Active window bar, menu bar missing or hidden

Today after opening a PDF, my active window bar (at the top) and the Acrobat menu bar wouldn't display. It's Acrobat 9.5.5. Instead of giving me the normal active window bar and menu bar, it would give a gray Acrobat buttons menu. Each time I get it back to normal via F9, it doesn't stay that way. It's extremely frustrating. I cannot find any preference setting to fix this back to normal for good. Please help. Thanks.

Hi Jack,
Do you have Kaspersky Antivirus software installed?
Please update Kaspersky (KIS 2015) to its latest version 15.0.1.415 and that should fix the issue.

  • Windows and Menu Bars

    Hi everybody,
I'm not having a code problem as of yet, I'm just not sure how to do something, so I would appreciate it if someone could give me a push in the right direction. I'll try to explain my problem as clearly as I can.
I have a JFrame with a JMenuBar on the top. When I click on an option in one of the JMenus in the menu bar, a JDialog comes up. Depending on the dialog, the menu bar at the top of the main frame gains or loses menus. I can make one dialog work correctly, but I'm not sure how robust the solution is.
My problem comes when there are multiple dialogs open. If there are multiple dialogs open, and I close one, I want the most recently selected dialog (of those that are still open) to be selected, and that dialog's menus placed on the menu bar.
I already have a method for opening dialogs, putting up the right menus, and removing the menus I don't want. All I need is how to select the appropriate dialog (or the main frame, if the last dialog is closed). I think it might have something to do with component listeners, but I'm not sure and I'm confused. Can anyone help me out?
    Thanks,
    Jezzica85

    Thanks baskaraninfo,
I'm not quite sure what you mean about using the HashMap. Do you mean I should put a copy of each dialog in the HashMap as I create them, then get the most recent one? It sounds like it could be a good idea; I just don't quite understand your logic.
    Thanks,
Jezzica85I think you're losing sight of the fact that variables don't hold objects, they hold references.
baskaraninfo's suggestion to use an ArrayList looks good. You would add each dialog to the ArrayList at index 0 when opened. When activated you would remove it from the list and again add it at index 0. When closed you would remove it from the list and activate the dialog now at index 0 (which was at index 1 before the removal), or the frame if the list is empty (size = 0). May need some wrapping in SwingUtililties.invokeLater if there's any concurrency problem.

  • Acrobat Reader window in Windows 7:  Menu bar disappears, window cannot be moved or resized.

The problem appeared when Acrobat Reader XI was installed; uninstalling it, and re-installing Acrobat Reader X, didn't solve the problem:  Once a document is loaded into the reader, the Windows' menu bar is overwritten by the Reader toolbar; the window then cannot be moved, resized, or closed, and menu items such as "File" and "Edit" are unavailable.  This happens only with Acrobat Reader, and only when there is a document being viewed.  I suspect something in the Reader XI installation process clobbered a Registry entry, and it has remained clobbered

  • I can no longer get my address bar, back or foward buttons, tool bar, menu bar or anything else. How can I restore?

When I open Firefox I do not get an address bar only Google comes up. I don't get a back or forward button nor do I get the tool bar or menu bar. There is no default button. I read the forum but I can not make any corrections because I don't have a tool bar displayed. I am using 3.6. When I turn off my computer and then turn it back on, the default settings still do not return.

It is a long while since I tried Google Toolbar, I am not sure what it changes. But I would not expect it to totally remove your options to use the ordinary toolbars.
    ■ Try
    * press the''' alt '''key on the keyboard, that may return the menu bar
    * once you have the menubar '''View -> Toolbars ->''' and select which you need
    * you may also use View-> Toolbars -> Customise and drag items back or use the restore default set option.
    * right clicking on the toolbars also gets you to the customise and show toolbars options
    ■ have a look at [[Back and forward or other toolbar items are missing]]
    PS
I hope you do not need to resort to editing registry settings, the firefox 'dragons' in prefs are user friendly compared with Windows registry. Messing up firefox prefs only really affects firefox normally; whereas errors in a registry edit may prevent you from even booting the computer.

