Activity timeout at 10 minutes?

I've been having a problem with my G5, that seems to occur after 10 minutes.
Example 1: doing distance learning online with WebEx app, I lose the connection to that server after 10 minutes (though my internet connection is fine), and it automatically tries to reconnect, and then I get an error message
"Exception Thrown Error -61.
Function: Save to Preferences.
File: cRecentDocMenuAttachment.cpp
Line #532"
I close Safari and begin again, and the whole process repeats every 10 minutes. There are no settings in the WebEx interface that limit the time.
Example 2: Recording audio from external device via line in, recording stops after 10 minutes. No error messages appear.
In Energy Saver, all power-saving options are set to Never.
Is there another setting I should be looking for somewhere? What else might be causing these problems? I appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.
Power Mac G5, OS 10.4.6, 2 Gb RAM, 370 Gb HD (340 avail), all updates in place, cable ISP.
Power mac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Hmmm I get
-61 wrPermErr Write permissions error; Not a publisher
Do you have some sort of Menu Bar extra? Apple discourages use of this area because it's resevered, but programmers but their stuff in this area regardless which might be causing your timeout problem.
It seems something is trying to write to disk and interrupts everything else for you at 10 minute intervals.

  • Custom workflow plugin timeout after 2 minutes

    Hi all,
I created a custom workflow which calls external web services but it timeout after 2 minutes on Dynamics CRM 2011 On-Premise. I am using async on-demand workflow settings.
I tried to change the registry OLEDBTimeout, ExtendedTimeout, NormalTimeout but with no effect.
    Any advise.  Thanks.

    Hi Gary,
It is not a good idea to call external web service from workflow for many reasons. One given here:
    1) If web service is not available, it does not notify user for any failures.
Can you write the same code in plug-in and check if this works for you? If it does and you still need to have workflow, suggest check the async account running the service and make sure it has enough rights to call web service
and also make sure async box has internet connection to make the outbound service call.
    Hope this helps.

  • I have read the various threads regarding slow boot up times, on my 2009 MBP it takes 1 minute to get a usable interface but without doing anything else the HD is active for a further minute, is this reasonable ?

My MBP after the Lion upgrade takes 1 minute to put something usable on screen and without doing anything else the HD is active for another minute.
I have visited the Genius bar where they went through some maintenance routines and permissions repaired etc but the boot up time remains the same.
I have cleared the cache as suggested in other threads but is this the best I can expect as with SL the computer booted up in about 30 seconds ?
I recall reading there may be unwanted  programs loading at boot up time but I do not know where to look in the system to check.

Thanks for the reply, I have followed your suggestion but unfortunately it has not improved the boot time, do you have any further advice you could offer me ?
I use my MBP for working on and storing my photographic images following my Photoshop adjustments, these individual image files are between 50 to 60Mb, I was reading about OSX self defragmenting files below 20Mb, these files are not intended as start up items but do you think storing approx 200Gb of these files could be having so effect ? I am a fromt end user so my limited knowledge is restricted to repairing permissions etc. I am probably clutching at straws but it be better to store these images on an external HD in addition to my backups on other HD's.
    Thanks.

    Hello,
Sorry to see that you're having an issue with Acrobat XI Pro. One thing to ensure is that you have the latest patch for Acrobat 11 applied, since several bug fixes have been integrated into these patches.
If Acrobat Pro menu item - Help -> Check for Updates indicates that no further updates are available, you have the latest patch and in this case, please share the crash dump with me the next time a crash occurs, so that we can analyse the issue.
You can generate the crash dump again using following steps:
    Create c:\temp\
Download and extract http://download.sysinternals.com/files/Procdump.zip into c:\temp.
Make sure no Word or Acrobat instances are already running -- check via Task Manager.
Launch Microsoft Word and try to convert the file.
Launch CMD prompt and type "cd c:\temp\procdump"
On the command-prompt type: "procdump -e -ma Winword.exe c:\temp\01.dmp". Procdump will now wait for the crash to happen.
Perform the actions in Acrobat that cause it to crash.
Once the Acrobat crashes, Procdump will create dump at c:\temp\01.dmp.

