ActiveMovie Window message???

I hope someone can help with this. I've been working on it for 3 days and I'm at my wits end. I've searched the problem on the forum, the Adobe site as well as generally online using 3 search engines.
I have a large DL9 project that has been humming along beautifully for 6 months. After burning it to DVD for presentation in June, I've just been making minor changes and tweaks to some of the menus, and have been replacing audio tracks in some of the timelines as they've been provided to me by my partner after final mix. Essentially the project was finished except for replacing the audio files with the new mixed files.
So Friday morning I imported a few .wav files, deleted the old .wav files from the timelines, deleted them from my project and placed the new .wav files where they belonged. A procedure I had done before. So then I started getting a message that said "Sorry an internal engine error has been detected. Please save your project with another name and restart." Then it locked up and wouldn't let me save.
I searched that problem and found a very helpful thread here on this forum about how encodes made with Procoder produce this message. A couple of weeks ago I installed a Canopus program that allows a computer that does not have Canopus/Procoder to play Canopus files. I needed it to open some Premiere projects that had been created using Canopus. So I deleted the Canopus program but it didn't help. Then I discovered I only got this message when I played a specific timeline (actually the timeline would play fine with just the .wav, it was the .mpg that it wouldn't play). I deleted the timeline and the "internal engine error" message has not reoccured, however, the project is 4.5 hours long so I haven't played everything all the way through.
So now when I open the project I get a box that says "ActiveMovie Window: Adobe Encore DVD.exe - Unable to Locate Component." Then it says "This application has failed to start because AdavAudioDec.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem." When I close that box, two more pop up, and after I close them the project loads. It works but behaves oddly.
Subsequently I repaired Encore, no help. So I uninstalled it and reinstalled it. No change. I created a new Encore project using some of the elements from the project and it plays fine. (Note that the problem project is on an external HD, but the new project I created is on my C drive.)
So then I restored a backup of the project from 2 months ago and it has the same problem. So this made me think the problem was in the folder with all of the encodes, since the project is using those files. So I renamed that folder so Encore couldn't find it and loaded the project but got the same message. So it appears it is loading something that needs this driver, but I cannot figure out what it is, or locate the driver.
I am really lost and confused now and have no idea what to do next. My system is a P4, Windows XP Home. One other thing that's new: I purchased a DLT 4000 and a PCMCIA SCSI Adapter that I installed a week ago, tested and put aside for use later in the month. It did not require any software installation.
Julie

Jeff, your explanation makes sense and it helps to understand what is likely going on. I reinstalled the decoder first and searched for the .dll and didn't find it. So I reinstalled the program that allows my system to play Canopus files and searched again and still didn't find it. However, my Encore project opened without the messages popping up. So I uninstalled just the second "play only" program and boxes popped up again. I still think you're right about the decoder thought and here's why.
I installed the decoder (converter) in December, not long before I started building this project. During the build of the project, I used 3 different .avi files as motion menus that were created on my partner's system that uses Premiere and Canopus. I cannot remember if I used the converter on those files to change them to Microsoft .avi's before incorporating them in the project, but regardless it seems apparent that the decoder program is needed on my system for Encore to be happy with those files. When those pesky ActiveMovie windows pop up, I get exactly 3 of them every time.
As a test, I think I will try using the converter to change those 3 files to Microsoft .avi's, uninstall the converter, and see if I still get the messages. If I do, then I'll assume what you explained about the codecs and just keep the converter on my system.
My worry though is all this started with an "internal engine" error from Encore that would occur at a specific frame in one of the timelines. I'm concerned that the Canopus stuff is conflicting with Encore and corrupting the project. I was not having any problems with that timeline before and had successfully burned the project for presentation in June. So something happened to that file since then. Hopefully I'm wrong and it was just an isolated case of a file getting corrupted for some other reason.
Before I do anything else though I'll try your suggestion with changing the Video Playback checkbox. Thanks Jeff. You've been the calm in the storm and a big help!

After repeated attempts dealing with low memory messages and in some cases total system crashes, my most recent effort involved recreating my project instead using Windows Movie Maker to save each video as "DV-AVI (NTSC)"   After adding photos, videos, and text, I had commenced adding audio (.wma), when the system crashed and now I can't open my project as the file is damaged.  The total failure occured as I was trying to slide a .wma file along the Audio 2 bar.  Appears as though days of work gone!  In fact, I have been playing around with this for almost two months now.  Good thing I have patience.

