ActiveSync Outlook to iPhone contacts field mappings

With the iPhone 2.0 release, is the mapping of the contact fields between Outlook and iPhone when using over-the-air ActiveSync published anywhere?
It feels to me that the mappings are different for over-the-air ActiveSync versus in the old way of syncing via iTunes.
For example, I can not find any "Other Phone" field any longer on the iPhone. The iPhone 1.x releases had this field.

Here is what we have found through testing. The following lists the names displayed in Outlook 2007 and the corresponding name on the iPhone running 2.0.1. We did not find that any fields from Outoll overwrote any other field on the iPhone, even though the field might have a duplicate name, like "work" and "home". In the case of the Home and Home 2 numbers in Outlook, we ended up with two (2) "home" entries on the iPhone. If there is only a "-" under iPhone it is because it did not sync:

  • Sync Salesforce to Outlook, Sync Outlook to iPhone 5 Contacts

I am trying to sync the contacts in Salesforce with my iphone 5 contacts, so that when I’m on my iphone 5, I can see all updated contact information on the iphone. This boils down to two major steps: 1. Sync Salesforce with Outlook and 2. Sync Outlook with my iphone 5 contacts. I have already completed step 1. Now I need to sync Outlook with my iphone. I plan to do this via iCloud and wanted to see if this has worked well for people?
Also, when I do this – is this going to be a two-way sync (Outlook to iphone AND iphone to Outlook) OR can I configure it to be one way (Outlook to iphone only)? I only want a one-way sync (Outlook to iphone NOT iphone to Outlook).
Also, when I do this – will I have duplicate listings of people already in my iphone or will it recognize individuals with the same name and replace their information? One of my concerns, is that I already have many of the people stored in my iphone that are also stored in Outlook and do not want multiple listings in my iphone after I complete the sync. Is there a way to avoid this?
The point of all the syncing is to be continuous, so I'm not trying to do one download of contacts but rather set up a configuration that will be an ongoing, one-way, chain reaction (Salesforce update -> Outlook update -> iPhone contact update).
Thank you for any input on the subject!

It's probably because your contacts do not belong to the iCloud account.
Open the contacts app on your phone and tap Groups.  Do you have any non-iCloud accounts listed, such as On My iPhone, Gmail, Yahoo or an exchange account?
Also go to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>Default Account (in the Contacts section).  Do you have the Default Account setting there, and if so, what is selected as your default account?

  • How to Control the Sorting Order of iPhone Contacts from Outlook?

In a series of editing steps we've loaded ca. 1,900 personal and business contacts from Outlook into a 1st gen iPhone with 2.0.1 software on it. To our surprise we found that while most of the entries were listed and sorted by company, certain entries were listed and sorted by the person's name. It looked random and there didn't seem to be any way to control it on the iPhone.
While troubleshooting the problem we synced up the iPhone with an empty Address Book on a MacBook Pro and found that the sort order flag was indeed set differently on these entries. When we changed the sorting flag of a contact in the Mac's Address Book to "Company" it also changed on the iPhone after the next sync.
Problem: In our business environment it is impossible to switch to Macs for contact administration. We need to do it from Outlook. This is one of several features needed for the adoption of iPhones.
Question: Is there a way to control this flag on the individual iPhone contact entries from Outlook Contacts?

Well, I think we figured it out.
Outlook doesn't offer a sorting flag on person or company name. Instead it uses a separate "File As" string. The problem with our contacts was that this "File As" string was frequently edited to be something else than exactly the personal or company name, e.g. it was set to an abbreviated company name. Once we set the "File As" to any of the defaults offered, i.e. person or company name, the sorting flag in iPhone was properly set through the synchronization.
Obviously, the application logic compares the content of these fields in Outlook and decides how to set the flag. If it can't find the company name in "File As" it defaults to person.
This was an expensive holdup for us. It cost us 2 man days to figure it out. Is there any place where such application logic is described?

  • "anniversary" field in my iphone contact with an funny date

My iphone 4 contact sync with outlook 2007 and my outlook sync with google contact. However, I noticed that my iphone shown a field "anniversary" in the iphone contact which I did not enter in either iphone, outlook 2007 or google contact. This happen after the synchronisation with my outlook 2007. The date shown in the 'anniversary' field also quite funny like January 1, 4501
Can any body enlighten me why

If you have the exact same problem, I'm guessing that you sync with Google as well, as the OP stated? If so, it has to be something in Google, since the only place to generate the anniversary in Outlook is in the contact, and if you are not seeing the information in Outlook, it is not coming from there. I don't know anything about Google,so I cannot address it.

  • I need help syncing my contacts between Outlook and iPhone using iTunes. I followed the steps given and ended up with just email addresses showing in my contacts even though I have phone numbers and snail mail in my Outlook Contacts. Using  Windows 7

I need help syncing my contacts between Outlook and iPhone using iTunes. I used the knowldge document and set it up to transfer my Outlook contacts to the iphone using itunes.
In contacts on the iphone I only see the email addresses.
Yet in Outlook I have email, snail mail and phone numbers.
I followed the knowledge document from iphone.
I did it once, didn't work so deleted all the contacts from the phone and tried again. Same result. I have a PC using Windows 7 64 bit.

