Actual BlackBerry Desktop for Macs?

PocketMac simply won't do it. Has anyone heard if RIM is ever going to give Mac users the option of full BlackBerry compatibility?
I love using my BB at work. We did a comparison between BB and iPhone and I actually prefer the BB for how I use the device. However, there is no way the smartphones my family is migrating to are going to be BlackBerries if I have to lug them all to the office and hook them up to a PC to really get the most out of them, just because we are an Apple household.
I don't actually like the idea of going to iPhone by default, but it looks like that's my only good choice unless RIM offers a genuine alternative.

I'm new as a member to this Forum, but I've looked around enough to know there are lots of posts about the frustration of being both a Mac and a Blackberry user.  Mark/Space's Missing Sync is, to my mind, the only mostly-reliable option as far as I can tell.  It has a glitch or two but nothing like the mostly-abominable PocketMac.  Having said that, let me add my own but of frustration.  I've used an 8310 curve (AT&T) for over a year and although I can accept the fact ... I can't quite get my mind around the why of not having a native Mac OSX desktop client.  My biggest irritation is the inability to update the device's OS.  It's inconceivable to me.  This is like a gold-lettered, engraved invitation to switch to an iPhone when it's time to upgrade to a new partly-subsidized-by-the-cellphone-company device.  And if and when somebody comes up with a low-profile, small Blackberry-ish QWERTY keyboard that slides out from underneath the iPhone ... that'll be the ball game as far as I can tell.  I'm not smart enough to know if RIM is losing much market share to Apple, but I would think making a Blackberry work seamlessly on a Mac would be tantamount to an RIM Corporate Red Alert.  Maybe I've drunk too much of the Mac Kool-Aid, but enough is freakin' enough, no?  And if something really IS being developed, can there be anything revealed other than the nebulous phrase "something is being developed"?  I really do feel a loyalty to the Blackberry product ... but I sense that's not a two-way street from the manufacturer.  If my feeling is multiplied by thousands of users, that might be something to pay attention to.

  • Blackberry Desktop for Mac Is Not Complete - Still Have to Use PC Version Sometimes

Blackberry Desktop for Mac is incomplete in this way - if your OS gets wiped out (as it wants to do upon initial install, as it tries to update your BB OS) - and if it gets hung in the process - as happened to me - then the ONLY way to fix is to go BACK to a PC and use the PC version of Blackberry Desktop.
It's incredible, but that is what I learned.  I installed Blackberry Desktop for Mac.  It  wanted to initiate an OS upgrade first thing.  I allowed it to do so and it wiped out the OS on my Blackberry.  Leaving me with a 507 error.  I called Verizon.  They switched me to Blackberry.  Blackberry said I could only get clear of the 507 error by finding a PC - somewhere - and installing Blackberry Desktop for PC on that PC.
Blackberry then switched me back to Verizon, and they said that since I didn't have a PC, they had to send me a new Blackberry - and they had to charge me for it! (They said that the local Verizon store could not repair the OS).
I refused to pay $50+ for a new phone necessitated by the failure of Blackberry Desktop for Mac to be able to deal with a 507 error.  I spoke to Blackberry Support, again (this was about a 6 hour process), and they admitted that the provider - Verizon - did not support some sort of feature in the OS initialization process, meaning that Blackberry Dektop for Mac could not be used, one has to use Blackberry Desktop for PC no matter what in some circumstances (such as a 507 error upon OS upgrade).
Blackberry switched me back to Verizon.  This time, Verizon stated that the local Verizon store could upload a new OS.  So I shlepped off to the local Verizon store and, another hour later, they installed the new OS.
Once the new OS was installed, Blackberry Desktop for Mac was able to synch and works just fine (much better than PocketMac).  However, my fear is that when the next OS update comes out, if the same thing happens again (i.e., if the OS update freezes again), I will be left having to either look for a PC somewhere to run Blackberry Desktop for PC, or go to the Verizon store.
So, word to the wise.  Blackberry Desktop for Mac is not complete vis-a-vis Verizon.  It cannot be complete if they tell you that you have to use Blackberry Desktop for PC in certain circumstances.
    Gary

This is often the problem with the new features that Apple implement more and more for each functionalities and moving them to "the cloud" (iCloud).
Thus physically removing the files from the Mac makes the BBDM (logically) unable to sync with no-more existing files on the computer...
This is the case currently for the address book and iCal. I guess that new functionalities in iTunes might have the same effect. Haven't you enabled new features recently in iTunes?
    Like "iTunes match" for example?...

  • Blackberry desktop for Mac and Bold 9900 - extremely slow syncing?

