Active mode FTP access

Hi,
I have some problems accessing my hosted FTP server. It is hosted on Windows NT so Active Mode FTP is needed. However, when I access I can login but it will not conduct a directory listing. I tried the Terminal as well as Transmit applications. From a windows machine on same LAN it works. My FTP host claims it is a local issue which seems to be true.
Searching the forums it seems as "disabling firewall" would make it work. I did that, but it does not work still.
The error display in terminal is as follows:
My-iMac:~ troels$ ftp -A XXXXXXXXXX.dk
Connected to XXXXXXXXXX.dk.

Thanks in advance.

Troels

I think given that my router's NAT and SPI act as a robust firewall, I may as well just turn the OS X firewall off and 'solve' this problem.
Thanks for your help,

  • FTP client is not working in active mode

    Hi,
I have a ftp issue trying to download iweb files.
My provider enabled me a ftp access.
I tried to connect to it with transmit or rbrowser ftp client (passive mode disabled). The connection works well but i can not retrieve the list of files.
However using my PC and filezilla ftp client in active mode, the connection did work properly.
Any idea to help make this connection work on my mac ?
    Thanks

    Perhaps this will help...
    http://slacksite.com/other/ftp.html
"The main problem with active mode FTP actually falls on the client side. The FTP client doesn't make the actual connection to the data port of the server--it simply tells the server what port it is listening on and the server connects back to the specified port on the client. From the client side firewall this appears to be an outside system initiating a connection to an internal client--something that is usually blocked."

  • CS-ACS SE FTP "active" mode

    Dear,
The CS-ACS SE unit seems to enforce passive-FTP
when sending backup sets or retrieving CSV files.
The FTP server (Unix based) mandatorily uses
IPFilter to protect us from unauthorised accesses,
and the passive-FTP mode is quite awkward. (IPFilter
does not have the intelligence to work gracefuly
    with passive-FTP).
Is it possible to change/control the way
    CS-ACS-SE works:
a/ Could it be set to use "active" FTP?
b/ If only passive-FTP: can we restrict t
the port range used to a small
    predictable range?

I don't remember coming across an option where choosing between active and passive mode FTP is possible. You could consider changing the filter to permit/drop based on IP only and leave the port info out.

One thing I don't understand here is why do you have
    serverfarm host ftp
      transparent
With this in place the ACE will not rewrite the destination IP and the server will receive a packet destined to the VIP. This is not very common, but it can work. The rest of your config seems to be fine, except the missing lbpol policy.

  • How to  Connect to ftp server in active mode using the finder

How can I can I use the finder command "connect to server" to connect to a ftp server using the active Mode. With Cyberduck I can connect to this server only in active mode. Apparently the connect to server command uses the ftp passive mode.
Or is it an other way to mount on the desktop a ftp server in active mode?
    Thank you

Passive mode can be disabled in your network settings, but I have a feeling what you're actually asking for is the ability to upload, and the answer to that is the Finder can't do it. There are some filesystem plugins out there that provide this functionality, but they cost money.

  • BPEL FTP Adapter Active Mode

Does BPEL FTP Adapter supports active ftp mode (instead of passive). Apparently the ftp site for one of the Interfaces uses FTP Adapter and that ftp server it is using supports ONLY active ftp sessions, NOT passive.

Thanks Everybody for the prompt response .
    1) What error does one get when trying to connect to FTP Sever which only support active mode
No Error , but no file transfer happens. SR and Bug Request for the same is already in place .
    QUESTION
    ========
Does BPEL FTP Adapter supports active ftp mode (instead of passive).
    ANSWER
    ======
No, FTP Adapter only supports passive mode. For that purpose there is an Enhancement Request
already, the Bug 6866124 - NEED SUPPORT FOR PASSIVE FTP ADAPTER AND CUSTOM FTP
    COMMANDS :
    1. The FTP Server needs to be active for the Adapter to work. So, both FTP Server and the FTP adapter must be active for it to work.
Also you only support PASSIVE mode in our FTP JCA adapter. ACTIVE mode is currently
considered bad practice and a security vulnerability.
But, we would require both ACTIVE and PASSIVE modes.
    2. Custom commands are not supported. But, we need the samples for custom FTP Commands and support for it.
for example: quote site fixrecfm 90...

  • Any way to set "active mode" for FTP, or to use sFTP instead?

I have a web host that does not support passive FTP mode.   I need to either set the mode to be "active mode", or I need to use secure FTP (sFTP).  Is there any support for either of these within Muse?

    Hi
By default , Adobe Muse FTP option uses " Passive Mode" , I am afraid its not possible to switch to "Active Mode" or to switch to Secure FTP. Alternatively, you may export the site locally using " Export as HTML " and then you may use third party FTP client to upload the site to your third party hosting using Active or Secure FTP.
Let me know if you have any further query.

  • Some FTP servers require active mode for connection.

Is there any option for select active mode during FTP server connection in iweb ?