You can't access an Exchange account via ActiveSync with the Address Book and iCal on your Mac.
You can access a MM account with Outlook on your PC at work and keep your MM email account server stored mailboxes synced between your PC at work, your iPhone, and the MM "cloud". Not sure about syncing MM contact info and calendar events with Outlook at the same time with an Exchange account.
This will not provide for syncing your Exchange account contact info and calendar events with the Addresss Book and iCal on your Mac because the accounts are separate.
You can access an Exchange account and a MM account at the same time with the iPhone's mail client, and sync contact info and calendar events over the air with both accounts at the same time. You can view combined contact info or separately for each account, and the same for calendar events.

  • Outlook to iPhone sync failure – Sync suddenly stopped working for calendar events but continued for contacts and notes.   Finally Fixed!!!  SUPPORT TEAM – PLEASE SEE THIS – Complete explanation of cause and correction steps.

The issue:  Outlook to iPhone sync failure – Sync suddenly stopped working for calendar events but continued for contacts and notes.   Finally Fixed!!!
SUPPORT TEAM – PLEASE SEE THIS – Complete explanation of cause and correction steps.
The cause:  It is now clear what caused this problem.  For years I had several “all-day” events in my Outlook calendar (birthdays, anniversaries, etc.).  In May 2012 I decided to make some of them one hour  events so I could add alerts to remind me of the event.  I did this by dragging them in Outlook to the time I wanted and expanding them to the time slot desired and then adding the alarm.
The symptom:  Syncing stopped working for the calendar but continued working for contacts and notes.  I didn’t realize sync was failing until months later when I missed two very important phone calls, so when I noticed it the cause was not obvious.
The failed attempts:  I’m head of a software firm and my calendar sync is a crucial to my business life so I took this on with a vengeance.  From a quick look at events in Outlook and the iPhone I could see that the problem started in May 2012.  Events before May were in both Outlook and the iPhone but events after May were only one or the other.  Unfortunately I had changed several other things at the same time relating to other events so again the cause was not obvious.  MANY calls with AppleCare proved them incompetent so my internal IT guys assisted trying many things.  We tried a huge number of calendar changes and several versions of iTunes, iPhone OS and Office as well as both iPhone 4 and 5, all without success.
The fix:  After 18 months of frustration, MANY  hundreds of $ expense and MANY hours of wasted time I saw a blog that had a calendar sync  problem and it indicated all day events were related.  I changed the display of the Outlook calendar to the list view, added columns so I could see “all day” event check marks as well as times of events,  sorted on the “all day” event column to move them to the top, and for all events that were “all day” events AND had a start and end time, I removed recurrence and then added the annual recurrence back…
After I fixed all events that had BOTH “all day” set and had a start/end time, I tried another sync.  It synced for the first time in 18 months!
Problem occurred May 2012 – fixed Nov 2013

Hi, to remove dummy '_ModGrp' entries, rather than crashing the 'Suppr' key on your keyboard, you can use this basic VBA macro (launched for instance from Excel).
It will recursively remove all '_ModGrp...' folders
    Sub RemoveFolders_Click()
        Dim oOutlook As Outlook.Application
        Set oOutlook = New Outlook.Application
        Set objNameSpace = oOutlook.GetNamespace("MAPI")
        Call CleanFolders(objNameSpace.Folders)
    End Sub
    Sub CleanFolders(objFolders As Outlook.Folders)
        For i = objFolders.Count To 1 Step -1
            If Left(objFolders(i).Name, 7) = "_ModGrp" Then
                objFolders.Remove( i )
            Else
If Not objFolders(i).Folders Is Nothing Then
                    Call CleanFolders(objFolders(i).Folders)
                End If
            End If
        Next i
    End Sub

  • How can I sync outlook 2007 subfolders, contacts, and calendar to iphone 6

How do I setup to sync outlook 2007 subfolders, contacts, and calendar to iphone 6?
Inbox messages will sync but not the sent box from either outlook or iphone.  Also, outlook subfolders are showing up on iphone.

    Hi,
you don't need MobileMe or anything fancy. I personally sync my Outlook calendar and my Outlook address book with three computers (two at the office and one at home)and besides I run Office 2003 on one, Office 2007 on the other and Office 2010 on the third, so it can't get more complicated than that, but it works 100%.
First sync Outlook with iTunes on one computer, having done that when you try to sync it to another machine, iTunes will recognize that it is synced with another computer and ask you if you want to merge the data, say yes, That's all there is to it.
It does not work for music as you rightly say but as far as Calendars and Contacts are concerned it's flawless and transparent.
If you hit a snag talk back to me.
    Cheers.

