Adapter / converter

Hi there,
I'm new to Mac, I bought a macbook 2months ago , here in the US, and I'm about to go back to France. Does anyone know if I need a converter for voltage ( because I've been told that my macbook would convert automatically from 110 V to 220V, is that true)
Is it better to buy an apple adapter , or is it more expensive just because of the design? Does anyone know if the Travel kit has an adapter for both Argentina and France.
Hope someone can help me,
regards, emma

I have a US macbook and live in Slovakia. For a short trip, a cheaper adaptor should be fine, but if you are going to France for more than a visit, I recommend springing for the Apple adaptor because adaptors that attach to your American plug don't stay firmly in place and sometimes get stuck in wall sockets. My European friends, seeing me grapple with my old adaptor, and seeing how loose the adaptor was on the end of my macbook plug, told me that this was exposing me to shocks - and that shocks from European voltage are stronger than from American. I felt much safer after I bought the snug-fitting Apple adaptor.

  • 50mm Macro Life Size Adapter/Converter

I own the 50mm f:2.5 macro lens.  This lens will focus to 1/2 life size but to get to life size Canon states that I need to buy their unique adapter which costs an arm and a leg.  What is the advantage of using the Canon adapter/converter instead of using s simple extension tube?
    Thanks.

    Richard D,
It is true that you can change the focusing distance of the EF 50mm f/2.5 Compact Macro lens by simply adding an extension tube to it.  To achieve anywhere close to life size magnification (1x), you would need the EF 25 II extension tube.
The disadvantage is that you do not quite hit the target of life size magnification with an extension tube and you are adding an extra 25mm to the focal length, which changes the working distance.  The Life-Size Converter allows you to achieve 1x life size magnification while keeping the working distance and focal length shorter, which is great for copy stand work or photographing large, flat artwork.

  • What type of adapter/ converter would I purchase from Apple if traveling to France? Does Apple even offer one?

What type of adapter/ converter would I purchase from Apple if traveling to France? Does Apple even offer one?

The power supplies used by Apple can be used with any line voltage between 100 and 240 volts so you done need any changes there.
What you will need is pin adapters because the European socket require different shaped pins. You can get the pins adapters at any hardware store quite inexpensively.

  • Traveling to Portugal --  Adapter/Converter Recommendations??

I'm traveling to Portugal and I need to be able to charge my MacBook while I'm there. I went ahead and did some pretty superficial research that told me to buy both an adapter and a converter so that I don't fry my laptop. However, the converters I've found (which converts 220/240V AC to 110/120V AC) say they should only be used with heat appliances, not computers, and not for extended periods of time. Can anyone recommend an adapter, converter, or both that will allow me to charge my comp overseas without killing it based on personal experience (even if it's from RadioShack or Best Buy, etc.)?

The power adapter that is provided with your Apple computer will handle a range of AC input voltage (100-240) and line frequencies (50-60Hz). The AC power in Portugal falls into this range, and you do not need to buy a power converter. You might have to buy an AC prong adapter, and it's cheapest to buy one after you arrive at your destination.

  • What adapter/converter do I use for my USA mac book pro in NEW ZEALAND?

I'm studying abroad in New Zealand for 2 months and was wondering what type of adapter/converter do I use? I'm actually already here in New Zealand but buy a converter/adapter before I left. What should I look for on the box? I have a mac book pro 13 in that I bought in 2011.Thanks!

The MacBook Pro power adapter is multi-voltage capable, so you will need just an AC outlet adapter for the New Zealand power system.

  • What adapter/converter do I need to put GoPro videos onto iPad

What adapter/converter do I need to put GoPro videos from my iMac to my iPad?

What file type are the videos? If you have converted them to GoPro video format, iMovie should be able to convert the video to a format that con be used by the iPad.
H.264 videos output by the camera may be able to be used by the iPad by directly importing them from the camera to the iPad with Apple's Camera Connection Kit.

