
    Here's the configuration I'm facing
    G4 Quicksilver 10.3.9
HP Laserjet 2100M with wireless Belkin DP-311P print server
Brother HL-2700CN wired to Belkin Wireless-G router
I would appreciate any help on this, even if it's the simple response, "No, you can't print to both without manually de/activating Appletalk."

for file sharing between computers running 10.4.x and 10.3.x.
actually, not for that either. 10.4 has dropped support for AppleTalk-only File Sharing to make way for Intel Macs and their protocols. 10.4 does still support AppleTalk printing.
AppleTalk would be required to print to older Apple LaserWriters that do not support LPD/LPR printing. In all but two cases, the printers have no Ethernet port, so a Bridge device or software would be required:
    Personal LaserWriter NTR
    Personal LaserWriter 320
    LaserWriter Select 310
    LaserWriter Select 360
    LaserWriter 4/600 PS
    LaserWriter IIf
    LaserWriter IIg (Ethernet)
    LaserWriter Pro 600
    LaserWriter Pro 630 (Ethernet)
Some third-party wireless Access points do not pass AppleTalk packets at all, and cannot be used to print to that class of older LaserWriters.
In 10.3.9 and previous, AppleTalk may still be used for File Sharing with older Macs.

  • Record time against network activity in CATS

    Hi all
Is there any special exit to be used to DIRECTLY record time against Network Activity in CATS ? I do not which to use the "Worklist & Copy" functionality.
    regards
    PK

    Hi,
As far as i know, you can directly do a timesheet entry for a network activity. You need to have details like activity type and cost center to do this. Also note that timesheet entry in CAT2 is directly influenced by the data entry profile that you use and the settings in CAC2 transaction.
I would suggest you to check both the Data Entry Profile and the setting in CAC2. If you find everything is fine here please check if there is any user exit that is preventing you from making a timesheet entry.

  • Activity logging for WAN port on WRT1900ac

Hi everybody, I'm looking to monitor the activity on the WAN port. When the WAN goes on/off line, to find out when I loose connection with my internet provider. I know where to monitor the use of the ports being used, but I'm looking specific to the connects / disconnects on my WAN port towards my provider. Has anybody have suggestions?

What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?
Is ISP Modem/Service using Dynamic or Static WAN IP addressing?
What ISP Modem service link speeds UP and Down do you have?
Check cable between Modem and Router, swap out to be sure. Link>http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CAT6 is recommended.
Check ISP MTU requirements, Cable is usually 1500, DSL is around 1492 down to 1472. Call the ISP and ask.

I recommend that you have your ISP check the cabling going to the ISP modem, check signal levels going to the ISP modem. For cable Internet, RG-6 coaxial cable is needed, not RG-59. Check for t.v. line splitters and remove them as they can introduce noise on the line and lower the signal going to the ISP modem. Connecting to the ISP modem could result in a false positive as the signal to the modem could be just enough to that point then adding on a router, could see problems. Ensure modem is working well too. Bad modems are out there as well. The router operation is dependent upon getting good data flow from the ISP modem and the modem is dependent upon getting good signal from the ISP Service.
Not sure if using the following will have information on WAN port activity:

    Dear ,
Please i got this error  "Inbound NR2CLNT300: No IModel active for cat. Purchase Orders and Purch.R"
    Appreciate your Effort

    Hi Rami,
Just check whether the purchase order contains one of the item in
IM and the other not.  In such case, you will face the error.
When you exclude two items from IM, check whether IMs already
exists for those items initially and later you had excluded it.  In
such case, you need to delete all master data and transactional
elements from APO before excluding the items from model

  • Can't End Active Calll on FXO port

When I first checked the ports they had a VPM_State of FXOLS_REMOTE_RELEASE. I couldn't get any calls to traverse those ports. I did a shut/no shut on those ports and now I have a VPM_State of FXOLS_ONHOOK, but it shows a Codec of g711ulaw and a VTSP_State of S_Connect, although there should be a call on that port. Weird, huh?
Next I check show call active voice brief and it shows a call leg that has a duration of over 3 days on that port. Why do I still have a call on that port if I do a shut/no shut? I can get the port to answer an incomming call, but it doesn't work. Right now I have that port busyout forced.
Anyone have any idea on how to clear the call short of rebooting the router? I'm going to end up doing that tonight anyway, but I want to get this working for the rest of the day. It's actually happening on 3 ports spread across 2 cards. So their 6 phone lines are down to 3 phone lines right now.
I tried to 'clear call voice causecode 32 id 132A' but the call leg still remains. Here is some of the output:

Buggy IOS, eg 12.4.22 YB5 should be better. It's a telephony-specific release and gets lot more testing.
Plus I have in a all-FXO site w/o trouble so far.