  • Synching iPhone contacts with Outlook (non enterprise)

Quick question. Is this a  2 way synch. Meaning changes on the iPad are made to Outlook address book and vice versa ? Similar to a Blackberry synch that is 2 way and resolves conflicts (you set a default). From what i'm reading it appears to be a one way >> Outlook to iPhone. Any thoughts ? Much appreciated

If Outlook and your iPhone include contacts, you will be provided a merge prompt with the first sync for this data which you want to select. After the initial merge, contacts between the two will be kept synchronized. There should not be any conflicts since a new contact will be entered in one or the other.

  • Transfer iPhone contacts & calendars to brand new outlook 2007

Someone gave me an iPhone 3GS as a gift, I pressed the reset button and used outlook 2007 & itunes to sync my contacts & calendars.
Everything on my iPhone is fine.
My contacts & calendars in Outlook 2007 were accidentally in wrong orders by importing a backup file in pst format(Outlook Format).
For future synchronization ,I am afraid that my iPhone contacts & calendars will be in wrong orders due to the changes in Outlook 2007.
Can I transfer my iPhone contacts & calendars to a brand new outlook 2007 (without any data & resetting my outlook 2007)?
    If not,any other solutions?
The main reason of this discussion is to make my Outlook contacts & calendars in correct orders and my iPhone contacts & calendars will not be affected.
Hopefully I have a backup .pst file with correct data on my harddisk.
    Hope you guys can help.
    Thank you so much!

The Synchronization dons’ not affect the order of how information’s are displayed between outlook and iPhone IOS. It only affects the content of your contacts and calendars information’s.
However, if you want to synchronize to a brand new outlook (this mean new Mail profile), you should create a new mail profile to use with outlook. Always make a backup of your iPhone and outlook before you modify any settings.
To create a new profile, go to Mail setting in the Control Panel or Execute control mlcfg32.cpl from C:\Programs Files\Microsoft Office\OfficeXX from the Command Prompt to access Mail directly.
From here you can display the main profile which iTunes using to synchronize your information’s (Show Profiles… Button). This one called generally outlook, it is created automatically as you execute your outlook for the first time.
Then you have to create a new one using ADD button, as you finish choose Always use this profile then drop down the menu to select the new created profile.  Apply the new setting and restart your outlook.
Now you suppose to have the new profile of outlook, this let you synchronize your information with nonfactual content.
You can go back to the old profile by choosing it as the default one from Mail setting. Be careful not to synchronize with iTunes when the default profile is set to the old one.
Remark: in the Mail setting “mlcfg32.cpl “ if you choose the following option (Prompt for a profile to be used) then every time when you open outlook it will prompt you to select the profile that you need to work within, the problem that when iTunes want to synchronize your content it can’t select arbitrary on of theses profiles and this will dysfunction, so it is preferred that you select (Always use this profile) option.

  • Iphone contacts "not available" to car phonebook after messing around with Outlook.pst file names and backups. Iphone4 connects to car though and other phones connect properly.

iphone contacts "not available" to car phonebook after messing around with Outlook.pst files, names and backups, on my ms XP 2003 laptop. I substituted a much smaller new Personal Folder -Contacts File, with a smaller list of phone numbers (4 only as a test) which successfully synced to the iPhone 4. The iPhone connects to the Skoda Octavia HandsFreeSystem OK (Bluetooth works fine), but now iPhone wont load the new Contacts as it did originally. However a family Nokia (never messed with) can connect properly. So must be the iPhone or more likely an Outlook.pst \ Contacts problem. Ideas?

After fiddling a little more, the following fixed my corrupted outlook.pst file:
    1) I made a backup
    2) In outlook under file, I exported the calendar to excel
    3) In outlook under file, I imported the calendar back to outlook
    And voila, it worked.

  • How can I remove all my outlook contacts from my iphone contacts

Well, Thats was the first time I`ve used Icloud, so I don`t have much experience, and I just active Icloud on my devices and I dont know why all my outlook contacts went to my iphone contacts. How can I remove it on a easy way otherwise I would delete them one by one and that wont be nice, because are too many.
    Sincerely
    Pedro

Depending how many contacts you started with and where they were from? were they on your sim card before? to remove ALL contact from an iPhone go to iTunes / info un-tick Sync Contacts and change Outlook to another addrss book that has nothing stored in it (ie. empty) sync your phone with that and that will leave your phone with no contacts. Next look for the backup where you had your previous contacts loaded (group) and re sync it to put them back. Chech iTunes when you plug in your phone that it doesn't sync immediately when you plug it in to eliminate future problems.

Hi, i recently did a clean sync of my iphone contacts with outlook since then i added 15 contacts or so. Today i synced my iphone again and my contacts have disappeared from both outlook and my iphone apart from the 15 or so i added since my first sync. I have tried to restore my iphone from a back up but it did not solve the problem. Was wondering if someone could help me get my contacts back.

  • IPhone contacts won't sync with Outlook

I am trying to sync my iPhone contacts with my Outlook contacts but they won't sync. In iTunes I checked "Sync Contacts with Outlook" but nothing happens.

Check your contacts in Outlook and make sure they belong to iCloud and not My Contacts or another account such as Gmail, Yahoo or Exchange.  Only iCloud contacts will sync with your devices.
