Adapter to use 3G with older hardware

I just bought a new car (Aston Martin) and it has an iPhone/iPod plug which is integrated into the car's audio system. Unfortunately, the folks at Aston must still be using old iPods to test with because their new cars don't work with new iPods or iPhones. You get the "accessory not made to work" message when you plug it in.
I know that there is the power adapter from Scosche which will let me at least charge my iPhone, but I also want my car to be able to control my music too, and the Scosche adapter doesn't fix that part of the problem.
So, the question is, is there a different adapter out there that fixes the entire problem and let's older "interfacing" hardware work with the newer iPod/iPhones?
Thanks,
_Brian

Well, interfacing hardware all use the same protocols to talk to the iPod/iPhone. They're not doing anything funky. It's just that Apple changed those interfaces in the new hardware in 2008 so old accessories stopped working. From what I'm told it was because Apple wanted a way to make money from the accessory manufacturers, so those companies now have to pay for a license to use some special chip to make their devices work with the new iPhones.
So... what that means is that I need an adapter that has this chip in it and is able to translate the interface coming from old pre-2008 hardware to the new 2008+ hardware. It should be doable, but I just don't know if such an adapter is out there.

    >Step 1. Backup existing data using time machine.
Time Machine is nice, but you have very little in terms of ability to verify that your data is all backed up.      I find Time Machine is better for the occasional recovery of previously written data at specific times.  A good backup solution that survives an erase and install (there is no clean install in Mac OS X), is a clone, and preferably TWO clones.    See my FAQ*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html
Time Machine can work as good as a clone, and in fact I once had to rely on it because my hard drive died.  Thankfully it did recover everything.   But I had my clone just in case it didn't work.     Now I feel more comfortable since clones allow you to boot themselves, and thus prove all the important system information got saved, and not just the user data.
Clones are also easier to import with the migration assistant.

  • Possible to use Proto with older verions of Dreamweaver like CS4

can adobe proto files work with older dreamweaver software such as cs4?

It is true that you will be able to change the page size, but you won't have access to using the media queries that automatically display the proper page depending which device is viewing it. You would have to find a 3rd party script for that.
Once you make any changes to files done in Proto you can no longer edit them in Proto. Proto isn't meant to be a web design program .. it's a wireframing program. Simply to quickly and easily draw out your concepts and create a good starting point for editing in your web design program, usually Dreamweaver.
My honest opinion on what to do since you are a student would be to subscribe to Creative Cloud instead of actually buying it. It's unbelievably inexpensive for students and you will always all of the latest tools you will need. But it would be a great time to make use of your student status.

  • Using EXA with VIA hardware

According to xorg.freedesktop.org, EXA now works with VIA Unichrome:
    Supported:
        * i128 (Solid and Copy only so far, incompatible with DGA, only tested on T2R4 cards)
        * radeon (r100/r200 with Render accel, r300 and r400 core-only. DGA 2d acceleration unsupported).
        * sis (sis/xgi; Solid and Copy only)
        * trident cyberblade and xp4 (Solid and Copy only)
        * via (Solid, Copy, Render)
    However, when I add
    Option "AccelMethod" "exa"
to the "Device" section in xorg.conf, EXA is not used, and I get this in Xorg.0.log:
(WW) VIA(0): Option "AccelMethod" is not used
This happens with both the xf86-video-via and xf86-video-unichrome drivers. Could someone please explain to me why this is happening, and how I can get EXA working with one or both of those drivers?

What makes you think Xorg 7.1 will be better with compositing in the classic ways? EXA has been improved, but it's still experimental and slow. The only improvements I've seen is rendering glitches that got solved and a complete API change to make it more usable.
You will need an OpenGL compositor, like metacity or a patched up version of compiz, and then, you still won't be able to use compositing with AIGLX, since the required driver extensions are not implemented in all DRI drivers.
Also, rendering on a shitty VIA chipset with shared memory and experimental flaky drivers (what else would you call a chip where 3 driver projects exist for and where the developers don't like eachother) don't know what is faster, CPU or "GPU" rendering...
Wait, the required extensions haven't been implemented at all for Via hardware? I thought that it could do compositing if it could handle textures with OpenGL...
(FWIW GPU rendering is faster than CPU rendering on my machine. Unichrome is very low-powered hardware, but for most things it's good enough to get the job done.)
The only plus of the VIA chips are the documentation which are available unofficially. The only problem with it: it's taiwanese english, which means your VIA unichrome card has grammar correction instead of gamma correction on some pages of the specsheet.
LOL, that probably is a big problem. Might explain the crashes with BZFlag.

  • May I use Builder with older Flash files

That sums it up. Its a very simple question. I have used older versions of Flash to build many Flash files. I'm needing to redo my software and am wondering if Flash bulider, which is a good bit less coslty, to work with, modify, and add to my older files? Can I build new Flash files with the same functionality? Or..can I import older Flash files into builder and go from there?
This should be simple, and I appreciate your help. Thanks in advance.

So I glanced at the source. Note that you are using the
AC_RunActiveContent script to embed your swf.
So I tried to go to that script at:
    http://www.christykarpinski.com/Scripts/AC_RunActiveContent.js
(The src of the script on the page is
"../../Scripts/AC_RunActiveContent.js" and the page is in: "
    http://www.christykarpinski.com/videos/pages")
I got a 404 on the script. Double check that
    http://www.christykarpinski.com/Scripts/AC_RunActiveContent.js
is the actual path where the file is located on your server.

  • Using ColdFusion with input hardware

    Hello,
I am really new in this Coldfusion world and I was wondering
if it's possible to use some hardware to input information into

    Thank you
Where can I find an example?

