AD4J with JRockit

A customer wants to use AD4J for their production applications running on the following environment
Weblogic 9.2
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4.0 (64 bit)
JRockit 1.5_04 (64 bit)
AD4J 10.2.0.4 Version 4
From the readme.txt I understand that this version of JVM is not supported with AD4J (I tried connecting to an agent running on this app server. It connected to all the JVMs but displayed the message "JVM not supported" in the JVM's section of the console).
Is there a work around to use AD4J with this application? Are there plans to support 64bit Jrockit on linux for AD4J? Also, how does JRMC compare against AD4J in terms of features? Can we run JRMC all the time in production environment without any high overhead?
Appreciate your help
Sairam

The AD4J team is certifying their product with JRockit on one platform at a time, with the most common deployment platforms for WLS/JRockit first. I would expect 64-bit Linux soon since it is also rather common (but still trailing 32-bit).

  • Help with jrockit crashes (dump files) at MemSystem.getMoreTLAMemory

    Hello,
We've recently started experiencing a lot of instability in one of our new deployments, generating core dumps as listed below.
The server in question is running jboss 3.2.2 with jrockit 1.4.2_03, on Red Hat Enterprise Linux WS release 3 (Taroon Update 3), with SQL Server 2000.
The dump file is listed below (I've actually listed 2). Any help or suggestions for research would be greatly appreciated. This is in our production environment, so I'm anxious for input. Thank you!
JRockit context dump produced after 0 days, 15:04:58 on Tue May 17 08:22:34 2005
If you see this dump, please send it, along with as much
information as you can on your system setup and the program
you were running, to [email protected]. Please include the
file jrockit.29470.dump from the current directory in the bug
    report. Thank you.
A core file will be dumped into /usr/local/jboss-3.2.2/bin.
Please attach that file to your bug report.

We will try these in test...
Initially we were experiencing JVM hangs (where the JBoss process simply stopped responding) on one of our production servers with 142_05, but no core dumps were ever produced. So we moved the application to a different server that has been running some other deployments without problems (different versions of our codebase and use cases however) to rule out hardware/external configuration issues.
On this server, we did get core dumps.
So, we're not sure if they are dying for unrelated reasons (seems unlikely) or if the _05 just did not generate core dumps properly???
    take care!

  • How to start managed server on Weblogic 9.1 Admin console with jRockit

I configured a new 9.1 domain with jRockit as the JVM. Under Server Start, I used -server -Xgcprio:pausetime -Xpausetarget=400ms -Xms:256m -Xmx:384m -Xns:81m -Xgcpause in the Argument field. When I tried to start the server, I am getting the following error:

It looks like your command line is broken. You have:
    java <lots of -Dprop=value> java <JRockit flags> weblogic.Server
That second "java" shouldn't be there.

  • Log4j problem with JRockit

When I use JRockit 8.1 SP2 with Log4j 1.2.8, it appears that JRockit handles reflection differently than the Sun JVM, because the log4j messages come back wrong under JRockit and work fine with Hotspot.
I think if you do the following you will reproduce the issue:
Set your ConversionPattern layout in Log4j to include Method lookup (%M) - for example:
log4j.appender.stdout.layout.ConversionPattern=[%d{HH:mm:ss.SSS}] %5p %x %c.%M() line %L - %m%nGet some code to log a log4j message. Run it under the different JVMs and the log4j messages will give you different results.
For example, under Sun's JVM, the method name is properly returned in the log message:
    [15:39:21.549] DEBUG  COMMON.com.mycompany.common.security.ldap.LdapManager.findGroupsSelectedAttributes() line 696 - <exit
[15:39:21.948]  WARN  COMMON.com.mycompany.common.dao.DAOFactory.reset() line 244 - Resetting DAO cacheUnder JRockit, you get what appears to be the return type of the method. Sometimes it's instead of the method name, sometimes it's in addition to it:
    [16:12:45.014] DEBUG  COMMON.com.mycompany.common.security.ldap.LdapManager.List;() line 696 - <exit
    [16:12:45.034]  WARN  COMMON.com.mycompany.common.dao.DAOFactory.reset()V() line 244 - Resetting DAO cache

We have seen this problem with JRockit before and it seems to be a compatability issue with log4j.
    Quoting Jim Brown of BEA:
"The underlying problem appears to be that log4j is ignorant of the extended method argument and type data returned by JRockit."
At this point, we have not changed anything in JRockit to avoid this.
    Kind regards, Cecilia Borg

