Activation of imbedded files in Acrobat 9

I created a pdf-file from a word document which contains objects like pdf-files, word documents (*.doc) and powerpoint presentations (*.ppt). In Word the embedded files are opened and can be handled whereas  in the pdf-version of my word document nothing happens. What is to be done to open and handle the embedded files in the pdf-version?
Greetings
Dr. Werner Schwarz

Dear Mr. Kazlow,
thanks for your answer. But there results another question. Does the manual procedure mean that I have toi insert or embed each file " from the beginning"? Or can you explain how the manual procdure has to be done?
This would be very helpfully for me.
Thanks in advance
Werner Schwarz

You need to embed the pdf, word and powerpoint files in the pdf file manually.

  • Why can't I email a pdf file from Acrobat XI Standard?

Whenever I try to email a pdf file from Acrobat XI Standard, nothing happens. Outlook 2007 is my default

but when I click on the email icon or select email from the dropdown menu, nothing happens. This is

Be sure that MAPI is properly active in your Outlook. I am not an Outlook user, but that is what is needed.

  • How can I convert a PDF/A file into a PDF file with Acrobat Pro X?

How can I convert a PDF/A file into a PDF file with Acrobat Pro X? I'd like to modifiy the file which I have only as a PDF/A.

There's two answers if you want to modify the file:
You can temporarily turn off PDF/A Mode in your preferences, so they don't open as read-only. The problem would be if you do something to the file that violated the PDF/A standard, so you should always run a Preflight check afterwards to make sure.
If you want to remove the PDF/A header tag, use Preflight again - it's on the Print Production Panel in Acrobat X Pro (which may be hidden, use the options menu on the Tools Pane to show it). There's a profile called "Remove PDF/A information" - choose this and press Analyze and Fix. Nothing else about the file will be altered but when you save and reopen it all the editing tools will become active.

  • Problem editing 2 PDF files simultaneously - Acrobat Pro 9

We have an unusual problem here: Our authors are using Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.0 on their Windows XP systems.
When they open 1 PDF file (Window #1), the text creating/editing function works great.
When they open another PDF file (Window #2) and create/edit text, this works as well.
But when they try to go back to the 1st PDF file (Window #1) and edit the text, the text editing toolbar is grayed out and cannot be selected.
However, when they do select the text in Window #1, the text editing toolbar in Window #2 is "activated" (even though this window is not the active/selected window).
When you try to change the text attributes in Window #1 using the toolbar in Window #2, it deselects/deactivates Window #1 and activates Window #2, thereby rendering the text edit toolbar functional for only Window #2.
This does not get fixed unless you close both files and Acrobat and reopen only 1 file at a time.
I have tried to reinstall Acrobat 9.0 but this did not correct the problem.
    Any ideas?

It does not matter which ones I am using. As long as any two are opened together it does this.

    Steve Elmore

How to check the resolution of a pdf file using Acrobat 9 pro?

PDF files don't have one resolution, but may have none or many different resolutions, one per image. You can check the maximum/minimum resoluion with preflight in Acrobat Pro, but not in Adobe Reader.

  • HOW DO I FIND FILE IN ACROBAT XI

I have downloaded Adobe AIR Application installer and download Adobe Download Assistant; both are on the dock.  I cannot find how to open file in Aarobat XI to convert df to word. How do I find it?

These are not Acrobat. You need to download and install Acrobat in order to use it.

how to open file in Acrobat XI
I am not sure I understand your question but I think you are looking for this.
    1. Right click on the PDF file.
    2. Click on "Open With". You will see Adobe Acrobat in the list.
    3. Click on it.
    Alternatively,
1a. On Windows, open the Start Menu (bottom left of the screen).
1b. On Mac, open the Spotlight (top right of the screen).
    2. Type Acrobat. You will see Adobe Acrobat in the list.
    3. Click on it. Acrobat will open.
    4. Goto File -> Open. Locate the file and click Open.
If Acrobat is not displayed anywhere, it means that the software is not installed on your machine.
    To verify:
1a. On Windows, open Control Panel, then open Programs and Features.
1b. On Mac, open a Finder Window, then click Applications on the left.
    2. Look for Adobe Acrobat in the list.
If Acrobat is not present, download and install from the website http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat.html or using Adobe Download Assistant.

  • Word 2007 won't save files with Acrobat Pro 9.0 Installed

Last night an issue started occurring while trying to save a document in MS Word 2007 (part of an Office Ultimate install).  After about 10 hours of trying several suggestions from a variety of forums and MS suggestions I found that the only time I cannot save a file by traditional means is when Acrobat is installed.  I tried updating Acrobate and had the same thing happen.  MS says all that's left for me to do is get an answer from Adobe (I have to wonder if it's a copout).
    Steps taken so far:
Disabled the PDF add-in - still unable to save Word files
Removed PDF add-in - still unable to save Word files
Removed entire CS4 suite - Word was able to properly save files
Installed only the parts of the suite that I use frequently (Photoshop, Soundbooth, Premiere, Acrobat) - unable to save Word files
Removed Acrobat Pro 9.0 - Word saves files properly again
When I say it will not save a file I've tried the keyboard shortcuts for Save/Save As, Choosing the Save/Save As from drop down, and even attempted to save by closing the document.  When prompted with the option to save changes I say yes and nothing will happen, I have to close the document with nothing saved.
I hate the idea of reinstalling Acrobat each time I need to use it to keep Word functional.  I've seen a ton of threads on other forums related to this issue.  Has anybody else seen this or know about a fix/work around?  Any help is appreciated.  Please let me know if additional detail is necessary.
The operating system for the affected computer is Windows 7 32-bit.

