AD RMS - Windows Internal Database - Cluster

Hello ,
Regarding this post about ADFS configuration:
"In a farm with WID as the database, the first server in the farm act as the primary server and host a read / write copy of the database . Secondary servers replicate inbound Then the configuration data Into Their read-only database . "
I would like to do the same thing for my AD RMS configuration in order to avoid an external SQL Server cluster.
Therefore , I have 2 AD RMS server organized as a cluster and I would like a system of primary / secondary WID as databases . For ADFS , they speak about a server farm , is it possible to do so for AD RMS ?
Many thanks and sorry for my english..

What are the limits of using windows internal database in RMS?
    tnx

    Hi,
the main limitation is that you cannot access a SQL express from remote (even there are tricks to work around that), so you cannot add another machine to the RMS cluster.
Microsoft's recommendation for production systems is to use a full SQL server, what allows you clustering and running all sorts of maintenance tasks.
Other than that SQL Express has a 10GB total limitation for all databases running on that server.
See also http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd772673(v=WS.10).aspx for RMS hardware and software requirements.
    Hope that helps,

  • Windows Internal Database on Windows Server 2012 - How can I find out what role or feature is using it?

We have setup many roles and features and apparently one of them is using the Windows Internal Database (WID). We have had some events logged for WID and need to troubleshoot them. But we are not sure which role/feature is using it. How can I find
    this out?

    Hi,
Several components of Windows Server 2008 and 2012 use Windows Internal Database for their data storage: Active Directory Rights Management Services, Windows System Resource Manager, UDDI Services, Active Directory Federation Services 2.0, IPAM and Windows

Which role did you setup or what is the error message did you received?

  • Remote connect to Windows Internal Database from another server

    Hello,
I have a WSUS server which has Windows Internal Database installed. Now If I have to manage the database using SQL Server management studio, then I need to connect using the Server Name as \\.\pipe\MSSQL$MICROSOFT##SSEE\sql\query
Now, if I want to connect to the server that has Windows Internal Database installed, but does not have SQL Server Management Studio installed, then how to connect?
    Please advice. Thanks in advance.
    Rajiv

You can either install SQL Server management Studio or SQLCMD and then work with Windows Internal Database
Both of these are freely downloadable from microsoft website.
Please find the links for SQL 2014

  • Server 2012: Windows Internal Database error during installation

I am using the current RC build.
While trying to install IPAM services, I am prompted to install a Windows Internal Database.
However, setup consistently dies on me with an error that "The operation could not be completed, because the server that you specified requires a restart".
OK, fine. I restart the server and start setup again and I get the error again. Anyone seen this before?

Open up your domain group policy editor.
Navigate to the Default Domain Policy
Navigate to Policies -> Windows Settings -> Security Settings -> Local Policy -> User Rights Assignment
Find the “Log on as a service” policy and edit it.
Click on “Add user or group” button.
Add the following users: NETWORK, NETWORK SERVICE, SERVICE
Got to your Server 2012 machine and open an elevated command prompt.
Type in: gpupdate /force. Wait for it to successfully complete
Now try and install the WID .
You should now have successfully completed the installation.
This worked for me.  I created a GPO for the container that the server was in, and applied the users as you showed.  After a GPUPDATE /FORCE everything worked great, I was able to install the WID and then was able to install WSUS.
Thank you for this help and greetings from the US.

    Hi all
How do I install Oracle 10g on Windows 2000 cluster (MSCS installed)?
I have a 2-nodes Microsoft windows 2003 server cluster and I want to install Oracle 10g,
    Do I folloow this order:
    1. Install the software on both without the database
    2. Create the database from the first node
in this case, The second node can see the database as it is available?,
and what about the IP adresses?
If you can point me to some documentation, or help in any way, I would appreciate it.

