Ad for iTunes 10 is filling up my screen

Here is my situation. I am using an eMac with OS X 10.3.9 and iTunes 7.4.2. I buy CDs and import them into iTunes; I do not buy music from the iTunes store. I still get offers to upgrade to the latest version of iTunes and those offers don't annoy me. But today, something different happened.
I do not have iTunes Store selected at the left of the screen, I have Library > Music selected. Besides my usual Genre, Artist, Album and track sections, I now have a large area of the window occupied by an advertisement trying to get me to download iTunes 10. This appeared today.
I can't install iTunes 10 on this computer, since it requires 10.4.11 or later, and I am running 10.3.9. Yes, for a price I could upgrade my OS X, but I'd rather just stick with what I have for now - or had anyway. Apple suddenly changed the way iTunes 7.4.1 operates on my computer.
I think it's odd that Apple could easily tell what version of OS X that this Mac is running, and determine that what they are trying to get me to download is not compatible. Why are they still pushing me to download software that is not compatible with my system configuration?
No matter where I click and/or drag, I can't minimize this advertisement for iTunes 10. It is annoying because it eats up a large area of the screen, leaving almost no room for my artist and track lists. Is there a secret trick to eliminate this ad?
Thank you for your help.

I'm sorry, but I also have that problem!/4.5.5/images/emoticons/sad.gif|_mce_src=/4.5.5/images/emoticons/sad.gi f|___jive_emoticon_name=sad|jivemacro=emoticon|class=jive_macro jive_emote|src=/4.5.5/images/emoticons/sad.gif!. It only seems to happen with iTunes 8, though. Not any of the earlier versions. I've been trying to find a solution for days and I've been looking at a lot of apple support discussions, but no solution has been found yet. I tried to update it once, and I had to reinstall my whole eMac with the original formatting discs! Do you have an eMac? Because if you have an iMac, then it will work.

  • HT1338 How do I quit the new iTunes as it fills the whole screen now?

The new iTunes seems to fill my entire screen and not sure anymore how to exit from it other than a forced quit. Suggestins?

    iTunes>Quit iTunes
To reduce the window size, look in the upper right corner you will see 2 symbols.  The left symbol will turn the window into a mini player.   The right symbol will decrease or increase the window size.

  • HT204053 Now I've got it totally screwed up.  I have one address for iCloud and another for iTunes.  I would rather have only 1 but can't make the forms fill out correctly to do that.  What now?

I've just bought my iPhone and have had an iTunes account for some time.  While setting up the iPhone - Apple ID - the form would not allow me to use my currect primary email address.  I had to insert another one because of the iTunes email address apparently.  Now I can't seem to get it straightened out.  I need my primary email address to be the only one and use a secondary address for the "rescue" address. How can I manage this without making everything worse?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You need to use the original Apple ID you used for iTunes with iTunes and iCloud on your new device. What problems did you encounter when you tried to do this.

  • A pop-up message is frozen on my settings page. I was trying to set up an apple id for iTunes when I got a message "required fields have been left blank. The missing information is highlighted in red." the ok button doesn't work. 1st gen iPad.

A pop-up message is frozen on my settings page. I was trying to set up an apple id for iTunes when I got a message "required fields have been left blank. The missing information is highlighted in red." the ok button doesn't work. The message is now fixed & I cannot get rid of it. Ironically, when I found this forum I was able to set up an apple Id. Please advise how to get rid of the pop-up box. Thanks!

I'm having this same problem as well and cannot advance--very irritating. All of the information is filled out correctly and I've editted my AppleID information online separately as well to get around this issue, but no luck...

  • HT201363 I cannot find the answers to my security questions for Itunes and cannot figure out how to reset them

I cannot find the answers to my security questions for ITunes and cannot figure out how to reset the questions.

You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions; ways of contacting them include phoning AppleCare and asking for the Account Security team, clicking here and picking a method for your country, and filling out and submitting this form.
They wouldn't be security questions if they could be bypassed without Apple verifying your identity.

downloaded the updated iTunes and that did nothing. I then went through the form about $ very VERY carefully and discovered one field left blank. Once that was filled in, everything worked and I now have my free app.

  • Ive just bought an iphone 5s from a friend,i reset it and its asking for a code for itunes gift card...do i have to have this?

ive just bought a iphone 5s from a friend..i reset it and while setting it back up in my name it ask for a code for itunes gift card..is this necessary? is there not a promo code..

If you mean that you are creating a new iTunes account then the gift card field is optional, it doesn't have to be filled in, you can enter your credit card details instead as your payment method - and no, there isn't a 'promo code'.
Or there are instructions on this page for creating a new account (e.g. on a computer's iTunes) without giving payment details : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2534
Or do you mean something else ?

