Ad Blocker Keywords

I'm troubleshooting an established site that has bits missing on some systems due to intervention of ad-blocking security software.  I've tracked this to using folders or filenames with the name Banner, which seems to be picked up by some ad-blockers which then suppress that content.
Has anyone else come across this sort of problem?  If so, what words other than Banner should one avoid to forestall this happening again?
Yes, I know you could use gobbledygook names, but it is much more easy to maintain sites that use meaningful names for things.
Or am I on the wrong track altogether here?

>Or am I on the wrong track altogether here?
I don't think you're on the wrong track. Stupid as it may seem, "banner" is definitely a favorite of ad blockers. I'm sure there are others, but that's the main one I try to avoid.

  • Keyword Blocking App/software

    hello
I have a very young son who has been checking out inappropriate sites. I blocked access to those sites by using hostfiles but just to be extra secure, I'd like to block some keywords also.
Can one suggest an app/software that I can use to block keywords so any page associated with them wont load?
I tried K9 and CutX free trial and was NOT impressed one bit with neither. I would rather use an app that's free but IF the product works well, I wouldn't mind paying a licensing fee for it.
    Would appreciate any suggestions.

  • Blocking myspace

I would like to use the WRT300N to block access to myspace but everything I try seems to have no effect.
I have set up the PC list by MAC address
Set up and enabled internet access policy, defined internet access times, blocked keyword myspace and URL www.myspace.com with no effect.
The PC I am trying to block is wireless and we are setup DHCP (the reason I used the MAC address fot define my PC list)  Broadband access.

Do you have access to the PC? If you have access and it is a Windows PC try adding myspace.com to the "hosts" file. The "hosts" file is located in
    C:\Windows\system\drivers\etc\ for XP; C:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\ for Win2000.
Open the "hosts" file with Notepad, add this line
    127.0.0.1       myspace.com
Save it. Open a browser and try it. However, if the user figures this out all they have to do is remove the entry.  If you have administrative rights you can remove permissions so normal users can not modify the file.

  • Can't Block Website With WRT54GS

    I have WRT54GS version 6. 1.52.2 firmware. I've searched everyone but I can't block websites such as youtube.com and crunchyroll.com . I've enabled policies, i've made 192.168.0.0 - 192.168.0.250 ip rangers. ive done http://www.youtube.com/ , youtube.com, and youtubes IP.. It still doesn't work. What's up with this? I've also blocked keywords. Thanks

Since you're unable to do it from the router, an alternative is to do it locally on the PC by editing the Hosts file.
    Benefits of a Hosts file
    For Vista
You'll need to go to each machine and make the changes. If the users figure this out and if they know how they can just remove each entry. As long as the accounts that they are using to log onto the PCs don't have administrator rights they won't be able to change the hosts file.
To add the site you want to block type this:
    127.0.0.1     *.website.com
Afterwards remove read, write, and modify permissions for the Everyone Group to prevent users from editing the file. Give it a try if you feel comfortable enough with doing so.

  • Forefront Server Protection 2010 for Exchange: Notifications behaving differently on E2007/2010

