Ad Hoc reports

Hi All,
Is BI 7.0 a better version when compared to 3.5 when it comes to ad hoc reporting. Ad hoc meaning 'one-off' or for a particular purpose as opposed to referring Ad Hoc Query tool in SAP.
If so, how.
Can anyone please throw some kight on this.
Thanks.
Monica

Try SSRS Ad Hoc Web Reporting and you will know immediately that is what you are looking for.

  • Generating Dynamic Query for Ad-Hoc Reports

    Hello,
What is the best way to create a dynamic query to generate ad-hoc reports? I have a couple of ideas but not sure which would work best and be most flexible.
I would like our users to be able to check checkboxes for what data they would like returned in their report. The data would be pulled from a number of tables, 10+, depending on what pieces of data they checked.
Should I write one dynamic query, with a bunch of IF statements in it?
Should I write many individual queries and then join them together in a temp query?
Should I create a temp table on our SQL server which contains the data from all of the tables; then query that? (I am worried about data being out-of-date with this option.)
Which one of these solutions should I go with or is there a better solution that I am not considering?
    Thanks for the help.
    Josh

Do you mean a Stored Procedure? Would the Stored Procedure then have one query on it with a bunch if IF statements? Maybe a bad example, but something like this?
    Yep.
I haven't written a proc for a coupla years (I have DB people to do that for me now, bless 'em), but every DB is different, so the approach will vary depending on what DB you have.  It's perhaps time to buy a book or do a google or something.

  • How can I add Benefit Salary to Ad Hoc Reporting?

    Hello,
Our Payroll department, who uses SAP Ad Hoc Reporting, would like to make the IT0168 Benefit Salary field available for reporting.  The infoset we use uses the logical database PNPCE, but there is no field for Benefit Reporting.  This is most likely because it's a calculated field.  Has anyone done this before?  How would I go about retrieving this calculation for use in Ad Hoc Reporting.  Is there a standard SAP report already out there that uses this field?  Any help would be appreciated!
    Kind Regards,
    Ryan

Try adding the field to IT0168 in your Info-set (through t-code sq02).  You may require the help of an ABAP programmer for the calculation.

Does Report Builder support ad hoc reporting on web application?
    Thanks

SSRS Ad Hoc Web Reporting has already existed. It is super easy to use and even a ten year old kid can create SSRS reports with it. You can also use it to create and modify SSRS reports from your mobile devices such as IPad, IPhone, Android Phone or Surface.

  • 11g Performance Issue because of cascading fiters in case of ad hoc reports

    Dear all,
i already tried to google for similar issues, but I haven't found anything so far.
We got a large database with about 10 dimension tables and 1 fact table (which has 77m rows). When doing ad hoc reporting, 2 or 3 filters are heavily used by the users. These filters seem to be cascading, i. e. the selection within a filter drop down depends on the values entered/selected in the other dropdowns.
When using prompts, i am able to disalbe this feature. See http://gerardnico.com/wiki/dat/obiee/dashboard_prompt
But how do I disable this feature for filters in ad hoc reports?
    Dear all
    Sven

I think I have to specifiy my source: It is option "Limit values by" in the dialogue box shown on http://gerardnico.com/wiki/dat/obiee/dashboard_prompt

  • What can be done to decrease the ad hoc report run time?

We are processing a weekly ad hoc report in background to show the unmitigated users within our production systems.  Currently the report for our HCM production system runs for at least 3 days.  We have about 116,000 users in the HCM system.  We are running GRC AC 10.0 SP16.  Our Basis resource performed a trace on the job and saw that the background process performs a full scan on the GRACMITUSER table and suggested that an index be placed on this table and that the query be updated to work with an index.  Is this a normal resolution?
Any insight you can give into this issue is appreciated.
    Thanks --
    Sara B.

