ACVHD files to Blu-ray, can I use FCP?

I am about to buy a Duo Quad 2.66Ghz Mac Pro, 12gb, Raid, ATI 4870 etc. I have tones of ACVHD (.mts) files of family/holiday footage of my Sony CX12 which I want to put on Blu-ray disc. Indeed Apple doesn't support Blu-ray but I read that you can plug in a (say) LG blu-ray burner and put it on disc via FCP, am I right to assume this? I am a novice with computers and often the talk about native realtime edditing etc goes well over my head.
Just a simple question, can I edit (multiple time lines, titles) my Sony ACVHD files in FCP and burn them to Blu-ray disc?

Take a read here on the procedures with Blu-Ray and Macs...

  • Exporting MPEG2 files for Blu-ray from 720p60

I am exporting MPEG2 files for Blu-ray from 720p60 using compressor 3.05. I export straight from Final Cut 6 to compressor. It all looks great except I end up with some frames in the video that pixelate. It is just one frame, and the average viewer may not see it, but if you go frame by frame you see it. I thought it was just a bad export, but I exported the file again and the same thing happens again on the exact same frame. The fact that it happened again on the exact same frame was very odd to me. It is this way on five different video files. It's certainly not like that in the original on my timeline, so I don't know why it is doing that.
I guess I will try exporting a quicktime file first and then putting that file through compressor to see if that makes a difference. Any ideas from anybody?

Exporting a quicktime file first still produced the pixelated frame. I'm not sure what else to try.

I have 8mm films transferred to .avi files at 18fps.  Can I use Final Cut Express to convert to standard DVDs to play on a US TV?

    Hi
I was hoping that FCE would be able to handle the coversion from 18 to 30fps but that appears not to be the case.
It does - If I'm not totally wrong. Can be to much using FinalCut Pro (6)
    Start FCE
Select type of project You want to do
    I guess - NTSC 29.97fps - Select that from FCE menu / Easy Set-up
    Start a new Sequence
DROP A PHOTO in TimeLine - at beginning.
Now project is locked to 29.97 fps
Now import and drop the 18fps clip in TimeLine.
Select to convert it to match the setting of TimeLine.
IF THIS IS A GOOD WAY - I hesitate to say - It works - but if quality is OK or not - I don't know
I DO : use JES_Deinterlacer (free from Internet) to convert the frame rate in my clips (usually 25fps) to 29.97 fps - Then and first then I import the converted clip into FinalCut to be used in my NTSC projects.
The quality done in this way - is very good and the program is free - so I can not want any better.

  • Can we use FCP conviniently while my mac pro is attached to a LED tv

can we use FCP conviniently while my mac pro is attached to a LED tv (46inch).
I am afraid if the icons will also blow up/get bigger and would become inconvinient to use.

most large TV sets are still 1080p (1920 by 1080).
The icons will appear to take up more space (in square inches) on the TV, but will be "grainy" compared to your monitor. The fundamental size of icons and items on screen (in pixels) will not change. When you return to using a monitor, things will be the same as before.

Hi guys, i have purchased a new mac pro retina disply
    8Gb Ram
    128 Gb flash storage.
i can use fcp in this or what else is required for fcp.

About all you can do is google the old specs and look for a copy on Amazon. You said you just purchased the MBP. You do have 2 weeks from the date of purchase to return it and buy a different model if that helps.

  • Problem Burning Long File to Blu-ray

I can't Share(Burn) long files(more than 1 hour) to an external Blu-Ray from Final Cut Pro 10.1.4.  It gets to about 85% then stops.  It will
burn short files.  I'm on an  iMac i7 with 8GB of ram running Yosemite 10.10.2. and the drive is a Pioneer BDR-XD05S.  Any advice?  Thanks!