  • How can I find the code for itunes gift cards?

for my account settings its telling me put in a code for my debt card. That I do not have and I selected none, now its saying that I need to put in a code for Itunes Gift cards to move on.

What are you doing with your account (creating it, buying something, ...) and what are you seeing on the screen e.g. are you getting any error message ? The iTunes gift card field is optional - and as iTunes gift cards are not available in all countries, and they are country-specific (they can only be redeemed and used in their country of issue), you may not be able to fill it in anyway.

  • TS1424 How do i reset the security questions for iTunes ?

I have forgotten the answers to the security questions for ITunes .what to do?

If you have a rescue email address set up on your account then you can try going to https://appleid.apple.com/ and click 'Manage your Apple ID' on the right-hand side of that page and log into your account. Then click on 'Password and Security' on the left-hand side of that page and on the right-hand side you might see an option to send security question reset info to your rescue email address.
If you don't have a rescue email address set up then go to Express Lane  and select 'iTunes' from the list of 'products' in the middle of the screen.
Then select 'iTunes Store', and on the next screen select 'Account Management'
Next choose 'iTunes Store Account Security' and fill in that you'd like your security questions/answers reset.
You should get an email reply within, I think, about 24 to 48 hours (and check your Spam folder as well as your Inbox)

  • Deleting Items on Apple TV and Ripping Videos for iTunes

I have two questions that if answered would take care of the only problems that I have had with my Apple TV and they are really not problems, just questions.
First, Apple suggests that if you have a slower wireless system it is better to sync and move copies of items to the Apple TV rather than stream. No problem. I moved my audio library to my Apple TV and it works great. It also said when syncing that it would removal those items that will fill up the Apple TV disk in an order of preference. My music library took up about 1/4 the space on the disk. I do not want any of my music removed if and when the disk starts to fill. I will watch movies that I have ripped from disks or other sources through my Apple TV but as I view those, I will either selectively manage them or want to delete them from the Apple TV disk.
My first question, is how do you selectively delete items from the Apple TV disk.
My second question is that as I convert video from what ever format they are in into Apple TV compatible format (H264 or MPEG4, I can get them on my desktop or actually onto the drive that holds all of my ITunes music. But how do I get them into the iTunes movie folder so I can sync them to my Apple TV since they were not downloaded through iTunes?
Any help would be much appreciated.

My first question, is how do you selectively delete items from the Apple TV disk.By deselecting them in the iTunes > Device > Category > Item listing. Like a DotMac account or the iPod, TV sychronizes files by "mirroring" your selections in the "host" iTunes application. When you modify your settings there, the changes will, with time, be reflected on the TV device drive.
But how do I get them into the iTunes movie folder so I can sync them to my Apple TV since they were not downloaded through iTunes?Assuming you are using the default "automatic" management system for iTunes, you simply open iTunes and either use the "Add to Library" File menu option to navigate to the file you wish to add to iTunes or "drag 'n drop" the file to the opened iTunes Library list. By default, unmodified video conversions will be classified in the "Movies" category and you should find them in that category of the library once the file is either copied to the iTunes Library or the path is copied to the iTunes Library database. (I prefer keeping all my files physically in my iTunes Library which is located on a dedicated external hard drive and deleting the original files from all other locations.)

  • HT2534 I have just created an Apple Id for itunes, it is allowing me to get to the debit card stage but they no longer accept Visa Debit, there is no other option for me as i dont have any other cards and there isnt a 'none' option! HELP!!

I have just created an Apple Id for itunes, it is allowing me to get to the debit card stage but they no longer accept Visa Debit, there is no other option for me as i dont have any other cards and there isnt a 'none' option! HELP!!

How did you create the account ? Unless you followed the instructions on the page that you post from exactly then you won't get the 'none' option and you will need to enter payment details - those instructions won't work on existing accounts.
I tried those instructions a week ago in response to another thread and I got the 'none' option on it e.g. on my computer's iTunes I logged out of my existing account, found a free app in the store, clicked on its 'free' price, clicked on 'create Apple id' on the popup, and after agreeing to the terms and filling in my details I was able to select 'none' as my payment option and download a free app with it.

  • "The iTunes Music Library fill is locked"

The full message is : "The iTunes Music Library fill is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have permission for this file." iTunes froze when trying to update my iPod, and now won't load at all. Sounds like some kind of cache is full, how do I remove it?
    Thanks
    James

In the Finder, select the iTunes folder (in ~/Users/YourUsername/Music)
    Get Info (command-I)
    Expand 'Ownership & Permissions:'.
    Expand 'Details:'
You must read: "You can Read & Write"
At 'Owner:': your username. Access: Read & Write
Make changes if necessary and click on the 'Apply to enclosed item...' button.
Also look at 'Locked' checkbox. It must not be checked.
    Hope this helps.
