Adapter for vga port

I have an HP ProBook (don't know where to find the model number).  It has a 9 pin male VGA port.  My VGA cables are 15 pin male.  What adapter will allow me to connect the cable to the port, just like I was connecting to a 15 pin female port?  I tried a generic adapter that allowed me to make the connection, but nothing came through the cable to the TV I connected the other end of the VGA cable to, so just any adapter that allows the connection doesn't necessarily work.  It apparently has to the right one for this PC.I said the operating system is Windows 7 (64 bit), but it might be 32 bit.  I really don't know how to tell which it is.  Does that make a difference for what adapter will work for the VGA port?

Without the model number it is pretty hard for us to help much. A 9 pin VGA port is analog and a 15 pin is DVI or digital and it is hard to adapt analog to digital. I have not run across a vga male to dvi adapter. You see a lot of dvi male to vga male adapters. digital to analog is not a problem. There is no specific adapter part for your laptop I can tell you.

  • Preferred adapter for VGA? Mini DisplayPort to VGA or Mini-DVI to VGA?

Which is the preferred adapter for connecting a VGA-only LCD display to the new Mac mini?
The official Mac mini accessories page <http://www.apple.com/macmini/accessories.html> prominently features the Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter.
However, the Tech Specs knowledge base article <http://support.apple.com/kb/SP505> suggests the Mini-DVI to VGA Adapter.
I'm sure Mac OS X will work fine with either. But is one more likely to work better with Windows XP using Boot Camp?

I've come up with my own answer to my earlier question...
It's the Mini-DVI to VGA adapter.
I ended up trying both adapters, and got the results I described here: [http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9255959].
Besides the simple fact that the Mini-DVI to VGA adapter is the only adapter that fully worked for me, it's also cheaper.
Also, from a mechanical point of view, the nuts to secure a VGA cable to the DisplayPort version of the adapter are recessed into the end of the connector housing. This prevented my VGA cable from being able to be properly secured to the adapter--although this might be a defect with my cable!

  • Adapter for parallel-port???

Hello! I have purchased an Apple Studio Display to use with my PowerBook G4 and my old Blue/White G3. Unfortunately I can't seem to use it with my Blue/White G3 which I have my wonderful and expensive Agfa Arcus II scanner attached to, and have already ditched my old dinosaur monitor. The scanner has a 25 pin parallel-port that I would like to be able to use on my PowerBook G4. Any ideas would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks!

You need a USB-to-parallel cable, like one of these:

I have an old iMac Power Mac G5 8.2.  I need a VGA adapter for display port so we can use it in our TV studio in my elementary school.  What kind do I need to get?
    Mini-DVI and mini-display don't fit.

  • VGA to Video adapter for a late 2004 iBOOK

I found a free TV and thought maybe i could use it as a larger screen format. so i went searching for cable adapters.
I did do a search here in the search query box on word search vga to video and results show related to clam shell versions.
while looking around the Apple web site for a VGA to Video adapter for a iBOOK G4 that shows a CPU speed of 1.2 GHz and a designation of PowerBook6, 5 yes that is how it is written in the System Profiler 'PowerBook6, 5'.
Using a tape measure the screen itself with out the plastic frame shows a width of 9.5 inches , including the plastic frame shows: 11 and one quarter, that could round off to 12 inch even though it is not at or beyond the point 5 mark.
The original paper work is some where ?.
I found a VGA adapter that could possibly work at
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/M9109G/A?mco=MTY3ODQ5OTY#overview
yet the wording states: The video adapter cable plugs into the video output port (mini-VGA) built into the back of the computers listed in the compatibility section below.
    Compatible with:
iBook without an external reset button, eMac, iMac G5, or 17-inch iMac (1GHz) with mini-VGA port.
does not say much for the laptop.
There is shown a VGA adapter for the iBook here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2721?viewlocale=en_US
yet finding it at the store ???
if i copy the part number in a search query at the store the results show a Lexmark copy machine.
I found many DVI adapters at:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/M9319G/A?mco=MTY3ODQ5OTY#overview
    And then here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TA27124?viewlocale=en_US
    as copied and pasted here:
The Apple Mini-DVI to S-Video/Composite Adapter does not work with PowerBook G4 (12-inch) computers,
the one thing i have notice is that no compatibility charts actually show support for the 1.2 GHz iBOOK G4.
I also see that there are Mini DVI to VGA adapters, Mini ?, does mention pin numbers ??.
I was wondering if i could crossover the DVI to VGA thru the adapters using VGA and DVI cables, yet pin numbers and compatibility questions still remain.
    Suggestions ?
    Thank you.

