Active corners

Disabled active corners after 0.5-1 hours. If the settings adjusted again, then start working for another 0.5-1 hours. Because of what it might be?

Anyone experienced it?

  • Active corners with multiple monitors

When second monitor is added, the primary one loses two of it's active corners. Is there any way to keep all active corners on the same monitor?

I usually keep the lower, left-hand corner active to start the screen saver. When I have two displays attached, I have to adjust the position of the two screens (through the "Arrangement" tab of the Displays System Preferences) so there is, in fact, a corner in the lower, left-hand area. I usually just drag the left-hand display up so there is a corner "in the middle". However, this won't work for both left-hand corners, you'll always lose one.

  • Is it possible to run a script through active corners?

Is there any way or app that allows me to run a script when moving the mouse pointer to an active corner (the ones otherwise used by Exposé)?

Well, I'm looking for a means to activate a script through the active corners, I'm not asking any questions about the script itself, so I did not think it should be posted in the AppleScript categoriy, but sure, I'll give it a go.

  • Run script through the active corners?

I think the answer is the same - there are no external hooks into Exposé that let you control what actions to take beyond the options in System Preferences.
If you're skilled enough you could write an extension to do this, but it's hardly trivial.

  • Hiding Active Screen Corners

A while back I somehow got my Mac to show which screen corners are Active Screen Corners (a small, translucent white curve appears in the active corners), and now I want them off. The problem is, I don't remember how I got them on there in the first place. I don't want to get rid of the Active Corners, only the little things that indicate them.

    Hey, gmprunner...
I don't know if you're still monitoring this topic, or if you figured it out, but I as I was reading another post about a "blue ball," and I saw information of about white "semi-circles" in the corners to indicate active corners. It and the "blue ball" are apparently hidden Dock features. Here's the entire link
    http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20031010141631859
but to summarize... this is the Terminal command to get rid of it.
defaults write com.apple.dock wvous-showcorners -bool false
    Then restart the Dock with
    killall Dock

  • Active Screen Corners stop working without complete restart

Since I installed Snow Leopard, I've noticed a problem with my active screen corners not working. I usually only completely restart once in a while, so I usually just shut the lid at night (or when I go anywhere). with 10.5, it used to be that active screen corners always worked when I did that, but since I installed Snow Leopard, active screen corners quit working. I have to completely restart to get them to start working again.
Is there a way to fix this, or is it a bug?
    Thanks.

I tested this with a few system applications, if it helps anybody.
It also might be interesting to note that in all cases where expose won't trigger, the dock won't unhide by holding the mouse at the bottom of the screen either so long as any of the non-working applications are selected.
List of applications that also have this problem on my system:
    Textedit
    Activity Monitor
    iChat
Calculator (Unlike the other applications, the active corners don't even work on this the first time)
List of applications tested that are NOT having this problem:
    iTunes
    Safari
    Terminal
    Mail
    Address Book
    Photo Booth
    QuickTime
    Automator.
Does anybody know if the applications that are not working have anything in common? Conversely, could anybody confirm that they are NOT experiencing this problem, and that it is specific to certain system configurations, or perhaps even my system?
    Thanks in advance,
    Kevin

  • Active screen dissapears

This is an odd one at least to me.  When using a full screen display especially a game sometimes placing the cursor at the bottom of the screen results it the whole window shrinking to a border around the edge of the desktop, like a frame.  Only placing the cursor at the bottom edge and clicking once returns the app to full screen.  I have gotton used to this although it is a bit annoying at times as the game continues to play as does the sound but yesterday my wife showed me that hers does the same thing with multple windows open.
Oops just discovered the answer.  Active Corners in System Preferences on both our computers were set to Show Desktop when cursor placed in bottom right corner.  So just answered my own question, maybe it will help someone else.

You might want to try deleting the screen saver preference/plist - look in your home directory:
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.preference.desktopscreeneffect.plist

  • Cinema Display goes to sleep after connection to MacBook Pro.

