AD RMS in a DR Scenario

Hi Guys
I have a production site and a cold DR site. I am planning on implementing 1 RMS and 1 SQL server at the production site. However, I need to mirror this to the DR site. However, I am not sure how? Any advice???

To provide disaster recovery for the AD RMS server, you would typically join another server to the AD RMS cluster. Then both servers will use the same URL, database, and configuration. If one goes down, end users can still use the other to access

Office 2013 RMS Client Configuration - Your Machine is not setup for IRM

Hi All,
I have successfully setup a test AD RMS farm but stuck at trying to configure Office 2013 to work with this. The farm configuration is as below
DC: Windows 2003
AD RMS Server: Windows 2008/ SQL Server 2008 R2
Client: Windows 7 64 bit with Office 2013 32 bit, Domain Joined
Client is domain joined and SCP has been successfully registered ( I can see the SCP in AD RMS properties).
When I open word and select Protect Document -> Restrict Access, the only option is to Connect to RMS Server and get template, which eventually gives an error
Your Machine isn't setup for Information Rights Management (IRM). To set up IRM, sign in to office, open an existing IRM protected message or document, or contact your help desk.
Surprisingly, when I open a document protected by IRM (from a different machine), IRM is automatically configured for the user and starts working from that point. However any new domain user login into this client faces the same issue.
Can anyone help identify the required registry keys that need to be present for getting this working on the client.

To install Microsoft Deployment Agent, you must be a member of the Windows
Administrators security group on the computer where you will install it. You must also be a member of the
Release Manager role in Release Management.
From the log, the user you‘re using seems not in the local administrator group. Please make sure the corresponding users has the needed permissions to install the deployment agent. Please check this

RMS and offline purchase order creation

Hi,
We are currently in CRP for RMS13 and discussing the options for buyers to have something on their laptop for PO creation while at the vendor or factory.
Unfortunately in the far Far East, the buyers tell us that internet bandwidth is scarse and/or unstable, hence remote access to RMS through e.g. Citrix-VPN may be an option, however not sufficient.
How do you approach this?
We are exploring an offline laptop application that has copies of relevant RMS foundation and item data, and when hooked up at RMS can ideally create the PO over RIB.
As we prefer packaged solutions over home built (buy-vs-build), is there anything on the market that you can recommend?

Creation of Purchase Order with t.code: ME21N with account assignment category C (sales order) is used for Time and Material Expenses with third party scenario and you need to enter sales order number and respective G/L account . In this scenario 1st a sales order is created with a material( material created DIEN material type) & then purchase order created with respect to sales order.
Here you provide service to your customer and this service you procure from your vendor, you just play middle role for providing and getting service.Standard DIEN material type designed for Sales usage only, so you create sales order for service material.Service master is used to get service from vendor with item category D with proper account assignment category as C
Example:
Material type DIEN is used for when you offer "SERVICE" to your customer.( The steps are (VA01,VF01,VF04,F-28), If u used HR module( you can used with sales order with t.codes are: CAT2,CATS_APPR_LITE,CAT7,PR05,PRRW,PRFI)
Service Master records(AC01)ESM is used when you procure "SERVICE" from your vendor.( Steps are: ME21N with Item Cat. "D" with Acc. ***. Cat. "C", ML81N,MIRO & F-53).

Cross-docking in RMS.

Can anybody let me know how cross-docking works in RMS?
If a allocation meant for cross-docking is creates, does it have to be associated to a PO that time itself.

From the Allocations user guide:
Cross Dock: A purchase order is created that directs the goods from the
supplier to a warehouse where it is immediately allocated to the proper store
or warehouse.
From RAL you can generate POs (WhatIf-functionality), and for cross dock, the PoType should hence be set to CrossDock.
This will generate a PO with associated predist allocation.
I think that the allocation indeed needs to be associated to a PO, because it is a PO that is being cross-docked.
Maybe you can create the PO first, independently, in RMS, and then add later and allocation to it to define the cross-dock details.

For me it is not clear from the RMS user guide whether Cross Dock POs generate allocations to execute the move from WH to store, or transfers (transfertype=CrossDockPO), or that both may occur, in different business scenarios.

