  • Windows 10 killed my Thinkpad Yoga 14's keyboard

    That's good to hear.
At this point, how these legacyish and low-level BIOS updaters interact with the brand-new and really different Windows 10 is unknown. That and especially in cases where Windows is buggy or unstable, it's safer to use a bootable option.

Did you update your BIOS before upgrading to Windows 10? There's an entry that vaguely says "Core update to supprot windows 10."
    http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-yoga-series-laptops/thinkpad-yoga-14/downloads/ds101225
At this point, I'd recommend using the bootable ISO instead of flashing from within Windows:

Which you should be able to put on a flash drive instead:

  • Clean reinstall Windows 8.1 on Thinkpad Yoga

    Hello,
I have been having a large amount of trouble with my Thinkpad Yoga in that I have not been able to access the majority of the applications for a while.  I have tried solving the problem, however after a number of failed attempts, I decided I would rather get rid of the bloatware anyway and do a clean re-install.
However, I am unable to perform a clean reinstall as no media came with my purchase.  Where can I get a copy of windows 8.1 to perform a clean reinstall?

I would think the described methodology to create recovery media and reload a Lenovo Think system with Microsoft Windows 8 preload is clear enough?

  • Yoga 3 pro installing Windows 8.1 Pro

    Hi Everybody,
Currently we are looking for some alternative for heavy H... Elite solutions for our mobile workers. We were interested in Yoga 3 PRO until I noticed that it is NOT distributed with Windows 8.1 PRO. The question is whether anybody did install SUCCESFULLY a Windows 8.1 PRO on Yoga 3 PRO? What are the steps to be taken to install WIndows 8.1 PRO? Will I lose any of functionalities because of lack of drivers for Win 8.1 PRO? I'm still surprised that it is not sold with Win 8.1 PRO since on main lenovo.com you can find 'supported OS Up to Win 8.1 PRO'.
Thank you in advance for any answer.
    Petek

Hi patton2, and welcome to the Lenovo User Community!
The Yoga 3 Pro IS supported and distributed with Windows 8.1 PRO. Not on lenovo.com at the moment, but available through resellers in the US. I don't know what the situation in Poland is - I suggest calling Lenovo direct.
The PSREF shows North America model numbers: http://psref.lenovo.com/Product/97.
Do come and tell us how your thinking for use by mobile workers goes!

  • ThinkPad Yoga S1 - Windows 10 unknown device

I did a clean installation of Windows 10 on my ThinkPad Yoga S1. After onstalling all drivers I still get followig device missing in device manager:
Unknown Device:Device Type: other devicesManufacturer: unknownPlace: Synaptics SMBus Driver I already installed Synaptics ThinkPad UltraNav Driver 19.0.12.61 from 7/30/2015, so this does not change anything here. What driver is missing and can Lenovo provide it soon?

Also have an S1 with non-functioning palm rejection. The pen worked earlier, but now it no longer functions. It works in that it can calibrate itself in Wacom Pen settings, but otherwise refuses to register. UPDATE: restoring default settings under Wacom Pen settings has reenabled the pen and palm rejection appears to work again. Note: I installed recent Wacom FEEL drivers, which are the drivers that work with this model, among other tablet PCs with Wacom tech.

  • [New Thinkpad Yoga 12 2015] enable Hyper-V feature on Windows 8.1 pro

    Hello,
i am a french customer, and i am very interested in the New Thinkpad Yoga 12 2015, especially the version available with  Windows 8.1 Pro. and processor Intel Core i7-5500U.
As an IT expert in Database technonlogies, i used to create virtual machines with the 'Hyper-V client' feature available in Windows 8.1 Pro.
    - I saw that the Intel Core i7-5500U processor is compatible with the Intel VT-x and EPT virtualization technologies.
    - i saw that the Bios menu offers to enable/disable 2 virtualization parameters (link : http://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/yoga_12_ug_en.pdf)
Do you know if the New Thinkpad Yoga 12 allows to enable the 'Hyper-V client' feature under Windows 8.1 Pro ?
It is very important for me to have this information, because a computer without the 'Hyper-V client'  is not usefull for me
So before buying this computer, i have to be sure that it will be able to enable the 'Hyper-V client'.
Thanks a lot for tour reply

    Good day.

