Active screen corners suddenly quits for no reason

Friends,
Active screen corners sometimes suddenly quits on me for no reason. I'm breezing along, doing my thing and periodically moving the mouse to one corner to "show desktop" or another to show "all windows." Suddenly, moving the mouse to the corner does nothing. I can't predict when this will occur. Restarting solves the problem.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
Steve

Are you using an external monitor, but not all the time? I get the exact same behavior sometimes when I disconnect my MacBook Pro from my external monitor and then try to activate Expose using active screen corners. It simply doesn't work. However, if I restart, everything works just fine because Leopard recognizes my laptop screen as the primary display. Seems like a bug to me, but I'm not sure. I'd like to hear from others who may know more about the issue.

  • Audiobooks suddenly quitting for no reason

    This has happened on my daughter-in-law's 30Gb iPod video, my 2nd Gen 30 GB iPod, and my 2 GB iPod Nano.
    While playing an audio book, the book suddenly stops and the screen displays the menu, when I try to go back to the audiobook, instead of picking up where I left off, it starts over from the beginning. This is HIGHLY frustrating if I'm halfway through an 8, 9, or 10 our long book!!
    Anyone else ever experience this problem?

    Grey Randall,
    Is it the same audio book on all 3, or different audio books?
    Does the audio book play through in iTunes?
    Thank you,
    Nathan C.

    I have not updated anything on the machine in weeks.

    This has just started today; yesterday, I downloaded a Zone Alarm update which was genuine and I have done a full scan for virus and malware – nothing!
    I have tried the FN+NumLock idea which I saw on the internet but that doesn’t seem to work.
    Any ideas?

  • "Active Screen Corners" no longer works. Why???

    I have been using "Active Screen Corners," but it suddenly doesn't work. Keyboard shortcuts for it works, though.
    Anyone who knows why?

    The 'Active Screen Corners' are written to the 'com.apple.dock.plist' file.
    /Users/yourhome/Library/Preferences/ com.apple.dock.plist
    Move the file to your desktop and restart.
    If that doesn't help, put the file back and restart again.
    Good luck,
    Tom

  • TS1702 iBooks keeps quitting for no reason

    iBooks keeps quitting for no reason. So tedious, so fed up with the app.

    You might have a corrupt PDF file in iBooks, a corrupted book download, the app itself might be corrupt.....have you tried deleting the app and reinstall it? You can download your books again from the purchased tab of the iBooks app. If you sync with iTunes, you can sync all of your books back to the iPad after you delete the app and reinstall it.
    In the meantime, you might want to just try quitting the app, reboot the iPad and then see how the app behaves.
    Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the iBooks app and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
    Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • IMovie quits for no reasons and its options get reset

    Just a bit ago, i was using imovie and then it quit for no reason, and it has beend oing that reciently, but I can get up fine. This time, it quit and it reset its options and I didn't tell it to do that. What is going on an d how can I fix this?
    the project seems to be uneffected.

    Perhaps you answered your own question. Garbage
    Collection.
    You need to save a reference of your implementation
    class or it will be eaten by the GC. You can do this
    by having a private Object within your Class.
    You need to keep the Server alive. Once the RMI
    Runtime had a "keep alive" thread for this but in
    newer (SDK1.4+) versions it's now up to you.
    We use this in our main() method that starts the
    server:
    Object forever = new Object();
    ... in a sync block
    wait(forever);This sounds like it is right on the money, but could you please spell out in a little more detail what I need to do? As I mentioned, I start the server like this:
    java -classpath dermpathApplet.jar:mail.jar:activation.jar:mysql-connector-java-3.0.11-stable-bin.jar com.edermpath.dermpath_client.DPAppletServer &
    DPAppletServer is very simple, looks like this:
    public class DPAppletServer {
    public DPAppletServer() {
    public static void main(String args[]) {
    try {
    new DPAppletServer();
    DataAccessImpl da=new DataAccessImpl();
    java.rmi.Naming.rebind("rmi://www.dp.mcw.edu/com.edermpath.dermpath_client.DataAccess",da);
    etc
    Do you mean that I need to modify DPAppletServer? Or DataAccessImpl? How would a private object prevent the server from being garbage collected? Where does the sync block go? Is it just for a separate thread that waits forever??
    Thank you very much for your help!

  • Exposé active screen corners - keyboard shortcuts disappear

    I use e.g. the command key shortcut for activating the active screen corners (in order to avoid that they are activated when the mouse pointer is accidentally placed in one of the screen corners). It works fine and ...then one day the command key setting disappears from the settings. The active screen corners do continue to work, but simply by moving the pointer to a corner without pressing the command key. Very frustrating. What's wrong?

