Ad Block Plus

The firefox extension, Ad Block Plus, caused trouble in the presentations application.  I also noticed that,  in the my files application, while scrolling down a pdf document using the scroll wheel on my mouse, document to jump back to the top after viewing a couple of pages.
It is probably a good idea to disable ad block plus on all acrobat.com applications.  You can do this by clicking on the ABP icon in firefox and choosing "Disable on ..." for each of the applications after you've logged in.  You'll need to reload the page.

Thanks for the excellent tip for Firefox users!

• Ad Block Plus is not blocking ads

I downloaded ad block plus 3 years ago and it worked perfectly. Suddenly, it stopped blocking ads. I have tried to use the troubleshooting advice, and have followed the parts I understand. But it still does not work, although it seems to have been downloaded because I see the option of removing it when I go to Tools and Options.
Help!

I have installed Ad Block Plus at least 3 times. The icon (upper right) disappears after a few uses. Is it still running? Should I reinstall? I like the service and have used it on previous versions of Firefox. Please let me know how to proceed.

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information.
Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.
To Reset Firefox do the following:
#Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
#Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
#Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.

• Cannot install Ad-Block Plus. ERROR 404! which means the XPI file is not availible to download, Could someone please fix this?

i try to download AD Block Plus, get a 404 Error when trying to download from mozilla add ons site or ad block plus web site!
This needs to be fixed!

Could you try again in case it was a temporary glitch?

If you get the same error, I wonder whether some other software on your system is blocking it. Are you able to download other add-ons from the same site?
When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
1. Clear Firefox's Cache
orange Firefox button or Tools menu > Options > Advanced
On the Network mini-tab > Offline Storage : "Clear Now"
2. If needed, delete the site's cookies here (this will log you out)
While viewing a page on the site, right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

i am getting ads through flash player. there is no menu to either close the same and/or block the same. more flash player ads appear in each screen. please suggest more options other than adblock plus, which is not effective in blocking the flash player ads.

You can look at these extensions:

• How do I find my ad blocker plus add-on? I can't find it in my tols anymore.

I need to set up my wifes ad plus blocker, so I am going to my computer to see how I have it set up. I can not find where the settings are. My wife is getting more popupps that you can imagine. Her computer needs to have the ad blocker.

# Go to https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/adblock-plus/ and click the Add to Firefox button.
# Once installed, you'll have an Adblock Plus icon on the navigation toolbar (the area with the address bar and the search box).
#* Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars
# If the menu bar is enabled, you'll also see an Adblock Plus submenu under the Tools menu.

• Since a while I can't use my hotmail anymore. The Hotmail support sayed i had to contact you to find out if my firefox is No Script extension or Ad Block Plus.

Firefox would be blocking my hotmail box.

If you do have those extensions installed, try disabling them to see if they are the cause of problem you're having with Hotmail.
Tools > Add-ons > Extensions = look at the list, click on those extensions and use the Diasble button, than restart Firefox. Then try Hotmail to see if it works with those two extensions disabled.

• When ever I try to open something up in Safari, it says blocked plus in.  How do I get rid of this

Whenever I try to open something in Safari, it says blocked plug in.  This did not happen a month ago.  How do I correct this?

If it is the flash plugin go to this Adobe website, Adobe - Flash Player, and check to see which version you're running.  The current version is shown on the page.  Click on the Player Download Center link and download and install the latest flash plugin for Safari.
Don't download flash from any other soruce as there are scams and malware sites out there with the Flash download as the hook.

• I have goen back to Firefox 3.6. Why isn't my AdBlock plus working?

