AD Replication error 5: Access is denied or 2146893022: target principal name is incorrect

Hello,
I have DC1(fsmo role holder) and DC2 which were replicating.  I ran windows update on DC1 and rebooted which it had not done in months.  When it came back up  I could run repadmin /showrepl successfully on DC1.  However when running on
DC2 I get the "2146893022: target principal name is incorrect" message.
I understand you can run the "netdom resetpwd /s:server /ud:<var style="box-sizing:border-box;margin:0px;padding:0px;color:#333333;font-family:'Segoe
UI regular', 'Segoe UI', Arial, Tahoma, sans-serif;font-size:13px;font-weight:bold;line-height:16px;">mydomain</var>\administrator
/pd:*"  command but I am unsure:
1.  Where would I run this command
2. Which server goes in th"/s:server"?  Would it be the DC1 or the DC2?

How would this look with information below and what DC would I run it from?
netdom resetpwd /s:<var style="color:#333333;font-family:'Segoe UI', Arial, Verdana, Tahoma, sans-serif;font-size:13px;font-weight:bold;line-height:normal;">server</var> /ud:<var

  • Replication issues: Operations Master shows ERROR and attempting to connect to server shares gets "the target account name is incorrect"

I think this should be easily resolved, but I need some guidance.
I have a client with 2 Server 2003 R2 x64 DCs: BORIS & NATASHA. Last year I upgraded both of them from x86 to x64 one at a time, allowing replication to occur between the upgrades. BORIS is the FSMO roles holder as it is currently the production server,
while NATASHA is a backup DC. One thing that puzzles me though is that if I look at the NS record in DNS on the SOA tab, it says NATASHA is the Primary server.
While doing some routine maintenance I noticed an error in the File Replication Service events about a 'Tombstone' situation (Event ID 2042). I looked at article cc757610 in the Technet Library and opted for remedy #3 as I did not want to demote NATASHA
and I got confused looking at the help about using "repadmin /removelingeringobjects". I have no idea how to determine which DC has the good copy of the directory.
Now, in running "repadmin /showrepl" I get
    "DC=CPA,DC=local
        Default-First-Site-Name\BORIS via RPC
            DC object GUID: 0267a090-1890-40e2-9a15-ea928cabd425
            Last attempt @ 2012-12-27 08:28:55 failed, result -2146893022 (0x80090322):
The target principal name is incorrect.
1179 consecutive failure(s).        Last success @ 2012-12-21 23:30:15." <-- THIS IS WEIRD SINCE THIS IS THE DATE THAT I DISCOVERED THE TOMBSTONE EVENT AND MADE THE REGISTRY CHANGE
    (I THINK).
When I try to look at the FSMO roles on NATASHA, it shows ERROR for RID, PDC & Infrastructure and says "The current Operations Master is offline. The role cannot be transferred." The other issue I'm having is that client PCs are intermittently having
trouble reconnecting to necessary server shares.

    Hello Sandesh,
I spent a lot of time trying to understand using NETDOM to reset machine account passwords (don't understand it yet), but I see that you're saying that won't work anyway.
I'm not really sure how to tell which DC is the broken one, but I'm assuming it's BORIS since that's the one users are unable to connect to. Since it is the FSMO role holder and GC I want to make sure I understand the steps correctly:
1.Use dcpromo to forcefully demote BORIS
2.Do metadata cleanup on NATASHA (using ntdsutil?)
    3.Promote BORIS again to DC
Should I leave NATASHA as the FSMO role holder and GC? BORIS is the better (more resources/faster processor) machine and it's the file server. Or should the better machine be the FSMO role holder and GC as well as the file server. NATASHA is meant to be
a backup in case BORIS dies.

    Hi,
The step you are performing is correct but you also need to seize the FSMO role on other DC if BORIS is FSMO role holder and configure authorative time server role. You can later move the famo role to  BORIS server the choice is your however if you are
moveing the role then you need configure authorative time server on BORIS server.

