Active Directory Administrative Center (Server 2012 R2) crashes when running global search

When running a global search in ADAC using the Server 2012 R2 version, it always without fail crashes when initiating a search using the global search option. This occurs when running natively on a server or using RSAT on Windows 8.1. The error seems
to be due to the .NET Runtime.
Has anyone else experienced this or found a fix/workaround?

Just to keep this problem alive... ADAC on Windows 8.0 was running fine (Global search was the best part) and it was super fast when comparing with Windows 7 ADAC version. The problem occured with Windows 8.1 Preview and continued with Windows 8.1.
It seems the problem lies with some powershell library, because it is also impossible to uninstall RSAT tools because of the "API and Powershell cmdlets" part of WSUS remote server tools. I tried removing this package through DISM commands and it always
fails. CBS log file show some error about registry entry being deleted. When I've checked TiWorker.exe execution during DISM removal, the problem occure while checking for a particular registry entry about Microsoft.Update.Administration or something, which
is present as a registry entry and also as a file in the WinSxS folder, so it remains a mistery why this error occure.
What I've notices is that ADAC crashes also when trying to change DC. The error is the same, but when debugged, it seems that the application is trying to remove the previous PSDrive, which does not exist.
My assumption is that someone erroneusly tried to connect the console just with the DC with Windows Server 2012 R2 OS, and then made a mistake not to check within the code if the PSDrive was connected. This is the only thing that make sense.

Server 2008 R2 does not have a copy user feature. Did they add this to 2012 or 2012 R2?
Seems like an odd commission in 2008 R2 since a very common way to create new user accounts is by making a copy of an existing account or account template and saving the extra steps of having to manually add common security group memberships to every account.
If you have to open ADUC every time you need to copy an account, you might as well just use ADUC full time instead and forget about ADAC.

We are currently running Windows Server 2012 Active Directory and would like to upgrade to Windows Server 2012 R2 AD. Is it OK to just do an in-place upgrade, or is it advisable to build new domain controllers on R2? Are there any guides or articles anyone
can recommend?

I installed server 2012 sharepoint found 2013 sql server 2012 and create a new forest on active directory domain sevice
now I want to install office web apps server 2013 but when I run the setup said me can't install office web apps server on the domain name that installed sharepoint .
how can I create second domain name on this active directory domain service to install office web apps server ?

Active Directory RPC Ports - Server 2012 R2

My networking team are looking to restrict the ports from clients to Domain Controllers.
They have opened the following ports:
TCP and UDP 389
TCP 636
TCP 3268
TCP 3269
TCP and UDP 88
TCP and UDP 53
TCP and UDP 445
UDP 123
TCP and UDP 464
UDP 138
TCP 9389
UDP 137
TCP 139
TCP/UDP 49152 - 65535
The question is do we need all of the TCP/UDP RPC Ports (49152 - 65535)? We are running Exchange and Lync. I have found articles (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/224196) which suggest I can use a static port but am concerned what impact this will have on
services.
Any help greatly appreciated.

No you do not need all the high ports open and you can restrict them and be perfectly fine.
We restrict our high ports to a range of 50,000-51,000

Obviously you can't click on Start in 2012 so if you move the mouse to the lower right and then click search you can search and find Component Services. You can also find it in the Administrative Tools.

MS Active Directory as LDAP Server - Email & Group variables do not pickup values

Hello Experts
We have OBIEE 10.1.3.4.2 using MS Active Directory as LDAP Server. Init Block "Authentication" (4 variables setup - USER, DISPLAYNAME, EMAIL and GROUP) seems to work fine, but when you do a "Test" and supply userid and password , only USER and DISPLAYNAME showup. Email and Group variables are blank.

Just USER and DISPLAYNAME variables get populated and I think they are coming from MSAD. However, the Email and Group membership information from MSAD does not flow back to OBIEE Server.

The loading of SWFs from AIR has a different Security model than that of the WebPlayer. There is a workaround to loading plugins in AIR: If you use a static plugin this should work for you. To do this: Link in the plugin at compile time, and pass the PluginInfoResource to the loadPlugin() method.