  • [KDE][Suggestion] Kwin title bar&menu bar/tab bar merge

    Hi.
I do not know if topic has been up for discussion, but I wonder if more people shares my view on this.
Kwin has seen a lot of development since KDE4 was initially released, with the latest support of behaving tiling. However there is a function I would love to see implemented in Kwin, and any other WM for that matter, and that is merging the title bar and menu bar.
When I do not move windows around with hotkeys I do so with alt + left click. Which basicly means that the title bar is next to obsolete, as it per now contains (in my case) three small buttons, one icon and a few words. Handy when you need it, but to be fair, rarely used. Chrome solved this problem by placing tabs upon the title bar, along with the max/min/close buttons. That way you preserve the border as well as making it useful, for let's face it, most KDE applications has tabs. In fact, more and more applicaitons all over the board get tab support, so there definetly could be a market here.
Another option is to put the space to use by placing the menu bar there. Take a look at Konsole, for instance, which has TWO bars, and in total uses less than 50% of the space of one.
    What do you think?

You can sort of get this feature if you use "Automatically group similar windows" in the "Window behavior" menu. When you open a new windows its is placed as a tab in the title bar.
As I understand it, works is going on to give this feature a dbus interface so it can integrate better with the applications intern tabs.

  • Finder Bar/Menu Bar color

So the other day, I was in Best buy and an Apple Store near me and I saw an new iMac with the Menu bar color changed to black and the font changed to a orange or gold color. Anyone know how to do this? Not necessarily those colors but something other than white. It looked really sweet.

I think your talking about OS X's Universal Access Preference Pane in System Preferences.
    System Preferences>Universal Access>Seeing>Display>White on Black.
    Enjoy.

  • No task bar/menu bar or icons appear when I login into my main account, however this is not a problem with my guest accout

So was trying to use install disk ! to solve the problem but did not want to reinstall the system because I have not backed up many of my photographs.  Then the disk got stuck and would not come out so when I shut down and restarted I could not get past the gray screen.  Well I was able to solve the problem and remove the disk, and finally it would load to the login screen, although it took some time to get there.  Then when I log in to my main account the desktop will load but the task bar and icons will not its completely blank except for the wall paper.  When I login into my guest account there is not a problem everything is there and functional. I've been researching but have had no luck on a solution.  Thank you for your help.

    Hello,
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive & clear caches.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.

  • The bottom part of my firefox is being covered by my default Windows menu bar.

When it shows (i.e Done above the windows default menu bar) its being covered by the windows default menu bar.

Is the Firefox window too large or off to the bottom of the screen? Try resizing or repositioning the Firefox window. See [[Toolbar keeps resetting]] to restore the default window size/position and toolbar settings if you can't change the Firefox window or position, or if the changes to your Firefox window aren't saved when you next start Firefox.

  • I'm using Ubuntu 11.04 The firefox menu-bar is on the top of the screen - how can I get it into the firefox window?

Maybe I'm an idiot - this does seem a very simple issue. I can right click on the tab bar and check things like Navigation Bar, or Add-on bar and they all work fine - but the menu bar is stuck on the top of the screen and appears when I role over it. However, sometimes when firefox is automatically opened by some other application (LibreOffice) it comes up in a window with menu-bar onboard. I'm sorry if this is so obvious to everybody else - but it is irritating to me

    Try hitting '''F11'''.

  • Sticky Menu Bar

I've noticed the past few weeks that my menu bar doesn't change when I switch applications by clicking on a window.  The window becomes active, but the menu bar stays on the old application, and becomes unresponsive.  It seems extremely sporadic, but it seems to happen when switching from certain applications to the Finder.  I can work around it by clicking on an application's dock icon, or by command-tab to switch back and forth.
Not such a critical bug but annoying nonetheless when I'm working quick and heavy.
I've submitted a bug report but I'm throwing this out there in case anyone knows what is causing the strange behavior.

  • I tried to establish the Menu Bar in Firefox 4, but the process did not work. I had to reinstall Firefox 3. Why?

I installed Firefox 4 on my Vista based PC, and there was not Menu Bar nor was there a Status Bar. I followed the instructions in the help article, but I couldn't get either tool bar to appear. The main problem was I did not get the temporary Menu Bar when I pressed the Alt key and released it. Since I use the Menu Bar all the time, I ended up reinstalling Firefox 3. From what I saw of Firefox 4 it seems to be a good upgrade, but I need my tool bars. Is there some other way to get the Menu bar without using the Alt key?

