Acts as if system is missing

Lately when I startup the computer it will stay the screen with the gray apple. After sometime it will restart itself and finally load up correctly. This behavior is what I would expect if it can't find the current startup disk, so it reboots to one that it does find. The problem is there is only the internal drive installed and this is a recent problem. Could it be the latest 10.4.10 update?
Any ideas?

Hi-
Have you verified/repaired the drive with Disk Utility? It's best to do so, before and after a major update.
How did you update? If by automatic update, there is a possibility of incomplete file update. The solution would to be download a copy of the update, restart in safe mode (restart while holding the shift key) then run the update installer.
http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/macosx10410updateppc. html
A PRAM reset would also be advisable. Startup holding the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
Then, release the keys.
I have a G4 GE that experienced similar, and the PRAM reset resolved the problem......

  • How to make an EditText with CFL act like a system "Item Description" ?

    Hello,
I have added an EditText with a CFL linked to "lf_items".
I want the EditText to act like a system "Item Description" EditText, so that when
the user enters a value and presses on CTRL+TAB in it, a CFL event will not be triggered and the focus will simply be transfered to the next item.
Does anybody know how to do that ?

    have found a solution.
I wanted to have an EditText with a CFL pointing to
    SAPbouiCOM.BoLinkedObject.lf_Items .
In sap's marketing document one can enter a free description to
the "Item Description" column by using CTRL + TAB .
I needed to build a similar solution.
The answer I found was to:
    Track a CTRL+ TAB press,
Read the value the user entered from the EditText.Value
    Totally stop the CFL event
    Do oMatrix.FlushToDataSource()
Write the value to the DBDataSource of the user table
    Do oMatrix.LoadFromDataSource()
Allow the CFL event to run as usual.
    Cheers

You have broken your installation by resizing incorrectly.
Erase your hard drive and reinstall OSX, then reinstall Boot Camp. Do not attempt to resize again unless you are prepared to use the correct tool. (Paragon Camp Tune is the only option other than the delete and reinstall method)

  • Operating system is missing

server is not booting to OS mode and showing an error message while trying to boot with c:\ . error message is "operating system is missing"
server has windows 2012 with raid 5 (6hdds) and logical drive is OK. 1st boot controller and boot volumes are set correctly in server bios and raid controller bios. while trying to boot with OS media : does not show repair option. server has critical data
and softwares installed. hence looking for instant help to recover from operating system is missing" scenario

    Hi Harsh,
To boot into repair mode, have you check the repair option in the scrrenshot below:
This issue could be caused by:
1.The basic input/output system (BIOS) does not detect the hard disk.
    2.The hard disk is damaged.
3.Sector 0 of the physical hard disk drive has an incorrect or malformed master boot record (MBR).
Note Some third-party programs or disk corruption can damage an MBR.
4.An incompatible partition is marked as Active.
5.A partition that contains the MBR is no longer active.
And you can follow these steps to troubleshoot:
Boot into repair mode: repair your computer->troubleshoot->command prompt
1.Run a chkdsk for your main partition (e.g. C:), to do that enter:
    chkdsk c: /f/r
    2.Bootrec.exe: Repair MBR
    /fixmbr
This will create a new Master Boot Record, but will not overwrite your exisiting partition table.
    /fixboot
This will add a new boot sector. If you boot sector is damaged you might not be able to start your system.
    /rebuildbcd
Scans your disk for Windows server 2012 compatible installations, needed to repair your Windows installation.
3.If you changed the "mark partition as active" option to other partition by mistake, then the error occurred, please try to use the cmd diskpart:
    diskpart
     list disk
     select disk 1
     list partition
     select partition 1
     active
If there is anything else regarding this issue, please feel free to post back.

What do I need to do differently?

The late, great Pondini was investigating that issue before he passed away.

I think there might be information there on how to reset Time Machine to do a full backup. I think you basically have to reset it and start over.