  • Error 5: Access is Denied While using OSCDIMG to create Winpe x86 ISO with Deployment Tools Command Prompt

Technician computer is Windows 7 HP x64.
    Running latest version of WAIK.
Goal: To make a Winpe disc for each processor architecture (AMD64, x86, IA64) with an included Gimage.exe using this code for the default startnet.cmd file found in system32 directory of winpe boot.wim
    wpeinit
    if /i %PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE%==amd64 (
    cd x64
    start gimagex.exe
    if /i %PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE%==ia64 (
    cd x64
    start gimagex.exe
    if /i %PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE%==x86 (
    cd x86
    start gimagex.exe
These are the commands I have processed for the x86 variant:
    copype x86 c:\pe\x86\
    Dism /mount-wim /wimfile:C:\pe\x86\winpe.wim /index:1 /mountdir:C:\mount
**It is at this point I copy over my x86 folder, x64 folder, and overwrite the startnet.cmd file.
    dism /unmount-wim /mountdir:C:\mount /commit
    oscdimg -n bc:\pe\x86\etfsboot.com c:\pe\x86\iso c:\pe\x86.iso
^^It is at this command I receive this error:
ERROR: Could not delete existing file "c:\pe\x86\iso"
    Error 5: Access is denied.
Please note that all commands before were hand-typed, no copy or pasting from any directory or .chm
One thread referred to some Application Management service, but I can report that there is no such service installed in my machine.
    Thank You!
    UPDATE:
I copied the winpe.wim file from the x86 root directory into the iso directory and renamed it to boot.wim Now, if I copy the contents to a flash drive and put it into a client
computer, it boots to the PE perfectly, script and all.
However, when trying to use the oscdimg command, I do get an .iso successfully, but when I burn it, I don't know what to do in the way of boot options, and if I keep defaults (imgburn)
it results in an un-bootable dvd.
    Suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Don't copy and paste instead type manually it will work.
    [email protected]
OMG! Yes, you are correct ... but I have no idea why! I retyped the command line:
    oscdimg -n -be:\winpe_amd64\etfsboot.com e:\winpe_amd64\ISO e:\winpe_amd64\winpe_amd64.iso
into Notepad, and then pasted it into the Command Prompt, and it worked!
Perhaps there must be some hidden characters included when pasting directly, even though I first pasted the command line into Notepad, and then into Command Prompt
    (C:\Program Files\Windows AIK\Tools\PETools>).
I had to retype the command line in Notepad before copying and pasting, before it would work.
    Wow, thanks!

  • Unable To Execute Files In The Temporary Directory. Setup Aborted. Error 5: Access Is Denied.

    Hi Everyone,
Whenever I install some new software in my new laptop I get this error:-
Unable To Execute Files In The Temporary Directory. Setup Aborted. Error 5: Access Is Denied.
I have tried synchronizing the clocks but it doesn't remove the problem.
These softwares work on another laptop that i have, which also runs windows 7.
Can someone please tell me the solution as this is extremely urgent.
    Thanks In Advance.
    -Michael

    In short:
    ============
My permissions were all fine, so if anyone has trouble resolving the issue after sorting permissions then make sure you try fully disabling your anti-virus / anti-spyware / firewall applications, because that was the cause for me.
    In detail:
    ============
    Problem:
    Failed to install this application
    - http://www.ssware.com/cryptoobfuscator/download.htm
    - on Windows 8.1 x64
    - Get error message "Unable To Execute Files In The Temporary Directory. Setup Aborted. Error 5: Access Is Denied."
    First Candidate Solution
The issue turns out to NOT be security rights on the Temp folder
ESET Smart Security HIPS Advanced Memory Scanner is the cause
    http://kb.eset.com/esetkb/index?page=content&id=SOLN2908&actp=search&viewlocale=en_US&searchid=1392804914417
Instead, I went and turned off all the ESS protections one by one and it turned out to be HIPS that is causing this false positive.
In fact, it is the Advanced Memory Scanner option under HIPS that is causing the error, while the application in question is legit (using Inno Setup and presumably trying to write to the user temp folder, not sure whether just logs or to execute from there)
Furthermore, Smart Security logs have no entries under HIPS even though I ticked "Log all blocked operations" under the HIPS "Advanced setup" - it was quite a journey to find out the cause :)
Thank you. I have the same OS and installed ESET Smart Security as well. And it is resolved now.
I just want to add, that by "Temporarily disable protection" and "Temporarily disable firewall", it doesn't work. You have to disable HIPS, as KristjanL said.

