Active X and Mac

My primary software application at the office is a web based product designed for IE. it requires Active X and is critical to my work functions. I own an iPad and would really prefer to use my airbook as my notepad in the office instead of a windows notebook. Any way around this using an airbook? I hope so!

ActiveX is for windows. If you must use it then you will have to use BootCamp or a virtualizer like Parallels or VMWare to run windows on your mac.

It's because the PowerMac G5 had HUGE bandwidth with a fat BUS on each processsor so they could run hard, hot and heavy.
It's not so with the Intel processors which are multi-core and share a common bus thus bottleneck.
The newer Intel processors can do more work on the CPU, but when it comes to in/out they are s-l-o-w.
I've had a wickedly fast dual processor (not dual core) G5, RAID 0 pair of 10,000 RPM drives as boot and a fast video card, I could do a lot very very fast.
You'll likely have to upgrade to Final Cut X to get more cores utilized, prepare to cry a little bit, Apple is working on the features they stripped out of it to make amends to pro users who complained loudly. (all over TV too)

Particularly:
I don't see photos in Photo Stream on my iOS device.
Check the following:
From your Home screen, tap Settings > iCloud > Photo Stream, and make sure the slider is set to the ON position.
From the Home screen, tap Settings > Wi-Fi, make sure the slider is set to ON, and that your device is connected to a wireless network.
Ensure that Camera app is closed on the device where you took the photo. Photo Stream will not upload photos from an iOS device until the Camera app is closed.
Ensure your iOS device has not fallen below 20% battery power. To preserve battery life, Photo Stream downloading and uploading are disabled when the battery reaches this threshold. Downloading and uploading will resume once you charge your device, and the battery charge is greater than 20%.

You have quite muddied up the waters, I'm afraid. Assuming you now have a single GUID partition formatted Mac OS Extended, Journaled, you should try reinstalling Lion:
Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

Address Book Sync running slow parallels and mac (iCloud)

Briefly, every time that "address book sync" becomes active on the Mac side, the computer on both the Mac and the Windows side becomes incredibly slow, almost usable. If I disable the "address book sync" through the activity monitor (force quit), the computer on both the Mac and Windows side restores to normal speed. I have 4 CPU's on this MAc book pro and i have configured parallels to 2 for the Mac side and 2 for the Windows side. I have also allocated 2GB of memory to the Windows 7 side which is within the recommended range of 512MB to 4GB (Maximum memory is 16BG).
I have also noticed in "activity monitor" that the process name "prl_vm_app" can run as high as 200% of cpu usage and vary anywhere from its current level whilst writing this email of 5% upwards. This does not however seem to affect the speed of the computer and again this is being caused by "address book sync". For information I am running Outlook on the windows side and using "contacts" and this is also being replicated on the mac side in "contacts". Whenever I update or enter a new contact in the windows side (Contacts in outlook) then address book sync starts shortly after on the Mac side and the computer slows considerably.
I have iCloud working on the mac side and windows side syncing my contacts calendar etc.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

I have the same problem too. My iphone is not syncing with my addressbook on the mac, no matter what I try, it is very very frustrating!!

Mail setup and .mac authentication

Baffled… I have been trying to setup my Mail account. I have an active .Mac account which I can access via the internet, so I know it works. I am trying to use Mail as my automatic mail for sending Aperture photos and iWeb announcements.
In going through the setup procedures in Mail I enter all the required information and the application tries to authenticate my .Mac account… it spins and spins… then an error message is received indicating “failure to connect to .Mac”. I have verified my settings with a friend who uses the same ISP, Mail and .Mac and all our settings are the same.
Is this a keychain issue, do I need to reset permissions?
Why can I access my .Mac account through Safari yet the computer can’t do it automatically?

And no, I did not talk about pinging the server
(which just sends ICMP echo requests), but about
trying to connect to the server using telnet. That's

I only get mail via the web ~ Safari ~ Yahoo... .mac mail can be received and used onlt as a web application, Mial does not connect via .mac.
The problem is .Mac authentifcation when setting up a new Mail account, error message says can not verify/connect to .Mac server, yet I can access .Mac via the internet.
IMAP ~ in my system preferences for Accounts/Advanced I do not sync to any IMAP mailbox and the greyed out port is 143 nad SSL is not checked.
Terminal ~ yes it logged in, sorry if I used the wrong term "ping"... so yes it did connect.