  • How to Perform Forced Manual Failover of Availability Group (SQL Server) and WSFC (Windows Server Failover Cluster) with scrpiting

I have a scenario with the three nodes with server 2012 standard, each running an instance of SQL Server 2012 enterprise, participate in a
single Windows Server Failover Cluster (WSFC) that spans two data centers.
If the nodes in the primary data center are unavailable due to data center outage. Then how I can able to access node in the WSFC (Windows Server Failover Cluster) in the secondary disaster recovery data center automatically with some script.
I want to write script that can be able to check primary data center by pinging some IP after every 5 or 10 minutes.
If that IP is unable to respond then script can be able to Perform Forced Manual Failover of Availability Group (SQL Server) and WSFC (Windows Server Failover Cluster)
Can you please guide me for script writing for automatic failover in case of primary datacenter outage?

You are trying to implement manually what should be happening automatically in the cluster. If the primary SQL Server becomes unavailable in the data center, it should fail over to the secondary SQL Server automatically.  Is that not working?
You also might want to run this configuration by some SQL experts.  I am not a SQL expert, but if you have both hosts in the data center in a cluster, there is no need for replication between those two nodes as they would be accessing
the database from some form of shared storage.  Then it looks like you are trying to implement Always On to the DR site.  I'm not sure you can mix both types of failover in a single configuration.
FYI, it would make more sense to establish a file share witness in your DR site instead of placing a third node in the data center for Node Majority quorum.

  • The lease timeout between avaiability group and the Windows Server Failover Cluster has expired

    Hi,
I am having some issues where I get a lease timeout from time to time.  I have a Windows 2012 Failover Cluster with 2 nodes and 2 SQL 2012 Always-on Availability Groups.  Both nodes
are a physical machines and each node is the primary for an AG.
    From what I understand if
    the HealhCheckTimeout
is exceeded without the signal exchange the lease is declared 'expired' and the SQL Server resource dll reports that the SQL Server availability group no longer 'looks alive' to the Windows cluster manager.  Here are the properties I have setup
    which are the default settings:
    LeaseTimeout - 20000
    HealthCheckTimeout - 30000
    VerboseLoging - 0>
    FailureConditionLevel – 3
Here are the events that occur in the Application Event Viewer:
    Event ID 19407:
The lease between availability group 'AG_NAME' and the Windows Server Failover Cluster has expired. A connectivity issue occurred between the instance of SQL Server and the Windows Server Failover
Cluster. To determine whether the availability group is failing over correctly, check the corresponding availability group resource in the Windows Server Failover Cluster.
    Event ID 35285:
The recovery LSN (120881:37533:1) was identified for the database with ID 32. This is an informational message only. No user action is required.
SQl server logs are too long to post in this box but I can send them if you request.
The AG is setup to failover automatically but it did not failover.  I am trying to figure out why the lease timed out.  Thanks.

From what I've been able to find out, this is due to an issue with the procedure sp_server_diagnostics.  It sounds like the cluster is expecting this procedure to regularly log good status "Clean" in the log files, but the procedure is designed not
to flood the logs with "Clean" messages, so only reports changes, and does not make an entry when the last status was "Clean" and the current status is "Clean".  The result is that the cluster looks to be unresponsive.  However, once it initiates
the failover, the primary machine responds, since it was never really down, and the failover operation stops.
The end result is that there really never is a failover, but the database becomes unavailable for  a few minutes while this is resolved.
I'm going to try setting the cluster's failure condition level to 2 (instead of 3) and see if that prevents the down time.

  • Failover of ASCS takes very long on a Windows Server 2008 Cluster

    Hello everybody,
I have configured a ABAP SCS (NetWeaver 7.0) running on a Windows Server 2008 Cluster. The database runs on SQL Server 2008 which is also configured for use in the MSCS. The ASCS and the database run fine in the Cluster. So far so good.
When I want to move the SAP Group which contains the ASCS from on node the other node, then the failover will take very long (approximately 2-3 minutes). The Service of the group will go offline in a few seconds, but the Instance needs about 1 minute to go offline and on the other node it needs more then one minute to become online.
The failover of the databaseinstance will take only about 10 seconds.
Have you got any ideas why the failover of the SAP Group will take so long?
Thanks for your help in advance!
    Kind Regards,
    Wolfgang

One minute would be somewhat long if you are running a faster server and just the ABAP environment. But I've seen ABAP/JAVA systems take up to 10 minutes to restart on a win 2005 clustered system.
Have you looked through the developer traces?

