Active Twinax

Looking at the transceiver support matrix for the Fabric Interconnects I do not see the 7m or 10m Active Twinax cables listed, suggesting that 5m is the maximum cable length for copper. However the longer Active Twinax cables are listed as an option in DesignXpert. Can anyone confirm that Active Twinax cables will actually work for connecting the FEX to the FI and are fully supported by TAC? Or is there a good reason why they have been left of the support matrix?
Table 3 here: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/ps10265/ps10276/data_sheet_c78-524724.html
Thanks

Hubert,
They're in the compatibility matrix but only show being supported by NX-OS 4.2(1)N2(1)
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/interfaces_modules/transceiver_modules/compatibility/matrix/OL_6974.html
I don't know about the Bit Error Rate though.  The fact that they're supported in 4.2.1 but not in 5.x makes me think its a testing thing rather than a functional BER thing.  I could be wrong on that though.  Short answer is not supported.

    Hi
does SFP-H10GB-ACU7M and SFP-H10GB-ACU10M support FCoE if they are used in Nexus5000 running 5.0.3
I heard rumors thats it could be that these active Twinax do not support FCoe because they could net reach the BER which is necessary for FCoE

  • Differance in Active Passive Twinax Cable

I have 2 Nexus 7000 and 2 Nexus 5000 which connect to FI and the UCS. What I am doing is we purchased the APC racks that allow for able management for the Nexus 7000. I am making the move in a couple step process in order for the least amount of downtime.  The distance from the Nexus equipment will be about 10m away at longest. I see that my Nexus 7000 are connected using the SFP-H10GB-ACU7M and can purchase the  SFP-H10GB-ACU10M. This is an Active cable. But the Nexus 7000 are connected to the Nexus 5000 using the SFP-H10GB-CU5M which is a passive cable. I have been trying to find a CU10M but the longest is 7M. From what I have found on the cisco site at the bottom link. I do not know what the difference is of the Active and Passive cable and having problems googleing what the difference is. Could I get some clarity?

    SFP-H10GB-ACU10M=
    10-m 10G SFP+ Twinax cable assembly, active
    SFP-H10GB-CU5M=
    5-m 10G SFP+ Twinax cable assembly, passive

passive twinax max distance is 5m, if you need more, e.g. 7 and 10m, you need active twinax.
Active copper cables contain electrical components in the connectors that boost signal levels. This makes active copper cables slightly more expensive than passive copper cables; however, they can connect the Converged Network Adapter (CNA) to a top-of-the-rack switch over longer distances than passive copper cables.

  • New 10 Meter twinax cable

According to the updated compatibility matrix, the new 10 Meter twinax SFP-H10GB-ACU10M cable does not show interoperability with the Catalyst 6500 67xx 10 Gig linecards (With CVR-X2-SFP10G converter for X2 ports). The shorter 1-5 meter twinax cables show that they are interoperable.

Does anyone know if this is incorrect and just not yet updated.
    Thanks.

I suspect it might have something to do with the CVR-X2-SFP10G, seeing that the converter module data sheet also does not list any length of the Active Twinax cables being compatible.

  • Connecting N5K and Brocade CNA 1860

Tried 1, 3 and 7 m Cisco twinax cables, but Brocade is always reporting unsupported SFP. What should be used? Is there any twinax vendor that's is supported by both?
    Thanks.

yeah, I found that link to and this part is disturbing:
"If you want to connect a Brocade CNA to a Cisco ToR switch (Nexus), you could use the EMC active twinax cable.  Otherwise, you'll need to use optical since the Cisco switch will log an error if you attempt to use the Brocade cable."
But going optical is very expensive, we have over 20 servers and we would need 40 SFP+ for CNA and 40 SFP+ for Cisco...
I need someone who actually have  up and running connection btw Brocade CNA and N5K to share what he used

The twinax copper 10 Gig SFPs such as the one you cite are prefabricated cables with transceivers already attached. See the pictures on the top left of the data sheet to visualize what you get.
Controlling that mating of transceiver to the copper media is how they are able to ensure reliable operation at 10 Gbps over copper.

will the 10 GB iscsi fiber / Copper connect directly to the UCS 6248 and what is the type of Cables ?
will SFP and SFP+ connect to each other or that will cause some issues?

