Adapter to charge iPhone 5 from 12 volt 30-pin connector

I have a 2005 VW that lets me play an iPod through the car stereo. That's good. However the connection is via a 30-pin connector with 12 V (Firewire I think) charging circuit. So an iPhone or newer iPod won't charge. I'd like to use it with an iPhone 5 which means I need an adapter for a Lightning connector. Does anybody know of a way to make this work? I'd like to be able to both play music from the phone and charge the phone.
In case it helps / makes a difference the interface to the radio is VW part number 1K0051444.

If the VW wiring is the old firewire implementation( and from that date it probably is ) then you will need
a 30 to 30 pin adapter to change the wiring for newer Apple devices .I used Scosche brand  adapter successfully   ( a premium brand )
Then  to use a lightning device the Apple 30 pin to lightning adapter .( Use Apple for best chance of success, cheap knockoffs  I would not recommend )
Wll it will work ,who knows but if you want this simple solution give it a try
ps I doubt there is 12 v in the ols 30 pin connector ,it will be 5v but pins do not match the later iOS devives

  • Can I charge my iPad mini and/or my iPhone 4S from 220 volt outlets using just the correct plug adapter for the country.

Can I charge my iPad mini and/or my iPhone 4S from 220 volt outlets using just the correct plug adapter for the country, without a power converter?

Not staff or owner by a long shot.
I just know that anecdotally I have seen people reporting issues with their mini's charging. Is there a real issue or not? I don't know. Not a day goes by that a person doesn't post here complaining that their iPad won't charge and it turns out that they're trying to do it via USB or with the iPhone block.
But while there are a lot of user fixes sometimes it's good to have the pros take a look at things, and at the very least document that there has been an issue.
the four main reasons an iPad won't charge (beyond being plugged into a USB port)
    Bad cable
    bad outlet
    bad brick
rule those out and it leaves issue with the iPad.

  • Use 5V 1.5A Adapter to charge iphone 6 plus

    Hi all ...
can I use a 5V 1.5A adapter to charge iphone 6 plus ? will it affect the battery life or blow up the phone ?

As long as the charger provides 5 volts, and the amperage is sifficient, it should work. Higher amperages have no effect at all on the iPhone. The phone controls the current, not the power supply.

Yes, you can. You will simply need a plug adapter for the North American power system.

  • Safe to charge iPhone 4 from surge protector being powered by 1000w generator?

Is it safe to charge my iPhone 4 from a generator (1000w) on an extension cord. My USB adapter is plugged into a surge protector from the generator.

If it's a third-party accessory, nobody here can be 100% certain if it will work safely.
The only way to find out is to try it yourself, but do so at your own risk.
I would suggest looking online for reviews of your exact product to see what others say about the charger.

  • IPhone 5 Lightning to old 30 Pin Connector with FireWire Power implementation

I've been searching the Web and specialized Shops for a Adapter or Cable-Hack Solution.
    Here the Challenge:
I am using a Car Audio Connector (Becker Indianapolis 7953 + Remote Kit for iPhone).
It's connected to my iPhone 5 using a Lightning to 30-Pin Adapter.
Connection Works great, regarding to Music and iPhone Control.
Problem is the Connector is using a old implementation which is using the FireWire Pins for charging, which obviously doesn't work with iPhone 3G and later - so iPhone doesnt Charge.
I am wondering if there is a Solution like: Cut the Cable and put it together in the right Way? Or an Lightning Adapter to old 30-Pin?
    I've found a old 30-Pin FireWire implementation to 30-Pin Adapter, but I don't want to use a Adapter-Adapter-Solution. :-(
Any ideas or experiences? Thanks alot!

    Hi
I have the Becker Cascade with the iphone adapter.
The only solution I could find then was with the adapter. I found some info on rebuilding the iphone adapter but in essence it does the same as the firewire to usb power adapter.(I use the Scosche adapter)
So don’t worry about the adapter adapter solution regarding the firewire problem. It works great for me.
I use the iPhone 4 dock in the creditcard compartment (Audi A4), The only problem i got was that the dock does not pass thru all 30 pins. it splits out the audio to the Stereo jack. That i solved whit replacing the 30 pin connector with an angled one.
This alone makes me think twice about changing to iPhone 5. Cant se any solution regarding the cradle. I love the hidden installation in the Creditcard compartment. Just a click and i can insert my phone.

  • OK to use iPod Power Adapter to charge iPhone?

At the Apple Store, they told me that I could use a power adapter and cable for an iPod with my iPhone. Seems to work fine, charges the battery fine. But I notice that in the tiny print on the side of the iPod power adapter it says, "Output 12V -- .67A". The print on the side of the adapter that came with the iPhone says "Output 5V -- 1A".
Wouldn't want to fry my phone battery with those extra volts.

