ActiveX to open and close application

I am new to LV (have 6.1). What I want to do is open up an external application when a certain LV action is performed (like a boolean button, or something similar), minimize the LV application (will use Application Builder here), and close it when a different LV action is taken (a different boolean button, or something similar). I need to keep the LV app running while this other app runs so I can perform other minor tasks simultaneously. The external app needs to close so the LV app can regain control of the serial ports, among other things.
From what I've gathered so far on LV and ActiveX, there's a set of things one can do. Lots of stuff with dialog boxes, and other things like that built into Microsoft, and MS programs (Excel being quite popular). This external program is a custom program.
Any ideas?

Well, it all really depends on the custom program and how it was written. Does it have an ActiveX interface? If it does, than that's the easiest way to go. If you put an automation refnum on the fron panel, you can right click and it and choose Select ActiveX Class>Browse. The browser will list all of the ActiveX type libraries that are registered on your system. If you can find one that refers to your custom program, then you should be able to use it's methods and properties to control. If it does not have an ActiveX interface, then things get much more difficult.

What do you do if the application (Azureus) does not appear to be scriptable?
No AppleScript library for it appears in AppleScript Editor. It is a Java App. When I attempted to run the script it just times out for ever waiting for a reply from Azureus. Azureus itself sets up the spinning beachball of death.
I was hoping to simply be able to record closing the application/s by going to its menu and selecting "Close". Unfortunately, according to Macscripter, OSX applications do not support this.
Which makes me wonder why it is such an obvious part of AppleScript Editor's GUI. A cruel joke by Apple perhaps?

Trackpad is presenting a bug to open and close windows, mission control, and to move/roll the application (App) up and down.

Totally out of the blue, my trackpad is presenting a "bug". Every time that I try to open and close my mission control, or in the moments that I move / roll up and downs the Applications Screen, my Mac freezes for less than a second.
It never suffered any damage (NEVER!)! I am feeling very frustrated because I have no idea about what could cause such problem.
My MacBook Air is running OS X 10.9.5.

How to automatically open and close an application at specific times?

I am trying to figure out how to open and close an application at specific times.
I have set iCal up to open it no problem...however, the application needs you to click yes before entering into it upon boot.
How do I do this and close the app. I tried creating a workflow in automator, but iCal simply opens the workflow and does not play it. This also does not solve the issue of needing the 'yes' button to be clicked.

I have an application developedin Visual Basic with report in the CR 4.6, but in the computers customers when I will access the application,I try to emit a report , it opens and close the report. What can be?

There is no FaceTime app for the iPhone if that's what you're asking. FaceTime is accessible through your Contacts as one of the options in how to contact a person -- there is no standalone FaceTime app for iPhone.
If you mean how to disable FaceTime, you can do that in Restrictions (Settings/General/Restrictions).

Project Takes FOREVER to Open and Close

We have a large RoboHTML project that outputs to a WebHelp
system. The version of RoboHelp is X 5, possibly a version after
that, I think - but dated 2004. Two of us share this project, but
we don't use Version Control. The size of the project is about 45
MB, and includes several subfolders of topic HTMs. My coworker has
the same issues, possibly a bit faster than what I have, but still
excessive Open and Close Project times.
It takes an extremely long time to open, like about 10
minutes or more. When I select to Close Project, the CPU Usage
shown in Task Manager is up to 100 % and stays there, so the
closing process is maxed out and frozen, and obviously isn't happy.
Even when I close other applications, the project can take over 30
minutes to close - no error messages, just hourglassing. While I'm
using the project, it doesn't max out. There have been times when,
as much as I hated to do it, I had to do an End Task with Task
Manager because the project wasn't closing (and I had to leave).
Also, note that the CPD file of this project is over 4 MB. I
just was reading about deleting the CPD file, so I plan on doing
that.
I'm not sure of any more details I can provide. While I'm
working on the project, there are usually no freezes or response
time problems. Just the extremely long Open Project time - and even
longer Close Project time.
I would so appreciate any solutions or ideas. Thanks!!!

Update - I deleted the CPD file, and it opened a lot faster!!
It also closed in a reasonable amount of time - however, I did not
work in the project for a while before I closed it. So we'll see
what happens when I close it at the end of the day.
So, the deletion of the CPD file may have solved the problem.
However, if anyone wants to offer feedback on this possible
solution, I would appreciate it.

Logging open and close of documents?

I'd like to have a record of when I open and close documents, so that I can support my diary notes of jobs I've been working on. So I need to have the filename recorded. I can find an app' to log application usage; is there one for file usage ?

