Gracias.

I'm using ios5 in iphone4, but the 'other' capacity in itunes is keeping increasing every time after sync the iphone4 from PC, now the 'orther' usage is 0.64G.

You are of course deleting the tunes from within the iTunes interface.
The settings that I am referring to are your device settings for the iPad. It should show in the left column of iTunes when your iPad is plugged in.
Go through your playlists and make sure that the tunes(s) are removed from any playlist. You can prevent the sync as noted above then do a sync and the iPad should update with the content from you Mac.

My old hard drive crashed and had to get it replaced. How do I reinstall my old library to the new hard drive from my iphone4s so I don't lose my music?

Officially you don't. Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was planned with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchases which can be transferred to a computer.
Note: The information below hasn't been updated since early 2013.

  • Uninstall & install iOS5 on iPhone4

I have an iPhone4 having size of 8GB. When I connect iPhone to iTunes, It shows me total space 6.37 GB.
Q.1 ) If apple says 8GB, where is the remaining space then ? It should specify somewhere that 1.73 GB being used by iOS system. Why is not specified anywhere ?
Q.2 ) My iPhone shows 2.3GB space as OTHERS ! I don't understand this others space & apple has not specified what OTHERS mean !
Q.3 ) Is there a way to clean up OTHERS space ?
I tried many different ways, I removed all of my audio/sounds from my iPhone & synced.
I removed my MAIL account associations & I removed most of the apps from my iPhone to recover the Space.
But OTHERS is yet allocated to 2.3 GB. very ****** & iOS itself taking 1.73 GB
So, this way, Half of the iPhone memory is being used somehow without my knowledge.
I am allowed to use only 4GB of my iPhone. Why the h--l is this ? I feel pretty bad about this.
I am wondering, If I remove entire iOS5 & install iOS5 on my iPhone4 again, that should work.
I have an iPhone4 which is Factory UNLOCK piece. Neither jailbroken nor unlocked by any illegal activities.
My iPhone is PURE phone as Apple gave to me. ( Virgin one )
Q.4 ) How do I completly clean up my iPhone ( As I do system Format on my PC ) ?
    Q.5 ) How do I re-install iOS5 ? ( Please I don't need any updates here. I am very much happy with iOS5 only )
    Eagerly waiting for replies.
    Hoping for favorable response.
    Thanking you all in advance.

Protip: Storage capacity in technology always refers to the actual unformatted/raw capacity. Actual formatted capacity will decrease storage space differently depending on the file system.
Even on bandwidth and net speeds advertised by ISPs or carriers, they usually are theoretical speeds that exclude all sorts of real world variables.
    Back on topic:
The iOS partition is approximately 1.1GB on an iPhone 4. (8GB-1.1GB) I've got an iPhone 4.
Let's assume the disk format is eating 400MB. (6.9GB-400MB =6.5GB)
iOS settings/user profile data/ and other misc data usually accumulates on the phone at 30-80MB if it's healthy. Let's take the raw figure before installation of any apps as 6.3GB. So it's fair.
On your other point, excessive other data is usually a result of incomplete installation of apps that are not purged out of the storage, you can call it a bug.
Sometimes "Others" can be ridded through
    Restarting the phone.
    Installing another iOS app.
Syncing with its host computer probably up to 10 times.
If nothing works, it's unfortunate that your computer backup file might have also stored the "Other" junk as part of your data.
To start afresh, here's a discussion which probably will help.
In the future, if you're installing an app, try to download an app only when you're at a stable connection to prevent recreation of "other" junk.
"Other" data (iPhone) - How do I remove this junk?

So I just updated the operating system on my iphone4 to iOS5. Now I cant send email. I can receive email, just cant send. Have tried all the usual remedies such as re-booting, setting up the email account again, changing the outgoing mail server port from 25 to 225 etc. Anyone got any other bright suggestions?

  • IOS5 on iPhone4 (Not S)

As we all know at this time the current iPhone build for Verizon phones is 4.2.10.  We were never given the opportunity for 4.3 which included better AirPlay, Faster Safari, and other features.
My question and I hope a Verizon Rep will answer this.... On October 12th, will we be able through iTunes to upgrade our phones to iOS5?
I know that in the past Verizon Wireless has Handcuffed it's customers with outdated equipment.  For example as of now the Verizon iPhones have outdated software as we are not available to upgrade to 4.3.
    Looking forward to thoughts.
    Thanks,
    D

While I appreciate your comments, I have been told by people in Verizon and the cellular industry that It's actually Verizon who holds these things up because of not wanting to pay the manufactuers for the upgrades.  I don't believe that Apple will want to shoot themselves in the foot and not launch an update.  Do you know that Verizon iphones are the only devices that have not received 4.3?  Sorry I'm just not buying it, but I guess I'll have to wait until the 12th to get my answer.
    Blessings,
Verizon iPhones are CDMA. Apple clearly stated prior to iOS 4.3 release that the it was for iPhone 4 GSM. Prior to 4.3, GSM customers complained because VZW had what they perceived to be a better iOS update...so at that time they claimed they were being mistreated despite feeling like they deserved more for being iPhone owners first. Also, what makes you think that Verizon or Apple pay Apple each time they release an update? Not sure if you paid attention back when they first started providing iOS updates but Apple (not AT&T) charged customers to upgrade to the newest iOS on some devices. This didn't go over well so they scrapped that idea. If any of the carriers were forced to pay each time Apple updated iOS you have to know that they would charge us for it to get it. Aside from us paying our monthly bills the carriers don't get extra money from us for using the device...why would they be willing to pay Apple for every update? Keep in mind that there are several mini-updates between major iOS jumps (how many did iOS 4 have? Including the CDMA updates...yes, we never got 4.3 and yes we never got some of the features, but we did get updates...regardless of how disappointing they may have been). Remember, despite being spoiled into thinking we are all owed updates to our devices we aren't. Once upon a time getting an update didn't happen. Your update was received when you purchased the newest device with the newest features.
Anyway, people will argue this forever. As mentioned, if you REALLY want the most accurate answer contact the source that can give it. Apple. Not sure why so many seem to be resistant to doing that. Apple will give you answers for announced products with announced release dates. It's the stuff that they haven't announced that they are closed mouth about. Otherwise, wait it out. It's only a week away.