I just purchased a new mac mini and would like to use my old dell monitor. I tried a HD to VGA adapter converter,it plugs in, but nothing shows on the monitor. Any suggestions?

What do you mean by "HD to VGA adapter converter"?
Do you mean have an HDMI to VGA adapter connected the the Mini's HDMI port?
Or maybe you plugged n the the included HDMI to DVI adapter and then connected a DVI to DVI adapter?
In either case that will not work since VGA is analog and the Mini's HDMI port is digital only.
You need to purchase a mini displayport to VGA adapter. It plugs into the Mini's Thunderbolt port.

Make sure you get a name--brand one. I purchased some el cheapo, no-name ones and they did not work

Might be hard to find, but long ago there were a couple of Firewire<->SCSI adapters, if you have USB2 those might be available also...

I think Belkin made one also.
Might be far cheaper to buy an old Mac or even PC with SCSI.

  • Dear Community, how can I connect SCSI tape recorder via USB to iMac ? Is there any adapter/converter on the market now ? Cheers, Marek

    Dear Community,
how can I connect SCSI tape recorder via USB to iMac ?
Is there any adapter/converter on the market now ?
    Cheers, Marek

    Thanks Jan.
Actually the reason to use Quantum SCSI tape recorder is to back-up big amount of data (propriety movies footage) both on PC (what is quite easy, using SCSII host adapter with VHDCI 68 connector) and iMac what seems to be not easy. All my search by Google leads to that conclussion, they finished production of SCSI-to-USB or FireWire because somebody stopped to produce chips to covert protocols. So even buying noe second-hand adapter, no guaranty it's still working with Lion (nobody is developing drivers anymore). Strange is, nobody or just a few are using SCSII (Ultra 320) devices (while the transfer is not bad, 320 MBps what is 2560 Mbps, so the only limitation is tape recording (some 80 MBps) not an interface. Using compression mode I can (and I do) record 1,6 TB of footage data. However quite slow, is safe and cheap, comparing with any HD storage solution. USB 2 is much more limited.
I'm using Time Capsule for buck-up. But even 3 TB one day will be full of data, then old back-ups will be eaten by new once, what is not good idea for archives. I'm using another 2TB NAS HD (2x2TB RAID 1), but this is also going to be full soon.
Of course, you are right, the option is another machine (OSX,Win,Linux or Solaris) equipped with SCSII controller. But this requires another machine, just for back-up time to time, and in practice iMac folders must be shared with that small auxiliary machine because amount of data practically excluding even temporary data collection on auxiliary machine. And it must be transfer by wire, not WIFI, my only network. Tape recording is in my case really good, professional solution, isn't it?
Anyway, if somebody has similar requirements as me, and found the solution for SCSI, please let me know. So far, follow Jan's idea, I'm thinking about some embeded mini PC, fanless, equipped with slot for SCSI, with SOME smart system on-board, to deal with iMac for type recording. The option is previous Apple model, but to be honest, I became Mac/OSX user 4 years ago. I fell in love with Mac, but my knowledge about previous models is based on Google....
My desk becomes full of boxes. Do you know how big Quantum TC-L42BX is ? Is very big. And now another box.....another keyboard....another screen... And one small adapter could solve the problem. Eh....
    Best regards,
    Marek

  • I'm traveling to London for the summer, does anyone know a good power adapter/converter for my MacBook Pro?

I'm traveling to London for the summer, does anyone know a good power adapter/converter for my MacBook Pro? I know there's the Travel Adapter Kit but it's only for iPhones, iPods, iPad, etc.

    Apple World Travel Adapter Kit
The World Travel Adapter Kit includes the Apple USB Power Adapter, USB Cable and six interchangeable AC adapter plugs for use with iPod, iPhone, and iPad. The adapter plugs can also be used with Apple MagSafe Power Adapters, Portable Power Adapters, and AirPort Express, so you can plug your power adapter into most electrical outlets around the world.