10.6 home directory mounting with active directory and open directory integration

Hi guys i am having some issues in my new mac environment. I have a windows network with an server 2008 active directory. I have just recentlly created a "magic triangle" setup with active directory and open directory. When my users login via windows their home folders mount perfect. When any user logs in to any iMac in the building it does not work. They login perfectly fine, but their home folders do not mount. When i try mounting them manually with smb, i get a prompt for credentials. I am thinking this is my issue, my Single sign on with kerbos is working but for some reason is not logging in correctly. If i type in my credentials with my domain first then my name it works.
For example DOMAIN\jsmith works, but the way i think the mac and active directory is doing it now is just jsmith without the DOMAIN.
I feel like this is the problem with the home folders not mounting.
Can anyone provide some help with this?

are you using the fully qualified domain name of the network server? ie if your server is bob. and your domain is domain.company.com. then the FQDNS would typically be bob.domain.company.com or bob.company.com.
If the FQDNS works, then have you checked in the AD to make sure the path to the network home folder uses the FQDNS?
For the contact search path, did you put the AD at the top the list? (in directory utility)
Did you set the WINS work group on your client computer to your domain?
ie:Apple Menu, System Preferences, Network, Active Network Port (ethernet and or airport) , Advanced Button, WINS Tab, set workgroup to the name of your domain. ie domain.company.com and or company.com

2-way Trust Relationship between Windows and Mac Domain

Hi guys I hope someone can help me.
Just a quick explanation of what I am trying to do.
I have an Xserve running OSX 10.5.8 server, which is the OD Master. On that server I’m running Kerio mail server. I have a Microsoft 2003 server running AD.
The problem is I need to run BlackBerry Enterprise on the Windows server as the BlackBerry need active directory to work.
Since I have both system already running, I do not want to destroy my open directory just to get the BlackBerry working.
So what I have tried to do is create a 2-way Trust Relationship between the 2 domains, so the BlackBerry server will talk to the Kerio mail server.
The trust relationship appears to create fine from the Windows server side, but I’m not able to retrieve LDAP information from the open directory server.
The creation from the OSX server starts fine automated but then I had to finish it manually.
Has anyone else here created a 2-way trust relationship between Windows and Mac’s before? Any help on how you did it would be appreciated. Thanks

Have you checked on when the computer last checked in and changed the computer account password with the domain? When a computer changes it's password, Active Directory will store only the current password and it does not expire. The workstation
will store both the current password and the previous password. This for cases when you may restore Active Directory to a point before the computer password change.
To handle this, the workstation will try it's current password, then it's previous.
If you're restoring the workstation to a previous point in time, you may be rolling the stored passwords back too far for Active Directory to accept. I would only imagine this to be the case a handful of times if you're going back 1-2 days.

You can activate the software on a maximum of two computers at the same time.
Your serial number works on both Windows and Mac.
Your choice on how you mix and match the activations: Win/Win or Mac/Mac or Win/Mac.

Why is cupsd 192.168.1.255 so active on my mac? Using Little Snitch network monitor I see it listed a few times per minute or so - from what I have read (Googled the IP after I first noticed it)... it's apparently connected to a print search of some sort - Is this a private IP address? and again, why could or should it be activating so often? Why do I receive some text messages ONLY on my mac and NOT on both my phone AND mac?

I have my iPhone linked to my messages app on my macbook pro. Often times incoming messages are only sent to my mac and NOT my phone. When I turn on my mac I see that I have missed several text messages. This didn't happen before I upgraded to the latest software for my phone.

I have a Mac pro, Macbook Pro and iphone. All have problems with the internet connection especially after any short period of in activity. My mac Pro is connected directly with an ethernet cable and the mac pro wireless. I have to go through system preferences network setup all the time to reconect. Soemtimes whn on email choosing take all accounts online does cause a reconnect but only after a minute or so wait.

Done that.. many times... also did a lot of suggestions from other posts.. removing pls files etc.. nothing works and it seems to be something experienced by other.. mysstery is it happens on all 5 computers in the office.. my isp has no suggestions... the pro can loose connection and the macbook wifi is OK and the phone usually works OK but leave my Macpro for 5 minutes and `I need to reconnct using system preferneces...