  • You cannot log on (CUA System assignment missing)

    Hi
We are in the middle of CRM upgrade. We upgraded couple of test (CRS) and Dev (CRD) server. We are creating both CRD/CRS in the Solution manager system landscape using tcode SMSY as the satellite servers. Connectivity between satellite server CRD and solution manager server SMP (also in CRD and SMP) has been successfully created.
While checking the Authorization test in Sateliite server (CRD/CRS) for RFC "SM_SMPCLNT050_BACK", we are getting the following error:
"You cannot log on (CUA System assignment missing)"
All other RFC created by SMSY is working fine.
To Fix this problem, i tried to repeat same process again. I was able to delete following RFC's using "clean-up RFC" function of SMSy tcode.
    - SM_CRDCRMCLNT050_READ
    - SM_CRDCRMCLNT050_TMW
    - SM_CRDCRMCLNT050_TRUSTED
and in satellite server (CRD), i deleted following RFC's manually:
    - SM_SMPCLNT050_BACK
    - SM_SMPCLNT050_TRUSTED
Now, when  i checked the RFC destination in SMSY of solution manager server, it is still showing me RFC "SM_SMPCLNT050_BACK". But it is not there in the satellite server as i had deleted it manually.  To verify it, I checked table RFCDES in satellite server and "SM_SMPCLNT050_BACK" RFC is not there in table.
I again re-generated RFC's in SMSY of solution manager server, but got the same error ""You cannot log on (CUA System assignment missing)" for SM_SMPCLNT050_BACK.
So we are getting two problem for same process:
    - You cannot log on (CUA System assignment missing)
    - I deleted RFC " SM_SMPCLNT050_BACK"  manually  in the satellite server but SMSY still showing it in "Clean  up RFC windows".
Not sure if both problems are related to each other. Pls guide to solve these issue's.
    Thanks

    Thanks Sunny
Your suggestion help me to fix one problem. "You cannot log on (CUA System assignment missing)" problem is fixed.
Authorization in SOLMAN system was missing for user ID that is being used in the "SM_SMPCLNT050_BACK" of the satellite server. There was no authorization profile assigned to User. This  is strange.
Process (SMSY) should have created user ID and assigned required authorization profile to the User ID but it did not happened properly.User ID was created but no auth profile was assigned.
I'm facing the same problem is other server also. User ID has been created but auth profiles are missing for user ID that is being used in "SM_SMPCLNT050_BACK" of the satelliet system.
Our SOLMAN server (SMP) is the CUA Central System. Do i ned to check anything in SOLMAN server for CUA?
Following  detail could be one another reason for the missing authorization profile in User ID:
    - To solve the problem of  "You cannot log on (CUA System assignment missing)" , i  deleted following RFC's using "clean-up RFC" function of SMSy tcode.
    - SM_ERDECCCLNT050_READ
    - SM_ERDECCCCLNT050_TMW
    - SM_ERDECCCLNT050_TRUSTED
and in satellite server (ERD), i deleted following RFC's manually:
    - SM_SMPCLNT050_BACK
    - SM_SMPCLNT050_TRUSTED
but "SM_SMPCLNT050_BACK" was still showing in the RFC destination in SMSY of solution manager server. In 'generate RFC destinations'. I re-generated and process created "SM_SMPCLNT050_BACK" in SM59 of ERD and user ID for this RFC has been created in SOLMAN server without adding any auth profile.
Not sure, if this is the reason. I opened oss message three days ago but still waiting for reply.
    - I'm using my account to generate RFC and i think (as told by security team) that i have all authorization in both server required to generate RFC. I may need to add some more authorization.
Could you pls suggest to fix the problem of "SM_SMPCLNT050_BACK". i would like to know why this RFC is still showing in SMSY even after deleting it manully in SM59 of ERD server.
is it possible if i send you the screenshot of document that i send it to oss for your suggestion. can i hav eyour mail ID?
Thanks a lot for your help again..
    Amar

  • You cannot logon (CUA system assignment missing)

I request the access to HU2,... systems, but when I tried to logon via GUI, got the error message - You Cannot logon (CUA system assignment missing).
I tried Web GUI, it tells me that user name and password not valid,...
    Any clue?
    Thanks,
    Andrew

    Dear Andrew!
Sorry for delay reply, I hope your problem has been solved till now. Anyhow my reply may help to other guys.
Sometime this error will appear after System copy/migration or technical upgrade.
Suppose that xyz user face an error "You cannot logon (CUA system assignment missing)" during login attempt after system copy/migration or system upgrade.
    Solution:
Login as sap* user and reset xyz user password in su01. New password length of xyz should be at least 14 to 15 characters. If you are unable to login as sap* then reset sap* user with database utility in usr02 table and remove parameter u201Clogin/no_automatic_user_sapstaru201D from profile if active. Login as xyz user and insert new password with any length at new password windows.
After successful login of xyz user, do the same practice for all users who are facing the same problem.
    Regards.
    Yasir.