I need inputs related to below queries
1.High level understanding of Retail stock ledger,Retail sales audit and Retail invoice matching modules.
2. Accounting events that happen in this modules and how your expecting data for the same.
3.Retail stock ledger and sales audit modules interfaces data directly to General Ledger module.i would like to know the kind of data it interfaces,frequency and level of Detail.
4.At the time of interfacing the data to Oracle Financials,will there be any validations happening and how do you handle errors.
5.In the Retail invoice matching module,if i am not wrong only sucessfully matched invoices will be interfaced to staging tables.When i import those invoice information, will invoice get created in AP automatically or do we need to manually punch in the data.
5.How do you handle Returns to suppliers.
6.At what level PO/Invoices will be raised,is at DC or store level.
7.How is accounting done for the below scenarios
A. When PO is raised
B. When you receive Items
C. When invoices are recorded and matched

See the merchandise integration guide and the operation guide of RMS (pretty good for a starter, though not more than a glimpse.)
Usually a specialized consulting firm will have the people with the experience and knowledge of these areas at hand to assist you.
I think if you really want to have these questions answered, you must hire a specialist consultant - I don't expect the forum to fill in those gaps for you, but who knows.
Also the CRP of an implementation project will deal with some of your questions, the CRP being lead by a subject matter expert (SME).

AD-RMS with SharePoint Document Access from Internet

I have a single AD-RMS Server running on 2008 R2 and SQL 2008 R2
I have sharePoint 2010 Published to Internet.
I need to integrate AD-RMS with SharePoint instep to provide access for my docuements through SHarepoint internet.
My Questions:
Using my single AD-RMS Server with SharePoint Intergration can all AD users access SharePoint from outside to be able to open encrypted documents?
Is this artical (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee259515(WS.10).aspx) also work on SP 2010? is it the same steps?
Do I need AD FS in my case?
Do I need SSO in my case?

Hi Jean,
1. to make that working the Internet users need to authenticate against the RMS server as well. So you need to publish this server. Depending on your network policy you can just reverse proxy the RMS server or in a more complex scenario to have another server
in a DMZ AD to facilitate that. Because you publish the Sharepoint Server to the Internet I assume you do not have a complex scenario.
I hope you have chosen the URL for the RMS cluster wisely, so that it can be address from the Internet.
2. I am not a big Sharepoint guy, but it looks familiar.
3. No, you don't.
4. No, but would be nice if the users do not have to authenticate twice. Will require a reverse proxy, e.g. TMG (what is discontinued) or similar.

I have scenario where I have TWO 2008 R2 AD forests with cross forest trust and also I have some workgroup Win7 Machines.
I wanted to deploy AD RMS in any one forest (Say Forest A), as forced by customer
Is it possible that My forest B users can protect documents with AD RMS in Forest (A)
OR
Is it possible that my workgroup computers can protect documents with AD RMS of Forest A? Can I use user credentials from forest A to protect documents on workgroup computer
OR
Lets take a scenario:
I create user in forest A with addition of email address of forest B user
I share this ID to respective forest B user, forest B user logged on to forest B computer
Now can forest B computers can protect documents with AD RMS from forest A by entering forest A user id \ password when RMS prompts for authentication?

Here, there are some responsibilities in Production System.
Answer for fist question is maintaining documentation (in ms word ) for all support related activities like
a) frequently occurred data load monitoring errors as part of process chains
b) how to analyze whether load is running for long time
c) what ever the tickets with proper priority we have to raise. ex: if a load cause affecting more reports , we have to raise p2 ticket . Depends upon the impact of loads on report availability.
Answer for second question :
In prod.support, we have to monitor info package groups or process chains because loads are automatized using pchains or ipgroups. . whenever a load failed as part of pchains or ipg's , we have to analyse the load why it is failed. Loads may be failed due to reasons like memory issues, attribute change run locking issues and sid issues etc.
Answer for third questions:
In perigreen ticketing tool, we can check tickets like system generated tickets and customer generated tickets . For example,. Tivoli tickets are system generated tickets because whenever pchain is not triggered or any process of pchain has failed, system automatically will raise the tickets.
Custom generated tickets means as part of daily loads, any failures happened, with proper priority ,we will raise the ticket to appropriate resolution groups. ( Incident management tickets )
Rms means Request management tickets are requests raised by client. For example if they want adhoc loads on the part of mexico markets, they will raise the Rm and sent it to the offshore queue.
Answer for fourth question:
We can maintain excel sheet, it comprises of what are the loads have failed with the error information as part of process chains or ipg's and maintain the logs for manual loads
daily how many loads are failed ,successful and what are the total loads , can check in RSMO.That information we can maintain in excel sheet.
Root cause Analysis is nothing but giving permanent solution to the frequent errors.

we see the below message, if we try to open an e-mail that was sent using a custom AD RMS template.
We get that why we are seeing this. This is normal. I just want to check if there is a way we can customize this message ? We can configure it as per our requirement? I don't want everyone to see this. I want something else should be displayed in such scenarios.

