Active Directory, 1 mac on the network, and how my hair turned grey early!

Okay...here's the deal... I am using an iMac intel 2 ghz on a windows network. Active Directory/Exchange, the whole gammut. Wanted to connect the Tiger side to the networked mapped drives... I've tried configuring Directory Access and I have binded myself to the network. Problem is..the network drives and the network printers are not working. I've also tried the Go>Connect to Server route in the finder. Is it a problem with the SMB set up? What other details do you need for me to be able to resolve this. Thanks

Sorry for being so vague. We have about 6 mapped drives here in the office. I don't even SEE them... When I click "servers" in the finder...I see all the computers on the network...but it says the alias' aren't correct. I actually have admin rights to the full network, and can even see the network printers...but when trying to print to one, I get: Unable to connect to SAMBA host, will retry in 60 seconds...DEBUG: cgpdftops - using PPD file"/ Then "Connection failed with error NTSTATUS (Couldn't catch the rest of the error...sorry)

You will need to enable file sharing in System Preferences
as well as setting up sharing and permissions for the
directories that you want shared. You may also want to
setup a non-administrative user or allow limited guest
access. The user would require entering a user name and
password to make the connection, but would allow remotes
to change files, if set up tat way.
As for serving iTunes media, better to post in the iTunes forum.

I use iTunes Match, and I notice that when I play "matched" versions of 2Pac's "I Ain't Mad at Cha", all of the curse words are skipped over. Just to make sure it wasn't my copy of the track, I played it off of my permanent library, and the song plays properly. So I believe that Apple has seen fit to censor the song. I haven't read about this anywhere, but I'm pretty upset about it. I own the track -- I have a copy of 2Pac's Greatest Hits, which I ripped. If I turn off iTunes Match and transfer the song to my mobile devices with a USB cable, I could play it the way I want to hear it. I think iTunes Match is a fantastic concept, but I don't need Apple deciding what kinds of music I should or shouldn't be listening to.
Incidentally, I haven't noticed other tracks with curse words censored. It may be that I loaded them onto my mobile device before Apple began censoring.

It's annoying when you don't want to bebug, I agree, but the
situation
you're describing is really useful when you need to debug
Flash content in a
browser. ;)

Assuming you have the FLA source file, open it in the Flash
authoring
tool and head over to File > Publish Settings. Select the
Flash tab, then
uncheck the "Permit debugging" checkbox, then republish the
SWF.

TS1398 My macbook is connected to the internet, but my iPad just stopped connecting. I have "forgotten" the network and restarted, and I have "turned off" the iPad. It still says it's not connected to the internet, but the wifi signal is strong.

My ipad was working, and then just said it wasn't connected to the internet. I have forgotten the network and rejoined, I have turned off the ipad (slid on the arrow), and still no luck. The macbook is working with no problem. Help.

Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.

Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

Those are the instructions for your computer's iTunes (i.e. using the Store menu at the top of your computer's iTunes and selecting 'View My Account' on it). If you are doing it on your iPad then are you following the instructions for iOS devices :
To unhide your purchases
Depending on the content type, open the App Store, iBooks, or iTunes Store on your device.
Scroll to the bottom of the main page.
If you're not already signed in, tap Sign In.
Tap your Apple ID name, then tap View Account.
Scroll down on the Account pane, and tap Hidden Purchases.
Locate the item you would like to unhide then tap the Unhide button.

Once the ntp setting is initially loaded, it should not need to be changed. But you know that, of course.
If you're looking to automate ntp configuration as part of system imaging (SIU, InstaDMG, etc) and client set-up, then that's certainly possible; that sort of discussion is regular fodder on the Mac Enterprise mailing list. somewhere on the windows machineshould be something like "network setup wizard". exactly where it is and what it is called i cannot remember off the top of my head, windows help is actually slightly useful here, it should have a link to it.
all the options checked on the mac are only what services the mac is offering to other machines, they have nothing to do with the services it can access (mostly...).
oh yeah, to actually connect to the pc after you have turned its sharing on, use the finder, or, when it does not show the pc (this happens on and off, possibly a refresh problem apple...) choose go --> connect to server and enter smb://<pc's name or ip>
to find the ip, the easiest way i think is
start --> run --> cmd ->> ipconfig

How do I share a folder on mac mini with other macs in the network?

Howdy all!
The scenario I have in mind is that I have one folder in our Mac Mini (used as Home Theater) with all the family's music files on it. The rest of the family would be able to access the folder and copy the music they prefer onto their own computers (iMacs and Macbooks). The other computers would have read only access, they would not be able to alter the contents of the original file (to prevent accidental deletion). Only the user of the Mini Home Theater could alter the contents of said file.
I have tried pulling up the "Get Info" window and clicking the "Shared Folder" and "Locked" boxes, but all this seems to do is make the user of the Mac Mini unable to alter the contents of the folder. All the other macs on the network can access and alter the folder contents no problem.
What am I missing?

This isn't quite what I was looking for. I don't want to share the folder with users on the same computer--I want to share the folder with users on other computers.
Unless there is some way to identify users on other computers. How can I do that?

first run "ipconfig /flushdns" and then "ipconfig /registerdns" finally restart dns service and check the situation,also you can check dns logs computer management ->Event viewer->Custom Views->Server roles->DNS.

Macs on the network say they "print" but nothing is actually printed

I have a Canon MF4350 connected via USB. It works as a local printer. Other Macs on the network can see it as a shared printer, and when you print it looks like printing work. But nothing is printed.
Canon cannot help, Apple cannot help.
Downloading the latest drivers from Canon just make the printer not work at all.
Tried everything I can think of and done a few things people recommend here - nothing works.

A previous postee who had the same issue and need to connect to the shared printer found that if the Mac that was connecting to the share did not have the UFRII driver installed locally, he was able to connect and print. The driver will be located in HD > Library > Printers > Canon > UFR2. Delete this UFR2 folder and contents and empty the Trash. Then also trash the UFRII Backgrounder plist file, located in HD > Library > Launch Agents and is called jp.co.canon.UFR2.BG.plist, and then restart the Mac. Now if you try connecting to the share, are you able to print?

You need to set the option to create a mobile account using the Directory Utility app.

I am having an issue with a G5 Tower running 10.5.8 failing to connect to other macs on the network. I try to connect to our xserver and any other mac I get an error message that reads ‘EMSG_CONNECTION_FAILED’.
Anyone have any ideas?

Turns out the 'node' on the hub had failed completely, ethernet cable was OK.
