Adapter Light Always Red, Battery Charge Never Gets Past 99%
Hi.
My 2007 MacBook Pro's adapter is now showing only the orange/red light and never getting green. Also, the taskbar never shows 100% battery charge when the adapter is plugged in, but it does when you first remove the adapter.
My battery life is pretty short nowadays (never more than 45 to 60 minutes) and it's getting pretty hot near where the adapter connects. My fans seem to be running a lot more than usual, too.
Any ideas?
Do non-OEM batteries exist?
"Third-party" may be the better-understood term (I get "OEM" but others may not). Yes, there are some out there. However, one key item makes me nervous about them.
Other World Computing (OWC) sells an amazing number of Mac add-ons and replacement parts. It's my personal experience that they give excellent service after the sale, standing behind what they sell. OWC carries third-party batteries for Mac portables going back to the G3 Wallstreet, but they do not list any MBP batteries. This makes me think that they don't have confidence in what's out there.

Note that the prices aren't much less that what Apple charges, especially for the 17: model. I ordered a battery for a Wallstreet PowerBook from that vendor and it was identical to an Apple-branded battery yin every way except the sticker on it. It was a good battery, but I have no way of knowing if their MBP batteries are from the same vendor as the Wallstreet batteries.

Green = not charging.
Orange = charging.
Note that if your laptop is pulling enough power (using CPU and GPU heavily) the light will turn green because the power adapter cannot provide enough power to charge your batteries in addition to keeping the system going.
In fact, you can drain your batteries even with the adapter plugged in with the 17 inch Macbook Pro if you push it hard enough, although I have not noticed this problem with my Retina Macbook Pro. -

Admin console never gets past discovery
trying to run admin console for iMS 5.2, never gets past the "running discovery stage". I get the error: java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: javax/swing/Jpanel at java.lang.ClassLoader.defineClass(Compiled Code)
Any ideas on how to fix this? This is on a Solaris 8 system. Note that the console for the iDS 5.1 runs fine (this is on the same machine).I also got this one...
the problem is : the .jars used for the iMS 5.2 console work badly with any Iplanet Console V5.x (they are for a console 4.2)
in the other way, the jars used for iDS5.x work wery badly (if not at all) with a server console v4.2
console 4.2 is installed in the server root of iMS 5.x
console 5.x is installed in the server root of iDS 5.x
so indeed, if these server roots are different, you "almost got" no problem (2 different consoles), unless :
both your servers are in the same administration domain, in which case you have a "server Group" and a "server group (2)" in any of the 2 consoles
if you mess things up in console 4.2, ie you try just once to load the jars of iDS 5.x by clicking on a Directory server Instance, then on subsequent startup, your console 4.2 goes no further than the screen "running discovery".
the workaround is somewhere documented, the quick explanation is :
in the jars directory of the console 4.2, find all jars which are used for iDS5.x, and replace them by 0 byte-sized files (nullfiles). This allows the console to reload correctly, and prevents you from further trying to load/use iDS5.x jars on a 4.2 console (you get a red dot in place of the standard icon) -
Ipod touch keeps on restarting, never get past the Apple logo

I have a first generation ipod touch.
Since last week, as soon as I unplug the ipod from my macbook, it keeps on restarting and never get past the apple logo, until the battery empties out. But, when it is connected to my computer, it works just fine. I tried to restore it two times, but the same thing happens. Trouble with E-Mail Setup, never get past "Testing...
Just downloaded the latest Nokia Messaging App (Nokia Email 10.02(4)) never get past "Testing Network Connections" screen. Now- I can get email through standard "non-html" messaging, but when I try the other (the one applicatin that looks like an @ symbol), it says "Testing network connections", and never get past that. I do not have 3G, I have T-mobile pay as you go, and I also have wireless LAN at home, connect to the internet well, and as I said, get emaill through the less graphical form of Messaging, I just like the @ app, and it used to work, somehow got messed up.

My MacBook Air running on Snow Leopard gets extremely slow (almost like a hang, except if you wait about half an hr, it actually moves) after login interface. Sometimes it never gets past the background of the homepage, desktop doesn't seem to load. After multiple forced shut downs and left to run for hours, sometimes the desktop loads but the dock does not respond when applications are opened. The computer is then unable to shut down normally. Forced shut downs are necessary most times. Time machine backup takes extremely long, and attempts to use the time machine to bring the laptop back to the time befiore the problem arose was met with extremely slow and hung time machine function.
Please help!There isn't much besides a failing hard drive or other hardware fault that can cause those symptoms. Run the Apple Hardware Test, or just take it to an Apple Store for testing.

i have no backup and my imac wont start , safe mode never gets past spinning loading icon and i left it all night yesterday,
when i used disk utility when booting from the install disk im told the "disk is damaged " but the repair utility wont run sand tells me to back up etc....