Macbook Pro crashes when running on battery

Hi.
My Macbook Pro crashes when running in battery. It seems it doesn't happen when connected to the power.
Is there any way to know if it's a battery malfunction?
Because Apple changed the motherboard a month ago or so because Nvidia broke. So it could be also the connector to the battery?
Is there any tests I can run?

I would take it back to Apple and have them check it. You may have got a replacement logic board with a problem. Apple usually use rebuilt ones.

Test Stand crashing when running ESS

Test Stand is crashing when running ESS and one of the test fails. I am able to run that same test alone and there are no issues. I am seeing the following messege in the windows event log.
Faulting application testexec.exe, version 13.0.0.0, stamp 4a9eca49, faulting module cvirte.dll, version 9.0.0.330, stamp 48dd23b1, debug? 0, fault address 0x000ac355.

1) What is ESS?
2) Are you calling a dll from TestStand? If so make sure the settings for passing parameters to the dll are exactly correct or it could cause memory corruption. If not, how exactly is teststand calling the test?

Why does system suite pro 12 crash when running file cleaner is running while firefox is installed? If I uninstall firefox then system suite pro 12 won't crash.

When I downloaded the newest version of firefox system suite pro 12 crashes when running file cleaner after I uninstall firefox system suite pro 12 doesn't crash. I have window 7 premium home edition 64 bit.

You should know a few things before before getting started:
1. Registry "cleaners" and "system optimizers" like SystemSuite are very unreliable, cause more problems then they propose to fix, have little to no benefit, and are somewhat of a scam. Running them on a system is almost guaranteeing a crash or hiccups somewhere along the process. running them is never a good idea. all you need is a good, simple, free anti-virus (like Microsoft Security Essentials), and use the built in Windows Utilities to clean and sped up your computer if needed.
2. This is a Firefox forum, so if you are having a problem with SystemSuite, we might not be able to help you.
I'll give you a few things you can do to see if this is just a Windows problem:
Run all Windows Updates, install all needed service packs, etc.
Update your graphics driver (Firefox uses your graphics card for some rendering, and an out of date graphics card driver can cause problems. [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-upgrade-my-graphics-drivers https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-upgrade-my-graphics-drivers].
Update all your plugins (Flash, Java, etc.): [http://www.mozilla.org/plugincheck/ http://www.mozilla.org/plugincheck/].
Download and Install MalwareBytes Anti-Malware, run a full Scan. [http://www.malwarebytes.org/ http://www.malwarebytes.org/]. This helps check that there are no viruses on your computer causing issues. You can uninstall this program after you clean off any infections.
Plus, I'd strongly recommend removing systemsuite and any other "optimizers" you might have.

Dynamics CRM 2015 Install requires Active Directory on VM Windows 2012 R2 Server

Hello,
I'm trying to install Dynamics CRM 2015 on a standalone VM not connected to a domain (it's running under WIndows 8.1 Professional). The VM was configured using WIndows Server 2012 R2. I'm getting an error message shortly into the install process stating
it needs to access Active Directory.
How can I get around this issue - I just want to Install this CRM on the VM without getting into complicate network/AD issues.
Can you please advise ?

CRM requires AD no way around that so the most likely solution is to install it on that server or on a VM not connected to your other networks

Server 2012 R2 Crashes with NIC Team

Server 2012 R2 Core configured for Hyper-V. Using 2-port 10Gbe Brocades, we want to use NIC teaming for guest traffic. Create the team... seems fine. Create the virtual switch in Hyper-V, and assign it to the NIC team... seems fine. Create
a VM, assign the network card to the Virtual switch... still doing okay. Power on the VM... POOF! The host BSOD's. If I remove the switch from the VM, I can run the VM from the console, install the OS, etc... but as soon as I reassign the virtual
NIC to the switch, POOF! Bye-bye again. Any ideas here?

EDIT: A little more info... Two 2-port Brocades and two Nexus 5k's. Running one port on NIC1 to one 5k, and one port on NIC2 to the other 5k. NIC team is using Switch Independent Mode, Address Hash load balancing, and all adapters active.

Have you updated the NIC driver to latest?
If issue persists after updating the driver, we can use WinDbg to analyze a crash dump.
If the NIC driver cause the BSOD, please consult the NIC manufacture about this issue.
