Actual cause behind iTunes not opening

I’ve figured out what the problem is and why iTunes will not load.
Quicktime issues and error message when opening – “buffer overrun detected”.
This means that the temporary memory (buffer) that Quicktime dumps data into for the CPU to pick up and process is full.
If it is full it cannot be used any further, and Quicktime is unable to function – and because Quicktime is the engine for iTunes, iTunes will not open either.
So I need to know what is causing the buffer for Quicktime to fill up and overrun and remove that cause. I suspect it is either a corruption or malware.
Any ideas?

For those reading this who do not have a QuickTime settings icon visable in their Control Panel window - look to the top left of the Control Panel window and click on Classic View.
The QuickTime icon will be visible.
I did have K-Lite but I installed it as part of WMPod after I had all this palarva, thinking I would then be able to sync via Windows Media Player. Not so, Windows Media Player did not recognise the plug in - did not have it listed in the options windows.
When I double clicked on the QuickTime icon in Control Panel (classic view) I got this message;
An exception occurred while trying to run "C:\WINDOWS\system32\shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL
"C:\WINDOWS\system32\Quicktime.cpl",Quicktime"
I had in fact deleted what I thought were duplicate QT plugins (there were half a dozen in the Programs\Internet Eplorer folder and more in Mozilla).
So I downloaded QuickTime (again) and selected repair once the installation window was up. Double clicked on QuickTime in Control Panel again.
Same message again.

  • "A Fix For iTUNES Not Opening"

Well, after trying to figure out what was going on with iTunes not opening at all. It turns out that by default for some reason Windows Xp Firewall disables it from opening it. iTunes however is acting like a server for the simple fact that you exchange data between your computer and iTunes Store. Since there is no option to force this connection to happen, you have to get ZoneAlarm to do so. I’m using ZoneAlarm Suite Edition, but it also works with the free Edition of ZoneAlarm. So what ZoneAlarm does is actually enables the connection between your computers data (iTunes) and iTunes servers to connect.
So first off make sure that you uninstall any Anti-Virus program so that only ZoneAlarm is installed/Running. Run ZoneAlarm and once that’s achieved you then go ahead and run iTunes. You will then be prompted twice, the first time it will prompt you about itunes.exe running as a program (Click Yes) and the second is very important since this is what enables iTunes to make a forced connection with iTunes servers (Click yes again). Once that’s done, you will see iTunes runs again. You can also uninstall ZoneAlarm and you will see that iTunes will still open even after ZoneAlarm is Uninstalled. I will see if I can make a .reg file so that you don’t have to install ZoneAlarm to make iTunes open again, but then again it wouldn’t hurt having ZoneAlarm installed since ZoneAlarm is a great tool.
Here's A direct link to the Free ZoneAlarm: http://download.zonelabs.com/bin/free/1001cnet_zdnet/zlsSetup_61_737_000en.exe
I’m sure this will work for anyone clicking the iTunes icon and getting nothing after a sec of the hour-glass disappearing and also seeing that iTunes.exe disappears in the Task Manager. So the chances of this working are high and once again since its free it wont hurt to try. Thank you again for your attention. And if anyone needs help let me know, and I would appreciated it if you can leave a reply and let me know how it turned out, weather or not iTunes opened. Thank You.-Michael R.

Just A Correction. In The Line ....The first time it will prompt you about itunes.exe running as a program (Click Yes) and the second is very important since this is what enables iTunes to make a forced connection with iTunes servers (Click yes again)...
Instead of "Click Yes" its supposed to be "Click Allow".

  • Windows 8.1 Computer not recognizing iPhone 5 and iTunes not opening

So i've been having these issues persist since I updated to iOS7 in September. Computer is a MSI GT60 2OD-026US running windows 8, now 8.1.
How this all started in September:
    1. Download iTunes and it sees iPhone, update to iOS7
    2. Everything is all good until it tries to connect to iTunes after extracting the old software, the computer doesn't acknoledge the phone is connected.
    3. Try all usb ports, no luck
    4. update usb drivers, already updated, no help
    5. reinstall itunes, no luck
    6. itunes starts to not open, its running in the task manager but no window shows up, even after ending the task and relaunching
    7. uninstall itunes and reinstall on the OS drive, now it works, but still wont see iphone.
    8. temporary fix found, iphone successfully restores on a different computer and all is good for a while
    Second problem:
    1. try to sync new CD onto iPhone, when suddenly I have over have my phone filled with "other" data
    2. restore to clear "other" data
    3. computer again wont recognize it after extracting the software
    4. again use temporary fix of going to another computer
    Today:
    1. got a lot of new non itunes music, going to sync it
    2. uh oh, I have duplicate songs on it and lots of the album artwork is wrong
    3. woah, suddenly I have 5 gb of "other" data, lets restart for a clean slate
    4. and like clockwork my computer doesn't recognize it after software extraction, get 4005 error message
    5. reinstall itunes and itunes refuses to open because I moved it back to my 1TB drive instead of my 128GB SSD OS drive because it was getting rather full.
    5. iTunes again will not open, even in safe mode but again shows up in the taskbar
I've looked at many threads similar to this and no solution has worked.
Have any ideas? or should I just bring my computer into the apple store?