  • ACS internal database replication

I have setup ACS internal database replication and it works once then the secondary config is overwritten and doesn't contain the AAA server of the primary.
    primary               - 10.100.253.25
    ACS 1113 running 4.2
    secondary          - 10.100.253.26
    ACS 1113 running 4.2
    Example of before and after
    Before replication
The primary has these AAA servers listed under network components.
    self - 127.0.0.1
    acs2 - 10.100.253.26
The secondary has these AAA servers listed under network components.
    self - 127.0.0.1
    acs1 - 10.100.253.25
    After replication
The primary has these AAA servers listed under network components.
    self - 127.0.0.1
    acs2 - 10.100.253.26
The secondary has these AAA servers listed under network components.
    self - 127.0.0.1
    acs2 - 10.100.253.26
therefore after the first replication subsequent attempts will fail because the secondary won't accept attempts from unknown AAA servers. Is this to be expected or can I mitigate it in someway?

Please try setting the original ip address by using "Set ip" Command from the console connection of the ACS Solution engine. Once you successfully changed the ip address, you can apply the patch 11 or above (latest is patch 16) on the ACS SE (This will fix the problem).
In majority of cases set ip command fails but sometime works too.
In case it doesn't help then we have 2 options:
1.] Open a TAC case, send the database file to delete the entry.
2.] If you are not intrested sending your database then try the below listed steps:
In order to remove the loopback entry from the Database, we need to follow following steps,
Please download ACS 4.2 trial from following link, if you do not have ACS Full version for Windows purchased.
    http://www.cisco.com/cgi-bin/tablebuild.pl/acs-win-eval- eval-ACS-4.2.0.124-SW.zip
[1] Install eval version on Windows 2000/2003 server. Please also ensure that JAVA is installed on that server.
[2] Take a backup from ACS SE from, System Configuration > ACS Backup >Backup Now.
[3] Restore the database backup on ACS eval.
[4] On eval ACS , go to Network Configuration > find the AAA Server entry with 127.0.0.1 entry. Edit it and give it some other IP for
    example, 1.1.1.1. Submit + Apply.
[5] On eval, Restart CSAdmin service.
[6] On eval, go back to Network Configuration and search for the changed IP address and delete that entry, Delete + Apply.
[7] Take a backup from eval ACS, System Configuration > ACS Backup > Backup Now.
[8] Restore the database backup from eval ACS into ACS SE from option, System Configuration > ACS Restore, choose the database backup. Check Check option "User and Group Database" and "CiscoSecure ACS System Configuration", then press Restore Now.
[9] On ACS SE, go to Network Configuration, make sure that 127.0.0.1 entry is not there and for ACS SE's hostname we have the correct IP address. Go to Proxy Distribution Table > (Default). Move the server’s hostname entry that has correct IP for this ACS SE into "Forward To" column, if not already. Then press "Submit + Restart".
Reference defect, CSCso36620 - Toggle nic command changes AAA server ip address to "127.0.0.1" in GUI.

  • Migrate WSUS/MS Internal database from 2005 express to 2012 express

We are using WSUS 3 SP1 on a 2008r2 server and 2005 SQL Express to host the internal database. Is there anything I need to do to upgrade this to 2012 SQL Express? We have an application which is requiring 2012 Express as a minimum and would like everything
under one package with separate database instances.

    Hi
As Alberto’s post, it's not supported to run a Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) database on SQL Server 2012 in Server 2008 R2. Since your application requires SQL Server 2012 Express as a minimum, you can try the following method:
    1. WSUS in Server 2012 supports SQL Server 2012, if you want to upgrade WSUS database supports SQL Server 2012, you need to upgrade WSUS 3.0 SP1, operation system and so on. For more information, you can post the question about WSUS in the
Windows Server forums. It is appropriate and more experts will assist you. In addition, upgrade SQL Server 2005 to SQL Server 2012, as Shanky’s post, you need to make sure that your SQL Server 2005 has been applied Service Pack 4.
    2. However, if you don’t want to upgrade WSUS database from SQL Server 2005 to SQL Server 2012, I recommend you to install a new instance of SQL Server 2012 on Windows Server 2008 R2.
In addition, before installing SQL Server 2012 or upgrading to SQL Server 2012, your system should meets the following prerequisites:
      • The Windows Installer service must be running.
      • Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 and .NET Framework 4.0 are required.
      • Windows PowerShell 2.0 or later is required if you're upgrading the database engine.
For more information about the prerequisites for installing SQL Server 2012, please review the following link:

I checked the Db role of the service app pool account, it has SPDataAccess permission over the Database. i cant recreate another application without knowing the root cause. I hope i can get better option to troubleshoot the issue.

  • Potential Windows Update database error detected 0x80070490

This is the response I get when I run the Windows update troubleshooter from the Windows 8.1 Action Center.  If I click next it reports the errors have been fixed.  However if I run it again it reports exactly the same errors.
After searching the Internet I have found that several users have reported having this issue.  As result of the aforementioned search I have tried the following:
    1) Run the Fixit tool for Windows 8.1 located at:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058/en-us.
    2) Run the System Update Readiness commands: DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth and DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth located at:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821/en-us.
    3) Saved contents of C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 to a temp folder and then deleted contents of C:\Windows\System32\catroot2.
    4)Renamed C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution to C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution.old
    5) Restarted Windows 8.1.
    6) Verified that C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 and that C:Windows\SoftwareDistribution folders had been rebuilt.
    7) I then ran the Windows update troubleshooter from the Window 8.1 Action Center again and got the same response as listed above. The errors still exist and are not fixed.
    8) Finally, I downloaded Windows 8.1 Enterprise Evaluation and I did a completely new clean install of Windows 8.1 and without installing anything else (no updates, no software, no antivirus) the above errors appeared within minutes after connecting
to the internet.  I checked using the Windows update troubleshooter several times before connecting to the Internet and each time no problems were found, but shortly after I connected the above errors are shown to exists.
Any suggestions that will help fix this issue will be of great help.

Did anyone ever find an actual fix for this problem?  I have a very similar problem.  I have gone through the same steps for fixing my issues with getting a message of problems found every time I run the Windows Update troubleshooter.  It
continually finds what it says are Potential Windows Update Database error detected 0x800700D and says they are fixed, along with another message saying Windows Update components must be repaired and it says they are fixed as well.  However, each time
I run the troubleshooter it finds the same issues.  I have no problems running Windows Update under Windows 8.1 and them all installing without issue, yet I can't download or update ANY apps within the MS store and like the problem above, when it looks
for my apps it says it's having problems finding them and to try later.  If I try to download even a free app, I get an error message that something happened and your purchase can't be completed. Error code: 0x80096004.
I have dug through everything I can find on this error message and tried changing my sign in on my laptop to a local account, created a new MS account to access the store and continue to get the same error message.  I have tried it with my Kaspersky
Internet Security 2015 turned completely off.  I've also ran SFC scannow and there are no errors and have ran DISM which found a problem but says it was fixed.  After running it again, there were no errors.  I have no other problems with anything
else (that I know of on my machine).  It is an Asus Q400A and came with Windows 8.0.  I ran all the updates and then upgraded to 8.1 through the MS store without issue.  I have installed all updates since upgrading to 8.1 and have absolutely
no problem running ANY updates, but can't seem to access the store no matter what I try.
If anyone has found a solution to this I'd appreciate your input.  Hard to believe MS would put out a product that has such a basic problem that has affected so many users and can't seem to come up with some resolution that doesn't require registry
editing, running commands from elevated command prompts, and a CS degree to resolve--there are soooo many issues online regarding this kind of error and others related to running SFC and DISM...most ending up in their ultimate default answer....renew or reinstall
Windows and all the updates....which still doesn't resolve the problem for many!  I've always been a PC guy, but I'm starting to like the MacBook Pro I picked for work related reasons with great hesitation.  I've wasted more time chasing this issue
down than I all the time I've spent actually using the Mac without even a hitch!
Thx in advance for any feedback....please no MAC blasting....at this point, it would be not well received!!