    Other things:
Installing PreE9 in the first place was a challenge.  I started with the Photoshop Elements, and then PreE9 trial version and when I upgraded I ended up unistalling the trial and buying new instead of doing the upgrade fix.  I created my project as a slideshow viewable using windows media player.  The quality wasn't all that great so then I downloaded the trial version of PreE9.  The quality was great so for the last month or so I have been trying to recreate my project.
My originally referenced error message occurs whenever I try to open "organizer" so at this point it appears as though I can no longer get into organizer even though I can still open and create a project.
When I ran into space issues, I purchased the external driver initally for my son's stuff (games, Minecraft, Steam and whatever else), then I started moving other files in an effort to create space on C:\ and D:\   I may have moved stuff around trying to create space only to confuse everything.  Confusing to know what files to delete to get rid of some of my aborted projects.  Pushing 50 GB of Pre9 files at this point in three places basically all for one project.  Some cleanup needed here.
Thank you for your interest in my situation.

  • Safari of my Macbook (on WiFi) suddenly fails to connect to the Internet.  A popup window message says another device on the network is using my computer's IP address.

But then there was still no Internet access even after I have disconnected all other home computers (a total of four including the Macbook and one iMac desktop.  For simplicity, I shall categorically called them Mac hereafter unless otherwise specified.  The Macs are operating on WiFi.).
The window message recommends changing the IP of either the Macs or the other device.  The latter of course does not apply because I don't think the other device is one of my computers.
    My questions:
    (1) Why did that happen suddenly since the Mac and other computers on the WiFi was working fine in the morning (as well as days before) and then all of a sudden an unknown device is using my computer's IP?  As far as I (we) can remember, we did not do any thing unusual this morning nor had we downloaded any special programs.
    (2) How do I change the IP since it requires Internet acess to do it and since I can't access the Internet on the Mac?
    (3) I am almost sure the problem is not caused by the Internet service because when I connected the Ethernet cable from the DSL modem to an old Windows PC, I got Internet via Internet Explorer.  [I am actually sending out this message via IE on my PC.]  However, when I cennected the Ethernet line from the modem to a WiFi router (Airport Extreme) and then connect the router and the old PC, I did not get Internet on either the Mac nor the PC.  Similarly, there was no Internet on both Mac and PC If I connect Ethernet only between the modem and the router but not between PC and router.  So, the question is whether a third unknown party has gotten hold of my Mac IP address and is trying to break into the Mac?  Can it steal my personal info?
    (4)  How can I repair the Mac now and prevent future recurrences?  Is changing the IP address the way to do it?  (But like I said before I had tried but could not change the IP because I did not have Internet access on the Mac.  Is there an alternative method?)
    (5) I wonder if a computer's IP address remains constant if you don't change it.  The reason I am asking this question is because the aforesaid window message on the Macbook--not sure about the iMac--shows a different IP address--a few numerical digits were changed--almost every time it pops up following every failure trial of mine to access the Internet.  Was the Macbook trying to change the IP for me or was there some thing not right?

Re: Another device on the network is using your computer's IP address.
This message/problem was occuring intermittently for me in a household with two MacBooks accessing one Airport extreme.  Rebooting the modem and router would only temporarily fix the issue for me, so I spoke with a friend who works for Apple and it seems that the Airport Extreme settings were at the root of our particular issue.
The router(Airport Extreme) recieves only one IP address from the modem and in order to allow it to share the IP address with two computers at once, the solution in my case was through:
    Applications>Utilities>Airport Utility>Manual Setup>Internet
under Internet Connection- Select "share a public IP address"
under NAT, check the box for "enable NAT Port Mapping Protocol"
(this will allow the sharing of one public IP address with multiple devices)
if this is a new setting, then click "Update" and the Airport Extreme should reboot itself with new settings applied.
When all else is working properly, this is a satisfactory solution in my case.

  • Windows message that reads APE's has stopped working

I have a new Sony Vaio and Premiere Elements 4 was preinstalled when I bought it. I'm now trying to create a movie and I've never used PE before, I can add various clips into the sceneline as well as titles, but when I go to preview my video in the preview screen it plays about 10 secs of a clip before just closing the whole program down and coming up with a Windows message that reads
"Adobe Premiere Elements.exe has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."
I haven't had a solution! Please help, its really frustrating, I just want to get started with my movie and I can't.
    Thanks
    Gemma

You don't say what operating system you're using, what your system specs are or, most importantly of all, what type of camcorder your video came frame, but all of these things can affect the program's performance.
Another large factor is outdated firmware and, especially, outdated Quicktime.
Because there are so many possibilities, I'd recommend you contact Adobe Tech Support and do some troubleshooting with them.