  • Satellite A660 Win7 action centre - Power management system is missing driver

I replaced the battery on my A660-15J Toshiba laptop a few months back with the high capacity battery and now the win 7 action center keeps popping up with the message that I need to download and install the missing power management system driver.
The power supply was not replaced at all, nothing has changed, other than the battery.
The charge light on the laptop functions as it did before the battery change.
It comes on and is red, and after a couple of hours it goes white and the battery level shows it is at 100%
The problem is that windows 7 action center says that it is missing an ACER driver??? -> WTF???
The link that it gives to download it from DOES NOT WORK
It seems strange to me that the link that windows provides its to an acer website, but since manufacturers use parts from others manufacturers it does not surprise me at all.
I just want clarification and confirmation of what I need to do here, and why the toshiba service center is not showing this update???
I read that BIOS update can resolve this issue, however there is NO bios update for my laptop.
I have also contacted MICRO$OFT but I'm still awaiting a reply from them.
I have also read other posts on various toshiba forums that relate to this same problem but they usually say that model is not supported by toshiba in that country....
I clicked the link to this forum directly from the Toshiba Australia website, so please don't tell me that my model is not supported on this Toshiba Europe forum!
    The exact message:
Download and install the driver for your power management system
Your power management system is missing a driver.
Follow these steps to solve this problem:
Tap or click to download the driver from the A+c+e+r Corporation website
Download and extract the driver files
Tap or click Save or Save as, and then save the file to your desktop. If you cant choose where to save the file, youll need to find it and copy it to your desktop. When you download files, most web browsers save them to the Downloads folder on your computer.

    > I replaced the battery on my A660-15J Toshiba laptop a few months back with the high capacity battery and now the win 7 action center keeps popping up with the message that I need to download and install the missing power management system driver.
Possibly this is the problem. Is the new battery fully compatible?
Satellite A660/15J is an Australian notebook model.
Here I found some accessories for this model:
    http://www.mytoshiba.com.au/products/computers/satellite/a660/psaw3a-15j06t/accessories
    The compatible battery are:
    Toshiba Battery Pack (12 Cell / 9000mAh / Li-Ion / 10.8V) PA3819U-1BRS
    Toshiba Battery Pack (6 Cell / 5600mAh / Li-Ion / 10.8V) PA3818U-1BRS

  • Backup error due to System Writer missing (enumeration of system32 printer dlls takes too long)

    Hi,
On a Windows 2008 R2 we get a Windows Backup error while backupping System State (event id: 5, error code: '2155347997').
We tried *ALL* solutions found on Internet regarding the same issue (and we also applied the suggested hotfix KB2807849) but without success. So we DIGGED INTO VSS to see what is happening.
***1) First we saw that an USB printer had a problem and this resulted in
hundreds of entries in the following registry keys:
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StillImage\DeviceNameStore\Canon MF6500 Series #100010]
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StillImage\DeviceNameStore\Canon MF6500 Series #100011]
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StillImage\DeviceNameStore\Canon MF6500 Series #100012]
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StillImage\DeviceNameStore\{6BDD1FC6-810F-11D0-BEC7-08002BE2092F}\79590]
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StillImage\DeviceNameStore\{6BDD1FC6-810F-11D0-BEC7-08002BE2092F}\79591]
***2) We completely removed ALL drivers/devices related to that printer (now the DeviceNameStore is empty and
pnputil -e returns no driver related to the printer)
***3) Using process monitor we saw that during vssadmin list writers the system is searching for the DLLs related to that printer AND SEEMS CAUGHT IN AN ENDLESS LOOP: this is an excerpt of the scan:
    09:56:34,5205954    svchost.exe    324    RegSetValue    HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\services\VSS\Diag\System Writer\IDENTIFY (Enter)    SUCCESS