    Hi all and happy holidays:
I have this particular situation with two client FSPE implementations recently.
I got one one client with a single E2007 server with FSPE v.11.0.713.0 and another one with a single E2010 server with FSPE v.11.0.713.0. I configured 'Keyword Filter Match' email notifications to Administrators and, to Internal Senders notifying them
not to use certain keywords in the future. The configuration of the notifications is exaclty the same and is using the following fields in the body of the message:
%Product% has detected a blocked keyword match on a message you sent.
          Filter Name: "%Filter%"
          State:  "%State%"
          Subject line:  "%Message%"
          Sender:  "%ISAddress%%ESAddress%"
          Recipients: "%IRAddresses%%ERAddresses%"
          Scan job:  "%ScanJob%"
          Location:  "%Company%/%Site%/%Server% (%Folder%)"
Certain kewords are not allowed through this mail system as they may be offensive to others. Please refrain from using this word(s) in the future. If you believe you received this in error, contact your system administrator.
Notifications are working great, detecting when a user is Internal Sender  and delivering the message correctly but here's the issue:
    1. On the E2007 system, when the user/administrator get the notification from FSPE, the %Filter% field it displays the actual keyword that that was used:
Microsoft Forefront Protection for Exchange Server has detected a keyword filter match.
Filter name:  "English Profanity: <RealUglyWord>;English Profanity: <RealUglyWord>"
    2. On the E2010 system however, when the user/administrator get the email notifications, the %Filter% field only displays the name of the keyword list:
Microsoft Forefront Protection for Exchange Server has detected a keyword filter match.
          Filter Name: "English Profanity"
No biggie you may think but, the issue is that the user has no way to know for sure which words should not use. Of course they can call the Administrator but this will cause uneeded calls to the helpdesk IMO. In the case of English profanity, it may
be obvious but, in the case of other keyword lists, it may not be so obvious. For example, I also have another keyword list blocking racist terms. To some people the word 'gringo' may be offensive, but not to others. IMO, it should not be used
at all, and I am hispanic. In any case, the user needs to know for sure which words are being blocked and not to use it IAW company policy and know that the message was not delivered. Similar keyword lists are in use on both clients for "Spam-like
language', 'Sexual harassment', etc, etc so, this is an important client requierement and part of their 'Suitable Working Envrionment' policy and enforcement.
Hope anybody has any ideas on how to fix it.
    Regards,
    Fred Larracuente

  • RV220W - Content filtering not working (?)

Hello, I bought a router model RV200W fw 1.0.1.0... nice toy.
It all works very well with the exception of content filtering. The rule only works if connections are made with the HTTP protocol, but if the user connects with HTTPS, then the rule is not considered... (???)
    f.e.:
    http://facebook.com (content filtered)
    https://facebook.com (content NOT filtered)...
What the hell ! where I'm wrong ?
Does anyone is experiencing the same ?

Yes, the correct title was "URL FILTERING NOT WORKING"...thanks abudef000
I do not want be polemical, but I do not understand where I went wrong.
    Before I buy I looked @
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/routers/ps9923/ps11025/data_sheet_c78-630461.html
    Check it out.
Could you assume that HTTPS URLs are not in the sentence "Static URL blocking, keyword blocking, approved URL" as stated in the product sheet ?

  • Anti-**** software for Mac

I'm sorry, for some reason I was unable to post in other forums right now, and I wasn't sure exactly where I'm supposed to go to ask about this....
Can anyone recommend a software for Mac that blocks all **** and **** related websites? It would be ideal if there was a program that would allow the user to input websites to be permanently blocked. Thanks.

Most of the problems posting are not being at the top of a sub-forum.
Use your router to block keywords, IP addresses, and services.
Use FireFox 3.0 along with NoScript will take care of most if the "**".

  • Access restriction question

I have a WRT54G v2 wireless router/access point (Firmware Version v2.02.7) ...and I am using access restrictions with some success, but I have one question - is there any way to setup a rule (or rules) such that site blocking is time-based?
For example, the internet is up and available, except for myspace.com, which is blocked between 7pm and 5am.
I know that a time window that spans midnight requires two rules, but what I don't know is how to have a rule that is both site-based AND time-based. If I create a new rule and change its status from "allow PCs" to "deny PCs", the router's web-based GUI immediately disables the blocked protocols, blocked sites, and blocked keywords fields...and so it seems that what I am asking for is not possible...unless I am missing something.
    Any ideas? Thanks.
    cheers,
    Steve

Okay...the answer is this - NO. So what to do? Install a different firmware. I installed Tomato and it blows the doors off of the standard Linksys firmware...and the supported access restriction rules are far more powerful and intuitive.