The Firefox Button in the upper left has replaced the Menu Bar but you can, optionally use the Menu Bar; instructions below
The Status Bar has been replaced by the Add-on Bar in Firefox 4, by can get some of the functionality by installing an Add-on; see below.
    <br />
    <br />
You can turn the Menu Bar on/Firefox Button off in Firefox 4. You have the Menu Bar on.
To '''''toggle''''' the Menu Bar on/off (Firefox Button off/on), do one of the following to check/un-check (on/off) Menu Bar:
*HOLD the ALT key while pressing the letters VTM on your keyboard
*Using the Menu Bar: click View > Toolbars, click Menu Bar
*Using the Firefox Button: click Firefox Button > Options, click Menu Bar
    <br />
    <br />
'''<u>The Status Bar has been eliminated and replaced by the Add-on Bar</u>'''. You can restore some of the prior Status Bar functionality on the new Add-on Bar by
    *installing the Status-4-Evar extension: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/status-4-evar/
*Be sure the Add-on bar is diplayed at the bottom of the Firefox 4 window
**Ctrl+/ toggles the Add-on Bar displayed or not displayed
**Firefox button > Options '''''OR''''', if you are optionally using the Menu Bar instead of the Firefox button, View > Toolbars '''''OR''''' right-click in a blank space on a toolbar::
***if no check mark next to Add-on Bar, click Add-on bar to place a check mark.
***If Add-on bar has a check mark, it is already displayed
*then drag 3 widgets to the Add-on Bar from the Customize Toolbar window (the 3 widgets are: Status Text, Progress Meter, Download Status). To open the Customize Toolbar window
**Using Menu Bar: click View > Toolbars > Customize
**Using Firefox button: click Firefox button, click small arrow to the right of Options, click Toolbar Layout
**Note: Instead of either of the above, you can do as in the past, right-click an empty space in the Navigation toolbar and choose Customize
    *set options for Status-4-Evar:
**Menu Bar: Tools > Add-ons, click on Status4Ever, click Options, set options to your liking
**Firefox button: click Firefox button, click Add-ons, scroll down to Status-4-Evar, click Options, set options to your liking

  • Speach no longer activates menu bar items or application specific items

I have been using the speach capabilities of the IMAC 20" intel system. I was able to have the computer open items on the menu bar but this has stopped working. In the preferences for speach I have checked all the speakable items catagories but
Application Specific items, Applications switching, Front Window, and Menu bar do not have a configure button usage available. What would cause this and how can I get this capablity back?

I have just noticed this same issue, and would appreciate a fix, should anyone have one.
It was very convenient to have the menu bar and application commands.

    Edited by: maddyd2k on Mar 31, 2011 3:46 AMHi
first, yes this utility is very useful but it is not mine ;) all credits goes to Peter de Vaal the author !
for your requirements, take a look at Peter's documentation on how to set up the utility for developer suite (the webserver is the oc4j standalone)
you must define a virtual path to your FormStart folder and html files :
Step 2. Define a virtual path
The FormsStart directory must be made accesible through the http protocol. The way to do this is to define a virtual path for your web server.
For Oracle Developer Suite the webserver is the stand-alone oc4j. You define a virtual path in file orion-web.xml. This file can be found in:
    <DS_home>\j2ee\DevSuite\application-deployments\default\defaultWebApp
Add the following line before the </orion-web-app> tag:
         <virtual-directory
                virtual-path="/forms/fs"
                real-path="C:\oracle/FormsStart/html" />
For Oracle Application Server the webserver is Apache. You can specify virtual paths in httpd.conf or in one of its include files (oracle_apache.conf, forms.conf). We suggest to specify it in forms.conf (in <AS_home>\forms\server, For 9i and 9.0.4 it is: forms90\server\forms90.conf).
Use Enterprise Manager Website to edit this file (Click on HTTP Server, then on Advanced server Properties, then on forms.conf or forms90.conf).
Add the following line, below the list of other AliasMatch tags:
    Windows:
    # Virtual path for FormsStart Utility
    AliasMatch ^/forms/fs/(..*) "C:\oracle\FormsStart/html/$1"
    Unix:
    # Virtual path for FormsStart Utility
    AliasMatch ^/forms/fs/(..*) "/app/oracle/FormsStart/html/$1"JeanYves