I have stated every issue I’ve had so far in a fairly clear and concise way. I think if you read what I wrote, it all makes logical sense as to what is going on. Windows 7/8 would work just as well on a Mac if it was supported the same way the OS is for other OEMs.
As I stated earlier in the post, I’m having these same issues in windows 8, not just 8.1, which is the reason for the post. I know the difference between supported by drivers and not supported by the manufacturer. The fact that when Haswell mbp’s came out and no revision to bootcamp for the new hardware was released to fix issues with installing windows on the new hardware shows Apple clearly Is not supporting bootcamp as strongly as they advertise.
I am being realistic on Apple having drivers early. Anyone with an MSDN subscription can download the RELEASE version of windows months ahead of the actual release, I’m 100% sure if any average consumer can do that by paying $100 and saying they are a developer, apple can do it just as easily.
You aren’t much help, you haven’t answered really anything to my post, nor have you contributed any knowledge that wasn’t clearly posted above, so don’t say anything if you don’t have anything to contribute.
By the way, my rant is directed at apple, as you can see because I am saying “Apple, if you are going to…” because this is an Apple forum on Apple’s website. It is not directed to end users, clearly.

  • Itunes not opening on windows 8

Recently i just bought the Ipodtouch 4g like today and to have it work i have to connect it into itunes. I have itunes already installed into my laptop and has worked properly before, but it has choosen today to just not choose to open. There is no error message, just a few miliseconds of it loading and just completely not opening. I went over to the program to install it, clicked repair because it seemed about right to do so and after wait a good amount of time and finally clicking finish it still didn't work.
After deciding that the itunes i have installed didn't work i went to the apple store to download it again. After another good amount of time the new itunes program (which looks slightly different then the one i had before with a silver plating) finished downloading. I agreed to the terms and conditions and waited, it still didn't load up and acts the same way as the old one. I need some help with this cause i didn't buy my new ipod touch just to look at it

There is no error message, just a few miliseconds of it loading and just completely not opening.
Can you check something for me please?
Restart your PC. after the PC restarts, bring up your Task manager, and go to the "Processes" tab. Click "Image name" to sort the processes alphabetically.
    Now try to launch iTunes.
Does an itunes.exe process appear? If so, does it vanish after a second or so, or does it persist in the Processes tab (even though iTunes itself never shows up)?

  • ITunes not opening up after upgrade to 11.4 on Snow Leopard

    Hi Guys,
I recently upgraded my iTunes version to v11.4 after which it is not opening up?
When clicked, it just bounces in the Dock like any other App and thats it - it never opens up and not even its Menu group is displayed. Any ideas? I'm sure its a known issue but unable to figure out yet and not able to find any related posts too.
I use OSX Snow Leopard 10.6.8 on a MacBook Pro 5,4 Model.
    Thanks,
    Sanditude.

I had actually tried all that and ensured its the same App in the Dock. Have also ensured I have the latest Apple updates installed for Snow Leopard.
Can't think of any other problems at the moment. Any ideas?
    Many thanks,

  • ITunes not opening and not on the program list to uninstall

iTunes will not open at all.  I am not getting any error messages.  I see iTunes in the program list but clicking on it does absolutely nothing other than an hourglass for a second or 2.  Then I was thinking to uninstall and reinstall iTunes but it is not in my uninstall program list at all.  Not sure what to do at all.  Does anyone know how to fix either of these issues?  I am using Windows 7.

  • My itunes not opening at all

My itunes is not opening at all. As a result I can not communicate with my ipod. My Windows Media Player is running well and all the other programs on my computer are fine. If I try to open it, it says 'itunes has encountered a problem and is closing'. It will not even show a fragment of the itunes page. If I try to open Quick time , it says 'an exception occured while trying to run shell32.dll, Control_RunDLL'. I have tried to uninstal itunes or re-instal it and it refuse after going 70% of the way. Also Quick Time refuses to unistal.