There WAS a registy key caled DownlevelText that you could modify to change this message, but I don't think is supported in Office 2013.

When I try to add a file classification [using 2012 R2 FCI] to RMS protected files , it fails ..if I keep the same file as not AD RMS protected , the classification rule work and apply the classification..Could I know why it fails , I already enabled
& added my file server into RMS super users group...
I created a file management task to apply RMS template to classified files and it work perfectly , but again if the file is already applied with a different AD RMS template, then my management task is not changing that template to what I specified in

In TUD environment , how the client in forest1 know about the licensing server in forest2 which issued the license to author who is located in the forest2 ? pls give me some URL/info about AD RMS client discovery in TUD env

If it's protected by another RMS server (with exchanged TUD) then Super User isn't going to help. The license will be requested against the other RMS server and that user will not exist there.

it's not supposed to, and i've never read of that happening before (and worst case scenario, you reinstall the loops from the GB DVD)
P.S. anyone that doesn't have a 100% up-to-date backup of their drive will not only loose their loops one day, but everything else as well. hard drives fail, this is not an "if" or a "maybe", only a "when."

Scenario Mapping-BOM

Dear All,
I have one FG material called A,which will be produced from 5 Raw materials.
All 5 raw materials are from same family but the chemical composition is different.
Now my problem is,If i create PIR for FG of 1000 kg,The BOM component qty is not same for whole 1000 kg of FG.And also if the stock is there for only 3 Raw materials they will use only 3 raw materials in different qty to get the desired Quality of FG.
Here the BOM components & Component Qty is not fixed,Its totally depends on the present stock.
Can any body suggest me how to map this scenario?

Here In BOM of FG total qty of components is Fixed.For example
I have one FG mat A & 5 RMs B,C,D,E & F. To produce 100kg of FG mat A the total RMs qty required is fixed i.e. (BCDEF=100kg) but the RMs qty in BOM will keep on varying.Some times they will use 20kg each,some times they use for ex B=10kg,C=20kg,D=30kg,E=10kg,F=30kg.The total components qty is fixed but each component qty in BOM will vary for the same order & some time they will use only 3 RM some times they will use 2RMs.
Is there any option to map this scenario?

Averaging using the 'basic DC/RMS' VI

I seem to end up using the 'basic DC/RMS' VI quite a bit to average my data from my DAQ system. However I have a question regarding what is happening 'under the hood'.
Let's say for simplicity I acquire data at 1kHz in blocks of 1000 samples.
So, every 1 second I shove 1000 samples into the basic DC/RMS VI, as a waveform data type.
This means that the 'DC' and 'RMS' outputs will update at a rate of 1 second.
The question is, is the averaging 'continuous'? In the sense that if I were doing 'proper' low pass filtering (averaging is just the same as low pass filtering) - say simple FIR with n taps - in DSP then the filter output would have to update at the same rate as the data input; ie. the taps would 'move along' the input data at the same rate as the input data goes into the filter. I'm guessing based on my explanation above that this is not what is happening. Instead, the DC/RMS VI is averaging an entire block of 1000 samples, and then 'jumping' 1000 samples along and doing the next block.
This isn't necessarily a problem, but it is not true low pass filtering and I can image some scenarios where there could be artefacts because the averaging filter is jumping 1000 samples each time it takes an average. I suppose the only alternative is to implement the filtering in a much higher speed loop and this could be problematic at higher sampling rates.
Anyone got any thoughts on this? Am I worrying about nothing?

Hi Dave,
The "Basic Averaged DC-RMS" function is designed to work only with continuous acquisitions, it will throw a warning is the signal is not continuous. When you open the function and look at the code underneath the function there is a subVI with state information which allows the function to continue the average from the previous block of data.
For this reason we supply a reset terminal if you need "forget" the previous calculations.
A lot of this is discussed in the detailed help on the function, but as always sometimes you have to get your hands dirty to find out how the code actually works and look at the code.