ColdFusion is completely irrelevant to this question, unless
    you are
    thing of some unusual situation.
ColdFusion is a application server that runs on a network
    server. It
will handle data and requests sent to it by a web server. The
    web
server responds to request from clients usually using a
    browser, but
    increasingly by other tools.
It is this end client tool that needs to understand an
    alternate input
device such as a bar code scanner.
At the other end, ColdFusion just does not care where the
    data comes from.

Do you mean Photoshop CS3?   PS3 is ancient, totally obsolete, from the last millennium.
In any event, this sounds like a question for the Lightroom forum.

  • No compatability with older printer hardware/software and no windows media center

What can I say except that Microsoft is the only company that releases an inferior product after years of having a great product. Windows 8.1 and 8 would be fine if it were compatible with old hardware i.e. printers and had Windows Media Center. This is
now a very bare bones product. I certainly won't be paying the $129 price tag for Windows Pro 8.1 pack, just to get media center - not when there's so many free alternatives around for that. In future, don't purchase a photo quality printer that costs a fortune.
Buy a nasty cheap one with inexpensive cartridges, as eventually you won't be able to install the older software for your far superior printer i.e. Epson stylus photo 1270.  Sounds like a collusion with both Microsoft and Printer manufacturers to get
folk purchasing hardware they don't want or need, while they're older hardware works just fine - it's the new operating systems that don't. No thank you.

    Hi,
Please understand that Microsoft's partners have shared clear concerns over the costs associated with codec licensing for traditional media playback, especially as Windows 8 enables an unprecedented variety of form factors. Windows has addressed these concerns
in the past by limiting availability of these experiences to specialized “media” or “premium” editions.
That's why the Media center is separated for additional cost.
For the compatibility thing about older device, you can use the compatible mode to install the related driver on Windows 8 and 8.1 to get it work.

  • VXI-1394 adapter not recognizing or communicating with my hardware

I'm using a VXI-1394 adapter on conjunction with Labview to run some hardware that we build but the 1394 is unable to communicate with the hardware.  Resource Manager runs fine and I am able to load our software in labview, but there is no communications occuring.  I have swapped the suspect 1394 card with a known two seperate good ones and they work well.  I am fairly confident the board is bad, but I'm not sure how to desribe what is wrong on any technical level.
    -Tony

    Tony,
Before you send in your controller for repair, could you clarify a few things for us?  When you say that Resource Manager (resman) runs successfully what do you mean?  Does it find all the devices in the chassis?  Or does it just complete without locking up or failing?  Also, which 1394 boards have you swapped out, VXI-1394 cards or PCI-1394 interfaces?
The reason for the first set of questions is if you are able to find and recognize all the devices in your VXI chassis when running resman, then that is an indication that the board is working, and that there is some other problem with your system.
Also, have you tried changing the address of the VXI-1394 card or resetting the EPROM or anything like that?  Please let us know.
    Thanks,
    Logan S.

  • Since upgrading ical on mac can't sync calanders with older generation touch using 3.1.3os now calander on touch generates blank screen...any ideas

since upgrading ical on mac for .me account can't sync calanders with older generation itouch using 3.1.3os now calander on itouch generates blank screen...any ideas

Thank you for suggesting the link. it seems the problem was even simpler than I had thought had I read the FAQ link of the iCal/me upgrade notification ... Apple's latest version of iCal simply does not support versions of the iOS earlier than 4.2. The device I had been using was a first generation touch... Still working ... with out error in good condition despite having been to hades and back... But no longer supported by the newer versions of the iOS and the  .ME ical application...
Another beautiful but orphaned device:-(.  Like the absence of support for "ancient" apple operating systems, including   their more interesting applications, it is simply no longer supported...one must move on to purchase new hardware and it's associated  software to keep up with the evolving cloud os.   The blank screen ical problem, on the touch,  was corrected by performing the standard start up reboot procedure...with no loss of data  and a return of the screen interface in the end. Again another example of the really outstanding past efforts to make robust system products.   I will try to put my old touch to good  use in its new " retirement" status ...use it some where else, like my original 128k Mac ( that still works as well!). Guess it is time to purchase a newer tool ;-)
Thanks again for taking the time to make the effort to assist

  • Using GRaid Thunderbolt drive with older, non-thunderbolt mac.

I have a GRaid 4TB thunderbolt external drive. Can I use that with an older mac that doesn't have thunderbolt if I have a thunderbolt to firewire adapter?

It won't work.  No adapter exists at the moment.  At this point, a Thunderbolt display needs a Thunderbolt signal sent from a Thunderbolt compatible device.
MAYBE you can plug the older MBP into a Thunderbolt peripheral (like the Promise Pegasus RAID disk), then plug the Thunderbolt display into the Promise...but that seems like an overly expensive work-around.

  • Use of an Older Power Cable with a New MacBook Pro

I have purchased a new MacBook Pro 15". It comes with the power cord with the silver "L-shaped" magnetic end.
My old laptop, which is a MacBook from around 2006, came with the white squarish magnetic end. It fits just fine on the new MacBook pro and seems to work fine.
Is it safe to also use this as an additional power cord for my new MacBook Pro? (I know, it seems like a silly question, but when dealing with electricity issues, it's always good to double check. I'd hate to find out that for some reason something about the old cord fries something on the new system.)

The older Macbook's power adapter has a maximum output of 65 watts, while the 15" McBook Pro comes with an 85 watt adapter. The 65W adapter will work, but with certain caveats — see this post of mine from the day before yesterday for a fuller explanation:

I have an iPod mini, 6 GB and want to use it with a Sony CD Boombox but the adapter is different. Can it still work? Don't want to try and break iPod.

Do you mean that the iPod mini won't fit on the "dock" because of shape (of the iPod), or is the docking connection a different type from the "30-pin" dock connector on the iPod mini?
