Activity monitor won't launch

It pops up for a second in the Dock and then disappears. Is there anyway to reinstall it? or trouble-shoot it? I repaired permissions but it didn't help.

Hi
Create another administrator account - call it whatever you like, test will do. System Preferences > Accounts > click the plus icon. Once you've created this log out of the current account and log into the new account. Now try to see if Activity Monitor will launch. If it does not try a reinstall of the OS but preserve network users and settings. If it does launch then log out of the new admin account, log back in to the old account and move the whole of the Preferences folder in /Users/Home/Library to the Desktop. Restart the mac. On successful log in you will notice that the dock has been reset back to its default - don't worry you have not lost anything. Go to the Preferences folder you previously moved to the desktop and find the com.apple.mail.plist and com.apple.dock.plist and move these two files to the newly created Preferences folder in /Users/Home/Library. If it tells you that com.apple.dock.plist already exists then overwrite it. Restart the mac again and you should now be OK.

  • Activity Monitor won't open

Lately I cannot open the AM I get the message "AM can not start because of incorrect file permissions I have trashed the AM plist from the preferences in Library but no result. Message concludes "try opening it from utilities in the apps folder" which is exactly where it is.
Any help appreciated. I posted this last year and did not follow up, apologies.

Try reinstalling the Activity Monitor application. Get Pacifist
You can use Pacifist to extract the Activity Monitor application from your restore disk(s) and reinstall it.
Make sure and run Disk Utility and repair disk permissions after you install the app. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select FirstAid, then click: Repair Disk Permissions. Quit DU when it's finished and reboot.

  • Activity Monitor won't leave dock

I've tried right mouse also pulling above dock to remove-but won't go away.

    Hello:
Open Activity Monitor.  Go to the menu bar>view>dock icon.  Check show application icon.  That will obviously disappear when the application is closed.

  • Activity Monitor Won't Run

Anyone else having this problem? Activity monitor will simply not run. It starts, then crashes...every time.

Me, too! Since upgrading to SL & then immediately to 10.6.2 a couple days ago.
Well, it won't run - it didn't crash, it just hung on startup. I tried repairing permissions and, after finding this thread, removed the plist file suggested, but no luck. I just realized I should check the log (Console), and found it was putting out this, over and over again:
    12/13/09 11:28:47 AM com.apple.launchd[1] (com.apple.ActivityMonitor[4828]) posix_spawn("/Applications/Utilities/Activity Monitor.app/Contents/MacOS/activitymonitord", ...): No such file or directory
And exiting, then retrying every 10 seconds.
I opened the Activity Monitor package to confirm that activitymonitord is there, but upon rereading the message I realized it's telling me Activity Monitor needs to be in the utilities folder - and I had moved it into a subdirectory (to declutter my Utilities folder). It always worked there in previous systems, but apparently SL's Activity Monitor has a hard-coded address built in.
I moved AM back to where Apple wants it and it immediately opened. Don't know if this helps anyone else, but I thought I'd put this out there in case it does . . .
(Yes, I know you "should" leave programs where Apple puts them and keep your files in your user folder, but I just like to do things my way whenever I can get away with it.)

  • Activity Monitor won't run after leopard install

The only problem i'm having is that when i try and load Activity Monitor it bounces once and crashes. No amount of relaunches and reset/relaunches fixes the problem.
Any ideas? I've also tried launching the old tiger version of Activity Monitor that is on one of my SuperDuper backup external drives, but no luck.
    Thanks,
    Conrad

I apologize for the poor formatting. I did a filter for Activity and found these references to the crash. It looks like i'm missing a framework required for displaying the graphs that activity monitor uses. Any advice on how to go about replacing that?
    Thanks

  • Os x Mavericks - Activity Monitor won't display

after I upgraded my Mac Mini to Mavericks, I am unable to display the Activity Monitor.  I have run the disk utility to repair permissions, and I've verified the drive.   I've looked in the console for any error messages related to the launch of Activity Monitor and found none.  The top menu bar for the activity monitor appears, and I can select the pull-down menus.  My Macbook Air successfully upgraded to Mavericks, and the activity monitor works there.
Can anyone offer some help on this?  Thanks.

I've signed on with two different user id's and the activity monitor works perfectly.  It must be something in this particular user id.   Also, when I click on the Finder icon, the top bar greys out, but I can go to it and select "file - new finder window" and I get the finder window.  What should I look for?

  • Activity Moniter won't launch, even I repaired privileges....

I have same problem, I deleted the whole utility folder, and one day I copied it from my external HD to my ibook, everything works fine except Activity Moniter.
I have read all answers, everyone is talking about using disk utility to repair privileges, and I did it many times, but my activityMoniter is still not working.
and it still shows the same message :
"2007-05-14 18:04:27.404 Activity Monitor[241] The tool is not setuid root - please repair the privileges"
Do u know of anyway to solve this problem?

Download Pacifist. Insert your Reinstall disk that came with your computer. Find the package thyat has the Utilities. Select Activity Monitor, and reinstall it.
Find Pacifist through versiontracker.com. The packages will be in the "System" folder, probably.

  • Activity monitor won't work

When I try to click on it says it is damaged or incomplete. How to I fix it?
    Alison

Extract it from your computer's original disks, using Pacifist if needed, and then run the combo updater for your version of Mac OS X.

  • Activity Monitor crashes every time I launch it since Leopard upgrade.

Activity Monitor crashes every time I try to launch it. It's done this ever since I first upgraded from Tiger to Leopard. I can't seem to narrow down why it happens. It doesn't seem to matter what's running already. I had it startup automatically when I had Tiger and upon the very first boot up in to Leopard it crashed and I've never been able to get it to run.
I saw one other person that said he had the exact same problem with Activity Monitor and the only way he was able to resolve his issue was by copying the program from another Mac. Well, I've only got one Mac. I've run the software update and installed all the available q and I still have this persistent problem.
Is it somehow possible to expand the file off the Leopard or Tiger DVD? Anyone have any other possible solutions? Are there other programs out there that will do the same thing as Activity Monitor?
    Thanks,
    Jeff

Delete the com.apple.ActivityMonitor.plist file located in /Users/username/Library/Preferences/ and relaunch Activity Monitor. If that doesn't fix it, create a new admin user account, log into it, and see if the problem persists. If so, use Pacifist 2.5 to extract it from the install disk and replace the existing one and the plist file. If not, then you most likely have a conflicting or corrupted file somewhere in the old account. To fix that, delete the original account, selecting the save data option, recreate the old account using the same username/password combo, log out and back into the new account, open the saved data dmg file in /Users/Deleted Users/, and slowly replace stuff. Also, see the steps I posted for resolving conflicts/corrupt plists within an account at:

Greyed imaged in the Import dialog box mean you have already imported the photos into Lightroom, so there is no need and no benefit to importing them a second time.
Just go to the Library module, search for the desired photos, and resume working on these photos.