Don't do anything with this Mac until you have an external disk which you can boot your Mac from.
Not all USB disks are easy to boot from - FireWire is better
When you have a suitable empty external disk I advise:
Put install DVD into damaged Mac
partitioning external disk into 2 volumes
install OS onto one volume of external disk
Don't import anything during install process - it may reintroduce historic problems
Boot external disk
Use finder to copy critical data from Mac to volume of external disk with OS
Use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone the whole Mac hard disk to the other external volume
Boot into installer DVD and erase Mac's internal disk
Partition internal disk into 2 volumes and install OSs as required -
Adapter light GREEN but battery does not charge NEED HELP, PLEASE!
My battery won't charge but the problem is a little different from others I have seen posted. The battery shows 3% charge but the adapter light is green. If the computer adapter is disconnected, the computer shuts down (as we would expect at 3% charge). I used another MacBook Pro cord to plug in and the same thing happens.

I purchased this 15" MacBook Pro (Oct 2006) from a reputable non Apple Apple dealer but f course this problem started a week or so after it was out of their resale warranty. There is nothing to say "check battery" just that it is not charging. It is a trek to ANY apple dealer or reseller and it is hard for me to get there easily so I was hoping someone might have an idea what is wrong and do what I can from home. Could it just be the battery? It seems more like a problem with the adapter connection. OCCASIONALLY, the light on the adapter will flicker on orange/red for a few seconds before going to green.
THANKS!The only way to tell if you have a hardware problem is to trek on down to your local AS or AASP for them to run some diagnostic tests. If it turns out to be just the battery, you can purchase directly from them. I am assuming you do not have AppleCare....

Hello everyone!
My Zen 4GB which I bought 2 months ago has a problem with its battery. When I bought it, everything was working as it should: when the battery was fully charged, the flashing lightning bolt icon changed to a power plug.
I don't exactly remember when the problem began, but now the charging never stops and the lightning bolt icon is always flashing. No matter how long it is plugged, the power plug icon, which indicates full charge, just won't show up. But if I then unplug & replug it in the USB, the power plug icon appears, and on the Properties window on the computer the charge shows 00%. So the player seems to charge itself fully, but the charge stopping system doesn't seem to work properly.
What should I do?Several steps:
1. See if you can discharge the Zen almost all the way down and then recharge it to see if the plug indication comes in and halts the charging.
2. Try another USB port or charge the Zen directly into the PC without a USB hub.
3. Try charging on another PC
4. Try charging without a PC using an external charger.
5. If the above steps do not fix the problem then contact Creative. -
Music Downloads but never gets past processing file
I recently tried to purchase several songs but the process never seems to get past processing file. I can find the download.mp4 file but it never shows in my library

Have you tried temporarily disabling any security software you're running, to see if it still happens?
Also, do you use V CAST from Verizon? It has caused conflicts with itunes processing files. -

How techically skilled are you, how long have you used computers?
Do you think you can install a operating system or create a data recovery drive?
Can you perform the #6 Reset Users Permissions?

If you can't do any of these things and don't have a backup of your users data off the machine, then take your machine to a local PC/Mac service and they can assist.
If you find out there is a hardware problem, then take the machine to Apple to fix. -
'Generate your certificate' page never gets past 'generate'
I've been waiting several hours now, and tried through various different paths, and on several different days.
Generally, I've created a request (two now), following instructions, selected the file, and clicked on 'Generate'.
I'm stuck with a spinning 'Loading...' message. The only thing I can think of that might otherwise break this is the fact that I have expired certificates and provisioning profiles in my account.
How do I get past this? Am I the only one with this problem?

Power adapter light goes out & battery kicks in + random shutdowns
Hi,
there's a few weird things going on the last couple of weeks.....i'm wondering if any of them could have to do with the 10.4.9 update that i installed and really screwed up my mac.....it took an hour+ on apple tech support to do the re install because it would not load after i did that update.
so here's the screwy things that have been happening:
sometimes the light on the power adapter just goes off and the battery kicks in - i'm wondering why it does that........and sometimes the power light goes off the computer just shuts down at the same time really fast.......like in less than a second.....i'll wait a little bit and start up again and it'll happen again........but sometimes it'll fine for quite a while and then boom.......it shuts down again.
also, sometimes it's sleeping and when i pop the top the light on the adapter cord goes out.
also, the sleep light is not on when i am using it but goes on when i put it to sleep
i contacted apple (no apple care and past the 90 phone support) and they are sending a new power adapter cord.....the guy at tech didn't know if this was a hard drive issue (which means i could send it back and get it fixed for free cuz of warranty) so we're trying a new cord first and see what happens.
has this happened to anyone? my mac pro is about 5 months old....

actually the cord came today........and the other part - the square white thing with the cord connection to the mac with the magnet...... is coming separately - i found out after calling them and asking them where the rest of it was (he said maybe it was from a different warehouse was why they weren't together).......is that the "magsafe" that you're referring to?
when that comes i hope that when i hook it up it fixes the problem......i'm using my oldie but goodie ibook now until it's working ok....
the guy did not ask me to reset the smc.........i guess cuz i don't have apple care or tech support now that's all he was willing to do - send me a free power adapter and see if that works first - he said it was $49 to do anything else but if it was determined to be a hard drive issue then it would be free and refunded to me and i could send it back.
you know i think it depends on who you talk to......sometimes they help me even if i don't have the tech support.
so anyway when i get the adapter i'll hook it up and see if it's a go...

PS apple is quick - both times i've sent stuff to them i have gotten it back almost immediately. i talked to the guy yesterday and it was here today....can't beat that!