The adapter in the above link is the one you need.

  • Using a 27" iMac as display for PC with VGA port

There is a lot of talk aout there about using a 27" iMac as a display with the mini displayport to displayport cable. It is so exciting! I am trying to connect a PC laptop with a VGA port to a 27" Dell Latitude D620. I'm seeing mixed reviews out there. Has anyone tried this or know of a good convertor/adapter/cable from VGA to displayport?
I apologize if I missed this discussion already.

Apple creates products that work with one another. If they happen to also work with another manufacturer's products, then it is icing on the cake, but not a priority.
You will not be able to accomplish your goal with any series of passive adapters. You need an active VGA to DisplayPort converter to convert the VGA analog video signal to a digital DisplayPort video signal. No one makes one that I can find in web searches.
If you can add a new video card to the PC, it may be much less expensive to get a video card with DisplayPort output for the PC. Then you just need a DP to m-DP cable. But if not a DisplayPort card, then you can convert HDMI/DVI to DisplayPort. Those converters are US$150.

  • An adapter for connecting a 2.5 GHz dual-core Mac Mini to a VGA CRT monitor?

This question concerns the 2.5 GHz dual-core Mac Mini from Mid 2011 (Intel Core i5-2520M) (Macmini5,2).  Is there an adapter for connecting it to a VGA CRT monitor?

  • DVI - adapter - VGA to LCD w/only VGA port open

    Hello All,
Have a question, I guess it would be color management related.  I have 2 monitors and 2 computer systems that I use.  The older system I have decided to make my photoshop system and my newer one is a gaming system.  Ok on the monitors one has a DVI port, VGA, and RGB my second monitor has a DVI, VGA, HDMI all outputs on my videocards have DVI out.  So do you guys see it as being detrimental if I connect my photoshop system by using a dvi-> adapter -> VGA inputs on my LCDs?  Would color management and general quality suffer going with the VGA ports?  I dont want to go the KVM route since it costs a lot to get a good one and dont want to have to worry about input lag when gaming.  Any info is appreacated.
    Thanks,
    Eddie

Ok, so you have the gaming computer feeding dual monitors via dvi interfaces and you want to feed one of those monitors with another type interface as well from your Photoshop computer ?
The best and most stable image on your monitors will be achieved with a dvi connection and your monitor running at its native resolution.  If you are lucky enough to have a nearly ideal vga connection between computer and monitor (again running at native resolution) then the setup should work and no impact on color management should occur. In many cases, however, the vga (analog) interfaces to digital (liquid crystal) displays can produce less than ideal results for a number of reasons. This can result in pixel jitter and/or small shifts in color. SO the advice is that if you go the vga route and you are concerned with color accuracy you must recalibrate the vga-fed monitor.  Make sure the dvi-to-vga converter can handle the resolution (high analog frequency) if you have a high pixel count display.

  • 24 pin DVI-D to Mini VGA adapter for external monitor

So I am about to buy a 20" Dell lcd monitor and I found out I need an adapter to the ibooks mini DVI port, can anyone direct me towards a 24 pin DVI-D to mini VGA so I can connect this monitor to my 12" ibook?
    Thank You

The iBook does not have a mini-DVD port. The iBook has a mini-VGA port.
The mini-VGA to VGA adapter is the Apple VGA Display Adapter M8639G/A.

  • Best Mini Display to DVI adapter for 2011 17" MBP w/no blocked ports!

I am looking to get a Mini Display to DVI adapter for my 2011 17" MBP.
+(Preferably it would even be one with a 6' cord.)+
It is not clear which one I should buy. Apple's (adapter only, no cord), is $30, while I can see others for far less on Amazon.
I have read that some of these adapters actually block the FW800 and USB ports on either side.
A blocked, or displaced FW800 port is a deal breaker.
    1. Can someone with a 2011 17" MBP tell me that they have either one of these adapters, or the one with the cord, and that it doesn't block their FW800 port? (I'll pay the $30 (albeit grudgingly) if its the only one that works.)
    2. This may be a dumb question, but the specs on these adapters say that they are capable of 1080p resolution. Would that mean they would work with a 1920x1200 monitor?

You might want to try the "MBP Display" discussion threads, might be able to find what you are looking for in there or get better support there.
I don't think I can help very much, but I have the Apple's adapter (no cord) and it doesn't block my usage of FW.