    ... and so on
.... THE SAME FILES ARE REPEATED HUNDREDS OF TIMES!!!! ...
It seems that somewhere there is a catalog of system files which still contains the references to the (same) files used by the hundreds of devices that WERE present in the DeviceNameStore (see point ***1 above, but now it is empty),  and the System
Writer continues to search/enumerate those files and fails.
How can I fix it ? Is there a way to "reset" the System Writer and "rebuild" (???) the correct files that it should backup? (in order to complete a successfull system state backup)
    Can you help me?
    Thank you in advance.
    EDIT: some additional (useful?) information:
    * we also ran chkdsk /f C:
    * sfc /scannow completes without errors
    * in the vssadmin list writers the "system writer" is missing (but - as said above - when we run it the associated process repeatedly search printer dll files in the System32 directory)
    * perhaps those file are contained is some filemaps catalog ?!? Is there a way to "reset" them?!?
    ***EDIT 2***:
I found that the reference to those missing DLLs are in ***C:\Windows\inf\setupapi.ev3*** but if I move the file away the System Writer continues not being listed in vssadmin list writer (though the vssadmin command complete very fast).

... !!!!!GET CAUGHT IN AN ENDLESS LOOP!!!!!!!! (System Writer probably ends for timeout)...
Is there a way to rebuild/modify that file C:\Windows\inf\setupapi.ev3
Perhaps I can delete the catroot2 directory?

    Hi,
Please check if there are number of files in Temporary ASP.NET folders under "C:\Windows\Microsoft.Net\Framework". If so, clear these files then restart the server to check the results.
In additional, you could try the steps below to troubleshoot the issue:
    1. Give NETWORK SERVICE Read permissions on COM+ Event System.
    a. Open the registry editor and navigate to HKLM\CurrentControlSet\Services\EventSystem.
    b. Right click on the EventSystem and then select ‘Permissions’
    c. Click on ‘ADD’ button and then type in ‘NETWORK SERVICE’ and give it READ permission.
    d. Reboot the machine and then run the 'VSS admin list writers' to check if it shows up the 'system writer'.
    2. If the step 1 doesn't work then move the contents of C:\Windows\winsxs\FileMaps to an alternate location. Then run the command 'VSS admin list writers' to check if it shows up the 'system writer'.  Is so, some of those files maybe corrupted and we
need to identify them and replace the files from a healthy machine.

  • MBAM System Administrators - Missing Manage TPM and Drive Recovery option - MBAM 2.5

I have installed MBAM 2.5 in a 3 server environment. Every thing is working fine and validated the installation.
But what I have found that the drive recovery tab and Manage TPM is missing for the users member of MBAM System administrators. As there are many changes that comes with MBAM 2.5 and one is exclusion of MBAM local groups.
Everything is perfect for the Advanced Helpdesk and Helpdesk users.
    Gaurav Ranjan

    Hi Gaurav,
As you mentioned, there are no local groups anymore.  During configuration of the Admin portal, you specify AD groups for administration.  We removed the System administrators group because it was kind of redundant.  You could get the same
effect by adding the user to the Advanced Helpdesk and Reporting Users AD groups you specify.  So, if you add whatever user you wanted to be the "system administrator" for MBAM to both of those AD groups, that should solve your problem.  Note you
may have to log out of your machine and back in after adding them to the group so that they get the token, as with any AD group addition.

  • 2012R2 server System writer missing in the vssadmin list writers

    Hi,
I have some problem with a brand new 2012R2 standard server.
we were able to backup the server from the beginning without problems with the built-in windows backup application.
After installing Solarwinds and SQL server on it, now we have this error in the event logs if we try to backup system state:
The operation ended before completion. Detailed error: The system writer is not found in the backup.
If I check the VSSAdmin list writers, system writer is missing.
We also have this error in the event logs :
Cryptographic Services failed while processing the OnIdentity() call in the System Writer Object.
    Details:
AddWin32ServiceFiles: EnumServicesStatusEx API for service enumeration failed
    System Error:
    The data is invalid.
I did not find anything on the AddWin32ServiceFiles: EnumServicesStatusEx API... and the problem for the system writer seems to start from this error.
    Anyone have an idea ?
    thanks
    Benoit