I installed each update individually (6 of them) and rebooted after each update.  Opened Word and attempted to save a document (after each update/reboot), the documents still cannot be saved (previously created documents still cannot have new detail saved).
Decided to delete the Office folder in the following path: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 9.0\PDFMaker\Office
Opened up word and Acrobat went through an installation processes, to replace what was removed I assume.  After this was done I attempted to save a document and was still unable to do so.  Went back and deleted that Office folder in the above path again.  When opening Word this time I cancelled the installation process that Adobe was trying to complete.  Preventing the install of the settings and PDF add-in allowed documents to be saved again in word.
I decided to try to remove the innactive add-in from my Word Options and received the following error message:
"The connected state of Office Add-Ins registered in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE cannot be changed"
Due to my deleting that folder?
I suppose I could cancel that installation that initiates each time I open Word (or any other Office program that benefits from Acrobat Add-ins) but that will be a bit of an annoyance.
Anybody have another suggestion, know what may need to be deleted from the registry to prevent the Add-ins installation when opening Word, or know where that setting can be changed?
Hopefully getting close to a resolution

  • Getting "save as" dialog box to auto populate when combining files in Acrobat X Standard

  • Default optimization for new files in Acrobat 9 Pro

When I create a new file in Acrobat Pro 9, it automatically saves as version 1.6 (Acrobat 7.x). Much as I would love the whole world to have the latest reader version on their computer, the reality is that many of my website's users have older versions installed. As a consequence, I need to optimize all files as version 1.4, otherwise they won't be able to open the documents in their browsers.
Why isn't there a preference setting to optimize all new files as 1.4 by default? This would save having to run the optimizer every time. Also, if I start from a file that is already optimized as 1.4, I extract a page and save it, this saves as 1.6. Why? If I am starting from a 1.4 PDF, surely that's the version I want?
So every time I extract a page, tese are the steps I have to take:
    1) Extract and save the page
    2) Optimize it for 1.4
    3) Save it again (after confirming that yes, I do indeed want to overwrite it).
I do this several times a day and it's an absolute pain in the neck, which could be avoided by implemeting any of these features:
    1) A setting under Preferences> Default PDF Version for new files;
    2) A PDF version selection box within the "Save As" dialog (I believe this feature has been requested by others);
    3) Acrobat Pro realizing that you have extracted the page from a 1.4 file and therefore saving the new file with the same format;
    4) Some sort of batch optimization option, so I only have to run the conversion once.
Frankly I'm surprised none of these features already exist.
Come on Adobe, is this really so hard to do?
    Thank you.

Unable to find "Adobe PDF" resource files "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 9.0\Acrobat\AMT" You must have Administrator privileges to install these files. Please contact your local system administrator.
Does anyone know how I might resolve this error?  Re-installing Acrobat fixes it, however I'm getting this error on multiple machines so I would prefer to not have to re-install if possible. Any clues or hints you might have are very welcome!

Yes, the folder exists and I am able to access it.

PDF is an end destination format - although Acrobat is capable of making minor changes to a file (e.g. to correct typos) it is not a word processor or DTP application. Major changes must be done in the original document, and the PDF file re-exported.
You can copy text from a file by selecting it and right-clicking, or you can save the file as plain or formatted text. To make small changes to the text on a page, use the touchup tool - see the help file for more info.

  • Wrongly transformed the sentences of left and right paragraphs into one sentence in PDF files to txt files by Acrobat 9 Pro

I found that the when transforming PDF files into TXT files by Acrobat 9 Pro, the Acrobat will wrongly transform the sentences of the left hand side and right hand side paragraphs into one sentence, while the correct format should be the later sentence follows the former sentence in each paragraph.
An example PDF is : http://cardiovascres.oxfordjournals.org/content/cardiovascres/45/1/200.full.pdf
Is there any solution for this problem? Or should I use other software (or other version of Acrobat) to solve the problem? Thank you.

PDF is not a word processor file format.
It has no "styles", "format", "layout", "columns", "rows", "tables", etc.
PDF writers paint the content to the canvas that is the PDF page.
Depending on what was used and how it operates this painting can be like a paint by numbers affair.
ISO 32000-1:2008, the ISO standard for PDF explains it all.
So, when exporting to text from your PDF the progression is left to right, top down.
Remember, PDF has no awareness of "columns". What we see is our construct not PDF's.
What you and I see as two columns with a specific read order is our imposition.
What is on the PDF page is simply a line of text characters.
That is how it is with all versions of Acrobat. Applications can only make use of what the file format supports eh.
    What to do?
Master content in a logical hierarchy in the authoring file.
Always use the build-in Headings for Headings.
    Use the built-in "table" feature.
Use a PDF writer process that is compliant with the ISO standard and that supports proper output of Tagged PDF.
A well-formed Tagged PDF will export properly.
Two key design considerations for Tagged PDF are:
    (1)  Support Accessible PDF
    (2)  Support Export of PDF page content.
What constitutes a "well-formed tagged PDF?"
This would be a PDF that is ISO 14289-1, PDF/UA-1 compliant.
    Be well...
