Activation on pc and mac

Hi
I am switching soon and I have a few questions about itunes and ipods
1. If I understand something that I read here correctly, in order to move music and files from my mac to my pc, i will need to reformat the ipod so that it can read files on the mac using disk utilities-am I correct
2. I have several TV shows ,music videos and albums that I have downloaded via iTunes-i would like to keep my PC active as a machine that can download and play files, but is it possible to have a PC and a Mac authorized to play the same music?

If it is Windows formatted already and has all the songs on it then you don't need to do anything with it. Apart from some reported exceptions, Macs can read Windows formatting. There is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs but not playlists back to iTunes on Windows posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward.

If you want to use it as a removable drive to move other files then enable it for disk use: Using your iPod as a hard disk
One last thing, If you haven't already done so, change the update setting for your iPod to manual. s If you are using the iPod in manual update mode, your iPod is safe from being accidentally erased if you connect to an empty iTunes on the PC.

Authorization determines to which computers material requiring authorization can be transferrred using the itunes interface. If you want to re-download past purchases then a computer need to be authorized.
As for transferring music from the iPod, your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer is designed with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is purchased content.

Particularly:
I don't see photos in Photo Stream on my iOS device.
Check the following:
From your Home screen, tap Settings > iCloud > Photo Stream, and make sure the slider is set to the ON position.
From the Home screen, tap Settings > Wi-Fi, make sure the slider is set to ON, and that your device is connected to a wireless network.
Ensure that Camera app is closed on the device where you took the photo. Photo Stream will not upload photos from an iOS device until the Camera app is closed.
Ensure your iOS device has not fallen below 20% battery power. To preserve battery life, Photo Stream downloading and uploading are disabled when the battery reaches this threshold. Downloading and uploading will resume once you charge your device, and the battery charge is greater than 20%.

You have quite muddied up the waters, I'm afraid. Assuming you now have a single GUID partition formatted Mac OS Extended, Journaled, you should try reinstalling Lion:
Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

Mail setup and .mac authentication

Baffled… I have been trying to setup my Mail account. I have an active .Mac account which I can access via the internet, so I know it works. I am trying to use Mail as my automatic mail for sending Aperture photos and iWeb announcements.
In going through the setup procedures in Mail I enter all the required information and the application tries to authenticate my .Mac account… it spins and spins… then an error message is received indicating “failure to connect to .Mac”. I have verified my settings with a friend who uses the same ISP, Mail and .Mac and all our settings are the same.
Is this a keychain issue, do I need to reset permissions?
Why can I access my .Mac account through Safari yet the computer can’t do it automatically?

trying to connect to the server using telnet. That's

I only get mail via the web ~ Safari ~ Yahoo... .mac mail can be received and used onlt as a web application, Mial does not connect via .mac.
The problem is .Mac authentifcation when setting up a new Mail account, error message says can not verify/connect to .Mac server, yet I can access .Mac via the internet.
IMAP ~ in my system preferences for Accounts/Advanced I do not sync to any IMAP mailbox and the greyed out port is 143 nad SSL is not checked.
Terminal ~ yes it logged in, sorry if I used the wrong term "ping"... so yes it did connect.

Active Directory Integration and home folder mounting

I've set up a G4 tower with Tiger 10.4.4 and bound it to our AD domain. Authentication works perfectly, however the home directories of the users (on smb shares on windows servers) do not mount consistently. At first I thought that it was working for administrative users but not for regular users, but one of our test accounts which has no admin priv's works perfectly. It does seem to work consistently for admins, though.
Most regular users are given a local home directory. Has anyone seen this? Any thoughts? Is there any particular log file that I might check for clues?
I'll try get in a little later to post the output of dsconfigad -show , which might help...

I have been working on doing this as well. If I set the 'mount home directoy' property in the user in Active Directory Users and Computers it has worked for all users and I did not have to specify anything in the AD connector on the Macs.

2-way Trust Relationship between Windows and Mac Domain

Hi guys I hope someone can help me.
Just a quick explanation of what I am trying to do.
I have an Xserve running OSX 10.5.8 server, which is the OD Master. On that server I’m running Kerio mail server. I have a Microsoft 2003 server running AD.
The problem is I need to run BlackBerry Enterprise on the Windows server as the BlackBerry need active directory to work.
Since I have both system already running, I do not want to destroy my open directory just to get the BlackBerry working.
So what I have tried to do is create a 2-way Trust Relationship between the 2 domains, so the BlackBerry server will talk to the Kerio mail server.
The trust relationship appears to create fine from the Windows server side, but I’m not able to retrieve LDAP information from the open directory server.
The creation from the OSX server starts fine automated but then I had to finish it manually.
Has anyone else here created a 2-way trust relationship between Windows and Mac’s before? Any help on how you did it would be appreciated. Thanks

Have you checked on when the computer last checked in and changed the computer account password with the domain? When a computer changes it's password, Active Directory will store only the current password and it does not expire. The workstation
will store both the current password and the previous password. This for cases when you may restore Active Directory to a point before the computer password change.
To handle this, the workstation will try it's current password, then it's previous.
If you're restoring the workstation to a previous point in time, you may be rolling the stored passwords back too far for Active Directory to accept. I would only imagine this to be the case a handful of times if you're going back 1-2 days.

PSE 12 on my windows pc and mac laptop

Recently installed PSE12 on my new pc (windows 7 pro). I will be attending an editing course and just found out that I will require my laptop (macbook pro). The macbook pro has my previous PSE8 installed. Can I install my PSE12 on the mac also? Read that it cannot be installed on two different operating systems.

pse can be installed on two different os and your single user license allows two concurrent installations and activations.

You can activate the software on a maximum of two computers at the same time.
Your serial number works on both Windows and Mac.
Your choice on how you mix and match the activations: Win/Win or Mac/Mac or Win/Mac.

If I buy the Windows download version from Adobe or Amazon, will that product key activate the second install on a Mac? I assume I'd have to download the trial version for Mac, but Adobe's trial versions can be activated with a valid product key, right?
Will the same scenario work for a Windows upgrade download purchase (I have PSE 7 for Windows).
Any difference if I buy the box/cd version?

If you buy Windows download from Adobe.com, you will only be able to activate the second license on Windows, not on Mac.
You can always download the trial version for mac, but the same product key won't work there.
If you want to buy the cross-platform version, go to your nearest store, and buy the boxed version. You will just need to enter your serial number in your already installed trial build, and PSE will be activated on both Win and Mac.

This is from a tester describing what happens on a Mac:
No the program does not launch properly on the Mac
What happens is this.
I open my applications folder
I open the App Folder and see another folder labeled Program V2.1
I open that folder and see the Program blue icon which click to launch
The folder disappears and the blue Program icon appears in my dock along side other applications looking ready for launching.
This is where the problem starts
If I click on the blue Program icon which is in my dock along side all of my other application icons they all drop off the screen. like the screen resolution changed suddenly or something,
The menu along the top of the screen also moves off the screen . in the same manner
so my desktop which usually has a visible dock at the bottom and a menu bar on the top now doesn't show either of those elements.
I do have a couple of document icons on my desktop , you know text files or what ever they never move
If I now click my mouse anywhere on the screen all of the icons return including the blue Program icon still sitting in by dock, if I click it again same sequence of actions.
I deleted and reinstalled the latest version of Adobe Air and got the same result
I also want to mention
The top menu on the mac tells me what application is active, you know "finder" "Open office" "Firefox" what ever is program is running and active shows there
Program has never show up as being active in the top menu so I'm guessing never fully launched
