"Activity" information under "Window" in Safari menu bar

In another thread a very helpful explanation was provided for the content of the information provided in the "Activity" window [or "pane"?] here:
<http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=345525&tstart=0>
Now just for interest sake what is the purpose or usefulness of this information for the average non-geek user?
Thanks

Most people can probably live their lives with never looking at the Activity window. However, it can be used in troubleshooting a web page and how Safari renders that page by tracking what has been downloaded, what couldn't be located, and what didn't download to the browser. You can force any item to refresh by Control-Double Clicking on it. This is similar to refreshing a web page, but only the selected object gets refreshed. You can also download any object to your selected download location by Option-Double Clicking on an object.
Just last week, I had a problem with a web page. One of the developers asked to see the Activity list and was able to determine that an important item was not on the list and, therefore, it was not downloaded and it did not appear on the page, causing the problem I had. From there, a solution to the problem was reached.
Some people have used Option-Double Clicking to capture flash animations or other parts of a web page.

My safari menu bar is missing.  The menu bar for desktop, HD, and apps appears, but when I click on Safari, it disappears, so I can no longer see my buttons for History, etc.  I think my husband (pc user) clicked it away when borrowing my computer.  Any ideas how to retrieve it?  Thanks.

I too was having the same problem However, I could access both the menu bar and the dock by hovering my mouse over them so it wasn't a huge problem but I prefered having it there anyway. I was not in full screen mode and I could still go into full screen mode if I wanted to.  I found the easiest solution was to just quit safai and restart it, but it might not work for you considering you couldn't access you menu bar either way.
I found this article that allows you to hide/show the menu bar and the dock through TextEdit (didn't work for me) http://www.mactricksandtips.com/2009/07/hide-the-menubar-or-dock-in-specific-app s.html It is pretty old so it might not work for lion and a bit risky if you don't know what you're doing so I wouldn't really recommend doing it this way.
And KSheppard, I know it's not really any of my buisness, but the way to get answers to a question isn't by insulting others and being quick-tempered. Even if you feel like you were insulted first, don't try snapping at people who aren't obligated to help you. Honestly, it just makes everything easier if everybody is cooperative and polite.

  • "View" light stay lit on Safari Menu Bar

"View" light stay lit on Safari Menu Bar.  How do you turn it off?  I cannot customize my menu bar.

    Quit Safari. Restart the computer.

  • How do you make the Safari menu bars at the top and bottom of the browser go away in iOS7 when you can't scroll the screen?

The menu bar at the bottom of Safari screens only goes away if you scroll the screen.  But for one page content, the screen can't be scrolled which renders useless any links/buttons at the bottom of the page.
Is there a fix for this in iOS7?
In iOS6, users needed only to tap the screen to remove the Safari menu bars.  This does not work in iOS6.

In Safari > View choose Exit Full Screen

  • Why does this forum open in a window without the menu bar ?

When coming to this forum trough the " Access the Java Studio Creator Community Forum" link on the "Java Studio Creator Forums" page, it opens a browser window without the menu bar. I understand that Sun thinks it's better for me not to have the menu bar, but I personally prefer to have it. What I prefer over everything else is to have the choice.
By the way, one of the reason I prefer Sun products over Microsoft products is that I generally can choose what is better for me. Like to have or have not a menu bar, or to have my IDE in english rather that in french. (By the way, this last issue has been solved ;-))

Use this direct URL, you can have the menu bar still --

  • My safari menu bar disappeared. Any ideas how to get it back?

The safari menu bar normally at the top of the screen has disappeared suddenly and i dont know how to get ut back. has this happened before or does anyone have ideas on how to fix it?

App icons at the bottom of the page? Do you mean the icons in your Dock?
    Check System Preferences > Dock
See if you have: Automatically hide and show the Dock selected.
Which Mac OS X do you have installed?
And check System Preferences > Desktop & Screen Saver
See if you have:   Translucent menu bar   selected.

  • How to Make Fonts Bigger in Safari Menu Bar and Tabs

    Hello,
I just set up a new IMAC 27" for my mom and she cannot read the menu bars and tabs in Safari. I know how to make the text of the webpage itself bigger, but is there any way to make the text in the menu bars and tabs bigger.  Someone sugggested Opera browser. Would that be a better option?
    Thanks
    John

    Welcome!
I had the same issue with my 27-inch--here's how I fixed it:
    1) Go to System Preferences > Displays and select the "Displays" tab
    2) For "Resolution" there are two buttons: "Best for Display" and "Scaled." Select "Scaled."
    3) Now you should see a list of resolutions. The default is probably 2560x1440. Change it to 1920x1080.
I don't have great eyes but this setting makes it easy for me to see. It makes all menu bars including Safari about 3/10ths inch wide and the menu lettering close to 1/4-inch tall.

  • How do I remove Delicious from my safari menu bar?

I removed the extension for Delicious and tried to remove the Delicious icon from my tool bar by dragging it out of the "customize toolbar" section. But it keeps reappearing and I also cannot find a way to remove Delicious from the menu bar of Safari. I am running Yosemite.
    Thanks!

Yes, you are correct that "top hit" as well as other "suggested sites" will appear. These are not used unless you touch them. This feature can't be turned off.
If you wish something else try one of the many other web browsers in the App Store.

  • Window hidden behind menu bar

Is there any solution to this? I tried GeekBind to move the window, but that didnt work either.

Also, many programmes have a "Window" > "Zoom" menu option, which usually causes the front window to resize to dimensions suitable for the current monitor resolution...

  • Active State not working in Horizontal Menu Bar

I have a Horizontal Menu Bar.
I've set the Top Level Item with Normal, Rollover, Mouse Down and Active States to be different.
All three work on the Top Level Item, EXCEPT for Active State. When the menu is Active, and I move the mouse down the items, the Top Level Item defualts to the Normal State, NOT the Active State.
I've tried trashing the Active State and rebuilding it.  That did not work.
I can't figure out how to get the Top Level Item in the Menu Bar to display the Active State.
Hope someone has some suggestions, or knows if this is a bug.
    Thanks.
    Dave Coop.

Hmmm...I've just been playing around, and I think I got the Active State to work correctly.  I think my problem was not understand what Active State means.
To answer your question, I was changing the Font Color and Box Fill Color of the Active State.
I did not understand that Active State means the look of the Menu Item when the PAGE is active.  I thought it meant the look of the Menu item when the cursor is scrolling down the Menu (i.e. when the MENU is Active, not the page).
Look at this page for an example of what I'm trying to achieve...
    http://www.pgavdestinations.com
When you hover over the "Work" menu item, and move the cursor down the menu, the state of "Work" remains changed until you move the cursor off of that menu column. It does NOT return back to it's Normal state until you are off of that menu column.
Is there a way to achieve this with the menu states in Muse?
    Thanks for the replies!
    Dave.

  • Verifying active processes under windows

Here is the situation. I have created a java application that will dial to a pager using the 56K modem. The application is for a mission critical process at an assembly line. The application is used to inform that the particular program required to operate the assembly line on the computer has been shut down or crashed.
Thus, the java application will continuously check for the status of the program (active/not responding etc). If found to be not present amongst the task list, it will dial the pager.
I am not sure as to whether i must check the registry for some kind of a value indicating the process is active or whether i should use win API.
I need some input from you all.
    Thanks in advance.

Don't you think it's kind of a waste of time asking questions like this on a forum about Java Programming? I'll just point out that the Windows registry is used for storing permanent configuration information and suggest you look in MSDN for information about Windows programming.