    Dear Sara,
first of all google the SAP notes for "performance" as there are several notes in this regard. Second, not sure which program you run in background. Do you talk about the batch risk analysis?
You can define parallel processing so that the analyis runs in more background jobs: SPRO > GRC > AC > Distribute Jobs for Parallel Processing. Define the number of tasks for the application type GRAC_SOD.
This should drastically decrease the runtime. I have a client who has 40'000 users and the risk analysis could be reduced from 39 hours to 1 hour.
    Hope this helps.

  • Practical universe schema design for ad hoc reporting in web intelligence

    Hello Folks,
I am in the initial design phase of creating a universe out of normalized tables in oracle database. This current set of table are outside our data warehouse methodology and work flows. The new Universe will be used for ad hoc query by limited users. There are about 25-30 tables with employee data/attributes (mostly HR data). Since these tables are all dimensions with employee information on various subjects like education, address, training,*employee records* etc, what should be my join strategy with the existing table schema? where is concept of fact table?. Would you suggest any denormalizing/derived or materialized view to get the right end results. Or do you see any ETL process required before starting this task? My main concern is configuring joins between the tables and performance issue due to many joins in the current physical model. Additionally, i am concerned with employee records component in the structure, as each record of an employee may have multiple event history. How would you handle such a situation (maybe create a seperate context with the main factless fact Employee table??)
I will appreciate your insight and approach to tackle the initial planning phase of this project.
    Thanks

...due to the fact that with ad-hoc reports, the links, joins, cardinalities etc may differ from report to report depending on what each individual report would require.
Cardinalities are part of the data model, they should not change based on report requirements.
As far as the rest, yes, designing a flexible universe can be challenging. You have the option to set up different join paths (called contexts) for different functional areas, but in some cases it just makes sense to build more than one universe on top of the same data structures.
For an example, consider a very simple case where there is a relationship between an employee and the company motor pool (collection of company cars). The HR person wants to see all people even if they don't have cars assigned to them, so they would require an outer join from Employee to Car. The motor pool manager wants to see all cars, even those that are not currently assigned to a person, so they would require an outer join from Car to Employee. These two requirements are contradictory, and so cannot be designed into a single universe. That's not a problem, it's simply something that needs to be recognized and responded to. An HR person is not likely to care about when the next oil change is due, and the motor pool manager probably does not care about the hire date for a particular person.
Web Intelligence makes an excellent ad hoc query engine, but it does require some investment in a proper universe structure.

  • Isolating WebIntelligence ad hoc reports to specific Webi Report Processing Server

    Post Author: Lucia Chan
    CA Forum: WebIntelligence Reporting
Has anyone successfully isolated WebIntelligence ad hoc reports to be processed by specific Webi Report Processing Server?  We need to enforce governance on the database side.  We can restrict scheduling for Webi reports to specific Webi Report Processing Server, but not for ad hoc reports.  Otherwise is there a way to do connection override for scheduled Webi reports?

New version that's comming up SBO Bi4.0 will have bouilt in monitoring that will allow what you requesting.
In the current product line - this is not possible, unless you just monitor WIReportServer.exe at OS level and alert when it's memory or CPU usage goest too high... (if memory reaches close to and above 1.7gb - you're going into troubles.)
There are various fixes and improvements to Webi processing stability in recent fix and service packs, so if you're having webi instability - you should review latest FP fix issues list (in SMP to right of FP download there is an Info link - it leads to fixed issues docs).
If you do not see your issue listed - open incident with support - let them investigate.
Webi crashing when merging/unmerging dimentions sounds like a bug...

    Hi
You can use the SAP query and

for designing the reports without programming.
    see the links
    report painter/writer
Report Writer functions can be accessed from within the Report Painter.
The difference lies in the GUI of the report painter.