(This is my 3rd try on this stupid new computer [just shy of 2 months]. It is an HP laptop with Windows 7. It is TOO responsive. It erases entire things I am writing for reasons I have no idea why....)
Anyway. I have had this problem once before. I have a very important Google "Main Page" bookmark that has links to things like my calendar, gmail, and most importantly something called "IGoogle". This is a sort of masterpiece I made myself a long time ago that consists of a SERIES of pages with specific add-ins that I want -- e.g. a "Home" page that has everything from my to do list to biorhythms; then there are pages such as "Cartoons & Other Fun", "Daily Add-Ins", & several more. I rely on these things! I have been rolling along just fine in Firefox 4 up until a few days ago when I have no idea what happened! My Ad Block Plus was working AND all my IGoogle pages were fine. Then -- as it is wont to do -- the computer did its latest "willy nilly" trick & reduced my Google start page to absolute microprint -- and I mean, BEYOND microprint! I kept clicking on control & + & finally got it back to the right size, but in the meantime -- something happened to the start page. Now when I go to my "Google Main" bookmark & go to my "IGoogle", I get the pages..... BUT there is nothing on them!!!! So -- I re-installed Firefox 3.616 (because I know the pages work on that) -- & also upgraded to 3.617. The IGoogle pages work fine. However.... now my Ad Block Plus has completely disappeared. When I go to tools>add-ons, for Ad Block Plus, all I see is "Options" along with "Disable" or "Uninstall". If you click on ANY of those, all I get is little bells dinging, absolutely NOTHING happens, and then the little window will not close! If I click uninstall, it will claim it has done it & will take effect when I restart Firefox. I do that -- except exactly the same thing is still there. I have tried to do a new install of Ad Block Plus -- and I get something about an "unknown error" & that the thing cannot install! Fine. If I go back & then re-install Firefox 4, the AdBlock Plus works fine, but once again my IGoogle pages have no content.
Now, I had this problem once before. Somehow one day I was able to upgrade to Firefox 4 DIRECTLY from the 3.616 -- that is, WITHOUT downloading the Firefox 4.exe (or whatever it is). At that point, I happily had both my AdBlock Plus AND all my IGoogle pages. I can't remember how I was able to do this!
For now, all I know is that I have two choices:
If I stay in Firefox 3.616, I can have my IGoogle pages BUT AdBlock Plus doesn't work & the ads are driving me absolutely CRAZY!
I can get rid of the ads in Firefox 4, but I can't have my IGoogle pages.
Help!

I'm Sorry! The Crash ID You Gave In The System Details Can Not Be Opened.. Can You Re-Post A New one?
Thanks!

• Blocking ads

Hello, I have a new laptop computer which runs Windows 8. I run Fire Fox and I am getting barraged with ads, I have done the following to try to stop it:
Installed ad blocker plus and adjusted it to max settings
Installed and removed malware on the computer
Refreshed Fire Fox
None of these seem to work, my desk top runs Windows 7 and has none of these problems. I am sending this from my desk top because my laptop is crawling with ads on almost every page.
What can be done to fox this?
Thank you

In that case it sounds like you picked up a dose of Malware, regardless of how new that laptop is.
You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

• After re-establing Moz/FF, I cannot get WOT or Ad Block to work. It says it incompatable with FF 13. Help please.

Just last night, I was able to re-establish Mozilla/FF. 13. However, I'm unable to use Web of Trust (WOT) and Ad Block Plus. It states both are incompatible with FF 13. Is there anyway around this as I depend on both extensions.
Thank you,
Lee

Just to update all of you who were so nice to help me. ATT Support Plus said that the plug ins which were indicated to be in dire need of an upgrade but I was able to do so for for reasons I, as a mere former Registered Nurse , have no clue about what they were saying, I didn't understand nor could do anything. I was and still to some extent remain somewhat frazzled by this. What we don't understand is frightening and I have just basic computer understanding
They (ATT Support Plus) told me that at this time, they do not propose an imminent threat and no viruses or adware in in the system. It took them over two hrs to run all the diagnostic and malware tests.
However, I did speak with my installer moments ago. He has his Masters in Compt. Science and is over a few school districts told me that probably the best thing to do was to wipe out the hard drive and install Windows 7. I'm considering this but I don't know the advantages of this system. Do any of you have anything by which you can compare the differences from what I have, Windows Vista Home Basics, and Windows 7, living on a fixed income is difficult but if I have to do it, then I have to do it. Besides my orchids, plants, birds, cats, and nature in general, the computer has enriched my life. As I have a debilitating, rare bone condition called avascular necrosis for which I've had both my knees replaced...and I'm only 55. Please, no sympathy. That's not something for which I'm fishing. I just wanted you good people to know a little about me and my circumstances.
If any of you wish and have the time, I'd so appreciate your input on this.
Kindly,
Lee

• Pop up blocker not working. Blocking windows that I don't want it blocking.

I now have Ad Blocker 2.4 and Ad Blocker Plus Pop-up Add On 0.9.1. , and I have the Block Pop-ups box checked in FF options. Recently FF stopped notifying me, (via the bar across the top of the window, which also asked whether I wanted to allow the window), when a popup was being blocked. More recently still, something seems to be blocking some links from opening windows. This doesn't always happen but it seems that perhaps it happens more often when .pdfs are involved. Have I done something wrong? Is the a conflict with the Ad Blocker stuff and the newer FF upgrades?
I guess that there also might be a problem with Adobe since .pdfs seem to be involved. Anything you can do to clear this up would be greatly appreciated. OS is Win7 64

Hello,
Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)
* On Windows you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* On Mac you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the option key while starting Firefox.
* On Linux you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by quitting Firefox and then going to your Terminal and running: firefox -safe-mode (you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
* Or open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.

Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshooting extensions and themes article for that.
To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.
When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.
Thank you.