  • Thinkpad Tablet 2 issues with installing Windows 8.1 Pro

I have a Thinkpad Tablet 2 and haveput the 32 bit version of Windows 8.1 Pro onto a USB drive. In BIOS, my tablet identifies the drive correctly and I have successfully put given it the highest boot priority. When I start up with the USB drive in, the install for Windows 8.1 shows up. However, at this install I am unable to interact with what is displayed on the screen at all. I have tried using the physical buttons on the tablet, tapping the screen, and even a bluetooth keyboard (which I get the feeling won't work without drivers). Do I maybe have the wrong kind of install? I used the Media Creation Tool from Microsoft and also followed some instructions I saw on this forum that involved use of the command prompt to create a partition on the USB Drive (I can't seem to find them again).
I'm sorry if this question has been addressed before; I am new to this forum and my attempts to search for this problem have yielded no results.

You'll need a USB keyboard to navigate the BIOS. See

  • Windows 8.1 install on my windows 7 thinkpad yoga S1 impossible

I just bought a Yoga S1 20CD-00E4FR win7 is the default OS and the recovery partition contain windows 7.
There were 4 DVDs in the package for windows 8.1.
I tried to boot with an external DVD and it works, but after I choose the language and agree terms there is a window with the title Product Recovery and the message is Recovery failed
I tried to copy the DVD (with another DVD drive to be sure) on a bootable usb key and the same problem happens.
I wonder if they give me wrong DVDs, or if the first DVD is corrupted, or if it comes from my new laptop hardware ? Is there another option to install windows 8.1 ?
Additionnal informations : They have numbers so you follow an order, the number 1 is windows 8.1 recovery media for windows 8.1 products (which is weird because my default OS is win7) the number 1 contain 2DVDs with the same title and you can read Disk 1 of 2 and Disk 2 of 2 on them.
Number 2 is Operatin System Recovery Disc Windows 8.1 Pro (OEM activation 3.0 required)
Number 3 is windows 8.1 recovery media for windows 8.1 products
I tried to boot on another DVD but it only boot with the first one (disk 1 of 2 only).
I can clearly read on my seller's website Microsoft Windows 7 Professional 64 bits installed + Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bits licence So I guess I am supposed to be able to install windows 8.1 without troubles.

Does the surface of the DVD look damaged? Maybe try a surface test on the media?

  • Issues with Thinkpad yoga on Windows 7 64-bit

I uninstalled the windows 8.1 that came with my Thinkpad Yoga to installe windows 7 64-bit because there was no support for Power Manager ( a tool that allows you to charge your battery only upto a certain percentage (eg 40%) which helps reduce battery aging when the notebook is mostly operated on AC power).
Doing that required me to fully clean the Hard-disk during the installation process.
I installed almost all of the drivers available on  http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-yoga-series-laptops/thinkpad-...
for thinkpad yoga and windows 7 64 bit.
Happily, this provided me the Power manager, and I can use it just as I wanted.
However, all these has brought in additional issues which are listed below:
    1. The touch pad right click doesn't work. Only two finger tap works as right click.
    2. The touch pad gestures for zoom and scroll doesn't work at all.
    3. The screen auto-rotate doesn't work.
    4. The touch screen gesture for zoom doesn't work.
I did install the ultra-nav and screen-rotate drivers, but I get error messages regarding synaptics ... not working and also sensor driver not working during the windows startup.
    Any help please?
    Thank you.

Just when I was happy that major issues have been resolved by constant updating, I am now experiencing this frightening problem. Mostly during startup, and lately in the middle of working, the screen freezes, shows very damaged image (like TV noise), produces the most unpleasant sound through the speakers and nothing works. I need to restart and hope that it will be ok. Sometimes it requires 2 or 3 restarts, going to safe-mode and returning back to get the issue resolved.
This has happened three or 4 times within 24 hrs. I searched in the forum and for another model it was suggested that epresscache might be the cause. I disabled the service, but the problem reappeared even then.
    Any help please:
This is what appears on the screen when the computer freezes and produces loud unpleasant noise sound.

