Adapter plugged or only when charging?

Is it ok if the adapter of the macbook is plugged at all time even if the battery is full? Will it reduce the batteries life? What Im currently doing is that I only plug my adapter when the battery goes dead and unplug it when it's fully charged

It is OK to leave your battery hooked to the charger most of the time. The only time I unhook mine from the charger is when I calibrate or for a few minutes to use in another room. You should calibrate every two months or so to keep the battery fully functioning. If you use your MacBook infrequently, it’s best to re-calibrate the battery at least once a month.
The new MacBooks don't have anything about calibrating but you still need to discharge the battery every month or two.
It is best not to use your battery unless you need to. Some people hurt their batteries by charging then discharging every time they use the MacBook. This will age a battery very fast and cause you to buy a battery sooner than you should have too. Don't discharge the battery just because you used it. Li-Ion batteries prefer small charges over big ones. Use it and then plug it in as soon as you can. The only time my Battery is ever fully discharged is when I'm doing a calibration.

  • What is the right way to connect the adapter to my macbook when charging?

what is the right way to connect the adapter to my macbook when charging.
is it connect the magsafe connector first before plugging the adapter to the outlet? or the way around? or both ways will do?
what if i'm using a surge protection with a on/off button, can I just turn the surge protector extension on and off without disconnecting the magsafe connector and adapter plug from my laptop when i'm not using it?
    thank you very much

If there is any arcing it may be because the adapter is dirty. It is best to plug in the wall wart then attach the magsafe to the MacBook. As GfulDedFan mentioned this reduces the chance of power surging the MacBook. I have done mine this way since he day I bought it and have never had an arc. I keep it clean to reduce the chance of this happening. The following will help in the care of your supply.

When I turn 3G i-pad is turned off and turned on only when charging! What should I do?

Not too sure of what you are saying but try a Reset [Hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons down together for 10 seconds or so (until the Apple logo appears) and then release. When the screen goes blank then power ON again in the normal way.] It is 'appsolutely' safe!

I have a 15" powerbook G4 and suddenly it turns itself off automatically if i unplug the charger, its very weird. I have a battery and its charged, etc. etc., but it only wants to turn on when the charger is plugged.

    Thanks for any help

Have you used the PowerBook G4 Battery Updater 1.1? I couldn't get my brand new 1.67GHz 15" PB to work until I ran the updater.

can anyone help me figure this one out?
Also, the battery is really weak, it will only run for about 1hr on full charge. i dont know if that will affect it but if it does please let me know.
    Thanks

Mine does the same, I can get it to work by taking off the bottom plastic part of the Ipod Mini and pulling the metal thing out a bit.

  • Iphone 4 showed "searching" on top left corner, now blanked out- wont turn on, only when charger is plugged in.

Anyone know what's going on or what i could do to fix this please?

    Hello E_Motuliki
If you can, try and put your iPhone into recovery mode and then use iTunes to restore it to see if it resolves all the issues that you are seeing with the service as well as the powering off.

  • Fans stuck at full speed, only when charger is plugged in

I just had my logic board replaced under warranty, and I have a strange new symptom. Whenever my AC adapter is plugged in, the fans are screaming at 6,000 RPMs. The temp is only 97F. When I unplug the computer, the fans drop to 3,000 RPMs.
I already tried resetting SMC and PRAM... Any other suggestions?

Have you tried running the extended version of the Apple Hardware Test? It sounds as if there might be a thermal sensor problem, although I don't know why the fans would spin at maximum only under AC power.
In any event, the thing to do is to report the problem to whoever did the work. I suspect a thermal sensor may not have been properly located or may not be well seated on the logic board. It shouldn't take too long to determine what the problem is and fix it.
    Good luck!

  • Sender File Adapter should run only when trigger file is found PI 7.1

I am using PI 7.1 . I have a File Sender Adapter communication channel that needs to poll for a trigger file - input.trg  . Only If that is found then it needs to pick up the actual data file -  input.dat   .  The Transport Protocol is  FTP not NFS, so I cannot use standard features like   'Addtional Files'.
Is there any other workaround for this ? OS Commands etc?
I have also read that I can use BPM for this . Could anyone help me out with the steps and if you have any good blog on BPM.
    Thanks !