OK, the BD render may take a while.  A number of factors seem to be involved in this.  Factors such as the speed of the machine, RAM, external vs. internal storage of the material to be rendered, speed of the burner, quality of the disc, and the source material quality are just a few.  Here are some tips that may speed up the process:
       1.  Make sure to put your FCPX library on an external drive and not the main computer (system) drive.
       2.  Make sure that no other programs are running in the background.
       3.  Make sure to use very high quality BDs for your master disc.
       4.  Check the BD drive's speed to see if it burns fast or slowly.  Sometimes slowly is better because it causes fewer data read errors.
       5.  Sometimes, you may wish to restart your computer to "clear" the RAM and other program stuff lying around (I'm sure there's a technical term for this).
       6.  Allow your burner the additional time it takes to make the burn.  I am currently burning a 3 hour program to BD.  I anticipate it will take 4 to 5 hours depending upon the "mood" of my computer.
       7.  If the "Share" function is not doing what you need, you may wish to send the project to Compressor to open up more detailed options for the render.  You will see that I posted an issue with out of sync audio on DVD & BD using the "Share" Feature from FCPX.  I was able to resolve these issues within Compressor.  BTW, I never had these issues until very recently.  Something in the software has changed - not for the better.
I hope this helps.  I'm off to my edit.

  • Output quality of blu-ray, can it be changed?

I've already started a discussion on this issue, but i cant seem to reply to their answer.  So i had to open another discussion.  Apologise for any mistake.
    Quote by Bill Hunt;
Re: Can we change the quality of the output for Blu-Ray?  & 6 Channels Audio output?
I  am confused on your workflow here. It seems that you are Importing  material that is already in fully BD-compliant form, but then are  Transcoding again?
Can you step us through the exact Assets that you are working with, and the steps that you are taking with those Assets?
Also,  if you have a muxed MPEG source file, I would rip it to the  elemental/elementary streams, as Encore has some issues with muxed MPEG  source files. Also, you will want to rip the two Audio streams, and  Import those separately. These Assets should show Do Not Transcode, if  they are 100% BD-compliant. If they do not, you should be able to force  Encore to NOT Transcode them, so the quality should match that of the  Imported files exactly, and no more work should need to be done.  Remember, that is if they ARE 100% BD-compliant - very important.
If  you already have your dual-Audio streams, you will not need the SurCode  DD 5.1 SS encoder plug-in, in this case, as that encoding has already  been done, or at least I think that it has been done.
Good luck, and we'll be looking for details on your workflow,
    Hunt
    My reply;
I am working with m2ts files from another BD.  I'm trying to create a Music BD.  I'm extracting the songs from multiple BDs.
I wanna create my own menu and pop-up menu(i will create another discussion for this issue)
The    output quality is far inferior that the input file, like 10 times    worst.  I want to know if there is something i can do to overrride  this   thing.
    Thanks.
    Arshad

You would export to full quality in whatever format it currently is (probably AIC). Then you would put this into Toast (with the Blu-ray plugin installed). You can adjust the encoding settings in Toast.
Bitrate affects how much data is used to construct video. DVDs are encoding in mpeg2 video, with a bitrate around 4.5 Mbps (megabits per second; take this and divide by 8 to get megabytes per second). Do the math, and you will come up with around 2 hours of 4.5Mbps fits on a 4.7GB DVD.
Blu-ray uses three possible video codecs: VC-1 (basically a new windows media), mpeg2 (like a DVD, but high def), and H.264 (also called AVC). Toast allows mpeg2 or H.264. H.264 is more compact but takes a LONG time to encode. A very general assessment of mpeg2 and H.264 is that both offer the same quality, but H.264 can use about half the bitrate of comparable mpeg2, at the same dimensions.
You have to decide how low you can go before the quality worsens. As I said, I would say in general you could set the bitrate as low as 11mbps for H.264. If there is a lot of action, or detailed textures such as moving grass or water, it might need to be higher.
I just opened Toast and starting dropping movies into an AVCHD disc. With the bitrate in encoding settings up to the max of 26mbps, I can put 40 minutes on. So you could play around with it, and see how your footage looks.
Clean, well-lit, tripod shot footage with noise filters and professional cleaning can compress very well. Professional BD sometimes go as low as 6mbps in scenes. Home movies have more noise and shake, and need more data to be compressed.
50 minutes fits, with a bitrate of 11.5mbps, with audio in 448kbps Dolby Digital.

