Adapter from firewire to usb 2.0

My iMac doesn't have USB 2.0, and my iPod Touch says it requires that to sync. I tried using USB 1.1 and firewire, and neither worked. USB 1.1 tried to sync, but couldn't complete (less than 1% through when it hanged up).
I found a LaCie HUB (firewire to multiple firewire and usb 2.0 connections). Does anyone have any experience with this unit? It's about $89.00 and I don't want to buy and then be disappointed.
Thanks,
Bryan

On all the hubs I have seen that have both Firewire and USB, the Firewire ports only connect to the Firewire port on the computer, and the USB ports only to the USB ports on the computer.
In other words, the hub does not translate between protocols, (USB and Firewire). You need a computer to do that not a hub.
I've seen questions about upgrading an iMac to USB 2, but I don't know if that is possible for your iMac.

  • Convert from firewire to USB ???

I have a 1st gen 20gb ipod which i bought 3 years ago. My problem is that it is very slow to synchronise from pc to ipod and to update will take up to 50 mins. I have taken this for granted until I bought a nano for my wife and saw how fast this synchronises (I know its only a 4gb but I only have my ipod half full)
The orginal ipods came with firewire connection only and i am wanting to know if it is possible to get a connector to allow me to use my much faster usb 2 port in an attempt to speed up the painfully slow process.
Can anyone help with this please
    Cheers
    Any
      Windows XP

"I charge it via the mains lead and not via pc."
But still, the iPod needs extra power when it's connected to the PC, because the HD would empty the battery within minutes.
"Is there any other way of making the synch faster ??"
If you are already at the latest firmware version (v1.5), I'd say there isn't any, since, in that case, it must be the iPods hardware, which is unable to go any faster.
After all, your iPod is 3 years old...

  • HELP!!!  Changed from Firewire to USB

    Ok,
I took my firewire cable home so that I could hook in to my system at home and went to usb for the office. When I hooked in using the USB it is recognizing a different name for the same Ipod that I've had for over a year now. I don't remember using this name but maybe I did when I first set it up. One song shows up under the new name for the Ipod but the rest of the songs do not. They are still there on the ipod and in itunes.
How do I get Itunes or my computer to recognize the other name, etc?

Never mind, I changed the path letter of the Ipod and it works fine now.

  • Switched from Firewire to USB 2.0 now iPod doesn't work

I have a card that has both firewire & usb ports. I've been using firewire with no issues. Since Apple has phased out the firewire & I plan on gettting a Nano, I decided to use the USB 2.0 port to synch with my iPod. For some reason, as soon as the computer recognizes that the iPod is connected via USB 2.0, Windows restarts itself. Any suggestions on how I can fix this problem?

Is there a reason why you can't use Firewire with your current iPod? If so I would recommend you keep using Firewire for your iPod, and (of course) use USB2 for your future iPod nano.

  • Will Firewire to USB 2.0 adapter work for 5G iPod?

Interested in getting a 5G iPod for an overseas trip. I have a flat panel iMac with only USB 1.0 and Firewire. I've heard that there is an adapter from Firewire to USB 2.0. Anyone heard of this? If so, can that be used to transfer files using Firewire instead of USB 1.0? I am afraid that loading movies using USB 1.0 will take forever!

    hi guys,
can somebody explain me how that is possible. I don't know if it is working properly. But in case it is why isn't somebody else producing it?

  • Firewire to USB or Thunderbolt cable

Need to get an adapter to bring video from firewire to USB or thunderbolt.  Suggestions?

Apple has announced (on 6/11/12) a Thunderbolt-Firewire adapter for use on the Air, but it is not in the Apple Online Store as of yet. This would seem to be the most practical solution.

  • Hello, I have a Sony GV D300E mini DV editing deck.MY imac latest I7 model does not see it when I plug it in via firewire to usb, any help please.

My iMAC i7 will not see the device, it is from firewire to usb.
    Any help please.

