AD Database and Log Bogus Free Space Alerts

For some reason one of our Domain Controllers is generating a SCOM alert for "AD Database and Log : Free space (KB) on drive C: is lower than the required reserved space for AD Database and Log file. It should be at least 700000 KBytes."  The
thing is that drive has 111 Gig free.  We are running SCOM 2012 SP1 with CU3.  AD MP version is 6.0.8228.0 and the offending DC is running Server 2012 R2.  We have other 2012 R2 DCs that don't have this issue so I'm a bit puzzled.  Thought
I'd see if anyone else is having the issue.

Hi
SCOm do not see the size of the drive it looks size of AD DB and log file refer below link for more information on monitor
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd262025.aspx

According to your link it does look at the size of the drive.  There was a bit in there that struck me though, it said
"During this initial replication cycle, the database and log file sizes are expected to grow significantly. This growth is not reported by the script as an error. However, for a new domain controller, the script still reports any low-disk-space conditions."
I'm guessing this is what happened.  Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

I would like to look into EACH ldf too like SQL 2005 onward using sysfiles
    in SQL 2000
DBCC sqlperf(logspace) will just sum all the ldf size.....
    Hello,
Below would work in SQL2000.I did not tested it on 2000 ,I dont have 2000 anymore. This will give information for data and log file free space for all databases
    exec sp_msforeachdb 'SELECT name ,size/128.0 - CAST(FILEPROPERTY(name, ''SpaceUsed'') AS int)/128.0 AS AvailableSpaceInMB
    FROM sysfiles';

We need to set an alert in case the log file fills up to a certain level (ST04 - Space usage - Total log size / Free space)
Which parameter should we set in solman for this?

  • Move Exchange Server 2010 SP1 databases and log files to another partition

My company has been running Exchange Server 2010 SP1 on virtual machine for almost three years. My colleague created this virtual machine (Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1) before Exchange Server installation with following partitions:
    C partition - for Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 OS (size 40 GB)
E partition - for Exchange Server 2010 SP1 databases and logs (size 410 GB)
Those two partitions are on the same virtual hard disk "next to one another" so I can not extend C partition which gets filled up with IIS logs (when C partition free space is under 10 GB I am backing up these logs with backup software and afterwards
deleting them thus freeing up space on C partition). I have 2 databases (along with Public Folders) and size of these databases and their logs is around 235 GB.
Is it safe to move these databases and their logs to another partition which I would create on separate virtual hard disk for this purpose only and how much time this process might take since during this process databases
would be dismounted and inaccessible to all users? He made big blunder in my opinion but I have to solve this.

Yes, its safe to move the DB/Logs. You can follow the procedure mentioned in this article to do it via EMC or Shell... http://exchangeserverpro.com/move-exchange-2010-database-folder/
But it depends on various factors on how long it is going take, like size of the database/logs, server performance, storage performance etc...
    Besides this, upgrade Exchange 2010 SP1 to SP3, SP1/SP2 aren't supported anymore! http://blogs.technet.com/b/rmilne/archive/2014/04/09/end-of-exchange-2010-sp2-support.aspx

Run Disk Utility located in /Applications/Utilities before trying to upgrade to Lion in case the startup disk needs repairing.

  • My iPad free space was shrinking.  Previously I did an iOS upgrade and got more free space so I tried a restore and the same thing happened.  Do I have a setting wrong?

My iPad free space was shrinking.  Previously I did an iOS upgrade and got more free space so I tried a restore and the same thing happened.  Do I have a setting wrong?  There was a significant change from 4.3 GB to now 10.2 GB.  I still have all the same apps, photos, songs, etc.  So what's up?  Why does my space not recover after I delete things?

This is what I did to resolve the issue.  First I did a simple Reset (Home and on/off until the Apple logo appears) and it didn't help.  Then I did a Restore with a reload from the backup and that also accomplished nothing.  Then, I did a Restore as new with NO reload from backup and that resolved my issue.
IF you choose to try the same thing, here are some cautions.  Make absolutely certain that all apps, music, movies, etc. are present in the iTunes library.  Also make absolutely certain that all "regular" data, such as pdf files, Word files, etc. are present and accessible somewhere on the computer's hard drive.  Be aware that you will probably lose all game data (scores, etc.).  I did not investigate a solution for that because I don't play many games and I really don't care about the game history.  Finally, be forewarned that it is a bit tedius recreating all your folders and putting each app where you want it.

  • Restored hard drive using Time Machine and tons of free space appeared?

    Hi all
Went to install Snow Leopard yesterday, and learned I didn't have enough free space left on my Macbook. Went to clear some space and....long story short, cleared up too much stuff, Macbook wouldn't restart, had to restore from a Time Machine backup I did right before trying to clear off space.
    Fine.
    Back up, running fine.
But, um, I now have 32GB of free space, where I had about 5 before
I seem to have my iPhoto and iTunes libraries, and can't see what I've lost, but I'm nervous as ****.
Anybody have any idea what could have happened to create so much free space?