    Hi Sami

    has the answer
EMC does not support Passive Twinaxial cables in an iSCSI or FCOE environment.
EMC only supports Active Twinaxial cables in an iSCSI or FCOE environment.
We currently support EMC, Brocade and Cisco cables.
SFP-H10GB-ACU7M and SFP-H10GB-ACU10M are active twinax cables

  • SFP+ Twinax cable compatibility

    Hi Guys,
Does anybody know if the 'SFP+ Twinax' active or passive cables are compatable with the HP ethernet 10gb 2-port 530sfp+ adapters? I'm struggling to find/confirm if they are compatible or not.
    Cheers

    I've purchased a SFP-H10GB-CU3M (non-branded) TwinAx cable and have successfully connected from a HP NC552SFP 10Gb 2-port adapter (HP DL360p Gen8) into a 3750X (WS-C3750X-24T-S) 10GB (C3KX-NM-10G) module.
Once I receive my 4500X-16SFP switch, I hope to connect this into 3 dual port 10Gb vSphere hosts as well as my VNX SAN (10Gb SFP).
Finding anyone from EMC or Cisco that will confirm this solution is possible was impossible...so I hope mine will work!

  • Cisco Twinax Cables Compatibiltiy with EMC VNX/VNXe

    Hi,
I would like to know about Cisco Twinax Cables Compatibiltiy with EMC VNX/VNXe series storage - for connectivity between UCS Fabric Interconnect and EMC VNX/VNXe.
Are the following Cisco Twinax Cables compatible with EMC's VNX and VNXe serie platforms:
    SFP-H10GB-CU1M= 1-m 10G SFP+ Twinax cable assembly, passive
    SFP-H10GB-CU3M= 3-m 10G SFP+ Twinax cable assembly, passive
    SFP-H10GB-CU5M= 5-m 10G SFP+ Twinax cable assembly, passive
    SFP-H10GB-ACU7M= 7-m 10G SFP+ Twinax cable assembly, active
    SFP-H10GB-ACU10M= 10-m 10G SFP+ Twinax cable assembly, active
    Kindly advice. Thanks.

    Hi,
I'd like to confirm you, that passive assembly is supported. Haven't tried the actives one yet.
    I'm using UCS-B200 M3, and EMC VNX 5300.
the EMC VNX5300 (Block Level) connected using 2 type of media. Copper (SFP-H10GB-CU5M= 5-m 10G SFP+ Twinax cable assembly, passive) and Fiber Channel 8 GB directly info Fabric Interconnect 6248 ports.
For old server the connection is via iSCSI 10GB Copper. and for UCS-B200 M3 is via FC 8GB.
All my configuration is running well.
    Hope thats helped.

  • Different between Passive and Active SFP+ cable

    Hey,
We'd like to know what is the different between Cisco SFP+ copper passive twinax cable and active cable?
We test some Siemon passive SFP+ 7m and 10m copper cables and these cables passed our lab test ( link between nexus 5548 and FEX link).
Is that means we can using Siemon to take over Cisco because of same function and lower cost?
    Thanks.

    Greetings,
The following page explains in detail the difference between passive and active copper assemblies - http://www.scientificcomputing.com/High-speed-Copper-Interconnects-Address-Critical-HPCHurdles.aspx.
You can use any Cisco Twinax cables between a Nexus 5548 switch and Fabric Extender (note that Nexus 7000 switches do not support all Twinax cables). The 7 and 10m cables use an active design while the shorter cables are passive.
Non-Cisco transceivers are not compatability validated and may not be supported by TAC if you encounter any issues (Warranty Guideline http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/prod_warranty09186a00800b5594.html). We recommend always using official Cisco components.
    Hope this helps,
    /Phil

  • Malicious or not? Message popped up: Mozilla security found (something like too much, forget exact word) activity on your computer so it will do a fast scan of system file. With OK button.

I was looking at youtube.com, which always tells me my browser is not supported and recommends I download Firefox, but that is what I was using, so I went to Firefox to check for updates. (I think I also had freecycle.org open.) Then this message popped up in a new page: Mozilla security found (something like "too much", forget exact word) activity on your computer so it will do a fast scan of system file. There was an OK button. The page address was: http://update17.stegner.ce.ms/index.php?Q7Lhl9ShbRxGJXpkM1VLSi4ZE8H4pTedoVPySgeppM3VpC+thEspcFG7qxHgn1pdsC2h5ygPGWI3t5hXqMzL9EQaZZ3J1e3CKXgCb0Qp. I did not click OK but copied the link and closed the window which closed the internet. I have never seen this before and would like to know if it is really Mozilla or possibly something malicious. Thank you.

Good catch. That almost certainly is an invitation to download malware.

    Hi,

    "MESSAGE_TYPE_X" " "
    "%_T020N1" or "%_T020N1"

I have added some new fields in a DSO. The rule is from DSO to cube. While activating it, I am getting this ABAP dump. There are few other rules from this DSO to other DSO which got activated but this one is causing dump.
Any ideas/suggestions on this would be really helpful.
    Thanks,
    Naveen

    Hi
Check if your Cube , DSO and UR's are active. If not reactivate them. Ideally you could recreate the UR's and check the status by running the extraction.
I would also recommend to use elimination method to check if any particular field is creating an issue. While recreating the UR's , create them for a few fields - active - check extraction - this will also let you know if the issue is within any oif the rules.
    Cheers
