Adaptec AVA-2906 is this the PCI card needed to connect internal HD's?

Hi, I have an Adaptec AVA-2906, is this the PCI card needed to connect internal HD's? It has a socket on the board that looks like the type of plug used to connect hard drives. On the backplate it has a socket with 25 pin connecter with screw holes like on monitor plugs.
If this is the right device can I fit a HD bigger than 120gb?
Thanks
Robert

(A) do I have to fit a SATA card to put a third hard
drive inside the G4 or is there a ribbon connector
that has 3 plugs on it, like the one in that came
with the machine with two plugs that plugs into the
edge of the motherboard?
Without an ATA or SATA card you can install upto two hard drives. These drives are connected to the ATA controller built into your computer's logic board. It can only support two drives, a master and a slave. You can't buy a ribbon cable with three plugs and attach three drives.
(B) Looking at pics of the SATA plug connectors they
appear to be a lot smaller than the ribbon cable ones
in my Mac, do the ATA hard drives come with this
small type of connector?
SATA drives use a different data connector and a different power connector, although some SATA drives also come with a legacy molex power connector. The data connectors aren't interchangeable, ATA drives use a wide ribbon cable only, SATA drives use the much narrower cable only.
(C) Is there any other way of putting another HD
inside if I dont exceed 120gb?
In theory you could add a third hard drive to the zip bay, beneath the optical drive. However, it's not recommended by Apple due to possible heat issues. The ATA bus used for the optical drive and zip drive is also slower and may affect performance.
(D) Can 5,400 rev be mixed with 7200?
Yes, the spindle speeds and cache sizes are purely internal to the drive. The computer and OS probably don't even 'know' or 'care' about them.

  • I have found a person who has a driver software to connect Labview with PCI card. But he says that i need to download a freeware software to configure the PCI card. But you have mentioned that freeware is for GPIB boards. Is it correct ??

I have found a person who has a driver software to connect Labview with a general PCI card. But he says that i need to download a freeware software from NI website to configure the PCI card. But you have mentioned that freeware is for GPIB boards. Is it correct ?? Is there any other way out ??

I would ask the person who told you about the freeware software to help you find exactly where it is. I am not aware of any freeware software for configuring motion PCI cards but maybe the person you know might be able to help you locate it.

Hello, community, Please could someone confirm the Graphics card needed to support a Eizo ColorEdge CG275W monitor, resolution 2560x1440. I currently have a Mac Pro with a NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT VRAM (Total):          256 MB, which I'm guessing by it's age will not handle the new monitor. Any advice greatly appreciated.

No eSATA to USB. Just a SATA/IDE to USB adapter. Google SATA/IDE to USB adapter and you will get tons of links to buy them. Most likely your local computer electronics store has them, although they might be more expensive buying locally than online.
I have several. You can get either USB 2, which what I recommend, or USB 3. USB is backward compatible so a USB 3 adapter will work on a USB 2 port and a USB 2 adapter will work on a USB 3 port. Backward compatible in both directions.
I suggest a USB 2 type because there have been some problems with certain USB 3 devices, the USB 3 interface used isn't all that good in those certain devices. USB 3 is still fairly new where as USB 2 has been around for over 10 years.

  • K9N Platinum SLI - Powering up the PCIe cards

    Hey everyone,
I've got a K9N Platinum SLI board. This board has a power supply input point called PWR2, which according to the documentation is used to provide power to stable the operation of graphics cards. My graphic card is BFG nVidia 9750 GT. This card has the PCI-Express external power plug in the back, and my power supply has a dedicated (red) connector for this purpose, which I have attached properly.
The PWR2 is currently connected also, into one of the black 12V connectors. Otherwise, everything is running fine and smooth, but I am sometimes (once a day or so) experiencing random shutdowns during intense gaming (playing LotRO). Stress testing does not cause a shutdown: I've ran 3D Mark 2007 straight for 8-9 hours, while having a CPU Burner application toast the CPU at the same time. But no problems whatsoever. No other games exhibit this problem either.
Since I am providing dedicated power through the extra connector at the back of the card, should I leave the PWR2 connector unplugged ? Is there a chance that using these two connectors at the same time causes the 12V rail to overload, and the PSU shuts down to protect itself ? When this shut down occurs, the power LED is left blinking and I need to plug out the wall socket and wait for several minutes before the blinking stops and it starts up again.
My computer has an Enermax Liberty 620W power supply, and AMD Athlon X2 4600+ CPU. So there should be enough juice, at least. I've tried the tips and tricks suggested here. Using USB-connected Keyboard and Mouse does not correct the issue. I've also verified that this is not an overheating issue. My CPU is cooled by a Scythe Ninja tower heatsink and two 12 cm fans. It is possible that the northbride is heating up (it burns the finger on touch when under load), but from the Web, I've understood that the stock passive heatsink should be enough, and that the NB chip can take rather extreme temperatures.
    * UPDATE *
Plugged the PWR2 connector out from the MB, and update the BIOS to 1.10. It's working as usual, but haven't ran any games yet. Heavy gaming usually reproduces the issue, so I'll write more when I know more.