  • RV 120w

Does anyone know how to configure the Windows vpn client for Ipsec to RV 120w

Ok, I went back and read the RV120W PDF, duh.  The groups I was referring to are LAN Groups.  The steps are below.
From there, you can create keywords and apply blocking to groups based on those keywords.
Configuring LAN GroupsYou can create LAN groups, which are groups of endpoints that are identified by
their IP address. After creating a group, you can then configure actions, such as
blocked keywords in a firewall rule, that apply to the group. (See
    Adding BlockedKeywords, page 87
    To create a LAN Group:
    STEP 1
Choose Networking > LAN > LAN Groups.
    STEP 2
    Click Add.
    STEP 3
Enter the group name; spaces and quotes are not supported. Click Save.
    STEP 4
In the LAN Groups page, click the box next to the group you just created and clickHost List.
    STEP 5
To add endpoints to the group, click Add.
    STEP 6
Enter the IP address of the endpoint and click Save. Repeat steps 4 through 6 foreach endpoint you want to add to the group.

  • Rv 120W- Firewall and Content Filtering

    Hi All,
I'm having a problem with a RV 120W wireless router.  I'm trying to block streaming video, keywords and block on URLs, but doesn't seem to block anything.  Also tried to control user bandwidth, but still runs at regular speed.  Not sure if the logging is working either.  No logs come up.
I upgraded the firmware to the lastest available.  I'm not sure if it's something not checked off or if this router is trashed.
Looks like it works.  Connects to the internet, but don't know if it's blocking anything.
    Any help on this?
Attached is a config file.  It opened in Word Pad.
    Thanks,
    Vince

  • E3000 keyword blocking no longer working with new 1.0.06 firmware under access restrictions

I set up some policies that were working fine under 1.0.04 that are no longer working under 1.0.06 b.  I have tried modifying with all sorts of options and nothing is working.  Has anyone else found a combination that works?  Or can anyone confirm that blocking by keywords are or are not working for them under the latest firmware?  This is causing problems for our west michigan web design company. Help appreciated.

How was the FW updated? Automatic or manual?
To safely update FW, I recommend doing the following: Download the FW file from the support site first.
    1. Save router config to file first using IE or FF with all security add-ons disabled.
    2. Factory reset the router with all other devices disconnected or turned OFF accept for 1 wired PC.
    3. Reload or Update the FW using IE or FF. Just download the FW file to your local wired LAN PC.
    4. Factory reset the router and then set up from scratch first and test with out loading the saved config from file. Check to see if any problems are fixed before loading the saved config from file. Sometimes you need to set up from scratch with out loading the saved config file. Just safer that way.
Users have seen issues with upgrading to the most current version, you may need to revert back to v4

  • Object or Statement Block locking using synchronized keyword in java

    Hi ,
Can anyone tell me how java is implementing the Object locking and the code block locking mechanism using the 'synchronized' keyword internally??
    Thanks in advance
    Raj

The JVM implements a concept known as a monitor using a combination of direct implementation and support by the operating system. For more detail, refer to the Java JVM and language specifications.

  • WRT54G: How do I specify more than 4 URLs & 6 keywords to block?

    Hello,
The router's Access Restrictions function performs Website blocking by allowing the administrator to specify four URLs and six keywords to be blocked. How do I specify more four URLs and six keywords?
    Thanks,
    Chuck

On these kind of routers under Access Restriction, you can block 4 websites by URL Address...4 using Keyword and you can also block some application under Blocked Applications....If the application you want to block is not listed or you want to edit a service’s settings, enter the application’s name in the Application Name field. Enter its range in the Port Range fields. Select its protocol from the Protocol drop-down menu. Then click the Add button.

  • Can a keyword be blocked?

My company submitted an app with a certain keyword but it simply does not appear on search results for the same keyword. Could this keayword be blocked? How can we unblock it? What else could explain this mistery?
    Thanks!

Apple does filter checks on keywords and I've heard that in some cases they will strip out ones they deem necessary.
More than likely you used something protected by copyright and/or not related to your app.