First, check to see if you have anything on the Tm exclusion list in TM system preferences->options.
there are also a few things that TM never backs up and some of them may have been too big. that includes your Trash so if you are not in the habit of emptying it regularly that may have been the reason. also, you could have had runaway log files. log files are not backed up either. another possibility is huge swap files. they are not backed up either.

  • Table Partitions and Rolling Window: free space not reclaimed

I have a couple of processes that involve the rolling window scenario where we drop an old partition and add a new partition monthly. We are seeing, however, that free space is not being reclaimed, and so I keep having to feed new datafiles into the tablespace (which is LMT). I was (mistakenly, it seems) under the impression that dropping a partition frees up that space for re-use.
We're currently on Oracle 10gR2 (10.2.0.2), but these tablespaces were orginally created in 9i. I've read that one solution is to implement "table shrinking," however I also see that is only available on tables in an ASSM tablespace. I see that ASSM is the default for tablespaces in 10gR2, but since my tablespaces were created in 9i, I assume they are not ASSM.
I'd like to see what other people think of this scenario. Surely a lot of people do the rolling window scenario and need space reclaimed.

No, it is of concern because Sanadra was messing with the partitions. She could have inadvertantly caused something to happen, in this case the free-space issue, and it's imperative to get all of the details.
My iMac 27' Late-2012 does not have a fusion drive, yet shows that the type is "internal" the original poster doesn't indicate that.

  • I can't expand my partition and I have free space Macbook pro mid 2010

Hello! I have a macbook pro mid 2010 with Mavericks, I had 2 partitions and deleted one with the disk utility, now I want to expand the one that I have left but I can't, I cannot drag the corner of the partition because it is below of the free space, I will post a picture so you can understand better.  Also I tried using iPartitions but it won't let me make any changes. Thank you

    Hi LamboMong,
    just try this:
    http://refit.sourceforge.net
install, reboot twice and choose the Windows-Partition on next startup.
(The apple-bootloader doesn't display all bootable harddisks.
With rEFIt you can boot from all partitions/harddisks on your computer.)
I hope that will solve your problem.

  • Disk utility/erase and lost HD free space

    HELP!
In an attempt to clear up space from deleted files I ran the disk utility>erase>erase free space>35-Pass erase deleted files programme. Then did verify disk permissions and repair disk permissions.
Iv now dropped from 7.8GB of free space to 1.8 of free space on the HD. So that things aren't working right. Plus, I can't download music that I bought on iTunes because there isn't enough space on the HD.
How do I get all that space back? What did I do wrong?
All I was doing was trying to free up space from deleted files that Iv been getting rid of. I know that when you delete from one portion of the HD it doesn't always delete it totally off the system only the portion where you're looking at it.
    HELP

Do you by any chance have FileVault enabled?

  • I cant open Itunes 12.1.2 and use "erase free space"

Hi guys, after updating the new Apple update (10.10.3 and iTunes 12.1.2, I have so many problem to my macbook pro 2014 version. It takes a lot longer to start the computer which is incredibly fast before updating. Plus, I also cant open the iTunes and use the "erase my free space" in Disk Utility due to "cant create temporary file" even when i have like 150 Gbs left. Any helps?

    Hey SteelyDanO78249
My iTunes 12.1.2.27 becomes unresponsive on Windows 7 (64bit) whilst just browsing through the software, as I get a message come up saying “iTunes has stopped working” and then closes itself.  I personally think that the software is full of errors which need fixing by Apple especially as they still have not grasped the motto “If it aint broke don’t fix it”.  Especially as I have done everything like you have done to try to make the faulty software work.
It will be interesting to find out if someone out there has found a fix, but I doubt they have.
    All the best, Jolly_Oli

  • OS X operation and hard drive free space

I'm trying to track down a sudden spate of system and software lockup.  My current hypothesis is the issue is connected with the size of some new PDF files coupled with decreasing free space on the hard drive.
For Windows to operate correctly, MS clearly states a hard disk partition must have a minimum of 15% free space.  (I think XP and older only requires 10% free space, but I'm not positive about that.)
Is there a similar free space percentage for each partition in OS X?
If yes, is there a simple overview of how it works "out there" somewhere?
    Thanks.

Use a tool like OmniDiskSweeper 1.8 to find what's on the disk, where, and how large.

  • Iphone shows 1gb and itunes 3gb free space

Why is that my iphone storage shows that I only have 1GB free but when I sync it through itunes shows that there's 3GB free space on my iphone. Where does the 2GB goes? Because I really need those 2GB space on my iphone cause the last update took a lot of space so I can't even download apps or keep my photos and keep deleting them Please help.

Yes, I see the same thing with my iPhone 3GS running iOS 4.2.1 (also never jailbroken), although I’ve seen this for a while with previous iOS releases, maybe even before iTunes 10. I see variations anywhere from 500MB to 2GB or more during the sync.
At the end of the sync, the amount of free space reported by iTunes matches what the iPhone says, but it’s still strange — is there space being taken up by something that could be freed up?