Hi, alan.
This search of VersionTracker reveals two apps that track document time. Of the two, T3, looks exactly like what you want, but it is expensive. Check out the developer's site
Active Timer may be more to your liking: it can track time at the application window level and is free.
You can investigate other solutions by searching MacUpdate or Version Tracker. The user-submitted reviews accompanying the listings can be helpful in sorting the wheat from the chaff. Try searches for time track and look at the various options each provides.

Pages 09 document; open and close many times; right way with Lion?

I have a 106 page document that increases in size on a daily basis. With OS 10.7, iWork/Pages 09 on my new, iMac, it's common that I lose as much as two sentences after the document is closed and re opened. After 10.7 was installed the document was closed using Command - S, and subsequently closed by pulling down File and selecting Close. - Not the way to close; the red button was so easy with 10.6. IS UNINSTALLING LION THE BEST SOLUTION?
And yes, I've read the sorry jibberish in the Pages 09 manual - which doesn't say how to open and close repeatedly a document with Pages 09.
So, with the Lion - the worst ever of spending $30, is it necessary to do a Command S every time you close? And what exactly is necessary each time you close a document using Pages 09 and Lion? - And about Auto Save; well, what about Auto Save? - The Lion means well for something other than common, understandable, text production. -- How about a separate application of Appleworks for text producers like me?

The red button is always available under 10.7 (or 10.7.1)
Under 10.7, press cmd + S once when you create the document.
After that, the system automatically save your changes.
No need for cmd + S.
To close the document we may use :
the red button
cmd + W
File > Close
as it was with older systems.

Would you Open and Close DAQmx tasks within a function or Globally

Hi Guys,
This should start something.
The subject is DAQmx Tasks.
If you were writing a function that is called many times, say MeasureVolts (double *Value) to obtain a reading from an Analogue Input Channel.
Would you.
1. open and start the task inside the function, do the measurement and then close the task inside the same function.
or
2. open the task globally and later do the measurement inside the function using the global task then close the task only when the application is closed.
I am mostly concerned with the overhead of task generation and closing, what do you guys and girls out there do?? and what is the general opinion?

I would definitely NOT keep configuring and clearing (I think that's what you mean by open and close) the same task over and over. I would configure once, read many times in my main app, then stop & clear once.
I typically like to package such data acq into an "Action Engine" that keeps track of its own DAQmx task id so I don't need to sling that task id wire around into multiple parallel loops / vi's. Attached is a very stripped-down example for Digital Input.
I would typically do more with error testing and would make the "Action" enum into a typedef custom control, but this gives you the basic idea. The action engine approach works very nicely when there's a small # of different kinds of input parameters and output info needed to support all the necessary action cases. When you start needing a large number of differnent kinds of inputs and outputs to support the desired actions, then you start having difficulty with (1) having enough terminals to wire and (2) remembering which inputs and outputs are meaningful for which actions.

App Eckhart on Emerson Tolle TV-Ipad open and close quickly.

Recently I purchased app Eckhart on Emerson Tolle TV-Ipad directly from App Store, once installed, an icon was created in my Ipad screen but when I try to open the application it open and close quickly.
When I review installed applications this app does not appear.
Actually I had installed ibooks, Numbers and pages. All other applications works fine.
IOS release is 5.0.1 Spanish no update pending.
In order to solve this issue i trying deleting and reinstalling the app but the problem steel persist

Try double-tapping the home button, then holding the app icon until the minus sign appears. Touch the minus sign to kill all the apps. Then restart the iPad with the home/power buttons (hold for ten seconds) until the apple appears.

Ipod touch 3.1.1 free app open and close

I upgraded ipod touch to the newest 3.1.1 and downloaded some free app for test such as skype, weather, yahoo financa,etc.
But somehow when I touched to open apps, they will close very quickly, I reboot ipod a few times,also removed and re-installed, still not working, open and close immdiately.
also I found my Notes is messed up, can not delete, add any new notes. When adding a new note, touch 'Done' then back to home.
any help will be highly appreciated, otherwise I have to downgrade and jailbreak it..:(

Restarting your iPod refreshes the memory of iPod Touch and chances are that your applications will be running fine after a restart. It is also recommended that you should restart your iPod Touch once in a week.
Second: The app doesn’t meant for your iPod Touch
Third : The app isn’t available in your country and you might be using .ipa files for installation, if you have this problem with .ipa files then try another version or latest version of the app and it might work.
Fourth: Use applications that frees memory, i recommend a restart though.
Most of the time, a simple restart solves the closing app problem.

Do you still get the problem in [[safe mode]] and with default themes, and all plugins disabled. Note common causes of crashes are malware, and versions of the software IDvault. (do you use IDvault ? - often provided by Comcast)