    Updated information on the case.
I've been running 2 days now with the PWR2 unplugged. I have had zero problems with shutdowns since. The only problem I now have is that the USB keyboard and mouse refuse to work in Windows XP after an initial bootup from powered down state. I have to unplug and replug them at the login screen in order to get them work again.
So, I decided to do a final sanity check, and replugged the PWR2, then went gaming. After 2 hours of playing, my computer shutted down for the first time. Plugging in the cable did not solve the USB problem either.
As of this day, I'm leaving it unplugged. It seems like an irrelevant connector, which just causes problems.
    ** Update **
After following Bosskiller's instructions on another thread about using the "Clear CMOS" button and then reconfiguring BIOS from scratch, the cold boot USB issues were solved. The USB devices now work straight after a cold boot, with no need to replug them.
I recommend that the PWR2 -connector info is added to the list of known problems in the sticky thread. If you have a GPU card which takes its power from a dedicated rail (and your PSU has a dedicated connector for this purpose), then leaving the PWR2 -connector unplugged might resolve your shutdown issues, like it solved mine.
After all, according to the manual, this connector is used to give more voltage to the PCI and PCIe busses, and some PCI/PCIe cards might not like this idea at all. There is a reason why these cards have an additional power plug on them...

  • Upgrading the G3 /DT with USB PCI Card for Printer Connection

I would like to connect a Brother MFC-9160 laser printer to one of my Beige G3 /DT with Macintosh OS 9.2.2 installed.
There are two ways to do that: USB or Parallel. I don't know if Parallel adapters for Macintosh are available. This is the reason why I am favouring the solution of PCI USB upgrade.
The problem is that the few USB adapters I saw on sale on various French Mac warehouses were all USB 2.0 compliant, and required a Power Macintosh G3 /BW.
I suppose that a USB 2.0 compliant card is also de facto USB 1.1 compliant, but I am not sure. Besides the hardware issue, there is of course the problem of support on a Beige G3 for USB 1.1.
Could you please elaborate on the hardware which would run on a Beige G3? I am open to any friendly advice
    Frederic W. Erk

By the way I wonder if it would be possible to
connect to the laser printer through electricity
network. No cables, here because the building in 400
years old and too large. Wireless, he he... Not even
    worth speaking about it....
I'm not sure about what kind of electrical wiring you have available over there, or if these kind of products are compatible, but there are some options in the US for using the electrical outlets in a house to create a LAN network. With this kind of network you could use keep the printer on the B&W and turn on USB printer sharing. Printing from OS 9 on the G3 might not work with all printers. That kind of networking equipment is more costly than just adding a USB PCI card to the G3 to use the printer directly, but you might also be able to share a single high-speed internet connection that way. It all depends on what your needs are.
Is this what you were asking about?

  • There are randomly coloured pixels appearing on my MacBook Pro LED when I attempt to open or preview a media file.  Is this the graphics card?

I recently had to switch out the hard drive on my Early 2011 13" MacBook Pro.  When I got the computer back from the Apple Store I began loading my old content onto the machine.  When previewing and opening files, they would appear with randomly coloured splotches of pixels on them.    This continues to happen when browsing folders on my machine.
The files do not show up with splotches on other computers, and are not in the same places each time I open the file, which leads me to believe they are problems with my machine and not the files themselves.
I hypothesise this is the graphics card, but I don't know enough about the hardware to know for sure.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    See examples below.

