Activation server help

I bought an unlocked jailbroken iphone 3gs from a person off kijiji and i went and updated it because i heard doign that relocks and unjailbreaks the phone so after i downloaded the ios 5 it says the activiation server is down, any help please?

Unfortunately, it is not always possible to remove a jailbreak/hack and return the phone to a pristine state.
Also, jailbroken and hacked devices can not be discussed here per the terms of service.
You may want to google the problem. Maybe someone in the jailbreaking 'community' can help.

Cannot connect to Activation Server

My system is Windows Vista.
Recently installed ADE 3.0.
I tried to open ACSM file, both with & w/o authorization ID.
Both times, I get the same error: cannot connect to Activation Server
My internet connection works.
So, I configured my Windows Firewall, so that ADE 3.0 is on the exceptions list.
Same error: cannot connect to Activation Server

Yes, I tried to deauthorize in Library view, but nothing happened. ADE has no authorization information at all.
So, for added measure, I uninstalled & reinstalled ADE 3.0. Then I confirmed that Adobe ID and password worked by logging into my Adobe account. Hence, my internet connection also works.
In ADE I again entered my Adobe ID and password. Initially I got the same error: cannot connect to authorization server.
After I repeatedly hit [Try Again], the screen finally showed "Authorizing..."
However, this screen just runs...and runs. The authorization never completetes.
So then I went to the Registry and deleted the Adept Key, as you suggested in your other reply.
Same result. At first, it wouldn't connect to the server at all. Then I get the "Authorizing" screen that runs indefinitely.

You had a jailbreak and unlock.
When you updated you cooked it.
Your phone is done.
Time for a new one.

Tried to update to IOS6 and now my ipad is trying to restore -- getting error "activation server not available" help! Have I lost all my video files?

I was trying to do a simple udate of the ios software. I connected to ITunes and the Ipad screen popped up saying there was an update available. I clicked on the update and it started updating and also there was a message saying it was backing up. But then I got a message to click here to complete the update -- with a restore. Try restarting everything and then try to sync or reactivate. Quit iTunes, reboot your computer, reboot your iPad and then try again.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

That is almost always because the phone was hacked to illegally unlock it. Contact the carrier it's locked to and ask about having it legitimately unlocked. If they will not do so, you will not be able to activate that phone.

Generally, that means the phone has been jailbroken (hacked). You can try restoring it as new using iTunes. Beyond that, there's really nothing we can advise as jailbroken phones can't be supported on these forums.

This usually happens if the phone has been Hacked / Jailbroken / Modified...
Is this the case...?

99.9% of the time, the cause of this issue is the fact the phone was jailbroken/hacked to unlock it for use on networks other than the network the phone was originally locked to. Apple maintains a database of officially unlocked iPhones, and when Apple's servers detect phones such as yours, activation stops & you get the message you got.
So, you need to get a sim card from the carrier the phone was originally locked to, or get it officially unlocked, if you want to activate it. Because it appears that it was not officially unlocked.

Wait for a while and try again
Try activating your iPad using another WiFi network
Ask someone who does have a computer running iTunes for help.
Take your iPad to an Apple Store and ask them for help.

Apple's download AND activation servers are being stressed today with all the downloads/activations. It might be best to wait and try later.

Follow these steps,
1. Launch Adobe Digital Editions
2. Keeping ADE program active on your screen, Hold Ctrl+Shift+D keys.
- you will get a prompt window to Erase Authorization (ADE 2.0) & Deauthorize (ADE 1.7.2)
- Deauthorize ADE and Re-launch it.
3. Navigate to Help > Authorize Computer (in ADE 2.0) & Library > Authorize ( in ADE 1.7.2, usually you will be prompted to authorize when you launch the program ) .