  • TS3999 Is there a calendar app that actually works on the iphone4?

Everything ties to iCalendar which never works.  I have been unable to fund an app that is independent of iCal and it would be nice to have a calendar app that actually works.  If I have try and un-install then re-stall one more time, I'm going to scream!

It never opens.  there is no way to delete and re-install it.  The general trouble shooting tips rarely work.
If I use another calendar app it won't open if iCal won't open.

  • Intermittent music dropout using airplay on ios5 and iPhone4

    Hi!
After updating to iOS5 on my iPhone 4 I get 5sec dropouts in the music when trying to play, using airplay through my Airport Express. It's almost always 5sec drops and then music returns again, sometimes it appears that the drop of music is permanent until I jogg the iPhone by unlocking it and entering the Music Player. This problem does not occur when I play same music from my Macbook using the same Airport Express.

    ...a little more experimentation...
I booted the MBP 15 (Spring 2011) from an external backup of Lion (made immediately prior to switching to ML).  When I turn off the Server Firewall then I can iTunes Airplay to both the Apple TV as well as to the Airport Express.  But when I turn on the Server Firewall, even after allowing ports 3689, 42000-42999 both TCP and UDP, the Airplay does not work.  I could not determine which ports were needed for iTunes Airplay, all I could figure out is that when the Server Firewall is off then iTunes Airplay works but when the Server Firewall is on then iTunes Airplay does not work.  I tried logging all denied packets, but to no avail, I still could not determine which ones were being denied.
Interestingly, when I turn off the Server Firewall and switch on the System Preference Security pane Firewall, I can still iTunes Airplay to both the ATV and AX.  It makes me wonder if when I switched to ML from Lion that some ipfw rules were not left over from the Lion Server Firewall that then keeps ML from allowing iTunes Airplay to work.  (I wonder if I restore my Lion Server, then switch off the Lion Server Firewall, then download and install ML once again, then download and install OS X Server once again, whether the iTunes Airplay would then work?  Maybe when I have some more time I'll try this, in the meantime I'm going to try a little harder to figure out why the Lion Server Firewall stops iTunes Airplay from working.  Dang nabbit, even "ipfw show" does not tell me which packets are being denied when the Server Firewall is ON and iTunes Airplay does not work...does anyone have any suggestions on how to figure out why the Server Firewall is stopping iTunes Airplay from working?)
    Thanks,
    Switon

  • Work Email Not Working Since Updated to iOS5 on iPhone4

Just updated my iphone4 to iOS 5 but my work email is no longer syncing properly.  It shows all old emails prior to update and sync but nothing new since.  Suggestions?

I'm assuming that by "outlook server" you mean a Microsoft Exchange Server?
If so and it's Exchange 2010 can you browse to OMA or OWA on it with the phone browser?
In my case(I'm the Network Engineer where I work so I have some experience with this)the URL is:
    http://mail.companyname.com/owa or http://mail.companyname.com/OMA.
If that doesn't work try this, on a computer at which you can access the OWA site click on Option(under your name on the upper right hand side) Then when the screen changes you should see 'Phone' listed under accounts on the left. Click on Phone and in the main body area of the page it will list all the phones that you've connected with. If there are any outdated ones there, delete them. Also, do you see a connection attempt for your current phone there? FYI the reason I'm reccomending this is that Exchange, depending on how it is configured, could see your phone as a different device with the OS change.

  • Duplicate Photo Stream albums - iOS5 on iPhone4

    Hi,
I'm up to 3 duplicate photostream entries in the Photos app, none of which seem to be updated when I take pictures on my iPhone4.
Here's the sequence of events which I believe led to this problem:
    - When initially setting up the iOS 5 update on my iPhone4, I created an icloud account with my AppleID
    - At this point I believe I had one Photo Stream entry
    - Next, I deleted that iCloud account from the phone through Settings->iCloud->Delete Account, so that I could switch my iCloud account to be the AppleID I use for iTunes.
    - I logged in to Settings->iCloud with my iTunes AppleId, merged contacts, allowed Find My IPhone, and finally switched on PhotoStream
    - I believe this is when I saw the first duplicate.
    - In the time since, trying to find a solution, I came across this post: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1247067
    - Unfortunately, turning photostream off of the current iCloud account on the phone, and then deleting it from the phone, did NOT delete one of the duplicate Photo Stream albums.
    - What's worse is logging back into Settings->iCloud on the phone, seems to have created yet another duplicate (for 3 total).
I'm really stuck here, and considering doing a full restore from my last itunes backup.
Thanks for any help you can provide!
    Jon

Yes I did.  After it synced my iphone said there were 244 photos that could not be synced and to see Itunes for more information which Itunes did not give me any more information. I don't know if this has anything to do with this or not. I have now gone back to Itunes and selected all the folders I wanted to keep and deselected all the ones I did not want to keep.  It has now synced every pic that was on my computer but the good news is the videos are now gone.  Which is what I really wanted.  I now understand how the videos got on my iphone in the first place.  It copied them from my computer.  Thanks for all your help. I couldn't have done it without you.