No, but go and Click on the Apple symbol on your Mac and then open System Preferences.  Once is System Preferences go and open Network and then in the bottom right corner of Network click on Advanced and then click on Proxies and at the bottom of the Proxies page there is a setting called passive ftp mode that might be check by default.  If it is, then try unchecking it and then uploading your site with iWeb ftp and seeing what happens.
If this does not work, then your other option of course is to publish your site to a local folder from iWeb and then use something like Cyberduck to upload your site.

  • Dreamweaver CS4 FTP Access Denied error

We recently purchased and installed Adobe CS 4 Design Suite. I am trying to install and configure  Dreamweaver CS4 to maintain our website.
I had a trial version on a PC which works fine.
I have a Mac OS X 10.5.8 and I installed the newly purchased Dreamweaver CS4 on it. When I try defining a new website as suggested here (http://help.adobe.com/en_US/Dreamweaver/10.0_Using/WSBE25912D-A9DE-4ba1-9F85-4C692F5C14ADa .html#WS269BF2C1-74ED-4797-9D9D-6EC283FE7645a)
and connect using FTP, it connects successfully.  It shows me local and remote files. But if I try to download any file it gives an error such as:
/sandeepkolte/activities.aspx - error occurred - An FTP error occurred - cannot get activities.aspx.  Access denied.  The file may not exist, or there could be a permission problem.
If I try to upload a file, it gives an error:
    Started: 4/11/10 10:52 PM
about.aspx - error occurred - Access denied.  The file may not exist locally,  may be open in another program, or there could be a local permission problem.
File activity incomplete. 1 file(s) or folder(s) were not completed.
    Files with errors: 1
    about.aspx
    Finished: 4/11/10 10:52 PM
I tried installing FileZilla to check if I can upload/download files from website using a ftp client. And I can successfully do that. As I suggested earlier, I can connect, upload/download files from another PC with a older version as well as new trial version of DW on the same home network.
I also tried toggling Passive/Active mode but it did not work.
I have no firewall on Mac OS X. Can you please help me figure out what must be causing this and how to resolve it?

  • WD My Book NAS drive, Cisco VPN router and FTP access

    Hello:
I have a Western Digital My Book World Editon II NAS drive that is connected through a Cisco ASA 5500 VPN router.
This NAS drive has a service to use it as an FTP server using port 21 as default or other specific port.
I also have a XP PC in which I installed Filezilla where I am trying to access the NAS files.
Only problem is that Filezilla apparently connects to the NAS drive but it lists the directory as empty.Changing to Active mode makes no difference.
Does this sounds like a problem with the VPN configuration?
Do I have to configure some kind of port forwarding on the VPN router for port 21?
Or does the VPN router has nothing to do with this problem?
    Thanks for your help

Would you "Solve" this question please ?

  • Can't disable my FTP Access ports!

Hi. I'm running MacOS X 10.3.9 on a Mac Powerbook with all of Apple's latest Security Updates installed. I did a virgin installation and no other software programs has been installed yet, and I need to find out if my current indicated FTP settings in the built-in Firewall panel is normal or whether maybe my system has been somehow hacked or attacked by an unknown virus.
In my computer's System Preferences/Sharing/Services panel, all options are currently off, and none of the items are checked. In the System Preferences/Sharing/Firewall panel, all options are also unchecked. But even though I've unchecked all items and they're supposed to be off, my FTP Access port is still showing the description "FTP Access (20-21, 1024-65535 from 20-21). First question - this lengthy description about my ports seem strange. Does everyone else show this same description in Panther, or is it just me?
But even more strange and bizarre is when I hover my mouse over the same FTP Access description, a balloon notation will pop up with the following information . . .
. . . "Ports 20 and 21 on your computer are open for FTP. If others connect to your computer from ports 20 and 21, then ports 1024 through 65535 are open. When you turn on FTP Access in the Services pane, you also allow the service access through the firewall on the indicated ports. To stop access through the firewall you must turn off this service using the Services pane." . . .
Personally, I don't want any ports open on my computer. Therefore this notation seems strange to me, especially considering that all my ports are supposed to be "off", therefore why is this notation still indicating that ports 20 and 21 are open. Even more strange is no matter what I do and no matter what settings I change, I can't alter the configuration of ports 20 and 21 and make them show as closed. I've tried everything, but ports 20 and 21 still remain open no matter what I do, at least according to this message. Question - Is what I'm seeing normal for everyone or are other users showing something different?
Below is an image of what I'm talking about :

Thanks in advance. Any help regarding this would be appreciated.
    17" Mac Powerbook 1.5GHz   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode.  Shut down the computer and then power it back up. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application unistaller. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

Yes the phone belongs to me. It was purchased from United Kingdom Vodafone to West Africa, i had to factory unlock to use any sim in it. so it belongs to me. I did the activation myself, now after updating my iphone to the latest update, it required a user id and password to activate the phone, but anytime i enter the details, it tells me the user Id is not correct but the password is correct..