Hi, I've been using my 21" Cinema Display from my old G5 as the monitor for my new MacBook Pro.  I used a Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adaptor to connect it to the MacBook Pro, and it has worked very well - until today.
Now, as soon as I turn the MacPro on (and quickly shut the lid as usual) the cinema display comes up and then - goes to sleep. And I cannot wake it up! If I open the MacPro, both monitors come up. However I'd really like to use just one monitor, the cinema display.  What has happened ?  I don't think I changed a thing.
    Hope someone can help?
    Thanks

Have you (perhaps unknowingly) got one of the screen corners set to put the screen to sleep in Exposé. System Preferences>Exposé & Spaces.
You normally have to deliberately point the mouse to the corner to sleep the screen (if active corners have been set up) perhaps if the mouse is left just hovering near an active screen corner maybe the slightest of movements is triggering the screen to sleep. Worth a look.

  • Screen suddenly black when brightness is dimmed

    Hello everybody,
I encountered a very strage behaviour yesterday at my iMac (27" 2,8GHz, 8GB, mid 2010).
Since 10 month I had the brightness of the display to maximum and no problems. Yesterday I tried to dim it to 2/3 of maximum.
I heard a very silent tone with a high frequency (like your dimmer in the livingroom for your lights), but it was not disturbing so much.
After some minutes the display got black _while_ i was working and moving the mouse.
    I could reactivate it by
    - going to sleep mode and waking up again or
    - moving the mouse to one of my active corners (which has the function to swich off the screen) and moving it again to the middle of the screen
It is not predictable, but the display goes off when it is dimmed to much.
Had somebody of you the same issue?
    Kind regards
    Reinhard

    Something i should add:
After a call to Apple I tried PRAM and SMC reset already but this did not solve the issue.

  • My Mid-2010 MacBook Pro 13" 7,1 shuts down randomly...?

Alright, so I just started having this problem today. There's no apparent cause (it just happens randomly) but it seems to happen more often if I make some sort of rapid movement with the computer it happens more often. Occasionally, the "shut down" is accompanied by a 'pop' sound.
Each time it shuts down, I get a different colored background to accompany it. I'd prefer my MBP not turn into a slideshow of colors every 10-15 minutes. I'll update this with pictures as soon as I get them into my dropbox. I've had two light tan colored shut downs, one with no color at all, one with this oceanic green color, one orange, one yellow, and one purple. I have no idea if this means anything, but I figured I'd include it just in case.
I googled a bit and random shutdowns apparently used to occur because of some issue with the power cable on older MBPs. This makes no sense because I wasn't charging when I started having this problem, but I started and it still shut down.
The only difference from stock on this MBP is that in late January I replaced another non-stock hard drive that crashed with an Intel X-25M 80GB SSD. I have no idea if this is something to do with it, but I haven't had problems with it until now if it is.
As a side note, typing this message has been the longest it's been alive without shutting down.
Please, let me know if you have any idea what can be done or if you need more information. Thanks!

    Sorry for triple posting.
I just got, for the first time, a legitimate shut down message. The screen dimmed and it popped up the standard "You need to restart your computer. Hold down the Power button until it turns off, then press the Power button again."
(In case I haven't mentioned it yet, that's what I've been doing every time this happens as it seems to be my only option).
I restarted and got the 'report to apple?' error box. I opened up to copy paste the code into a text file to upload for anyone who might know what to do with it here, but I got another random shutdown as I was choosing a location for the file save.
My computer is literally turning into the rainbow. Anywho, here are a few examples of what's happening. The red one is actually orange and the blue one is actually purple, my phone's camera apparently doesn't see very well.

It may be worth mentioning that the first few times this occurred, none of my preferences, data, and settings changed. Somewhere along the way, I lost all of my custom Dock settings, my Active Corners settings (Top right was spaces, bottom left was Exposé). Not sure what else has been lost, it seems.