It's not $29.99 + $19.99. They include with the iPhone both a dock/charger and a power adapter/wall plug charger. But only one cable between either of them and your iPhone. So, if you have a computer in one room and you charge your phone overnight in another room, you need another cable.
One solution is to to use some cable you already have, that fits, such as I did once, from an iPod 2 or 3 years old. But I had to use the power adapter that came with that cable/iPod, since the USB cable end was different. It said output: 12V. the iphone power adapter said output: 5V.
So, although the cable fit and the iPhone charged seemingly fine, I was not comfortable charging my $600 iphone with a 12v charger when the one that came with it was a 5v charger. I paid just $19.99 for a duplicate cable to the one that came with the iPhone, used the 5v power adapter that also came with it. Just in case. The apple guy at the "genius bar" agreed: it "ought to work" but, yeah...it's disconcerting...
So, that's the story. I now have a dock on my iMac and a power-adapter from the wall in my bedroom. Both supplied with the iPhone. Both using identicl cables.
What I would like to know, from some tech person, is YEA or NAY. The 5v and 12v iphone and ipod adapters are interchangeable OR they are not and WHY. Otherwise, we are all just speculating.

I am in Switzerland for a few days.  Can I use my iPad charger (110/220) with an 220 plug adapter to charge my iPHONE 4?

Apple's 30 pin connector are all the same within the ipods, iphones and ipads that support the 30 pin connector. There is no difference as they are an universal design and will work perfectly with no issues

  • Charging iPhone 3GS in Sweden with adapter that has integrated USB ports

I'll be traveling to Sweden in a few weeks, and I found an adapter that has two integrated USB ports. Both my husband and I have iPhones, 3GS models. If we get this adapter, can we use the USB ports on it to charge our iPhones in Sweden? It doesn't convert voltage.

Please excuse me if I write something you already know, but, based on your last message that you are worried because you adapter "doesn't convert voltage," I'll give it a shot anyway.
The voltage that is supplied to your wall outlet is alternating current (AC). In the US and Canada this is 120 volts AC. In Europe - and in many countries around the world - it is 220 volts AC.
A USB port on a computer, or an equivalent USB outlet on an adapter, supplies between 4.75 volts and 5.25 volts direct current (DC). The same kind of power that is supplied by a battery.
The adapter that you mention, that has two USB ports available, DOES convert the voltage from 120 volts AC (or 220 volts AC) to approximately 5 volts DC.
As I mentioned in my first reply, if the adapter can be used for voltages from 110 volts AC to 220 volts AC you will not have any problems in Europe. All that you need to do is to plug it in the wall socket in Sweden and then plug your iPhones into the adapter via the regular sync/power cable that you use all the time. If your adapter is not "universal" - that is, it doesn't have all the plug adapters for European countries you can pick one up online or at a Radio Shack (or similar store) or even at most airport stores. Do a Google search for "Sweden, power outlets" and you can see what the outlets look like.
    Good luck,
    Mike

    Hi Shawn,
It sounds like the person who installed the hardware didn't install the software properly for you. You should reinstall this to get full functionality and control yourself.
    The process is easy:
) With the computer on, close all programs that are running and put the Creative CD-ROM into your computer's CD or DVD dri've. There are probably several disks; the one that you want should say 'Intallation and Applications CD' on the label.
    2) The Setup program should start automatically in a few moments, but if nothing happens, click your Start menu and choose Run..., then click the Browse button. From the 'Look In' drop-down menu, choose your CD/DVD dri've. In the list of files that appears, choose the one called Setup or Setup.exe.
    3) The Setup program will let you choose what to install. Choose to install everything. There might be two separate Setup processes that start after this: one for the soundcard's drivers, and one for the Creative MediaSource software. Within each process, when you are given the choice of Full, Custom, or Basic, select Full in each case. Follow the instructions in the programs and they will guide you through the setup process.
IMPORTANT: you will likely be given the option to use digital output only to your speakers. Only select this if you have digital speakers, attached to the sondcard through only one digital cable. If your speakers are attached using several cables, you should use analog output.
    4) Once all of the Setup programs are completed, they will probably have you restart your computer.
All of the above should have been done when the card was first installed, but it seems that whoever you paid to do the installation didn't bother with the software install.
After this is all done, you should be able to use all of your speakers. If you are still having trouble, you will be able to follow the instructions that you were given before on how to enable CMSS.
    Good luck!

  • Charging Iphone from a 12v VRLA battery

    Hi
When I am fishing I can be away from home for up to 3 days with no mains power. With this I am thinking of charging my iphone from a 12v battery, but I don't know where I can find a cable which has the iphone connector, split to crocodile clips to attach to the battery
Can anyone point me in the right direction please?
    Thanks

The PowerJolt is just a standard car charger for the iPhone 3G/3GS. I suggested an the croc to cig adapter with an iPhone car charger, listing the PowerJolt as one example of such a charger - Belkin, Kensington, lots of vendors make them. The brand doesn't matter, _as long as it is specified to work with the iPhone 3G/3GS_. That's an important distinction since most older car chargers for iPods, even though they have a dock connector, are delivering power over the FireWire power pins in the connector (no step-down required since FireWire can carry up to 18 V, meaning the adapters were cheaper to make, meaning more profit for the vendor) - older iPods and the Original iPhone could draw power from the FireWire pins, but the iPhone 3G and 3GS (along with newer iPods) cannot.