  • Actual Cost not updating to Network Activity from CATS

    Dear All,
Am back here for the expert suggestions / guidance.
I am facing issue with respect to system not updating the actual cost in network activity / projects posted through time sheet i.e. CATS. I have planned my resource cost through work centre assigned with activity type, formula and cost centre. I have kept the employee master data in place with maintaining the 315 infotype. In CAT2 i am posting the respective time sheet on the particular network activity and am transferring the cost into projects by CAT5, the plan cost is getting updated but actuals are not hitting the projects.
Kindly do the needful and suggest me if am missing something out of the track
    Thanks
    Praveen Mohanachary

    HI Gokul,
There wasn't any error during confirmation and i have also checked in CN30 as well as COFC transaction. It is posting the time and the activity is getting the PCNF status set but there isn't any actuals posted. I used CATA for some activity and also used CAT5 for certain activity both are not posting actuals on projects.
    Thanks

  • Cat 4006 ports leaving /joining

    Hi,
I'm experiencing this problem in my 4006 Switch. This has a only one Uplink to 3750 L3 Switch. What happens , in normal case , I'm getting this error eventhough hosts (PC's )connected with these ports are ON only (no reboot). In normal case, ports are leaving /joining which makes me feeling something to do STP.

    Hello Raju,
basically, the message means that your ports are flapping, which could be caused by speed/duplex mismatches. Can you verify that both the switch and the user PC have the same settings (either auto or fixed duplex/speed setting)?
Also, make sure you have 'spanning-tree portfast' configured on your user ports...

  • Cat 2960 shows mac address port as "Drop"

    Hi all
I am configuring a Cat 2960 port for connecting a VOIP phone, authenticated by MAB.  On connecting the phone, I get the port authenticated and assigned to the correct VLAN, with LLDP-MED advertising the correct voice vlan.  However, I then see no traffic from the phone on the switch.  I can see the MAC address of the phone is learned in the right VLANs, but the mac address is showing as "Drop", which normally means the address is statically configured to be blocked.  There is no static mac address table blocking configured on the switch.   Can anyone suggest why this is happening?

  • Dot1x with port security and redundant radius servers

I have a strange issue with my dot1x port authentication.  I have two radius servers configured in my switch for redundancy, and on my switchport I have a Cisco IP phone and a PC.  Testing redundnacy with the radius servers, when I have both servers active and running, the port authentication works fine for both phone and pc.  When I fail the radius servers in the configuration, by disconnecting the NIC on it, the switch goes to the surviving radius server and authenticates, (I can see it in the running log) both the phone and PC get an access-accept, but only the phone works on the network and the port light stays amber showing it's blocking for the pc.  Strange, since it showed an accept on the radius server.
This only seems to happen when the first one on the list is failed.  When the second one is failed, it obviously won't need to try it, so there's not an issue.  Any ideas?

  • JRE 1.7 / Java Plug-in - Long delay in retrieving the applet File(JAR) due to a request to the Domain Controller(on port 53)