  • File Activity Timeout

I am working on a php website in dreamweaver and every time I
make any edit change the file activity dialog pops up and then
times out. Now, my server is offline right now but I'm not working
on the server. I'm working on my local copy. Here is my setup:
    Local windows workstation:
    Remote apache/php/mysql via ftp
    Test = same server
I just want to edit some files, I don't want to connect to
the database, don't want to make any database changes or map to any
database fields. I just want to edit some text and get some work
done while the server is down.
Why does Dreamweaver need to talk to the server every time I
edit text or insert a field? This is absolutely terrible. I can't
do anything. It takes forever to do just one thing?
Besides, the big selling point of dreamweaver 8 is that the
file activity is supposed to happen in the background. This is not
true. The file activity locks up dreamweaver until it times out or
    until I click on close.
Is there a fix for this?
I should have just stayed with Dreamweaver MX 2004 as there
is really no benefit to upgrading. What a waste.

Have you tried it out with AIR 3.2?
    thanks,
    Ignacio

Still happening with ibooks on my iPhone, have just tried to replicate this on my iPad mini by adding all the updated apps so it matches the iPhone, and then the same book. There's a slight heat to the rear of the ipad but very slight, whereas on the iPhone it is hot enough that I feel I need to turn the phone off and not use it.  During the day I've made a conscious effort to use apps on the phone and no problem with those.  Reading from ibooks on the iPod Touch (which has not had today's app updates added, nor the book I downloaded) no problem at all.
I opened a book on the iPhone at 20.39 with 96% battery.  App crashed at 20.40 at 95% battery.  Opened again, no crash but by 20.43 battery read 92%.
A quick look at battery usage shows today 43% but for the past 7 days only 10% of total battery power used.
In comparison Echofon which I use a reasonable amount shows 14% today and 32% over 7 days/Facebook 6% today 9% over last 7 days/Mail 4% today (says low signal below the app name) 7% over 7 days.  I haven't used the phone much this week as I've been home a lot of the time (not working at the moment) and only used the phone for data when out and about.
All my devices have 8.0.2 - guess it's a problem with the phone software rather than iPad or iPod Touch.

  • How to Increase the 15 Minute Idle Timeout?

I saw some similar posts to increasing the EM timeout, but they didn't seem to relate to the idle timeout period.
I need to increase the idle timeout from 15 minutes to something more like 30 minutes. A lot of times, I'll be editing a package with 10g on the web and doing some research online in between edits, only to come back and be timed out for no activity within 15 minutes. That's just too short. Can I increase the time? Where can I find that setting?
    Thanks!

Change or Add the parameter in emoms.properties
    For DBconsole
    $ORACLE_HOME/servername.domain_SID/sysman/config/emoms.properties
    For Grid Control
    $ORACLE_HOME/sysman/config/emoms.properties
For example, you can change this time to 60 minutes (1 hours) by adding the following lines to the above file.
    oracle.sysman.eml.maxInactiveTime=60

  • ASA 60 minute inactivity timeout - Poor choice?

    Hello Friends!
We had an issue the other day where doing backups through the firewall (don't ask) caused the "control" session to timeout while the backups were still going on over the "data" connection.  This broke the backup about two hours into the job.  My first thought was that the backup solution vendor should implement some kind of tcp keepalive for the control connection.  A packet capture showed they indeed were --  after 2 hours!  Ah ha!  Busted!  How could they choose such a poor choice of TCP keepalive timer for their application that would not be compatible with the 60 minute inactivity timer that so many firewall vendors use (Cisco, Juniper, Checkpoint and Fortinet all use a default 60 minute inactivity timer for TCP)?
Well, a colleague of mine pointed out that there is actually an old RFC that covers this.  RFC 1122.  It says:
Keep-alive packets MUST only be sent  when no data or acknowledgement packets have been received for the  connection within an interval.  This interval MUST be configurable and  MUST default to no less than two hours.
Now I know that RFC is old (October 1989), but that's all I could find.  Is there something that supercedes that?  Maybe common sense perhaps?  I understand not wanting to fill up your connection table because of mis-behaving applications, but I'm just looking for ammunition to use against the backup solution vendor.  Surely they're going to point to this RFC.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Certain application behaviour sometimes forces our hand to reconfigure the "timeout" values for certain customer connections. Though this has been pretty rare in my own case atleast.
I would imagine that any kind of keepalive would be something that would be constantly transmitted on the connection that needs to stay up and it would certainly be something that the application handles itself.
I did a quick try on my home ASA to check if this could be corrected by the ASA wihtout globally affecting all connections through the ASA and it seems to work fine
Here is the configuration I did
    Where
TIMEOUT = Is simply the name for each configuration (ACL, Class-Map and Policy-Map) that I chose
x.x.x.x = Is the destination IP address for which I want to create these rules for