  • Handling windows messages within an event structure

    Hello all.
I've got an event driven VI which makes use of an event structure. I'd like my VI to be able to respond to some custom windows messages (i.e. WM_USER) sent from a separate process that listens on a telemetry card (sends a message when it receives data).
I have tried modifying the Windows Messaging Queue VI example provided by NI so that the VI will process windows messages during the timeout event in the event structure but this doesn't seem to work.
    Any suggestions?
If labview events and windows messages don't mix then I guess I could do away with the event structure and go entirely with windows messages. This could be done by defining some custom messages that replace the labview events (e.g., W
M_STOPBUTTON_PRESSED = stop button, value changed event) and have the VI post these messages using PostMessage from User32.DLL and then catch these messages in the same manner as the NI Windows Messaging Queue VI.
My preference is to make use of the event structure if I can because its more inline with the labview methodology.
This is really interprocess communication question so if there are other ways of achieving the same result (sockets, named pipes, shared memory?) I'm keen to listen.
    cheers,
    Novak.

These 'sockets' sound interesting. What exactly are they? Could you direct
    me to an example?
    Thanks

  • Itunes gives needs to close Windows message when trying to Burn DVD or Sync

    I have a 60G Video Ipod
I right click on the my playlist and select Burn Playlist to Disc. It then asks if I want to do a data DVD, I click yes and then it starts checking Playlist. When the bar almost reaches the end the windows message pops up and Itunes closes.
The same error box pops up when I connect my Ipod and it starts to update the Ipod.
I can play music with Itunes without any issues until I either want to burn a dvd or connect the Ipod.
I have reisntalled Itunes from the original CD after removing Itunes, Ipod updater and quicktime from Add/remove programs. I have upgraded a few times and the issue still persists. The issue initially started when in version 6.0.2 which was a known issue and the fix was to go to version 6.0.3.
Is there other lcoations that have files, that add/remove doesn't remove? I cannot see how unistalling and reinstaling from the CD would not correct the issue.
I have windows XP Media Edition and do not have dual core processors but do have hyperthreading.

    Hey there Nezzinton,
It sounds like your iTunes application is quitting when you try to use it, or it quits when you try to sync your device to it. If the former, use this article:

See HT203206: iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8: Fix unexpected quits or launch issues.
For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

I have a new Toshiba C855D Satellite laptop that came with Windows 8.
On about three ocassions now, when I turn on the computer to boot up, it takes a lot longer than usual... then eventually it shows the message "Preparing Windows." After that happens I get on and see my front page/start screen almost empty like it's in a default state with just Toshiba icon and some other few things.

I think the last thing I did prior to this last incident happening was using Windows Update, then shutting down after it was updated/installed. Could this be related?
What is causing these two issues (long boot time with Preparing Windows message, then the having to sign out and sign back in to access my regular start screen/desktop,etc?
    Thanks for the help.

So this is an out of the ordinary problem and not some Windows update/Win 8 issue?
We don't know. But a new machine should just work. I returned a Windows 8 machine to Best Buy recently for problems very much like you described.
You don't need another drive. Restore the machine this way.

  • How do I get callback or windows messaging Events working on a 6534 card do pattern output?

    Hi,
I am working on a fast track project and I am trying unsuccesfully to get my buffered output to work. I have 827 different size buffers of data that I need to output to a digital output. I need to wait until each buffer is output, then call some other functions before outputing the next buffer.
Although I only want to set one bit on and off I have i16 buffers that contains my data. I have based my program on the 6523SingleBufferedOutput NI-DAQ example. However I do not want to poll the number of buffer elements remaining, I want to use the NI-DAQ event message to tell my code when the DIG_Block_Out function is complete. This appears to be message type 2. I am basing the ev
ent code from another example in the Function Reference Manual. I have tried both a callback and an window message, but neither function is ever called. I am not sure if the problem is to do with the event configuration or the DO not completing. It does look like only part of my data is being output, however I tried with message type to send a message after n scans and it did not call my functions either.
I can send code to anyone who is willing to help. Help would be really be appreciated as I am behind now on my project,

  • Why Doesn't LabVIEW Intercept the WM_SYSCOMMAND Windows Message?

I am using the Windows Messaging vi's to try to defeat the screen saver from automatically starting (our IT people have locked us out of controlling our own screen saver). I have read that if I can dequeue the SC_SCREENSAVE message from the WM_SYSCOMMAND message I can prevent the screen saver from starting. The problem is that these vi's don't seem to be able to read WM_SYSCOMMAND messages. It works great for mouse movements but nothing more. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well I had some time this afternoon and little else to do so I coded up a quick application for you to use
I tried it too just out of curiosity and it also didn’t stop the screen saver.
We have no restrictions on our PCs, full admin privileges. This is on XP Pro SP2.

Using the Abort button to stop your VI is like using a tree to stop your car. It works, but there may be consequences.