    Description:
A specific group of users/customers (using Windows7 OS with IE and FireFox web browsers) are facing problems with retrieving the applet File, after they upgraded the JRE on the system(PC) to JRE 1.7.0_25-b17 from JRE version 1.6.0_29-b11.
With JRE 1.7.0_25-b17 it is noticed that when the Java plugin requests for the applet File; it sends a request to the Domain Controller of the user, which causes a delay of 2 to 5 minutes and sometimes hangs. The problem occurs consistently.
The current temporary workaround for this group of users is to use JRE version 1.6.0_29-b11.
    Problem analysis:
To investigate the problem the below steps were executed:
    1) Collected the Java console outputbelow details from the user's system. (The complete output is not posted due to lengthy content, though can be added further to this post if required.)
    (a) Works fine with JRE version 1.6.0_29-b11. Kindly refer to Java console output in the code ‘section A’ towards the end of this post.
    (b) The problem occurs with problem with JRE version 1.7.0_25-b17. Kindly refer to Java console output in the code ‘section B’ towards the end of this post. The step where the problem is observed, is indicated as(##<comment>##).
    2) The network settings in the user's browser was checked. Internet Options > Connections > LAN setting
The configured option is 'Use automatic configuration script' and the value is http://www.userAppX.com/proxy.pac
This configuration remains the same irrespective of the JRE version in use.
    3) The network settings in the Java Control Panel was checked.
The used/selected option is "Use browser settings", although values for 'Use proxy server' and 'use automatic proxy configuration script' are filled-in as 'user-proxy.com' and 'http://www.userAppX.com/proxy.pac' respectively.
This configuration remains the same irrespective of the JRE version in use.
    4) The proxy PAC file was checked and debugging was done for the request 'https://myAppletHost.com/download/...'. The FindProxyForUrl function (including the conditions defined in it, for the hostname and domain checks) returns PROXY user-proxy.com:80
    5) The user also tried the below
    a. Changed the option in the network settings in the browser to 'Proxy server' with Address 'user-proxy.com' and Port '80'
    b. Restarted the browser.
    c. Tried with Java Plug-in 1.6.0_29, JRE version 1.6.0_29-b11. There was no problem and no request to the Domain Controller of the user.
    d. Tried with Java Plug-in 10.40.2.43, JRE version 1.7.0_40-b43. The problem occurs with the delay and a request to the Domain Controller of the user is observed.
Kindly refer to Java console output in the code ‘section C’ towards the end of this post.
    6) The user also tried setting the below property in the Java Control panel; restarted the browser, and try with JRE 1.7.0_40-b43. The problem stil persists.
    -Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true
    7) The Global Policy Management of the Domain Controller was verified by the user. It has GPO for proxy setting but nothing related to Java security.
    Questions:
The problem seems be specific to a particular (user) environment setup, and the user faces the problem when using JRE 1.7.
We would like to know if the issue is in the (user) environment setup or in JRE 1.7.
Could you please help with information/ideas/suggestions to identify the root cause and solution for this problem?

My organization is experiencing very similar problems.  We have resolved it through several steps.
We upgraded the client to Java 8 and we saw in the console that the hanging connection with the Domain Controller no longer occurs.  This may be all that is necessary for your environment as well.

    Hello,
I have activated the CATS BI content in SAP BW. Now we want to develop the reports which
will show the timesheet entries  processed in CO . Logic used here is to find out the posting date in COBK table

  • Constant network / internet activity

Once I updated to 10.8 my internet traffic has gone crazy. I have a capped isp- and I have used almost 10gb of internet traffic in 3 days!
In Activity Monitor, with Air Port turned on there is constant internet traffic both upload and download, usually hovering around 2-3 mb every 5 minutes or so (4.6 mb during posting of this topic!).… this has added up to gigs of traffic.
What is this and how can I stop it?
    Anyone else having this problem?
    Help!

Given signs of constant network activity, you might Reset Network Settings (network only). (Settings/General and scroll all the way down the page.)
You'll have to sign back in to your network once your device has rebooted. In my case, doing the Reset Network Settings thing stopped the constant network activity as reflected in the rolling network activity icon shown in the status bar at the top of the screen.

  • SG-300 port lock by bpduguard not visible in webGUI ?

    Hi,
we are starting to replace low budget hubs by the SG-300's.
On the accessports we use BPDUguard and mac security (max 1 user per port).
The newest firmware is used (1.1.2.0).
When i lock a port intentionally by connecting e.g. ports 4 and 5 together (something that happens
quite frequently by user-faillure) i do not see this in the WEB gui.
The CLI does tell me that the port is locked:
    gi4      1G-Copper      --      --     --     --  Down*          --     --
*: The interface was suspended by the system.
In the webGUI i can reset the port, but in the CLI i don't get how i should do this. I tried a 'shutdown' followed by a ' no shutdown' on
CLI interface level, but that does not lift the suspension state.
    Questions:
    - Does anyone know if you can lift the suspension state using the CLI ?
    - Is there a way to see the lockdown in the webGUI ?

    Hello Rob,
    Enable Fastethernet5
    •–        switch#set interface active Fastethernet5
    •–        switch#show mac-address-table
    •–        switch#show interfaces status
Now remember If the port is still in violation of the Port Security settings then the port will never go active untill you disable port security on that port, change the settings on the port, or remove the device that is causing the security violation.