    Hi Dev,
You can use BPM for this. The steps benig
    1. Fork with two receive step (one for trigger file and one for dat) . The end condition of fork is when both brach is completed.
    2. transformation step
    3. send step
you can use a dummy correlation between the two input files (trigger and dat input file)..

  • Plug gets hot when charging iPad mini

Hi, I charged my new iPad mini for the 1st time today, for just over an hour. It reached 50% and the plug felt dangerously hot. Is this a fault with the charger which was supplied with the mini or the mini iPad? Has anyone else experienced this issue? Why is it happening and is it dangerous?
    Thank you

It does not sound normal. I suggest yopu take it Apple and allow them to check it out.

  • Powerbook G4 won't charge battery or run with power adapter plugged in.

My Titanium Powerbook G4 will not charge the battery or run with the power adapter plugged in. When plugged in the power adapter doesn't change to amber showing its charging. Instead it has a green light that flashes off and on. I thought it was a defective power adapter but when its plugged in to another powerbook its seems to be working properly. I reset the PMU but that didn't help. I have been unable to find anything that would tell me what a flashing green means.
    Powerbook Titanium G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Hi, Marshall. With no power being supplied to the Mac for several months, not only has your main battery gone flat (and may never again be able to take a charge), but your internal backup battery has also gone flat. A Tibook with a dead backup battery generally will not start up at all, even with AC power connected.
Try this: remove the main battery and leave the AC power adapter connected overnight in an attempt to recharge the backup battery. If the Powerbook won't start in the morning under AC power, the backup battery is shot, has lost the ability to be charged, and must be replaced.
If the PB starts up in the morning on AC power, set the date and time correctly, shut the computer down, insert the main battery, and allow 48 hours with AC power connected in an attempt to charge the main battery. Then disconnect the AC adapter and try to start up under battery power. If that doesn't work, and no lights or only one flashing light appear when you press the power-indicator button on the battery, you'll have to replace the main battery.

  • Ihpone 5 Touch screen unresponsive when charging

I noticed my screen became Unresponsive and behaving erratically while it was charging. The charger is an Apple OEM charger. If I unplug it from the phone the screen begins to work normally again.

Hi guys. I was having the same problem. Found this one another thread.
"Update: after my second iPhone 5 immediately had the same problem, again only when charging, I called Apple back. I had been using a third party USB wall plug and they recommended using the factory wall plug. No issues what-so- ever after the switch. They even told me to stop into my local store and they'd swap my third party adapter out with another Apple adapter at no charge. I'm very satisfied."
I'm using a 3rd party plug in b/c I lost my one from Apple. Haven't swapped yet, but it sounds like this might be the problem.

  • MacBook pro enters %E?+E? when charging into text boxes Why ? Mountain Lion.

When It is plugged in the computer will enter %E?+E? into all open text boxes and rename folders on the desktop to the same thing. Why is it doing this and why only when charging ? Its a MacBook Pro 7,1 running Mountain lion. Is this a pram related issue ? The battey holds charge just fine and charges up fine.
    Thanks

Try booting into the Safe Mode to see if it contiues to happen.  Shut down the computer and then power it back up. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application unistaller. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

  • Macbook won't sleep with power adapter plugged in

    Hi,
My Macbook has stopped going to sleep if the power adapter is plugged in.
I have the power adapter energy setting to sleep after 30 minutes. When I got the Macbook (about a month ago) the thing would sleep until I pressed the spacebar.
Now, the screen blanks but otherwise the Mac remains awake.
If I close the lid the Mac immediately goes to sleep.
I have reset the SMU but this didn't fix the problem. I also checked disk permissions and verified the disk in Disk Utility - all good.
    Suggestions?
    Thanks,
    John

my MacBook has also stopped going to sleep with the power adapter plugged in or when using battery power, unless I close the lid. Did you ever figure out the problem? Did you try calling Apple Care?
    thanks,
    Liz