    Where
x.x.x.x = Is the destination IP for the connection for which you want to configure its own "timeout" values
y.y.y.y = Is my ASA public IP
a.a.a.a = Is the connection destination IP address for which the global "timeout" values are applied
Theres is also an option called "dcd" in the same "set connection timeout" configuration
Here is the Command Reference section for "set connection timeout"
set connection timeout To specify connection timeouts within a policy map for a traffic class, use the set connection timeout command in class configuration mode. To remove the timeout, use the no form of this command. set connection timeout {[embryonic hh:mm:ss] [idle hh:mm:ss [reset]] [half-closed hh:mm:ss]  [dcd [retry_interval [max_retries]]]} no set connection timeout {[embryonic hh:mm:ss] [idle hh:mm:ss [reset]] [half-closed hh:mm:ss]  [dcd [retry_interval [max_retries]]]} Syntax Description
    dcd
Enables dead connection detection (DCD). DCD detects a dead connection  and allows it to expire, without expiring connections that can still  handle traffic. You configure DCD when you want idle, but valid  connections to persist. After a TCP connection times out, the ASA sends  DCD probes to the end hosts to determine the validity of the connection.  If one of the end hosts fails to respond after the maximum retries are  exhausted, the ASA frees the connection. If both end hosts respond that  the connection is valid, the ASA updates the activity timeout to the  current time and reschedules the idle timeout accordingly.
    embryonic hh:mm:ss
Sets the timeout period until a TCP embryonic (half-open) connection is  closed, between 0:0:5 and 1193:0:0. You can also set the value to 0,  which means the connection never times out. A TCP connection for which a  three-way handshake is not complete is an embryonic connection.
    half-closed hh:mm:ss
Sets the idle timeout period until a half-closed connection is closed,  between 0:5:0 and 1193:0:0. You can also set the value to 0, which means  the connection never times out. Half-closed connections are not  affected by DCD. Also, the ASA does not send a reset when taking down  half-closed connections.
    idle hh:mm:ss
Sets the idle timeout period after which an established connection of  any protocol closes. The valid range is from 0:0:1 to 1193:0:0.
    max_retries
Sets the number of consecutive failed retries for DCD before declaring  the connection as dead. The minimum value is 1 and the maximum value is  255.
    reset
For TCP traffic only, sends a TCP RST packet to both end systems after idle connections are removed.
    retry_interval
Time duration in hh:mm:ss format to wait after each unresponsive DCD probe before sending another probe, between 0:0:1 and 24:0:0.
Defaults The default embryonic timeout is 30 seconds. The default half-closed idle timeout is 10 minutes. The default dcd max_retries value is 5. The default dcd retry_interval value is 15 seconds. The default tcp idle timeout is 1 hour. The default udp idle timeout is 2 minutes. The default icmp idle timeout is 2 seconds. The default esp and ha idle timeout is 30 seconds. For all other protocols, the default idle timeout is 2 minutes. To never time out, enter 0:0:0.

I can't really say anything else to this other than it seems stupid to me to not have a mechanism to keep the Control connection active with frequent (enough) messages that will keep it active as long as there is data transfer on the actual Data connection. I dont know what kind of keepalive it is that polls at minimum on 2hour interval. Kind of beats the whole purpose of keepalive.
Though then again this is not a subject I could comment on any kind of certainty. Only comment on the way it seems to me.

  • LMS 3.2 Windows - 10 minute timeout while using TACACS+ Login Module

    Hello,
we have changed our login module to TACACS+ (Non-ACS). All works fine when we use users which are set up in TACACS+. Using an account which does not exist (or only exists in CiscoWorks Local login module - even as fallback user) we register a timeout of 10 minutes until the login module fails the request (turned on Debugging and watching the stdout.log of tomcat). While running the backup.pl script it seems that the user "admin" tries to access the web server, but as this user is not set up in TACACS+ we have to wait 20 or more minutes until the backup starts. So, is there a way to set a timeout value for that login module? Is it known that the admin account is needed to perform the backup?
    Thanks and kind regards
    Allessandro

This delay is coming from your TACACS server.  Can you shorten the authentication failure there?  As for the user ID, check your System Identity User under Common Services > Server > Security > System Identity Setup.  Make sure this use exists in the TACACS databases.