  • 5s audio video to RCA equipped TV adapter/converter

I have a 4S and want to upgrade to the 5s.  My 4S allows my to transmit audio and video (e.g., Netflix) to my old RCA plug-equipped TV via a Skiva av adapter.  Is there an adapter/converter that will allow 5s to do the same?  That would be HDMI converted to an RCA TV-type adapter/converter that would accept the Lightning plug.  OK off market.  Thanks.

I found out the reason the sound was cutting out was I had the TV set to auto on the audio output.  It needs tobe set to pcm.

  • SOAP Sender Adapter converting Ukranian Characters to Unrecognizable Characters

    Hello All,
The scenario i am talking about here is SOAP - XI - R/3. And IDoc is posted to R/3 system via XI and hence we are using SOAP Adapter as Sender Adapter and IDoc Adapter as receiver Adapter. The third party which is sending the data to XI is a TMS system and they are connecting to XI via web-service URL.
The Problem i am facing is, the characters sent in one of the field by TMS is getting converted to some other value when it is reaching XI. Please refer to the attached screenshot to have a look at the both the text, 1. Data sent from TMS and 2. Data Received in XI.
Data sent from MS - SourceData.png
    Data Received in XI -DataSeenInXI.png
I have performed the below steps in order to fix this issue, but still no luck
    1. Changed the web-service URL to the below mentioned thing, added the parameter xmlenc=iso-8859-1 to the URL
    http://host:port/XISOAPAdapter/MessageServlet?channel=Party:Service:Channel&xmlenc=iso-8859-1
The above mentioned URL is being used by TMS team to post the message to XI.
    2. Added the below mentioned parameters in channel -
    Processing Sequence
    Module Name - sap.com/com.sap.aii.af.soapadapter/XISOAPAdapterBean
Module Type - Local Enterprise Bean
    Module Key - SOAP
    Module Configuration
    Module Key - SOAP
    Parameter Name - XMBWS.XMLEncoding
    Parameter value - iso-8859-1/UTF-8/UTF-16/US-ASCII/ANSI
Tried out all the encoding styles in parameter value but still the issue exist.
Kindly help me with this, as high priority development is on hold due to this issue.
    Thanks in Advance
    Regards,
    Nitin

    Hi Nitin,
I did some investigation by using these characters Г г Д д in my SOAP UI test. I added
    <?xml version='1.0' encoding='ISO-8859-5'?>
on top of the SOAP Envelope, as expected, in moni the encoding is changed to UTF-8 and the characters are unrecognizable in both display and view source. Also tried Windows-1252, did not work. KOI8-U is not supported in my XI system so was not able to test it. UTF-8 is working however.
Tried by checking "Do Not Use SOAP Envelope" in sender CC, added &nosoap=true at the of the URL and added the XML encoding at the top of
    the SOAP Envelope.
    1. ISO-8859-5
display is unrecognizable, view source is okay
    2. Windows-1252
also unrecognizable, view source is okay
    3. UTF-8
    Display is okay
    View source is also okay
    Some observations:
    - Ask the third-party to encode it in UTF-8 before sending it to you
    - If above is not possible, you have to run it in noSOAP mode to get the actual encoding that the third-party is sending
    - In some cases, the XI parser shows unrecognizable characters, it is okay as long as you have the correct encoding (can be verified using view source option in moni)
    Hope this helps,
    Mark

  • Need USB / SATA adapter converter for SSD thnsn2128gsps

    Hi,
I have an ssd from a broken macbook air thnsn2128gsps,
Is there a converter available to either normal SATA interface or USB 2/3?
I understand these ssd's use 3.3v and the normal SATA is 5V so a voltage change is needed.
I just want to connect it to a PC (Got the software to read macdisks) to get the data off the drive.
    Thanks in advance.

Don't get me started on Macs and non standard interfaces.