Is it just me or does it take forever just to sync a few changes to photos or music to my Bold 9900 using the Blackberry desktop on mac?   Ok granted the first time I added over 1000 songs, several playlists and about 40 photos from iPhoto via the sync software, it took over 3 hrs to sync.  Personally I find that extremely slow, especially when comparing to my ipad or iphone and itunes syncing.   Today I wanted just to remove one photo album from my phone, so unticked it and resynced again.   Over half an hour before it finished!  The registering media with device step takes a very long time, as does the initial preparation stage......  surely there must be something wrong?
Without the wifi sync feature i can't imagine it being practical just to add one song to my phone through this software before popping out with the phone in the car.... I would need to give myself over 30 minutes in advance.
Any advice or help most appreciated.
    Thanks
    Simon

    Hey midinotes,
Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
It can take quite awhile to synchronize media to your BlackBerry.  Especially with the songs, 1000 songs it is normal to take a few hours.
The easiest way I add music to my BlackBerry is dragging the media files to the media card.  It's a lot quicker.

  • Older versions of the Blackberry Desktop for Mac Software

I have a new 9810 Torch 2 and am running Microsoft Office 2004 on my MacBook Pro.  The latest version dropped the support for Office 2004.  What is the last version that supported Office 2004 and is there an archived version I can get to use my Office 2004 software?

Not sure why you're using 7 year old software and expecting it to work okay.  I'm sure there's a reason they dropped support.  Unfortunately I'm of no use as I don't know where to find their old software.

  • Where can I download Blackberry software for Mac OS 10.5.8

Where can I find a download the Blackberry software for Mac OS 10.5.8? Also what is the higest possible software upgrade for a Blackberry Curve 8530? I recently got this old phone back and I'm trying to see what I should do with it and if its worth keeping.

Hello Professoracex and welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
In order to use the BlackBerry Desktop Software on a Mac computer,  you need OSX 10.6 or later.
As for the latest software version, your mobile carrier decides what versions they will release to support. You can check your mobile carrier's download site here for the latest available version.
    Hope this answers your question.

  • MS Remote Desktop for Mac (v8.0.9 - 8.0.12): issue with "Session (ID #) remote control failed."

    Hello,
I'm a SysAdmin for a small-med business in CO. We use a cluster of 3 RDS servers that are load-balanced with round-robin DNS and an RD Gateway. When I remote in from a PC, all works as expected. However, when I remote in from my MacPro (my main machine at home)
and try to remote control a user's session, I get this error:
Note the ID number is unique to the user's RDP session, so will vary each time.
This is 100% a bug in the "Microsoft Remote Desktop for Mac" program; I am positive of it at this point.
Does anyone from MS actually monitor these threads at all, or am I wasting my time? Thanks...

    Hi,
As this happens with him specific from MRD MAC check whether he is taking RDP with IP address or hostname. Also try to uncheck the Option "Bypass RD Gateway for local address" under RDSH configuration and verify the result.
Also for more detail he can collect log from MAC side by following path.
Microsoft Remote Desktop>About Microsoft Remote Desktop>Send log via email
    Hope it helps!
    Thanks.

  • Firefox desktop for mac does not save history

Using firefox desktop for mac. Recently it stopped saving my history. Forward and back buttons still work, typing something in the address window will make it pull up places I've visited in the past, but only ones I visited two or three weeks ago. Nothing recent. "Show all history" brings up the window, but there is nothing in it."
Private browsing is not enabled. I have enabled "remember my browsing and download history."
Another answer suggested I might have an anti virus or something that is disabling history. I looked, but I don't have anything doing that. Safari and Chrome are both saving their histories normally.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi MistyTom,
The error 13 does look like a permission issue.
Please try logging in as a root user and install the Adobe Creative Cloud application under that account.
You can find details on how to log in as root at OS X Mountain Lion:

  • Viber Desktop for MAC - Exporting chat history

For some reason when I upgraded to the new Viber earlier this month on my iPhone, all of my call and chat history vanished from my phone and I didn't have a chance to export it.
The chat history that got deleted on my iPhone is still visible on my MacBook Air.
My question is, does anyone know how to export chat history from a MAC? I know how to do it from an iPhone, but seeing as the history isn't on the phone I can't export it. I need to do it from the laptop, if possible

  • AOL Desktop for Macs.  Anyone have used it?

G4 Digital Audio Version used; supplied with clean HDD and now upgraded OS 10.4.11
I use AOL as an internet service provider for dial up. Don't knock it, but you can if u want I'm cool with people here. I use the dial up because I use two ISP and attend a university. Because now of the blended and distance use of the computer, the importance of having two Internet Service Providers on dial up is important. You see i can always grab another phone line, but not just another DSL.
America Online offers an AOL desktop for Macs. Advertised as designed by mac users for mac users. Has anybody tried this software that must be downloaded?
Since it says AOL for desktop and to me this means i have to look at junk on my computer screen. Plus my now Mac desktop or the screen display appears very fast, and i like the pretty blue. Does anyone have experience with this AOL Desktop for macs?

    Hi Patrick!
I haven't installed AOL Desktop For Mac yet but I know you can run both that & AOL For Mac OS X Version 10.3.7 simultaneously.
So you could install it to test drive without losing AOL For Mac OS X.
You may get more information on the boards here AOL & Your Mac.