Finally I found solution and was able to bring back online the SQL Services...
I had a very similar issue with the following error (event log):

initerrlog: Could not open error log file 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\LOG\ERRORLOG'.
Operating system error = 5(error not found).
In this case the ERRORLOG file had been marked as read only. This was following a scheduled automated boot.  -This
    was culprit
MSSQL wouldn't not start until this file had been changed.

Yes on both of your questions. This is why I am confused as to why this is happening and the really strange this it happens maybe 2 times out of 10 (give or take).

  • When editing DHCP Scope in IPAM, get "Error: 5 - Access is denied"

    Hello all!
I have a pair of Server 2012 DHCP servers configured for Failover.  I also have a Server 2012 IPAM server that manages the first server in that pair, but not the second one.  The reason is that I have the DHCP Failover Auto Config Sync tool running
on the first server and it can only be installed on one server of a Failover pair.
So, my diagram would look something like this:
    IPAM --manages--> DHCP 1 <--Failover/Auto Sync--> DHCP 2
So, here is my problem.  I can make a change to a DHCP Scope directly on DHCP 1 and it is instantaneously replicated to DHCP 2.  That is no problem.
But, when I try to edit the same Scope through IPAM, it fails and returns the following error: (Error:5 - Access is denied.)
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
One of our service engineers here was able to reproduce the problem by removing the
IPAM computer account from the IPAMUG security group in Active Directory.
Interestingly, doing this does not change the status of the server from green to red in terms of manageability.
Can you please check and see if this is the problem?
    Thanks,
    -Greg
P.S. If this is not the problem, please answer a few more questions:
Is the IPAM and DHCP server joined to the same domain?
Are they multihomed servers or have only one NIC?
Are you using the same user account on IPAM and DHCP server?
Note: I tried reproducing this and when the IPAM server is removed from the IPAMUG group it does cause Error 5 - Access is denied, however I was able to get the status to turn red after doing this. I think it is critical that an Active Directory update
occur, so you should try running gpupdate /force on your DC, DHCP server, and IPAM server.

I bought my machine with Vista preloaded. I installed Windows 2003 on it. - using a fresh 2003 Enterprise Server Windows 2003 disk.
Now, While installing the SAP R/3 4.7x, I am getting the same error. Do you all think that I should add the permissions to SAP id's and then try. I am doing all the work as the system administrator. I also gave full permissions to all the drives. But one thing I did not do is to create partitions.
    I have C: Drive and H Drive.
I installed my Windows 2003 on H drive and I now want to install SAP on the C drive. Would that be a problem.
    Here are my details:
    Machine: 2003 Enterprise
    RAM: 5 GB ( Yes, It is 5 )
    Hard Drive: SATA RAID Intel
    Partitions: C: ( 220GB) and H: 10GB
    Database: Oracle 9.2.1 with patches
    SAP: 4.7x
I keep getting the Access denied error all the time.
    Please help.
    SAPuser.

    Any ideas?

It looks like the SQL Server service account doesn't have the needed registry permissions.  This may be because the account was changed directly using service control manager instead of using the SQL Server Configuration tool.
Try changing the SQL Server service account using the SQL Server Configuration tool to another account temporarily and then back to the desired one and restart SQL Server.  This should assign the permissions the service account requires.

  • Server2012: system error 5 access is denied

I can successfully log in as administrator to this virtual server after connecting through HyperV. The server time is OK. When I run net user from Power Shell, it displays the two existing accounts (admin and guest). When I try and add a new user, I get
the system error 5 access is denied message.

Simply do it using an elevated prompt. Do a right click then choose run as administrator
option before running Powershell. If you still have the access denied issue then double check your local permissions.

I have a sql server stored proc that I have successfully created the artifacts for as specified in documentation I had rec'd in a prior thread. Now, when I go to deploy, I immediately get the error:

I have verified the path to the lib folder as specified in my genterate.bat file to create the artifacts. It is shown below. I am not sure what I need to do.

at which step do you try to navigate or generate something to this lib folder? (can you paste that code? )
you do this by using a full path or relative ?