  • Firefox 18.0.1 consuming excessive CPU--both in Standard and Safe Mode--when accessing Gmail

Firefox 18.0.1 consumes excessive CPU--both in Standard and Safe Modes--when accessing Gmail (in Standard Mode). CPU consumption averages around 56% on my dual-CPU, Windows 7 desktop.
The only way to stop this from happening it to open Gmail in "HTML" mode. When I open Gmail in Standard mode, a "Loading..." status shows at the top of the page. After about 30 seconds, a error window pops-up within the Gmail page saying that there is a performance problem and provides the option to load Gmail in a limited, "HTML" mode. Clicking the HTML Mode link solves the issue. I've been using Firefox for years and have never seen this issue until now.

  • Using target disc mode to access a broken laptop

    I'm using a 1.33 15" PB with 10.3.9
and broken early 12" still on 10.2.8
During an attempted repair of the 12" DC in jack, also replacing the broken CD/DVD Drive with a SD using a replacement lower case and screen that still had the screen control? and dc in jack in it, broke the connection for the screen control on the 12" logic board, Thought I had it effectively soldered back on, but appears not. Screen won't light up, But appears to powering up, get the dong and hard drive spins up.
Was told to connect the two units together with firewire and use the Target disc mode to access the data on the broken machine. (which normally needs to be logged into on start up normally, but can't, not being able see the screen)
With the 12" powered up, I restarted the 15" holding the "T" key down and get a screen that has a Yellow "Y" like icon that moves around the screen, "O" with 3 extensions off it, 1 solid and other 2 dashes.
After a minute or so, shut it down, now sure if it was eventually going to work or should have waited longer. or done something else?, Was expecting the normal desktop to show up with some kind of icon for the other computer, then maybe figure out from there how to transfer the data to the new unit.
Have no idea what to do next or what the problem might be, if I'm doing something wrong, or have to change settings somewhere on the 15" before doing it?
This a used unit, with a fresh 10.3 install and upgraded to 10.3.9 Haven't even gone into the system preferences yet and don't know what most of it's for anyway, (Just did the initial set up) or if the 12" has hardware problems still, etc,
Have a USB external HD adapter and can take the HD out of the 12" instead and see If that'll work? But still not sure if I'm going to encounter something else again that's not easy to figure out in order to get the data off it. Transfer it to the 15" or be able to use it on the external drive
Thanks in advance, And hopefully simple instructions....

Thanks, That eventually worked, Oddly produced an open OS 9 Virtual PC 3 Application folder on the 15" desktop that I installed on the 12" long ago and never used before the external drive icon as I named it for the 12" showed up
Clicking on the external hard drive icon had it open the 15" system folder? Hard drive content window (the os 10.3.9 having a different format than what I'm used to seeing)
All the familiar folders from the 12" were there, but the couple times I tried to open one of them, the external hard drive icon and related entire open desktop window, (Hard drive content) disappeared and produced an error message to properly eject the item, But there nothing there to eject anymore, subsequent attempts to get it back failing, But eventually got it up again.
But can't open the 12" mail application to retrieve my old emails and can't seem to find the file to rebuild the 15" mailbox into what I had in my 12" or save/find those emails, but not sure where to look, must be files somewhere for them.
Every time I click on the mail app in the 12" file, it pops down into application bar and disappears. Tried dragging it into the 15"s icon and that not doing anything either. Also dragging it into the app tool bar and trying to open it and it doing nothing, Presume unable to in the later os.
Will this still happen if I take the HD out? and connect with my USB adapter? Need to boot from this? (have no idea how to do that)
Any suggestions on where to find my old mailbox files? Tried opening a number of odd files in the system folder and found nothing in some of them.
I'm presuming this isn't working because it's still an OS X 10.2.8 application But all the other files appear to still be there and think I found the mail before at one time.
Also got an error in iphoto, Can't open it because it needs to be opened in the later version. But found the 12" iphoto file and dragged it to the desktop and took a bit to transfer, so presume I should move it or specific files in it into the 15" iphoto 15" file to retreive the photo's. (and also moved my camera app to reinstall) Same with my itunes which only had a few cd's in it.
The 12" desktop also took a bit to find, but moved that file to the 15" desk top and those files took a little while to transfer. Some of those are MS Word files so also moved the MS Word app and expect to need to reinstall it before trying to open any of those word doc's.
Still wonder why it produced that os 9 as an open folder which was a virtual pc 3 program I never got around to using,

  • Remote ftp access

I cannot get remote ftp access to my NMH405. I have remote access through https://ciscomediahub.com/ and can browse through my files this way, but I need to have remote access through ftp as well. I have set ut ftp access and it is working locally on my home network.
    What is my ftp address?
Can someone please help me with this problem?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

If it works in your home network that means that you've set it up correctly. What you need to do know is provide the FTP service to the outside world. This generally means that you want to open up your router on port 20 and 21 and point those to the mediahub's internal IP address. If that is done, you can connect to it from the outside world via ftp://<external_ip_address_whatever_that_may_be>
    Good luck,