    Simply go into System Preferences > Expose & Spaces.
    Select the dropdown for the appropriate corner, press the keys you want (cmd alt ctrl & shift are possible.)
    Then select the action and let go.

  • Active Screen Corners stop working without complete restart

    Since I installed Snow Leopard, I've noticed a problem with my active screen corners not working. I usually only completely restart once in a while, so I usually just shut the lid at night (or when I go anywhere). with 10.5, it used to be that active screen corners always worked when I did that, but since I installed Snow Leopard, active screen corners quit working. I have to completely restart to get them to start working again.
    Is there a way to fix this, or is it a bug?
    Thanks.

    I tested this with a few system applications, if it helps anybody.
    It also might be interesting to note that in all cases where expose won't trigger, the dock won't unhide by holding the mouse at the bottom of the screen either so long as any of the non-working applications are selected.
    List of applications that also have this problem on my system:
    Textedit
    Activity Monitor
    iChat
    Calculator (Unlike the other applications, the active corners don't even work on this the first time)
    List of applications tested that are NOT having this problem:
    iTunes
    Safari
    Terminal
    Mail
    Address Book
    Photo Booth
    QuickTime
    Automator.
    Does anybody know if the applications that are not working have anything in common? Conversely, could anybody confirm that they are NOT experiencing this problem, and that it is specific to certain system configurations, or perhaps even my system?
    Thanks in advance,
    Kevin

  • I have a MacBook Air, it automatically minimises and switches from the screen I am in for some reason ?

    I have a MacBook Air, it automatically minimises and switches from the screen I am in for some reason ?

    This problem is often caused by "Google Drive." If it's installed, I suggest you first check for an update. If that doesn't solve the problem, remove it according to the developer's instructions. You may need to boot in safe mode to do so. Back up all data before making any changes.
    If you use Google Drive and don't want to remove it, then try deselecting the option in its preferences to "show status icons." According to reports, that may be enough to stop the Finder from crashing.

  • Active screen corners do not always respond

    Sometimes, maybe due too high CPU load, or switching displays my Active screen corners do not respond.... Hitting the F9-F12 buttons do active expose, but only after re-initializing the displays (put it in other refreshrate or so), my active screen corners start reponding...
    Bug? Or am i missing something?

    Well, that seems to be a genuine bug, coz i've got the same thing (also after disconnecting an external display and putting my Macbook to sleep).

  • Mail unexpectedly quitting for no reason

    Wonder is anyone can help, I have been running Mail under 10.5.1 for some time now with no problems.
    This morning I logged in, launched Mail and everything was fine until it tried to connect and download mail and then it unexpectedly quit. This is repeatable every time and I have no idea why it is doing it.
    Anyone got any suggestions as to how to tackle it?

    PS no new software or plug ins have been added in between the time it was working and not.

  • Applications Quitting for No Reason

    Since I installed OS 4.1 on my iPhone 3G, my applications quit for no reason. Specifically, Facebook and Safari. With FB, it quits on me when I'm trying to post a line of text. Safari quits when I'm trying to load a page.
    Will there be a OS 4.2 to fix these problems?
    Thanks

    This is a user-to-user forum. No one here knows what will be released or when.
    And Apple never tells.
    Try restarting the phone (shut it down, but hold it for 10 or 15 seconds beyond the point where the "slide to power off" appears).
    This often helps.

  • Hiding Active Screen Corners

    A while back I somehow got my Mac to show which screen corners are Active Screen Corners (a small, translucent white curve appears in the active corners), and now I want them off. The problem is, I don't remember how I got them on there in the first place. I don't want to get rid of the Active Corners, only the little things that indicate them.

    Hey, gmprunner...
    I don't know if you're still monitoring this topic, or if you figured it out, but I as I was reading another post about a "blue ball," and I saw information of about white "semi-circles" in the corners to indicate active corners. It and the "blue ball" are apparently hidden Dock features. Here's the entire link
    http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20031010141631859
    but to summarize... this is the Terminal command to get rid of it.
    defaults write com.apple.dock wvous-showcorners -bool false
    Then restart the Dock with
    killall Dock

    Hey everyone in Apple world!
    I figured out how to fix the flashing yellow screen problem that I've been having on my MBP!  Yessssss!!!
    I found this super handy website with the golden answer: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
    I followed the instructions on this page and here's what I did:
    Resetting NVRAM / PRAM
    Shut down your Mac.
    Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
    Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
    Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
    I went through the 6 steps above twice, just to make sure I got rid of whatever stuff was holding up my bootup process.  Since I did that, my MBP boots up just like normal.  No flashing yellow screen anymore!!
    (Note that I arrived at this solution when I first saw this page: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2570?viewlocale=en_US)
    Let me know if this works for you!