Step-by-step guide for creating ABAP query
    http://www.sappoint.com/abap/ab4query.pdf
ABAP query is mostly used by functional consultants.
    SAP Query
    Purpose
The SAP Query application is used to create lists not already contained in the SAP standard system. It has been designed for users with little or no knowledge of the SAP programming language ABAP. SAP Query offers users a broad range of ways to define reporting programs and create different types of reports such as basic lists, statistics, and ranked lists.
    Features
SAP Query's range of functions corresponds to the classical reporting functions available in the system. Requirements in this area such as list, statistic, or ranked list creation can be met using queries.
All the data required by users for their lists can be selected from any SAP table created by the customer.
To define a report, you first have to enter individual texts, such as titles, and select the fields and options which determine the report layout. Then you can edit list display in WYSIWYG mode whenever you want using drag and drop and the other toolbox functions available.
ABAP Query, as far as I Believe, is the use of select statements in the ABAP Programming. This needs a knowledge of Open SQL commands like Select,UPdtae, Modify etc. This has to be done only by someone who has a little bit of ABAP experience.
To sum up, SAP queries are readymade programs given by SAP, which the user can use making slight modification like the slection texts, the tables from which the data is to be retrieved and the format in which the data is to be displayed.ABAP queries become imperative when there is no such SAP query existing and also when there is a lot of customizing involved to use a SAP Query directly
    use either SQ02 ans SQ01
    or SQVI tr code

  • Using Crystal Reports for Ad-Hoc reporting

Is Crystal Reports capable of ad-hoc reporting? If so what of the myriad of products is the minimum that I would need to get started?

There are a few ways to get close to what you need.  The easiest way is to use Crystal Reports for Eclipse which is the product that contains an embedded version of the Cystal Reports designer.  This would allow users to design and connect the reports to datasources in a similar manner to Crystal Reports.  It isn't a fully featured version of CR, more of a basic version.  It will allow you to add charts, and you can open an already created template; the connectivity is limited to JDBC, JavaBeans, POJO classes, XML and Web Services.
You can also use the Crystal Report Java SDK to create your own adhoc pages that will allow you to perform the functionality you designer.  The API will allow you to do nearly anything you can do within Crystal Reports.
The above downloads are can be obtained freely from the Crystal Reports for Eclipse portal on SDN.  To distribute web applications internally, you do not require any additional licenses.  To sell your application or to distribute it externally, you require a Developer Advantage license.  See this link for more information about that:
    http://www.sap.com/solutions/sapbusinessobjects/sme/reporting/eclipse/technicaldetails/index.epx
For more information about the SDK and Embedded Designer, have a look at the Crystal Reports for Eclipse 2.0 Developer Guide AND API reference documentation in the SDK Library, the Business Objects Portal, on http://www.sdn.sap.com .

  • Overview City Model, Dashboards, Reports BW and Ad-hoc reporting

    Hello everyone,
We have different informations views from CCLM.
Overview City Model, Dashboards, Reports BW and Ad-hoc reporting.
I would like to know Which cubes and tables are Involved in each one of theses reports.
    I know Ad-hoc reporting (RAGS_CC_REPORTING) use the next tables: AGS_CC_QUALITY, AGS_CC_OBJECTS, AGS_CC_ATTRIB, AGS_CC_VERSION. AGS_CC_LAST_USG, AGS_CC_USAG, AGS_CC_SIMIL,  any more?
About City Model, I think It use table AGS_CC_CRIT and AGS_CC_QUALITY and Cube 0SM_CCITY, but I am not sure if its totally true or there are more.
About DashBoards I think it use Cube 0SM_ESRSG, cube 0SM_CCLM ??, table AGS_CC_QUALITY ?? but I am not sure....
The goal is to know, for example ATC quality in table AGS_CC_ATC_SYS you can´t view in the ad-hoc reporting...
    thanks and regards.
    Gerardo.

Our client uses XI 3.2 but is experiencing issues with Hierarchical BEX queries returning blanks - the mdx is fine - just webi that seems to have a problem and I'm also trying to determine in exactly which instances this occurs.
XI 4.x supposedly resolves mots issues but here again details are not known.
I.e. hopefully someone can point to an info source that describes in more detail what issues are likely to occur re hierarchies and webi.