    Hope

hmmm...i see a few potential problems. First, Try downloading the Quicktime standalone player and prior to do this, TURN OFF your Antivirus and Spyware programs. Find the Quicktime Standalone player here: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
If this just randomly happened one day where iTunes would not just open up, its very possible your PC has been infested by the Qoologic adware program that causes this errorless crash of iTunes. There is a free program that has been catching it. Find it here: http://www.ewido.net/en/
    Post back with your progress.

  • ITunes not opening automatically

iTunes are not opening automatcially while I connect my iPhone?

When connecting my iPhone, iTunes does not always open automatically. My preferences in iTunes are set to open automatically (under summary>options) and the choice to disable automatic syncing (iTunes prefs>Devices) is not checked. Any ideas as to what else can cause this conflict?
It should. Make sure the iTunesHelper application is in your list of Login Items (System Preferences > Accounts > Login Items). You may need to remove and reinstall the Apple Mobile Device Service:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1747
Also, is there anyway to set iPhoto to not open automatically when connecting an iPhone, yet to open automatically when connecting a digital camera? Seems like Apple could make iPhoto smart enough to know the difference.
It seems that way, but it's not the case. It's an all-or-none thing, unfortunately.
You can submit feedback to Apple: http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

  • ITunes not opening and ideas?

I have just bought a 2nd Gen iPod Touch when I connect it to my macbook pro iTunes does not open nothing opens, when I connect my old iPod touch it opens iTunes automatically any ideas guys?

... I wonder if this is the same issue that Benji had?
Usually what I'm going to check on causes launch error messages on XP for both iTunes and QuickTime. But the symptoms may have changed a bit in recent times. (Like, today.)
Sometimes, packages other than QuickTime itself will stash old quicktime componentry down in your system files. (Codec packs and video converters are the main culprits, but some older games might do it too.) If there's a version number mismatch between the old stuff in your system files and the regular program files both iTunes and the QuickTime Player can fail to launch.
So we'll go looking for older QuickTime componentry in the most common locations for it to be stashed.
First we'll need to change some view options on the PC.
    1. Open My Computer from the desktop or Start menu.
    2. In the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
    3. Click the View tab.
    4. In the "Advanced settings" pane under "Hidden files and folders" make sure that the "Show hidden files and folders" option is selected, and the "Hide extensions for known file types" option is unchecked.
    5. Click OK.
Now in My Computer, open your C drive.
    Open the "Windows" folder.
    Open the "system32" folder.
What files and/or folders can you see in there with QuickTime in the file/folder name? (In a standard installation of QuickTime, you should see precisely two files ... QuickTime.qts and QuickTimeVR.qtx ... and no QuickTime folders whatsoever.)

  • Itunes not opening properly

for the past 2 months whenever i open my iTunes it opens, however not properly. I am able to see all of my songs in my library but the actual menu does not appear. I have tried reinstalling itunes multiple times as well as reinstalling quicktime. I have no idea what else to try please help!

Under normal circumstances, an uninstall/reinstall doesn't touch your content.
But before trying that, let's instead try updating to version 11.1.5.5 using an iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe) installer file downloaded from the Apple website:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
    Does that go through okay?

<The iTunes application could not be opened. There is not enough memory available.>
I have checked that all other software is closed. So I am sure that I have much of my 768Mb RAM free .
Before downloading 7.1.1 everything was o.k.

I also have the same problem with iTunes since I upgraded to Leopard. When I try to activate iTunes, the icon indicates that iTunes is running, but the program does not open. When I try to force it to shut down, nothing happens, except an error report, while the the icon still indicates that it is running. Even trying to uninstall iTunes while it stops running is not possible.
I already deleted all plugins that may cause the problems, I do not have Shapeshifter and I also renewed permissions, but still no difference.
    Any help?

  • Itunes not opening when i plug ipod in

When I plug in my 4G iPod touch, my MacBook (OS X 10.6.8) charges the iPod but iTunes will not open.  The iPod does not even show up in iTunes.  I have the latest version of iTunes.  I've tried using a different USB port, a different iPod cord, deleting iTunes and reinstalling iTunes, tried rebooting Mac and iPod, tried resetting iPod.  I really don't want to erase what is on my iPod because if iTunes still doesn't recognize it, I will lose everything.  Any ideas?