  • Moving mouse pointer to menu dims window and shows all open windows at once

when i'm in safari and i move my mouse pointer to the upper left corner of a window that is almost full screen, that window dims and a black bar appears in the middle of this window with a discription of it. as an example
    APPLE=SUPPORT-DISCUSSIONS-POST MESSAGE:NEW THREAD
if i have 2 windows open one shows lower left and the other upper right and i have to click the mouse button on the window i was using to get it back and get the other behind it.
is there a setting in preferances that causes this that i can change?

This is what happens for one of the active corners for Exposé, if ("all windows") is the upper left corner. Take a look at "System preferences" , Dashboard & Exposé.

  • Photoshop Elements 11 will not allow me to open files after I updated my operating system

I recently updated my operating system with the latest upates. Now, I when I got into Elements and I try to open a file, the window where you normally click the file disappears before I can click anything.  Then I have to force quit because everything is grayed out and I can't click anything.  I have contacted adobe support but they said it is most likely a mac problem becuase the program works fine when I log into another user account. They said to contact Macsupport to check the permission for Adobe products on the current user acount.  Also, some people suggested to turn off the active corners, but that didn't work.  Anyone else have a suggestion?

    Sarah
I am having the same issue and all since I updated to the Maverick OS (well it seems that way anyway).  I am currently going through the process of repairing permissions, removing other pieces of 'non standard' software on the Mac, uninstalling Elements 11, doing a safe boot and then a download of the package again and trying a completley new install.  If this doesn't work it will be a fresh user account and start again.
There were some very helpful hints from folks about remmoving other unnecessary software which did help stablise other issues but I still cannot get Element to work.
    You could have alook at these links to see if anything helps with your issues - the last one seems most relevant;

  • Screen sleeps during Media playback (With external monitor connected)

    Here's a weird one...
With no external screen connected to my T410 I can watch the BBC iPlayer without the screen 'sleeping' after 5 minutes, which is perfect..... as I don't want the screen dimming and then going into power save mode while watching anything.
However when I connect an external monitor, in Extended desktop mode, whenever I watch the iPlayer the screens shut down after 5 minutes.
Im sure there's a setting but just cannot find it.
    Any help appreciated

Has anyone experimented with tip 2 (active corners)?  Perhaps it still works.

  • Yosemite: Turning off Macbook Pro screen (lid open) with external monitor connected

Here we go again, this worked pre-Yosemite. Now it seems this trick no longer works. After following these steps again the screen on my Macbook Pro now turns on after logging in and opening the clam shell.
Anyone figure out/know a way to turn off the screen on the Macbook Pro with external monitors plugged in? (yes, closing the clam shell–but I'm referring to keeping the clam shell open with the display turned off)
    http://gizmodo.com/5938452/a-trick-to-make-using-an-external-monitor-with-your-m acbook-way-better
    To execute in Terminal:
    sudo nvram boot-args="iog=0x0"
    To undo in Terminal:
    sudo nvram -d boot-args
Once you type it into terminal I believe you need to enter your password. I then restart my machine. Now the TRICK is to either restart your machine with the lid already closed (hit restart then slam the lid!) OR turn the machine on for the first time (then quickly slam the lid!) once you are past the login screen you can open the lid.

  • Strange trackpad

    Hi everyone
have a little problem with my trackpad, would be nice if you could help me.
my trackpad is not working, but in a strange way. i can move the little arrow as I like to, but the active corners nor the dock are reacting, neither can I click on something. this means I can do nothing with my ibook. first idea was, to reinstall max os x. to do that, i needed an external mouse. the mouse was working and so i was able to reinstall mac os x (without deleting. now i have an interesting situation: with my mouse (logitech) everything is working very well, but only until I am using my trackpad for a click. after this click, even my mouse is not working anymore (same situation like in the beginning) until i restarted my computer.
I am a long time windows user and changed my mind about a year ago. But I never had such a confusing problem with my computer.... please help! thanks in advance!