To follow-up.  The problem has gotten worse, as it not only displays glitches during file previews, but imprints glitches on exported files.  No good.
There are many issues popping up now related to 15" and 17" MacBook Pros from 2011, and I wonder if this is a related issue.   In either case, I would love a response from someone at Apple about this issue.

Each time I have to turn my Maxx off, it locks the SIM card and needs the PUK number to unlock it.  I'm so sick of this.  Can anyone please help me?  TYIA!

    Hello Matthew,
When I got my phone, I wanted to lock it so it required the 4 digit PIN code to get into it. I did that, using the "Set up SIM card lock" function, and, I just checked "SIM card lock settings" and it has a check mark beside "Require PIN to use phone".  It has never been set up for encryption.  I've only had it a few weeks.  I never tried to set up encryption, nor did I do anything that made the PUK number be required after my phone has been turned off.  It just started after I'd had it a couple of weeks.  I'm going to be traveling by plane quite often, and will have to turn off my phone.  I'm not sure what to do at that point.  Any help you can give me will be most appreciate!

  • Nokia, the memory card needs moving

why put the memory card under the battery? if i want to take it out to stick some data on using the readers that come as standard on many pc's now, i can't. i will have to reprogram the time and date and deal with the phones covers. The cards of very limited use, and might aswell not be removeable.

The 6230i is an old phone and was one of the first series 40 phones to feature a memory card.
Most newer nokia's memory cards can be changed without removing the battery. Some lower end phones (7373) still have the slot under the battery.

  • U4 Won't install w/ Adaptec AUA-4000B / NEC D720101 USB PCI Card

Machine is an ASUS P2B-F, Pentium III / Coppermine / 800MHz, 1GB ECC memory, has been a reliable machine for many years, including this this card, under Win2K and Linux (Knoppix and Suse).
When I boot the U4 DVD, select the default ("Solaris Interactive"), then the screen clears, prints series of dots, then the kernel message (3 or 4 lines), then the problem...
Prints a bunch of debug information that scrolls too fast to read, stops for about one second, then clears the screen and reboots. I have taken a picture of the last screenful that is stable for 1 second (at the most) and can mail it (I don't see a way to attach it).
    Whole screenful, says stuff like:
ebx: 40 edx: d2b15de0 ecx: d9042180 eax: 0 (Top line on screen)
    trp: ...
    efl: ...
    d2b15874 unix: die:die+a7 ...
    Syncing file systems... done
Without the board in, it installs great. Plug then card in, it works great (In a certain disk configuration, as noted in another message).
One hint may be that the P2B-F has all PCI slots sharing one interrupt. So perhaps the installed system can handle this, but the installer kernel can't? I have tried different slots and different orders, even though it should not matter since they all share one interrupt. It doesn't matter. Same result.
Installs and works fine with an IOGEAR USB card in the same slot. The USB chip is painted over so you can't read what it is.
I assume that this should be considered a bug to fix, but I would also be interested in any insights or ideas.

Have you tried windows update with the card inserted , and if it suggest download of drives .
There is comprehensive self support on lots of usb issues at usbman.com

  • Is this the product I need to create PDF from a form online?

    Hello,
I need to develop an application where the user fills out an online form and a pdf is automatically created and emailed to them, a copy is also archived. Am I looking in the corect place by exploring LiveCycle PDF Generator or am I looking for something else? I am currently using php and MySQL but from the looks of it may be necesary to use XML. This is very new to me so any direction would be much appreciated.
    Thanks
    Nils Satterstrom

I am in the same boat as Nils. Has anyone made any discoveries on this? I have a call in to a "specialist" at Adobe, but it will be 3-5 days before someone gets back to me. I want to collect the data using PHP/MySQL and then populate a PDF template of some sort to create a print-ready PDF that I can send to my printer.
An example of how we plan on using this is with business cards. We're going to create a business card template PDF with form fields for Name, Title, Phone, Email, etc. and then have the user enter in their information and then create a print-ready PDF we could send to the printer to get printed. I am unclear on which Adobe product would work for this. The pre-sales team at Adobe said we might want to look into InDesign server and LiveCycle. I guess the starting price tag for either of those is $10,000.
Any insight would be great. Thanks!