I found the solution . The reason for this is that JRockit's High Performance Thread
System uses asynchrounous I/O "under the hood". Weblogic's Native I/O is also asynchronous.
The two asynchronous I/O systems clash and the result is the error you see.
There are two ways around this problem. Either disable JRockit's High Performance
Thread System (or thinthreads) by using the -Xnativethreads command line flag, or
    disable Weblogic's Native I/O.
For Weblogic 6.0 and higher, edit the config.xml file. Find the line saying NativeIOEnabled="true"
    and change this to NativeIOEnabled="false".
For Weblogic 5.1 you edit the file weblogic.properties and change the line weblogic.system.nativeIO.enable=true
    to
    weblogic.system.nativeIO.enable=false

  • Charting library with JRockit

    Using Weblogic Platform 8.1.4.
When using JRockit JVM with JFreeChart sometimes the JRockit will crash. Apparently this is a bug with JRockit as when we switch to Sun JVM we don't have this problem.
So since switching to Sun JVM is not an option for us and I don't have resources to try every charting library out there if it works with JRockit, is there any graphing library that BEA recommends using with JRockit.
Or if anyone knows any workarounds.
    Thanks for help.

so... the device has been set up already and i no longer have the option to set it up. when i did the 1st set up of the device when i tried to do the set up option for the shared library i got an error saying that a fire wall was blockin port 3689. then i my itunes/vista told me itunes had an error and made me reinstall/repair itunes. i have ran the repair section of itunes. and i have also gone into my windows fire wall and enable the ports 368i9 and also added them in my router. is there a way to reset up itunes?

  • Unable to start weblogic with JRockit

i am using a 32 bit machine to start weblogic server on JRockit JVM. Doing this in order to have already installed Oracle SOA suite and when I start weblogic using JRockit it is Running out of memory. Tried the solutions given in the forum but not able to resolve this issue.
Also when using jdk getting permgen error. Tried with resetting the maxPermSize value etc in the startweblogic server but not able to do so.
For JRockit OOM has any one faced a similar issue?
Can any one help me with same ?

Thanks Carlos. The value was getting overridden in startweblogic.cmd for Sun jdk but was not sufficient for my problem as I was using Jrockit and with JRockit there is no Permsize issue inturn there was OOM.
    I followed these steps:
    1. changed maxpermsize in startweblogic.
    2. Tried increasing system swap space.
    3. Used a profiler which controls JVM running, tried reduce memory leaks, but none worked.
I switched to JRockit for weblogic
    1. tried increasing memory etc. Finally I switched to 64 bit machine as suggested in one of the forums for JRockit oom.
Now both jdk and JRockit weblogic with all SOA components working successfully.
    Thanks,
    Dipti Karnataki

  • Apparent slow performance with JRockit.

    Hi all.
I've just replaced our application's Sun JVM with JRockit and the results are slightly surprising. The application seems to run at around 50% of the speed as it did on the Sun JVM (i.e. the throughput was around 50%). The JVM options are the same (we're not using anything particularly unusual, just -server and -Xmx256m). I just did a drop-in replacement. I've also checked our logs for errors, and they seem to be clean.
Now, I realise that I'm being extremely vague here, and I don't have any hard performance stats, but I would have expected the performance to be at least similar to the Sun JVM. However I was wondering if there's anything obvious I might have missed that could impact the performance. I profiled the application and it looked pretty similar to the Sun JVM (there wasn't an extra performance hit in any particular place). I also changed the garbage collection to Parallel (-Xgc:parallel) but this didn't seem to have any impact.
Unfortunately I can't make any part of the app public, and I don't have a simple test to reproduce this behaviour, but any help would be appreciated. I can provide some more details of what the app does if it helps.
    Thanks.
    Neil.

Try the JRockit Runtime Analyzer to see if there are any obvious bottlenecks (http://e-docs.bea.com/jrockit/tools/usingjra/index.html).
You can send the profile to us for comments at [email protected] (but we can't guarantee that we will have time to look at it).

how to disable SSLv3 on SSL enabled NodeManager (wls12.1.1 with jRockit)

    Hi,
Add the following Java option in the StartNodemanger.sh file
Steps to disable SSLv3 protocol on Weblogic:
    1.  The weblogic.security.SSL.protocolVersion command-line argument lets you specify which protocol is used for SSL connections.
    2.  After enabling/configuring the SSL for weblogic server, append the following option to the JAVA_OPTIONS variable
            -Dweblogic.security.SSL.protocolVersion=TLS1
NOTE: If you don’t specify the above property, by default it takes SSLv3.