The connection on the player is firewire
    You need the following:
    Apple Thunderbolt - Firewire adapter
4-pin to 9-pin Firewire cable like this one
    No software drivers are needed.
No icon will appear on your Mac desktop when the deck is connected.  You need to use video capture software such as iMovie, Final Cut, etc. in order to "see" and use your Firewire deck. (I believe QuickTime Player will also "see" your deck and allow playback.)   You will probably have to use the manual controls on the deck to control actual playback start & stop.
I have recently bought a cable, firewire one end and USB on the other
Hard to believe there is such a cable.  If there is such a cable, it's a scam.  Firewire and USB are totally different, electrically and protocol-wise.  Even if there is such a cable, it will not work for connecting your miniDV player to a Mac.   miniDV (video) has always been a Firewire-based connection. Sony calls Firewire "i.Link"

  • Firewire to USB adapter?

I recently purchased a iMac 27 i5. Love it. But it has only USB and thunderbolt ports. My beloved Nikon 4000 film scanner only has firewire connectivity. I found a firewire to USB adapter online and purchased one. It came from China. When I plugged it into my self-powered USB hub, I got a message saying a USB device was drawing too much power and it shut down one or more other USB devices to protect the computer. I couldn't print. I realized the adapter might be the problem and when I disconnected it, my printer came back online.
Q1 -- has anybody found a firewire to USB adapter that works?
Q2 -- is there another workaround to connect firewire devices to the new iMacs?
Q3 -- is it possible to have a USB port put into the scanner hardware?
    George

Thanks, Niel. That makes sense ... should have thought of that ... assuming that will reduce the excessive power draw?  I see Apple sells the 400-800 cable.

  • Firewire to USB 2.0 adapter

We have a few computers whose firewire ports aren't working correctly. I'd still like to use an external firewire drive with them if I can find an adapter for firewire 400 to USB 2.
    Does anyone know of any?
    Thanks,
    Dan

I don't know if there is an adaptor or not but what is wrong with the firewire ports? They generally don't go bad. Have you tried resetting the ports?
I believe to reset the ports you have to power down the Mac, and unplug it for about 5 minutes then plug it back in and reboot. If the port needed resetting that should take care of it.

    tyler57,
it would be better to direct that question to Gary Loftis, since my MacBook Pro doesn’t have a Thunderbolt port.

  • Is out there a firewire to usb adapter?

    Hello,
I am looking for a firewire to usb adapter, so I have a third usb port on my macbook pro late 2011. Does it excist?

Keep your eyes open for the Thunderbolt hubs and adapters that are starting to come out  Some of them have multiple jacks with USB 2, USB 3, Firewire, etc all sharing the Thunderbolt port.  Some even have internal disk drives and one has a Blu-ray DVD drive.  Some are kind of pricey, but gives you lots of options for connectivity.

  • Elements doesnt recognise my panasonic vdr -d250 camcorder. Does elements capture video from camcorders by usb. Camcorder has no firewire.

does premiere elements capture video from camcorders using usb. my camera does not have firewire

Major backup time regarding your "capture", "USB connection", "no firewire for camcorder".......
Let us start again. Your question was interpreted as one concerning DV data capture into Premiere Elements capture window (requires a firewire connection).
I just dug into the user guide for your camera...instead of a miniDV camcorder, I find a camera that records DVD-VIDEO to a DVD disc. Is that your camera's description? That puts a different complexion to the matter. Please confirm that you are recording to a DVD-VIDEO standard to widescreen on a DVD disc. If not that, then please explain with more details.
If you camera is recording as I now believe, you do not need a firewire or USB connection.
    1. Place the finalized DVD disc in the DVD burner tray of your computer.
    2. If you are working with Premiere Elements 12 Windows, then set the project preset for NTSC DV Standard or Widescreen (or the PAL counterpart, depending on your computer setup), and then, in the Expert workspace of Premiere Elements 12, Add Media/"DVD camera or computer drive", Video Importer.
This process copies (rips) video files (VOBs) of the DVD-VIDEO and allows you to put these video files on the program's Timeline for edits and export.
Please let us know if we are now in sync on what you are seeking.
    Thanks.

I'm having a brand new unopened Apple 5W USB adapter from UK for my iphone 5. I want an Indian version USB adapter. Will Apple Store replace my USB adapter for free of cost ?

Perhaps, but maybe not, as what can they do with one with the UK plugs?  I'm just saying regional things like that often have to be returned at a store in the country you bought them.
But, just go and ask as the worse they can say is no.  If they do say no they cannot exchange it, then for very little money you can buy a UK-to-India plug adapter and use that charger in India anyway.  Such plug adapters are only $2-$5 here in the USA on Amazon.