  • Infoview never times out (web.xml files indicate a 20 minute timeout)

I currently am using Business Objects Enterprise XIR2 w/SP3.  we have an apache front end load balanced between two web servers and we are using the tomcat connector to interface with the two app servers.
Right now InfoView does not timeout not matter how long you have it open (even after 24 hrs).
I've seen several articles that mention the web.xml file and the <session-timeout> tag which all of our current files list the timeout as 20 (minutes I assume)
the file that i believe sets the timeout for infoview is the located in desktoplaunch\WEB-INF\web.xml
does anyone know if there is anohter file that i'm missing or why the timeout is not occuring.
    thanks

  • ATTENTION PORTERS !   I fixed the issue, activated in 5 minutes!

Ok , so here goes :
17 Hours into this, I have been unable to port my Verizon Phone Number to the iPhone.
I called customer service, you know, the 877.800.3701 number.
Now, let me first say this - if you get hung up on, at&t is aware of this, it's a glitch apparently. I kept calling and got someone within 30 seconds of holding. He said there were 0 people in queue, and they keep getting dropped calls.
Anyways, the solution. If you are porting, CANCEL it over the phone. AT&T will reverse, and you will get an email immediately cancelling the activation.
Reactivate, but do a NEW line of service, do NOT port. At&t states that you can port after the madness dies down. I ran through the ropes, my phone is now activated with a different number, for now. I have my old number forwarded, so calls will route to the iPhone.
Also, I am already receiving calls on the iPhone, it took about 7 minutes total...
    GOOD LUCK!

After a frustrating day, I found this thread and ultimately got my iPhone activated. The problem was that I was trying to port my old number. After being bounced between ATT and Apple for a while, I got someone at ATT to cancel my initial activation/cancel the porting of my old number. She said "you're lucking, your porting hasn't gone very far so I can still cancel it," So, she cancelled the porting, I waited 5 minutes, then plugged the iPhone in again. I got the initial activation screen, did NOT select "tranfer existing phone number," and set up a new number. The phone was activated in about 2 minutes.
So, my advice is that if you're trying to port an existing number, call AT&T and cancel that immediately.

  • Timeouts for Discoverer Viewer and SSO

We've enabled SSO for Discoverer Viewer 9.0.4. We set the Viewer timeout in the web.xml file to 120 minutes. We set the SSO Global user Inactivity Timeout to 240 minutes. Viewer sessions don't timeout at 120 minutes. Does the GUIT timeout override the Viewer timeout?
    --- Steve

    Hi
As far as I know, the Viewer sessions don't time out using the Discoverer settings. These only affect Discoverer Plus. The SSO timeouts will apply though. Out of interest can you tell in which folder was the web.xml you modified?
By the way, 240 sounds an awful long time to allow an SSO connection to stay active.
    Best wishes

  • Webservice timeout ? where can we set it up in BO ?

Hi, I post this question in this part of the forum as well in case some Xcelsius user would have had the same problem :
    Hi,
we are using BO XI R2 Edge and we have a number of concurrent accesses licences.
We have a problem handling the life duration of a webservice.
We use Query as webservice to build a webservice from our universe, and use the advanced feature to set a timeout of 1 minute for the webservice.
Then we use Xcelsius to generate a table that is exported to WebI and integrated in Infoview as an object.
When we display this object from the infoview, the xcelsius calls the webservice to get data, and when a user clicks on a part of the graph, he gets another table from another Xcelsius object, with another webservice.
The problem is that a webservice is still active during 20 minutes, so our concurrents licences are consumed really fas by a single person browsing xcelsius documents ...
Webservices are going through Tomcat, which has been set to 1 minute as session timeout, as well as 2 minutes for IIS (infoview sessions).
Still, no result, there seems to be a timeout period of 20 minutes set up in BO, but we cannot find where.
Could you please indicate use where this parameter can be set ?
Thank you for your help in this blocking problem for us.
    Sébastien

If you use Query As A Web Service, you can configure the timeout of web service to other time but not 20 minutes default:
    1. Open Business Objects\Tomcat\webapps\dswsbobje\WEB-INF\classes\dsws.properties.
    2. Find and configure the property "session.timeout=". If this property does not exist, add it.
Note the time is measured by seconds. If you want to set 60 minutes, you should configure session.timeout=3600.
    3. Restart tomcat.