    Hello everyone,
I recently installed Windows 8.1 Pro RTM successfully so I thought it may be useful to share the steps here.
Disclaimer: Please proceed with caution. I'm not responsible for any gain, loss, or harm done to you, your device, or your data.
    Link to picture
    Pre-requisites:
1- Windows 8.1 RTM ISO image. (Available on the internet)
2- Windows 8 Pro license key. (Yes, It works with 8.1 also)
    3- Windows 7 USB/DVD Download tool
    4- Lenovo Yoga 13 Windows 8 Drivers
5- USB Stick or HDD with at least 4GB space. (Note: All data on disk will be erased)

Sorry, forgot to mention that in order to boot from UEFI the flash drive must be formatted as FAT32. Windows USB and DVD tool supports only NTFS, So after creating the bootable image, copy all the files from the flash drive to the HDD then format the flash drive as FAT32 then copy the files back from the HDD to the flash drive. The flash drive will still be bootable.

  • Yoga 2 Pro : BIOS Update on a clean Windows 8.1 Pro install

    Hi,
I recently bought the Yoga 2 Pro. Like everybody I have the yellow problem.
After buying it, I reinstalled my computer with a fresh Windows 8.1 pro install.
I was wondering if anybody has already tried updating the BIOS on a clean Windows 8.1 install ?
And also if there is any reported bug with the BIOS update.
I already crashed a while back one of my previous computer and I would prefer if this don't append again
    Thanks,
    Best,

Not, i'm speaking about the BIOS update. The windows 8.1 pro installation was fine.

  • ThinkPad W530 with Windows 8 x64 Pro BSOD when connecting to projector

Nine, that only covers Widows 7. Many people in this thread have reported the problem using Windows 8. Has that been addressed by Lenovo yet? Stability problems like this should NEVER be allowed to go so long without a resolution.
Edit Note : This thread was created base from the previous thread "ThinkPad W530 with Windows 7 x64 Pro BSOD when connecting to projector. As we currently Cx reporting facing the same issue on Win8 I have seperated this thread in order not toconfuse other customer. For cutomers facing this issue please continue posting in this thread.

    Hi shan_mcarthur,
Thanks for posting. I read through this thread again and noticed that most of customers here do indeed have Windows 7 installed as what the title represented unless I'm mistaken or may have missed out are you or anyone else here facing the same issue on Windows 8. If that is the case I'll be more than happy to bring this up with the teams but it will have to be a new thread though as I'd like to keep the resolution separate based on the OS use just to not confuse other customer .
For those facing the same issue above on Win8, please do let me know so we can start a discussion around this.
    Do let me know.

    hello,
I has just upgraded my Thinkpad t440 from windows 7 to Windows 8.1 pro. But i could not find Power Manager software to install in my laptop. I want  this software to manage my battery to ensure that it stop charging when 80% capacity. I think that it is useful for my battery.
Someone could help me where i can get this software. I could not find in lenovo website.

Starting with Windows 8, the conventional Power Manager with charging thresholds is no longer officially offered.
Here's a third party tool to set what you need:
    http://thinkutils.wordpress.com/download/
You still need to have the requisite power management drivers installed for it to function properly.

  • No HDMI sound Windows 10 Thinkpad Yoga 12

No HDMI sound in Windows 10 on Thinkpad Yoga 12. Shows not connected in the sound panel, only video transmits over HDMI but soud plays throught speakers as it does not detect the audo link.

Update: I managed to fix it by using what brillat described here. "The HDMI Audio drivers, for whatever reason, are not installed when you install the Intel video driver. You know they are missing if in your device manager under "Sound" you see "High Definition Audio Device" - you should instead see "Intel(R) Display Audio". Download the video drivers from Lenovo.  Extract but do not install.  In the extracted folder, find the DisplayAudio folder.  Find the "High Definition Audio Device" with PCI ID Vendor 8086 and Device 2807 in Device Manager.  Manually update the driver of that device, pointing it to the DisplayAudio folder."