  • Audio Probelms with some DVDS/BLU-RAY discs when using optical out to Audigy 2

I have my PS3 connected to my Audigy 2 ZS soundcard via optical?cable to play 5. sound on my PC sound system (Klipsch Promedia Ultra 5.). I have finally successfully played discrete 5. sound with some DVDs. I have changed my optical out setting to bitstream in the DVD/BD menu (XMB) and selected optical with everything checked in (XMB). So far, The Matrix, The Matrix Reloaded and Minority Report have worked in proper 5. (not stereo matrixing). Both Dolby Digital and DTS tracks (I know it works because it sounds twice as good as Dolby?Digital) ?work in Minority Report. The problem is... Jurassic Park (DTS) and my Blu-ray MIssion Impossible 3 have no audio (probably more too). The STRANGE part is if I fastfoward both films by .5x (so that audio plays in FF) I can hear audio. When FF by .5x the display signal on the top of the screen changes from DTS or DOLBY DIGITAL: Multi Channel to DTS or DOLBY DIGITAL: 5..
What is with that? Also I still do not get audio in any games, Resistance (Blu-ray)?or any game demo but I do get the audio from the game display screen (XMB). Please if anyone has?any?useful advise or information it would be greatly appreciated.

  • Blu-ray can't communicate with DHCP server since I upgraded to Lion

Hi gang, hope someone can help me out. I have a Sony Blu-Ray DVD BDP-N460 that I normally use to connect to the internet and watch streaming Netflix, etc. with no problems, until I upgraded to Lion. Now, for some reason, I get an error message: "Having trouble communicating with the DHCP server." I use a wired connection directly to my AirPort Extreme, and I also use a Motorola SBV5220 SURFboard Cable Modem. I haven't changed my internet servings on my Mac.
Under system settings on my Blu-Ray on-screen display, it says "Physical connection OK, Local Settings OK, Internet Connection Failed." I've tried umpteen times going through the automated setup on my Blu-Ray, where the system automatically detects settings, etc...everything I did when I first set the system up. And I've tried countless manual setting combinations. No luck. This is really weird because I had no problems in the past...the culprit seems to be Lion because this glitch happened simultaneously with my upgrade.
I am not a networking expert so any help will be greatly appreciated.
I'm running Lion 10.7.1 on an iMac 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 2GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM.
    Thanks.

Update: So here's what's happened. I figured I would ditch the Sony and get a $99 Apple TV. I still had the same connection issues.
(FYI my network is now set up like this: Motorola Cable Modem via Ethernet to Time Capsule via Ethernet to Mac. In a separate studio, Airport Extreme wirelessly connects to Time Capsule; Airport Express connects to Extreme via Ethernet cable. For this discussion, only Time Capsule applies, not Extreme as mentioned above.)
I called support, and they had me read my Time Capsule's IP Address, Subnet Mask, Router, and DNS Server numbers to them. Then, they had me manually input those numbers into my Apple TV (via my TV screen), number-for-number, EXCEPT they had me increase the last digit of the IP Address by one (for example, my Time Capsule's IP was 10.0.1.2, and they had me make my Apple TV's IP Address 10.0.1.3).
I assume these settings would work on the Sony DVD. I'm so happy with the Apple TV that I don't even want to go back and try.
Sorry, Apple, for blaming the whole thing on Lion. Not really sure why all this happened out of the blue though.
Hope this helps somebody. I'm a happy camper now. Apple TV rocks.

  • Blu Ray onto DVD Using Toast 10

I have tried several output resolutions and codecs that I send to Toast 10 from I Movie, i.e. MPEG-4. Apple Intermediate, etc, all at 1920 resolution. Toast will burn the blu ray onto the dvd, but when I play it, the video has lines on it during any motion that took place in the video. Any suggestions?

I tried using AIC at 1920 selecting 1080p but still have the problem. Are there some other settings I need to select? Thanks for the reply.

  • Blue Ray disk created using premiere 10 does not show menus

I have a video project with a main menu and  5 scene menus. I burn the project (using premiere Elements 10) to a Blue-ray disc using preset H.264 1920x1080i PAL Dolby  with quality option set to "Fit Contents to available space" . The software happily creates the disc with 17.6GB of data (main stream, 00000.m2ts is 18,413,568 KB (17.5GB) and 6 small streams for main & scene menus.
However, when this disc is reinserted into the drive, it does not automatically start with the main menu.
If I burn the same project to a DVD with PAL_Widescreen_DolbyDVD preset with quality option set to "Fit Contents to available space", it creates the DVD which, when reinserted into the drive, starts automatically with the main menu.
The environment is Wndows 7  64bit with SONY BD RW BWU-500S ATA Device .
What do I need to do to get the Blue Ray disc to start with the main menu?