  • -Xmx1024M is working with Jrockit but not with Sun JDK.

    Hi,
We have a window server box with 8GB RAM. in which there are few other processes running apart from that we have more than 1GB space available.
We have weblogic 10.3 present in this system. when we try to Run a managed server with JRockit JVM with -Xmx as 1024M -- it is allocating the space properly.
but when we try the same with Sun JDK , it is failing to allocate memory.
Please let me know if any one have come across this situaton.

Maybe you have a large number of DLLs loaded and have insufficient amounts of contiguous free memory for the Sun JVM? Unlike Sun, JRockit does not require a contiguous heap.

  • Duplicate soap envelope with JRockit and not Sun JDK

I have been installed Weblogic 10.3.6 with Sun JDK 1.6 on Windows 7 64 bit. This has worked great for a client sending in a soap request which is processed in my war as a 1.2 message. Debugging this shows the response is valid in my code, and works on Sun 1.6 fine.
When I switched to JRockit [jrockit-jdk1.6.0_33-R28.2.4-4.1.0-windows-x64] I started to receive a duplicate soap envelope and soap body wrapped around the valid soap envelope which worked before.
With the only change being switching to JRockit, this must be the cause of the addition of the duplicate the soap body and envelope. I searched this forum and Google and have not found a reason or solution.
    Any ideas on a solution?

Seems to be the case that using MTOM stops this problem with JRockit. Strange but apparently true (so far).

  • Can't see member variables when debugging with jrockit

    Hi all,
I'm using WLS 8.1.4 with jrockit and trying to do remote debugging while connecting from IntelliJ Idea 4.5.4. Everything works fine except that I can't see a class's member (or instance) variables in the debugger. I can see static and local variables, step through the code, etc. If I switch to Sun's jvm that came with WLS (1.4.2 05) I can see member variables. Is there a setting to change this or is it a known issue? I'm using -Xdebug -Xrunjdwp:transport=dt_socket,server=y,address=5005,suspend=n as my startup args.
    thanks

I just check with IntelliJ support on this issue. They say that its a known issue with IntelliJ 4.5. According the them a fix has been implemented and debugging of member variables is possible in IDEA 5.x versions.

  • Compiling with JRockit using ant

I am considering switching to JRockit.
Our java code is compiled using ant, with the 'javac' task.
The javac task has an option to invoke different compilers:
    - classic (the standard compiler of JDK 1.1/1.2) – javac1.1 and javac1.2 can be used as aliases.
    - modern (the standard compiler of JDK 1.3/1.4/1.5/1.6) – javac1.3 and javac1.4 and javac1.5 and javac1.6 can be used as aliases.
    - jikes (the Jikes compiler).
    etc
The Jrockit compiler is not on this list.
I have found a suggestion (http://www2.sys-con.com/ITSG/virtualcd/Java/archives/0811/pepperdine/index.html) to use an exec call as a workaround,
    but are there any alternatives? I could perhaps persuade ant to use JRockit by deinstalling any other JDK's and pointing JAVA_HOME to JRockit;
what I want however is to keep the option to use different compilers.
    Has anyone got any suggestions?

The javac compiler bundled with JRockit is the exact same one that you get with the Sun JDK. Oracle licenses the JDK (class libraries, tools, etc) from Sun. So I would just set JAVA_HOME to point at JRockit as you suggest.

  • Oracle 9.2.0.6 client JDBC OCI driver compatibility issue with JRockit 1.4.

I have weblogic server 8.1 sp4 running on Linux E3.0 using JRockit 1.4.2_5.
I cannot seem to get the Oracle driver ojdbc14.jar to work. Yes I have added $ORACLE_HOME/bin to my classpath prior to any weblogic classes, I added $ORACLE_HOME/lib and $ORACLE_HOME/jdbc/lib to my LD_LIBRARY_PATH with no luck.
I get the error "no ojdbc10 in java.library.path".
I keep reading in the JDBC driver notes that the driver is compatible with different version of JDK 1.x but not JRockit. Perhaps Oracle 10 has this fixed.
Anyone experiences the same problem ? I am stuck ..

Oracle database 10.2 drivers ojdbc14.jar may also be used with JDK 5.0.