    Hi Benoit,
As the error mentioned Cryptographic Service, please try to restart that service to see if it will help. In fact, system writer is registered in Cryptographic Service.
    • Any errors on system/application log?
    • Run vssadmin list writers again to see if you can find System Writer?
If no system writer, try to run the command in command prompt:
    SC.EXE SDSHOW EVENTSYETEM
    • If the output is like below, that means it is missing the Service Logon User (missing the entry (A;;CCLCSWLOCRRC;;;SU) )
    D:(A;;CCLCSWRPWPDTLOCRRC;;;SY)(A;;CCDCLCSWRPWPDTLOCRSDRCWDWO;;;BA)(A;;CCLCSWLOCRRC;;;IU)S:(AU;FA;CCDCLCSWRPWPDTLOCRSDRCWDWO;;;WD)
    • Then you can reset the eventsystem permission:
    Sc.exe sdset eventsystem D:(A;;CCLCSWRPWPDTLOCRRC;;;SY)(A;;CCDCLCSWRPWPDTLOCRSDRCWDWO;;;BA)(A;;CCLCSWLOCRRC;;;IU)(A;;CCLCSWLOCRRC;;;SU)S:(AU;FA;CCDCLCSWRPWPDTLOCRSDRCWDWO;;;WD)
    • Restart both the COM+ Event System and Cryptographic Services
    • Run VSSADMIN LIST WRITERS again and see if system writer is back.
NOTEs:If the problem on your side is indeed related to service permission, you can check the GPO setting on your side to see if there is any change on the COM+ Event System Service.
If the system writer is back, please test if backup function is back to work.

  • System Profiler Missing

    Hi
I was recently trying to go on PhotoBooth and it said no camera connected i tried to look for help and everything said to use system profiler.
I know that it is in the utilities folder but its missing im not sure what happened i hvae never touched any folders that i dont know are about.
If you know a solution please help.
    Thankyou.

If it's a current Mac with a recent version of OS X, there is no System Profiler.
System Profiler is now known as System Information. It's the System Information utility that will now open up when you click More Info in About This Mac.
Information referring to "System Profiler" might be contained in out-of-date documentation, unless it really is referring to older versions of OS X back when it was still called System Profiler.

  • SYSTEM WRITER MISSING WIN SERVER 2012

    Hi,
I have installed win server 2012. On that server i have sql 2012 and sharepoint 2013. After a while my windows server backup stops working and system writer is missing now. I found that problem might be in subfolders in MICROSOFT.NET folder. It has more
than 1000 subfolders in GAC_MSIL folder. Is this really true that system writer can't enumerate more than 1000 folders and that I cant have sharepoint 2013 and sql server 2012 installed on same server. Is there a solution which can fix this or I can have all
    of that on one server?
Hope that someone can help with this.

It seems to be a known issue, some other Technet forum users have experienced the same problem.
Check this post and see the solution.
Missing VSS System Writer and CAPI2 error in Event Log
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winserverfiles/thread/4458947a-623e-45c1-b8e4-868aad1e93b0
I've got this problem about a month ago. I refer to MSP.
The problem was caused due to stack full. When we list system writer using “vssadmin list writers”, it will go through all the system files. To do that, the OS use a  search algorithm with a stack which has a size limitation of 1000. When the stack
was full, it failed to continue listing files and log an event in the application event log.
In my case, the following folder contains too many subdirectory and caused the problem.
    C:\Windows\Microsoft.Net\Framework64\v2.0.50727\Temporary ASP.NET Files\*
    1. Open C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v2.0.50727\CONFIG\Web.config
    2. Add tempDirectory attribute to compilation tag. For example:
    < compilation tempDirectory="c:\ASPTEMP">
And also grant the folder with the same privilege with as “C:\Windows\Microsoft.Net\Framework64\v2.0.50727\Temporary ASP.NET Files”.
    3. Restart the IIS Service.
    4. Backup and delete all files under “C:\Windows\Microsoft.Net\Framework64\v2.0.50727\Temporary ASP.NET Files”.
    5. restart the Cryptographic Service.
    6. Try “vssadmin list writers” again.
Hopes this brings idea for you to solve it.
